I have lived here for many years and neglected that poor nook in the Vons plaza. A small but mighty shopping center and quite possibly a perfect one stop shop now that I've discovered Almond Haus for my caffeine fix. I digress as I usually do. :) I saw Basics on Yelp and bookmarked it but while shopping with my son in the plaza we were on our way to get smoothies at Almond Haus and walked by Basics; he spotted a camo hat & wanted to go in. There's a whole wall of patches to your immediate right as well as a stand with blank patches that you can customize. There's a TON of work shirts, blank tees, flannels, dickies, Carhartt work boots, clothing, Girl Scout vests & pamphlets. We left with a $9.99 camo trucker and a iron on patch $1.99. The blank patches vary but the largest one I saw was $1.99. I believe the gentleman quoted me $10 on the embroidery & $2 for sewing it on. $14 for a embroidered left chest personalization is a great deal! Now to find the medium I want it sewn on. Will update the review if the quality does not meet the rave reviews from my neighbors but I have high hopes!! read more

Basics is a great neighborhood shop for all the things you need but may not know you need. We frequented this shop initially for their sewing services, they put all of my kid's Girl Scout and Cub Scout patches on as they grew up. They stock Girl Scout books, patches and vests, work shirts, dickies, various tees, flannels, stickers, work boots and more clothing. The staff is always very helpful and friendly. We appreciate this shop for the things we have needed but it's also a great place to wander around. read more

I called ahead to Franco and he was kind and took the time to help me organise all the badges, pins and uniform needed. I called many time changing and adding to my order, each time Franco was more than helpful. Everything I needed he had available to pick up that day. Awesome customer services. OMG this place SUCKS now. Used to be the spot back in the 90s. They'd stock every color and size of Ben's and Dickies imaginable. If they didnt have it they'd bust out a catalog and special order it for you. Now it looks like Junior and Doofus run the show. 2 colors and 3 sizes available and they dont do orders. Your average tweaker at the flea market has more variety than this place these days. What happened to Basics?! read more

I get my kiddo's scouting patches sewing done here and they do a great job. Their prices are reasonable and the staff is super friendly. They even helped removed patches that were "glued" on. The turnaround time is about 3-5 days. You can usually get it within a week, but I'm sure they can get things done sooner if asked. They have a HUUUUUGGGGE selection of work clothes and they have an even bigger selection of patches for scouts and other youth organizations. This store is a drive, but totally worth it. Came back for another vest for the newest member of our Girl Scout, my youngest daughter. It was about the same price as Daisy vest as last year, but this time I went on a Monday mid-morning (9/23/19) and there was only one other customer. The vest size she needed was available, plus they had Greater Los Angeles and the American flag patches pre-sewn. All we needed was the troop numbers sewn on and her name embroidered (which was the main thing I wanted). I can do basic machine and hand sewing, but I've never tried embroidery. Didn't want to chance screwing it up either! Nice, fast and efficient service. Patches for days... Paid. Left the vest. Went to a nearby coffee shop. Came back and vest was complete. I got injured after the heavy medal stand holding the price tag fell and dropped on my left leg and landed on my left foot. The clerk was not trained so she continued folding clothes and starred at me just as the other customers did. I asked her why she did not come and asked what she can do for me while hearing me screening due to my pain. She said she was taking care of a previous customer. I was facing her while my injury happened so I noticed that no customer needed her attention then. Out of anger, I didn't go to the back area to ask for a first aide bandage or antibacterial pad. When I shopped at DKNY and showed my injured peeled bleeding skin, their clerks offered first aide to me. 2 hours later the bleeding part sworn and was painful. I applied Mentholatum when I returned to my car. As I tolerated my pain and wondered why the store owner had two stores but one of those two was closed a few months ago, I decided to share this painful experience with customers who have babies or little kids. That object may damage the head if landed on the head of a baby. When you're in that store, watch the medal stand by the edge of each stand, those stands are not secured. They may move and fall easily. read more

All I can say is Wow! What excellent customer service! A couple of friends had recommended this place to get our brownie badges sewn onto our vest. I had been doing it by hand (thinking i was saving money) We ended up getting backed up with patches with about 10 that needed to be sewn on. So we decided to tested it this place out. All I can say is I will never sew on another patch! I spent so much time hand sewing my patches, having sore fingers and this place only charges a dollar per patch! Ready in about 10 minutes! The man at the counter was so friendly he gave my daughter a "Big Sister" patch for free since she was being a good helper, taking care of her baby sister. He also let my son pick out a year of the dragon patch so he wouldn't feel left out. I will highly recommend this place! read more

Recently moved out of the area and joined a new Cub Scout Pack. My son has a blanket with his name and Pack Number, along with all the patches he earned and needed to add the new Pack number. While they are a bit pricey for embroidery (6and out of our way), cam here specially to make sure the new Pack number matches. When we dropped off the blanket, were very clear what we wanted (same size, font, ribbon color) and told no problem. Picked up the blanket the next day and not happy. Font was similar, but not as thick, and ribbon color was more yellow than gold. When I expressed my displeasure, they said they bought a new machine late last year, hence the difference. Asked about a discount or partial credit, but told no as embroidery is not refundable. read more

After multiple communications & submission of photos documenting error, they only refunded me the cost of the item - but not the $20 I paid in delivery & return shipping. I've been a fan of Basics for over 5 years. I've had all of my son's Cub and Boy Scout patches sewn on here and now I'm starting with my daughter's Girl Scout patches. The best part is they know where all the badges and patches should be placed. I have never had one fall off, they are sewn on tight! The store is packed with product which can be a bit overwhelming but I know what I want when I get there so I'm not distracted by it all. Most of the time I'm in and out but due to the amount of patches and workload sometimes I've had to come back to pick up my items. It's always the same day and if you leave your cell number they are good about calling you when the items are ready and they are usually earlier than the time they've quoted. Great job!! Do not trust the owner of this store to know how to read numbers. I went in there and asked for four pairs of size 38 Dickie shorts for my husband. He gave me one size 38 and three size 36. My bad for not checking when I got home and before I removed all the tags and put in the washer. I also bought size XL of both the black and white wife beaters. My husband has worn that size for the last 20 years. These said XL but shrunk so bad he couldn't wear them. Advice is to stick with the name brans ones. When I brought all of the items back to the store, the owner said he could not help me because I washed them. Even though he was the one to pull them from the shelf for me. So....for $128.16, I ended up getting one really nice, real expensive pair of Dickie shorts. My advice is to go somewhere else. Being a business owner myself, this is just bad business practice. read more

They managed to ruin a Boy Scout shirt after only few hours of having it in the shop to sew a couple of patches. They either left stains from their machine or food stains when they were having lunch. They declined to admin it and were very rude and unpleasant to deal with. Got a run-around to get to see the owner and than when they finally called him on the phone (spoke their language) he was absolutely negative and rude. Told us to sue him so guess that's what we are going to do. I will post this anywhere that I can possibly can and definitely get ahold of BBB. 1 star is way to generous for their attitude alone. read more
