Stopped on our way to our vacay in Adirondacks. There was no food for quite some time so if you're heading to the area, scope out your lunch/dinner spot before you go as there's no internet for a lot of the way. No gas either, so gas up when you can. Went into the bar area (separate doors for bar and restaurant) and they had no taps but three different IPA's in cans. They had the usual Bud/Bud light as well. We were told the turkey is cooked and sliced here, so we got the turkey club. Also ordered the Papa Bear burger (mama is 4 oz and $1 less). Lemme tell ya, that was one of the best burgers I've had. Just naturally delicious, nothing special on it, just a really good burger. We got the twice over when we walked in, but it's a local bar so maybe we were a friend. The bar maid was very friendly and speaking of that, I walked out without my food and a patron ran out with my takeout box. The bathrooms were clean and smelled good. It's on the way to the bottom of Schroon lake and Whiteface in Jay NY.

Just a sweet little cafe experience that welcomes you back.

The service, food and cost are all great! The ambiance is charming!! We would definitely enjoy time here again. (We're not in this area often, but I've heard about this sweet place since at least 1988)

Came here last Sunday around 630 in the AM. Waitress and cook, obviously a tired slow morning everyone has. Got a cute free post card. I had pancakes, sausage and homefries. Homefries were slightly underdone but that was alright. Very filling. Decent coffee. Cute atmosphere. Bathroom SPOTLESS.

The sign in the front was enough to make me buy a shirt. Smelled like indoor campfire and added to the trucker vibe

Ambiance is quaint and quiet, no luxury.

Fast American Food for people on the go, passer bye travelers. Service was timely and Pauline was extra nice! Food is good. We had sandwiches BLT, Fish, Hamburger and also some Chicken fingers. All were cooked fresh but they are not home cooked. Expect quick food, Hot food. I would recommend a stop if you like American fast food. I also know they had soups and salads for more healthy eating. Prices are very reasonable.

So, pro tip: If you're driving from Michigan to Vermont and your map takes you through this part of Upstate New York, be sure to uhh, take advantage of facilities when you see them, before you start your journey through the mountains. I'm not sure where anyone living up here gets gas or groceries, because those establishments don't exist for miles and miles... and miles. If you need to use a restroom and you don't see a gas station for hours, things can get a little dicey on the road. Just saying. Every small town we passed through looked like it had some kind of store that might have a restroom but they always ended up just being someone's house. I was getting desperate enough that I considered knocking on some doors. Oh yeah, there is no cell phone service up here either, so you can't really search on Yelp or a map to see what's around. Anyway, just about when I thought my boyfriend and I might die from being too hydrated (if you know what I mean), we finally found a pocket of cell service and I found the Black Bear Restaurant in Pottersville! The parking lot had cars in it, so I figured it was open (unlike the one other restaurant we drove by). We hopped out of the car with jubilation and made our way inside. The place is half small town dive bar, half small town diner. I was totally there for it. And for the bathroom. We sat at the counter of the diner side and we ordered some food before casually walking to the bathrooms as if we hadn't needed one for the past three hours or so. The food came out pretty quickly and was hot and fresh. The clam chowder was pretty good, with actual clams and big chunks of potato. The chicken tenders were over-fried and tough but the BBQ sauce helped. When we finished, our server asked if we wanted any pie - of course we wanted pie! Peach pecan pie, to be exact, that was just baked that morning. The pie was great with lots of fresh fruit and sugary pecans. The crust didn't seem homemade to me but the whipped cream made it better. The food was decent, but nothing special. We used the bathroom again before we left.

Food is decent and the place had a recent makeover. Still a local place, for the most part. Service is fine and the ambiance is local.

Good food, good people, low prices. Can't get much better than that! This is my favorite place to go for breakfast when I'm in the area.

Easy laid back country roadside eatery. Simple food, burgers, not prepared well and service is pleasant. Very tidy and clean.

After waiting apx 40 minutes for my single meal, my food was cold despite the bottom of my plate being hot. I ordered the Country Benedict which is, essentially, sausage gravey and biscuits with sausage patties and pouched eggs. The eggs were poached to an over hard consistency, there was maybe, at most, two tablespoons of bland and flavorless sausage gravy, cold sausage patties that had no flavor and were a lesser quality than McDonald's sausage patties, and the biscuits were overcooked and flavorless. Since my food was taking incredibly long, I orders a piece of coconut custard pie. The custard was perfection, the crust was absolutely flavorless, and I wonder if it was made of just flour, Crisco, and water. There didn't seem to be any salt...think of a saltiness cracker. My waitress was incredibly kind and comped me the pie for the cold food and, when my new "hot" plate of food came out, it was warm, not hot, however the eggs were properly poached. For the life of me, I have no idea why this place is always packed other than the WOL people have few options for dining in Schroon. It's such a shame because Pitkin's has been around for a long time. My suggestion, if you want a good home cooked breakfast, skip Pitkin's and take the scenic drive to Mama's Cafe in Fort Edward. I promise you, it's worth the drive alone.

We finally decided to try out S&S and I found it good, but not worth the 5 stars everyone gives it pancakes = well cooked, round, pretty standard. don't get 4 pancakes unless you want be in a pancake induced coma. also, they put a literal small ice cream scoop size of butter on the pancakes. Only IHOP does that and it's way too much butter. If you are eating all of that butter, you might need an extra dose of lipitor. Toast = kind of boring S&S pancakes = kind of tasted like pancakes with cinnamon sprinkled on top. Home fries = those were good I was there with two 16-year olds who both thought the food was "mid". I did see a small girl sitting with plate in front of her that had a waffle with ice cream and whipped cream piled so high, that it was almost as tall as her. Her eyes were huge and she was trying to figure out where to start. That waffle looked pretty good and as I passed the table, her dad was leaning in to "help out and keep the plate clean". They sell a lot of baseball hats and t-shirts.
