Loved having dinner here. We came earlier than our reservation was scheduled for (about 20 minutes earlier), was no problem to be seated. The staff was really kind to us about having a dog on their deck, and even went a few extra minutes to chop the bacon we ordered into bits for our furry pal, as well as giving complimentary ice cream. As for the food, I am still craving their duck wings. I'm mostly a pescatarian, but when I see something that is too good to pass up, I'll order and have some - and that was their duck wings. The meat was so juicy, the skin was so crispy - it was just so enjoyable to eat. We also ordered their mozz wedges, which were a unique cut to the cheese than the typical sticks - also delish. My boyfriend ordered a chicken burger and he's very particular about whether something is underseasoned - but Basil and Wick's hit it on the head with the seasoning and juiciness. The fries are frozen (or rather fried then refried) so they were a bit gummy, but honestly - at the rate that everything else was delicious and how we were treated, I wouldn't take away a star for it. I had the lobster mac and cheese and it did the trick for my cheesy cravings. Lobster pieces were sizable. I would like to give this a good review, but can't. On Thursday pasta nights, both times we went, we were waiting for a table. We observed the pasta chef cleaning the pans in between dishes with a rag, which he then threw on the floor. He picked it up and used it over and over, repeating the "floor, pan, floor" routine over and over. We told the owner, and didn't get much response. Needless to say, we don't eat the make your own pasta there! We went again on a Thursday a few months later, and I watched the chef again. Yup. He did the same thing again. Clean the pan, on the floor, pick it up, clean the pan. The owner asked if we were going to enjoy the Make your own pasta, and we again told her about the chef. We instead had some decent burgers that night. So there are nice people, decent food, but dirty pasta. Avoid the pasta. read more

The restaurant is in the middle of nowhere in the mountains so as one would expect the food would be, sadly. The restaurant itself catches your eye from the road it is rustic, new & has adirondack charm. I hesitated stopping for a late lunch because I knew It would be like walking into trap.. Two adults and one teenager one toddler the bill was $80 with tip. If the food was good it wouldn't be a problem. The beers were the best part, cold mugs, good crafty selection. The Caesar salad was terrible, terrible dressing terrible croutons. Babies macaroni and cheese was worse than the worst box macaroni and cheese actually inedible, cold. Duck chicken wings way overcooked hardly no meat but the sauce was good. Chicken wings were OK, not bad but ...the blue cheese on the side....who puts Dill in blue cheese????? Gross. Burger itself was good but the toppings and everything else we're not good. The staff wasn't warm and friendly they were distant & seemed they didn't want to be bothered. We live in New York City, and came to Upstate as a getaway. We were told that Basil and Wick's was pretty good, so we gave it a try. We ordered the Crispy Duck Wings and Ahi Tuna Roll as appetizers. The wings were so crispy and perfectly cooked. The Ahi Tuna was oh-so-delicious and went well with the soba noodle. We then ordered the Chili, House Salad, and Turkey Burger. Absolutely no complaints. The food was presented perfectly, the atmosphere was great, and the customer service was excellent. We went on a Saturday night, and did not have to wait at all for seating. As far as getting the food, the time we waited was average for any restaurant. Overall, it was a phenomenal experience. We'll definitely be back before we leave because there are some more dishes that piqued our curiosity. read more

For the winter skiers, the summer rafters or just a general guest of the Adirondack's - Basil & Wick's should definitely be marked on your trail map. The food? It's traditional American fare with a slight twist. If you will, an upgrade. I have been here on many occasions, and have never been let down by the food, the ambiance or the service. I would award top marks to all three. Let's start with the food. Personally, I'm not one for the standard American greasy slap up, which is why I love Basils. From their juicy duck wings to their perfectly seasoned Zuppa de Clams, I visit often and there has never been a person in my party that has been dissatisfied with the quality of their meal. I am gluten free, and Basils has a wonderful selection of alternative options so there is little on the menu that cannot be made to accommodate my needs. This includes (my go-to) gluten free chicken tenders, margarita pizza, countless pasta dishes and sandwiches/burgers. In addition, they use rice-bran oil in all of their frying and dressings which (for those who are unfamiliar) is a significantly healthier and less greasy option than vegetable oil. Their daily menu of specials is definitely a highlight - and during the warmer seasons, Chef Chuck's pasta bar is not to be missed. It's an Iron Chef-like experience. I would also recommend signing up to their Facebook page. There are always fun events, from country dancing to bartender competitions, that need to be booked early to avoid disappointment. The ambience is light hearted and fun, they have a wonderful selection of wine, beer and cocktails, and the servers are all incredibly friendly and helpful. A final thought? If you have room for desert...order Chef Chuck's Smore's pie. An indulgence for sure, but the presentation (complete with flaming marshmallow) is a complete treat. Come snow or come sun, Basil's is an Adirondack staple, and most certainly not to be missed. read more

What a horrible experience! Party of 7 came in 5 pm after a day of skiing, starving! We ordered appetizers and entrees, waited 1 hr 10 min for 7 entrees. Food came out cold! Waiter acted surprised and didnt offer to warm it up. Owner came over to table and said she was sorry and will talk to kitchen! What the hell? We came hungry and left hungry! Good food, reasonable price and great staff. A little slow on the service but the place was very busy. We each had the soups of the day and they were very tasty (butternut squash and cream of asparagus). All three of our entrees were very good (turkey special, chicken parm and mushroom ravioli) and had generous portions. They easily accommodated my request to leave peppers off my entree. My wife and I stopped here after skiing and were informed that only bar food was available before 5:00. We looked at the menu and found a shrimp dish and a burger that worked for us. Unfortunately the burger, ordered medium rare, was more like a hockey puck that had been cooked yesterday and the Panko shrimp was an undercooked food service product. I'll spare you a description of the resulting digestive distress. Years back this was a great place called Casey's North that had good pub food. After a fabulous day of kayaking in Newcomb the food was a 3-4 stars, service was 2-3. The ingredients were fresher than many restaurants, a nice add. Basil and Wick's was one of the best restaurants that I have been to in a long time. There weren't a lot of options in the town, so we decided to go there and were pleasantly surprised. It was incredibly clean and very well kept. The service was excellent (the owner introduced herself to each party) and the food was amazing. Not greasy, not too salty, just amazing. The hamburger I had was fabulous and perfectly cooked. The bun was homemade and perfectly crunchy. Overall, Basil and Wick's was a dream. read more

Had an enjoyable meal. A variety of choices on the menu, with intriguing choices on the appetizer menu. The lobster mac & cheese was terrific as well as the Ahi tuna log. The Thai pickled shrimp cocktail was a wonderful compilation of flavors (ginger, watermelon, etc). Again a variety of main courses, which our choices came with ample portions. Service was very friendly, a little chilly in the restaurant; however, was offered a blanket which was completely unexpected but just strengthens the friendliness of the staff. On our last night in town, there was a waiting list for a table but we managed to to grab a couple of seats at the bar instead. (Typically I am very content to eat at the bar and often prefer it over a table). The menu was creative and pretty good. Had we sat at a table away from the bar, I probably would've given 4 stars. The three women running around behind the bar, although very nice, were either not trained to tend bar or were just scatterbrained. We watched them scurry around trying to find ingredients to throw into drinks that were supposedly on their drink menu, or pour out some liquor into a side glass when they over-poured...it was just not an organized operation.
