Rolled in for takeout at 6:20. Pad Thai, fried rice, and curry. Just left at 7:10. Horribly slow and not attentive. Warmed their chairs for them though. This place is amazing! The food and service are excellent, and they have great vegetarian options. The seasonings were flavorful and light, and the food doesn't feel heavy with oil. As a vegetarian, I can tell you that the tofu was perfectly seasoned. My mom and I really enjoyed the eggplant, green curry, pad Thai, and pad see-Ew. The eggplant was tender and flavorful, the green curry was light and didn't taste to coconut-y. The pad Thai has a little tartness that makes the flavor pop, and the pad see-Ew is the perfect balance of sweet and savory. The owner was very hospitable, and attentive. The place feels very nice right from the moment you walk in. Mirrors make the restaurant feel larger, but still quite spacious. My boyfriend I ordered between the two of us pad Thai and red curry. The pad Thai was so so and we both had tried better at other places. But the curry... I have gone back numerous times now to try the different types and the Red is still my favorite, but they are all amazing. Much more dense and less brothy than say Narai`s curry. You might need to order more rice, and I have done that once or twice. The spring rolls are so so. Good, and the peanut sauce that comes with is good, but the textures of the spring rolls don't feel all that right. read more

Consistently Very Good.... I've eaten here 3-4 times. So far, the food has been very well prepared and is reasonably priced given the serving size. I can tell they use fresh curry paste, lemon grass, other ingredients, good fish sauce and coconut milk, and understand how to combine them properly. As of this date, the lunch specials were a good deal ($5.99/6.99). My only suggestion might be that they add just a few more green veggies in the Red Curry dish... I'm giving this a one star strictly on the service!!! I enjoy the food however I called in my lunch order and when I came in they said that I would have to wait 20 mins because they put my order in when I got there and paid!!!! The Asian lady tries to explain in her accent but really it's just to confuse you based on them being behind on their customers. No one told me there would be a wait on the phone but I knew it would take me 10 mins to get there so there was ample time regardless and the older lady tried to play it off like they did tell me. We arrived for lunch at 3pm. I ordered the fresh spring rolls and the pad thai. The rolls were good except for the shrimp not being gutted. The pad thai was dry and not particularity enjoyable. The only good thing about it was the spiciness was dead on what I like. My friend is allergic to peanuts and she asked for no peanuts to be in her dish at all and out came a dish with excessive peanuts. The guy was nice enough to redo her dish. The interior was ok, except the lamp shades could use a dusting. The service was lousy. We waited forever to be served, no one asked if we wanted a to go box, and we ended up going up to pay at the desk...there were only two other parties in there at the time. Since moving to Olympia, I have become addicted to Basil Leaf. The spring rolls are delicious and gigantic and I love that the peanut sauce comes hot. My favorite entrees are the Pad Ped Thai Eggplant, noodle soup, and the Larb Gai. The black sticky rice is a great way to end the meal. I was a first-time visitor to Basil Leaf and alerted my server immediately I am vegan. She said anything on the lunch menu (I was there at 2:45 p.m.) could be made "vegan." I ordered the "Swimming Rama" with tofu -- it comes with "house peanut sauce." As I started to eat -- after taking few bites -- I decided to read Basil Leaf reviews on the web. One fantastic review warned of dairy in some of the Basil Leaf dishes. What do you know?! The "house peanut sauce" is made with cow's milk! I spoke to the manager, who had no idea that vegan meant "no animal products"; in fact, he tried to convince me that "vegan" means "no meat." Ugh. Try as I might, I could not convince him (or my server) that vegans do not consume dairy, eggs, flesh, etc. After considerable back-and-forth, he removed it from the bill. Had lunch there yesterday for the first time, and was impressed by the quality of the food and the great prices. The phad see ew was wonderful and tasted like you'd get on the streets of Bangkok, perfectly cooked fat rice noodles with just the right texture and flavor. The red curry (2 star) was satisfying, a little watery, but very flavorful. The pad thai was fresh, not sticky, and had a wonderful tamarin flavor. Checked out the fresh rolls at the next tabel, and those will be ordered next time- 2 giant rolls filled with vegies (looked just like on their website) with a great looking peanut sauce for dipping.
