A pho find worth stopping for! Stumbled upon this little pho spot thanks to my fellow Yelpers, and I'm so glad we gave it a try! Hubs is always in the mood for pho--even when it's 100° outside. Today was no exception! The restaurant is clean, quaint, and has a cozy neighborhood feel. I also have to give them props for the music selection--it definitely added to the experience. We started with the shrimp spring rolls, and these were SO good! Fresh, packed nicely, and surprisingly filling. I decided to step outside my usual order and went with the chicken pho, and I'm so glad I did. The broth was the star for me, clean, flavorful, and comforting without being overly heavy. Best of all, I didn't get that strong star anise aftertaste that I sometimes notice at other pho restaurants. It was just really well balanced and delicious. Hubs went with the brisket pho and really enjoyed his as well, so it looks like we both picked winners! Such a great little find! This is the local pho spot to hit up. Firstly, I have to commend the level of service we received -- phenomenal. Brother made us feel at home and was ultra attentive. From ensuring our waters were always filled to even constructing a ready-made toddler chopsticks for our 4-year old. The atmosphere itself is nice, clean, and casual with (surprisingly) indie music playing in the background. Now for the food -- Salt & pepper wings: yes. Get this. Crunchy, juicy, piping hot, delicious. Combination pho: great! Broth by itself is tasty. Good ratio of meat to noodles to soup. Pork vermicelli: great! I'm going to preface this one. Normally I rate primarily on food and price with ambiance and service being a secondary concern. That said, my family had such a great experience with our waiter Sean that I can't really ignore it for this one. He really went above and beyond, joking with the kids, being very personable and attentive, and just overall being a great host. On to the review. The store itself is clean and pleasant, the service staff was fantastic the day we were there. My family and I walked in after spending the morning out in the sun and we were tired and dehydrated. We decided to stop by because my youngest wanted pho. We ordered a ribeye pho, a grilled bbq squid, and a bun bo hue. Pho - I feel like pho is a dish that you can really express yourself with. This pho leans heavily into what we're guessing is cinnamon and sugar than other pho and is a bit sweeter and warmer than most. This particular pho also wasn't quite as rich as some of the others I've had, but I may also be comparing it to ox-tail pho which isn't a fair. Overall hits the spot. Bun Bo Hue - My wife and I loved this one. The flavors of the bun bo hue were right up our alley. Rich, complex, very tasty with a nice kick to it. We really enjoyed this one and thought it was one of the best ones in our area. I will say that we were missing the pork blood, but I can see how other people might not. Good stuff. BBQ Squid - Honestly, not much to say about this. It was sweet and not overcooked, which is all we really needed. The sauce was good and the squid was grilled well, not rubbery at all. The boys enjoyed it quite a bit. Black Vietnamese Coffee - This might just be a fake part of the review because my wife and I had just been out in the sun for a few hours and desperately needed cold coffee, but we really liked their coffee. It was DARK and rich with very little acidity. It made us happy. Overall, the food is pretty good for the price. I can see how the pho can be polarizing, but the bun bo hue is definitely worth a try. Coming from San Diego, I've had my fair share of good bun bo hue, so I don't say this lightly... theirs really hit the spot. The broth was the star--SO flavorful, rich, and packed with depth. I was craving a solid bowl of pho today, so I stopped by Basil Bistro with my parents and the kids. We got the combination pho (their special), and it did not disappoint. The broth was really flavorful, and there was a perfect meat-to-noodle ratio. We also ordered a vermicelli dish--the egg roll that came with it was good and crispy, but the dish itself was a miss. It didn't have any meat as this dish normally does, and the fish sauce they served with it just didn't taste like the right one. The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere. We were seated right away, and our waiter was friendly, attentive, and kept everything moving smoothly. Got food to go from there last night for dinner; I got spring rolls and yam veggie rolls (gross). I've been to this place in person and it was ok then but what I got last night was gross. Spring rolls typically look fresh with carrots and dark green lettuce and avocado and fresh cucumbers, this was a nightmare. Brown lettuce and wilted cucumbers like whaaaaaa ? And the yams in the egg rolls were overly mushy and messy with a lot of sugar water poured over them and definitely NOT homemade peanut sauce the same brown lettuce plus brown old avocado ! and these appetizers aren't cheap. This used to be Lemongrass but they changed the owner. It's decent Vietnamese food but I think they're charging way too high for simple Vietnamese food. $7 for a Vietnamese coffee and almost $20 for Pho. Pork vermicelli - big enough portion . egg rolls were really good but strips of charbroiled pork were little and sliced very thin . Love how the veggies were fresh. Fish sauce was bland Bun Bo hue- good and flavorful but still lacking some broth depth compared to other places Spring rolls- decent and fresh. Wish there were the crispy stuff inside like how Lemongrass and Brodards do it. The lady was extremely nice. As much as I want to support small businesses , I can't see myself wanting to come again. We ordered their Charbroiled pork with egg roll rice plate, vermicelli bowl, and Pad Thai. The pork cutlets were pounded thin until tender, marinated with so much flavor, and grilled until aromatic. The rice plate came with two cutlets over a mound of rice, I was impressed with the portion size. My egg roll was so crispy and came hot. The Pad Thai had a unique twist, it didn't have the usual sweet-tart sauce, instead more like a garlicky sweet soy sauce. Still delicious! The service was nice and attentive. Now, let me review the food: - Beef pho is below par, the broth wasn't hot at all and it was too little for the typical pho bowl. Nicely, the waiter brought us another bowl of broth and it was very hot when we mentioned our concern to him. Why not from the beginning they served it as hot? The flavor of the broth wasn't savory IMHO. It's not that authentic and the beef is just ok, a bit dry overall. - Fried chicken rice bowl is more like Japanese Oyako don, but with fried chicken. The portion is pretty small, the portion of the chicken itself more like appetizer size. The rice also tastes old. - Yam Veggie Roll was pretty good, but way too much Thai sweet chili sauce and gyoza was just ok. Today I came here for the first time ever. My wife and I would always go next door for sushi but we were feeling for some Vietnamese food. Let me tell yall, this place does NOT disappoint!
