One of my favorite places in metro Detroit, for atmosphere and delicious food. I dream about my next meal at Ronin weekly... standouts are Ahi Tuna Pizza, Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna, Spicy Salmon Crunch Roll. MUST try, even if it's a drive, it's so worth it.

Popped into one of our favorite places on Wednesday night and was surprised to see they were doing happy hour! Apps were cheap and they're all worth it! Happy hour is 5-7 on weekdays. We absolutely love the crab hand roll-- It's a go to for us. Tried the tuna tacos which were amazing and had the perfect amount of kick. I mean the picture of the sushi speaks for itself. Food came out quick and we didn't even wait for a table.

I love the vibe! Service was great, drinks were delicious, and food came out quickly. I gotta say I wasn't mind blown by any of our apps, they were just good fried dishes with nice sauces. I need to go back to try the sushi obviously, but thought this was a nice spot once we got a table

Ronin is not my go-to sushi restaurant UNLESS it's during happy hour! They have incredible happy hour deals with quite a few roll and drink options. Food is pretty pricey when it's not HH, but you can taste the quality and freshness. The seating inside is pretty tight but the ambiance is comfortable. Our server was kind and came around often to fill drinks or ask if we needed anything.

I was in Royal Oak for a show at Baldwin Theatre and needed to kill an hour before the doors opened. I was hungry, but not starving, and didn't feel like walking to far from the theatre or my parking spot, and wanted sushi, so off I went. This place is literally a hop, skip and a jump from where I was going! At first I swear I thought the place was vacant?! Don't ask, but there wasn't much signage and I couldn't tell. BUT, when I saw people walking in and out, I knew it was okay. Getting inside and let me tell you, this place was PACKED. It was a large restaurant and was very busy for a Thursday night. I did have to wait about 10 minutes for a seat for a few reasons. The bar area's first come first serve but it was wall to wall people so I decided to wait instead of sitting in other patrons laps to get a happy hour special. They seated me at the sushi bar in the corner which was perfect since I wasn't squished with other people. I was just squished in a corner which I was totally cool with. They have a decent menu with extensive offerings but can get pricey depending on what you order. Fortunately, they have a happy hour menu which was right up my alley at that given moment. They had two dishes that drew me in and I almost ordered both. One was a unique twist on crab rangoons which I love and the other was a 6 piece salmon sushi roll that I ended up ordering. My server was really awesome especially considering just how busy this place was. She took my order and was able to answer all my questions about the dishes I was interested in. Food here was very good and I loved the decor of the place. My whole bill was $9.54?!?!?! If I'd gone with the crab rangoon dish it would've been an another $8 or whatever. not bad to walk out full for under $20 in Royal Oak during happy hour...that's a win for me! There's even a parking garage kitty corner to the restaurant that's across from the Baldwin theatre that has the first two hours free and only 75 cents an hour after that. Man, I got lucky! I will say the staff was fantastic from the two hostesses to the servers. They really handled being busy like champions and treated me well. I love it here and will return in the future.

Pretty average sushi experience overall. Probably fresh enough fish, but the rolls were about 70% rice and 30% ambition. Definitely more of a "California roll and cream cheese" vibe than a Tokyo experience; let's just say it's sushi for people named Chad and Becky (no shame, we all have our days). They tried to hit us with a $20 plating fee for bringing our own cake but redeemed themselves by keeping it chilled instead. Service was scattered, sounds were loud, and my friend said, "The Pepsi was excellent."

Service was friendly and fast. We were seated immediately on a Sunday evening. The tables are all really close to each other which is kind of annoying but not a huge deal. The drinks had a lot of alcohol in them which I really appreciated. The jalapeno margarita was delicious. The yellowtail sashimi was good, and the tuna tartar was just ok. The wonton crisps served with it were not great. Our sushi tasted fresh and it was a good portion size. A bit pricy but overall I enjoyed the experience

This spot was amazing!! I went for my birthday. The ambiance is laid back, great place to take a date or a group of friends. The food was amazing. The ribs were fresh and tangy and the sake was strong! The service was great they were fast and checked on us during the duration of our meal.

Our new favorite sushi spot!! In addition to a lengthy regular menu, they have a special menu that changes each month, and we really enjoyed the scallop roll from that menu. We also were there during happy hour, and enjoyed the nigiri trio off that menu. The spicy salmon crunch roll was delightful! Finally we ended the meal with the ice cream tasting - you can pick three flavors, and our favorite was the housemade peanut butter! We will definitely be returning.

Second time here - always such a fantastic experience. Great sushi, intimate, lively vibe, good service, and adjacent to downtown Royal Oak. This visit we came for their happy hour, which happens daily even on the weekends (with varying hours). As we came early evening, we were seated quickly- but the restaurant filled quickly and there was soon a lengthy wait for tables by the time we finished. We didn't order any cocktails this time, but we did get their green matcha tea which was solid. We ordered: - tuna tartare tacos - hamachi crudo - hot crab rolls - Mountain Dew roll - spicy salmon crunch roll - crispy rice crab rangoon Our favorites were the hot crab roll and the crispy rice crab rangoon - so so good. Sushi rolls were solid, hamachi crudo was a bit small, and the tuna tartare tacos were a bit heavy on spicy mayo and pickled jalapeños. That said, we have no regrets. We even got doubles of things we liked. On my last visit, I came for my birthday and the desserts are on point, especially the warm butter cake. Highly recommend Ronin in Royal Oak for a nice, fun sushi evening out.

The food here was great and it came out really quickly! Our waitress was also super accommodating and helpful. The host staff was a little off putting, but once we were seated it didn't really matter any more. We liked the vibe, the variety on the menu, and the speed of the restaurant!

Will always be my favorite place to go out for sushi. The yellowtail sashimi is my favorite. The wait time is the only negative really. Fun place to eat with a group of friends if you get a lounge seat

Went to Ronin with my on 3/22/25 with my wife for dinner. We got there just before 5:00pm and were seated right away. The Service was great, the restaurant had a nice atmosphere, and the sushi tasted delicious and fresh.

It says "masks required", any update on if that is true?

    Nope, no masks required.

    Do they take reservations?

No. Ronin does not accept reservations (except for reserving their upstairs lounge for private events) and your entire party must be present to be seated.

Does anyone have information on private parties?

I know you can rent the upstairs!!

Walking in, there was very limited seating and about an hour wait, which clearly showed how popular this spot is. Thankfully, the hostess told us about their basement bar area where you can grab drinks and snacks while waiting. The downstairs area had such a cool speakeasy vibe dark ambiance, vinyl music playing, and honestly the perfect date night atmosphere. The drinks were REALLY good, and you can also order appetizers down there. Once we made it upstairs, we grabbed bar seating and talked to a few people around us who all said this was their favorite spot. Our bartender was amazing -- super attentive, explained the menu well, and gave great recommendations. We ordered the wings (perfectly seasoned and so good) and the chicken sandwich with buffalo added for a little spice... absolutely delicious. I also tried the pistachio martini, and wow definitely one of my favorite drinks I've had in a while. Overall, such a great experience from the atmosphere to the food and service. Parking was no problem as I was lucky to find metered parking just steps away from the front door. I walked in immediately taken with the charming decor and darkly lit romantic vibes, which is my favorite esthetic for any restaurant. The seating at the bar was yummy, thick comfy seats. The bartender greeted me warmly. He was cool and I hate that I didn't ask his name. He was attentive and masterful with the spirits. He asked if it was my first time, which it was, and since so, made me a tasty "welcome" drink with gin that was fantastic. I also ordered "the panty snatcher" a concoction of vodka, grapefruit, St Germain, rose water and orange. It was amazing. I will definitely be back for drinks. The drink menu is quite tempting. I had the Corn, Corn, Corn dish, which is polenta and corn kernels topped with popcorn. Yes, super unique and interesting. I had to try it. The popcorn was so light and flavorful straight out of the kitchen, but became chewy as it sat atop the piping hot polenta. I really enjoyed it however. Next time I'll eat all the popcorn first. I also had lobster dumplings, which was good but the dish wasn't cooked through. The filling wasn't hot and the pasta was very under on some bites. I was the first customer for the evening, so I can forgive that faux pas. I really enjoyed myself and I will return time and time again to try everything. The menu offers many things I love. Great concept. Cool vibes.

As we followed our greeter to our table I kept screaming in my mind "no no no no no not that table no!" and she sat us at a table in full blasting sun. Nevermind the fact that there was a whole shaded section in the back part of the patio area. The rest of my group said it was fine and a beam of sun slowly bore a hole through my chest. Drink orders were up. I ordered a fabulous cross between a Moscow Mule and a Mojito. A+++ for the drinks. Mine was loaded with fresh mint from their garden. Same grade for our waitress who explained the drinks in detail and ended with "ugh- are you sure you want to sit at this table straight in the sun?" The other two said it was fine. I was ready to move, but was out voted. She continued to check in regularly and brought extra water. Most items on the menu were hot. I considered the fish, but we all landed on appetizers and we would just bounce from place to place for bites and drinks. We ordered the charcuterie board and the lavender lemon whip with bread and cucumbers for the 3 of us. The charcuterie board was the large version and had minimal offerings. It wasn't full and pretty. It was little piles of each thing on a board. This one definitely wasn't making it into Better Homes and Gardens magazine. There was a little pile of mixed nuts, a little pile of lose green grapes, a little pile of lose red grapes - not all grapes pristine or large and none were on the vine. There were 3 little piles of cubed cheese and 2 types of sliced sausage and sliced pepperoni. There were 8 crackers that were wheat thin size. This matters because we had some onion jam on the board and a nice serving of mustard. There really wasn't anything to put them on except for the 8 little crackers. That part was weird. These weren't elevated offerings. I could have picked up any of these at Walmart. They were not elevated quality either. We also got a lavender lemon infused whip which was their answer to tzatziki sauce. It was excellent but again, we were given so much of the sauce without a bunch to put it on. The cucumbers were sliced lengthways and there was a lovely bread that tasted like sourdough. There was 6 pieces of bread, and these were not particularly large pieces. A lot more would have been needed to use all of the sauce they gave. The proportions were off. All together the bill was over $100 for the 3 drinks and appetizers. If I ever did go back I won't order food based on what I experienced. There are too many other great options within walking distance.

Just one burger option and limited toppings. Server was very nice but didn't write down the order, and when it came my burger was missing the cheese and onion. I wasn't sure if they would take it back or what so I didn't eat anymore and it took her a decent amount of time to come and check on us after we got our food. I let her know what was missing and she said it was her fault and asked if I wanted it fixed. I said yeah and she went and got a cold piece of cheese and slice of onion and put it on a plate and gave to me to put on my own burger. I'd expected a little bit better service and I'm certainly not someone who demands top tier service from every spot. Fries were crispy but needed some parm or an aioli sauce to dip in. Also minor note but I had some fries left on my plate and when she came to collect plates I had food in my mouth so I couldn't say anything but she took the plate and my fries! They should always ask if there's any food left on the plate. Burger was decent overall, but definitely nothing special. Environment was cool and I'm sure they have got some other delicious items on the menu but for the price paid and service received, I'd go somewhere else next time.
