We wanted Thai, and we were looking for some place we hadn't been before. Basil Thai must be one of West Yarmouth's best kept secrets. I'm reluctant to write this review for fear that they will get more business than they can handle, but I'll take my chances. They only do take-out for the time being, and on the Monday night when I showed up I was the only customer. I'm sure things are different on the weekend. We started with the spring rolls. Incredibly fresh, flavorful and crunchy. The spicy dipping sauce was nice, but unnecessary. My wife had the pad Thai and proclaimed it the best she ever had -- high praise from an expert amateur chef. I had the Massaman curry with tofu. The flavor was superb, the veggies were lightly cooked to perfection. We also got fried rice -- excellent but unnecessary. We will have a magnificent lunch of leftovers. And we will definitely be back, if only for take-out. read more

Our final dinner on Cape Cod. We got three appetizers to share, fresh shrimp spring rolls, shrimp fried in blankets, and steamed shumai. For our entrees I got the eggplant dish called night magic with ground chicken, my husband had seafood madness, my sister got chicken TOM yum soup and a stir fry and my nephew got duck on the beach. Nice coconut flavor and sweetness Crispy pad that 5* like nothing we've tasted before yet makes so much sense; crispy thin egg noodles mixed with pad Thai flavoring and appropriate seasoning. Chicken slightly overdone and definitely underseasoned and dry. Crispy squid dish 3* over salted. But nicely balanced with vegetables. Comes with rice Sticky rice with mango 3* slightly over sticky and sweet with under ripened mango, but fit the bill for dessert. Service 4* very pleasant server who forgot some orders, but seemed genuinely helpful and happy. Happy they gave us a free sample. I couldn't help being distracted however by the unsightly stain on the tablecloth left by another diner. I hesitate to write this, because it's a small family that runs the place and cooks everything by scratch, they work so hard and are very kind But the food really is only okay at best, the homemade crab rangoons are just odd with a lot of onion, the curries are thin and not that bold, and the pad thai is pale, with few ingredients and pretty tasteless. The Pad see ew is the same with some very bland sauce that just doesn't taste like it's supposed to, and the fish was really not good either. Certainly try it once just to see if it's your style, but it is some of the poorest Thai food we've had in a year or more, and we got a ton of food with guests... Just passing through the Cape and in need of a good take-out dinner, but if we were locals we would love to try everything on the menu. Apps: Crispy tofu triangles were standard but packed well with little vents thoughtfully cut in the box to allow steam to escape and the tofu to remain crispy. Chicken Thai rolls were a touch bland, but crispy. Thom ka coconut soup with veggies very good, if a touch sweeter than we are used to. Meals: I got the Bangkok Noodles Bowl, which was not the best choice for take out. They package the noodles separate from the broth and protein, but i couldn't really add them to the broth container because there wasn't space. Ask for the hot sauce and hoisin to go as well. Flavors were very nice, could have used more green onion. This is something that would work better eaten in-house. Daughter got Pattaya Noodles with tofu, and the portion was huge. She loved it. Awesome thai food! Owner/Server was very cooperative with our vegetarian request and served food almost at 9:30 even though it was so close to closing time. Had a wonderful dinner in a relaxed casual atmosphere. For a place that seems to very popular the host is always hopping-- setting tables, bussing plates, serving food and taking orders. Get the man some help please! I feel sorry for the poor guy. He is very friendly and is trying to please even the toughest of clientele. NEW OWNERSHIP This place used to be called Putachard Thai restaurant. It had only been open one week when we were there in early October, 2011. Formerly called Putachard, this location is still serving up good Thai food at reasonable prices. The location is a little difficult to spot. Even though it's on the very busy main road, Route 28, it's in an underused cluster of buildings including a post office, tattoo shop and a couple of others. It is just opposite the road you take to/from Seagull Beach though, so I'm sure they get plenty of pass-by traffic in summer. We were there on a pretty quiet Wednesday evening in March with a party of five. We were seated and served by a very sweet, friendly waitress. At the table: Crab Rangoon-I don't usually recommend straying from the specialty (Crab Rangoon isn't Thai) but these were really yummy: cheesy and not at all greasy, 5 per serving, good dipping sauce). Fresh Spring Rolls-Very guess what? FRESH! Yes! Chock-full and prepared just as they should be. Green Curry-Spicy and rich with a good amount of both veggies and chicken Red Curry-This was my pick, and I loved it. Generous portion in a nice covered dish so it stays hot (both curries served like this, with a choice of either steamed white rice or brown rice). 2 Pad Thai-on the sweet side, but good flavor. Big, fresh shrimp on top. Garlic Beef-Tender pieces of beef, nice sauce, veggies Thai iced tea was also excellent, a good balance of tea and milk, sweet but not overly so. Very solid Thai. We got the "Noodles on the Beach" and the Green curry with chicken. Lots of veggies in both dishes. We made the mistake of not asking how spicy their "regular" dishes are. While they we certainly flavorful, there was no spice at all. After we finished I did ask the "on a scale of 1 to 5 how hot was that" question and the waiter said "1". So, live and learn. It's our first trip to Cape Cod and so glad we found this restaurant. After having so much amazing seafood for a couple of days we decided to have a American seafood timeout. Basil Thai was a great fit. Their fried rice is the best I've tasted in the east coast. The service was quick and pleasant for a take out order. I can tell the other patrons were enjoying their meals as well when I came to pick up our food. We also had the chicken satay, red curry, and steamed dumplings. Microwaved appetizers came out partially frozen in the middle!... the funny part is you can hear them pressing the microwave buttons then pressing the start button and then you can hear the thing running in the background! how bizarre is that! if they are going to insist that they pre-make food that they are going to microwave then at least buy a silent one... or maybe one that can actually COOK the food instead of turn out partially frozen stuff! how sad is that!! this place obviously serves frozen pre-cooked stuff... We were visiting Cape Cod and at the last minute me and my wife decided to go have dinner here after driving by. We sure did not regret it at all! The food was absolutely amazing. We had their Pad Thai noodles and their Ground Basil Chicken. Even our two and a half year old daughter enjoyed it as well...and she is a very picky and bad eater. The next morning me and my wife contemplated where to eat for lunch so everyone can be satisfied because we had a long road trip back to NYC on Labor Day. We decided to go come back here for lunch. Their food was delicious and filling once again. If you are craving Asian cuisine, especially Thai and you are in the Cape Cod area, come here to get your fix. Crab Rangoon appetizer was equally as good and hand made. Pad thai was tasty and very flavorful. Deep, complex flavor of spices and heat go into the pad thai. Only one waiter for the entire restaurant, so service is a little slow, but still good. Some of the best Thai on the cape. Excellent presentation with square plates and nice color. Great place. Service was as good as the food! I ordered pad see ew and my friend ordered drunken chicken. Although I didn't try his, he said my noodles were better. But, he's a picky eater, so I wouldn't go by that. My food was great. The level of spiciness just as I asked and the flavors bursting at every bite. The appetizers were different than anything I've had a Thai place before, but they were delicious. The golden sacks were filled with corn and ground chicken, served with a sweet chili sauce. I just ordered the "Grilled JUMBO Shrimp Curry" and these shrimp weren't even close to "Jumbo". Not even extra large. More like large or medium. Don't be fooled. The curry itself was very bland and I ordered it 4 stars. The only reason I didn't give this 1 star was the chicken Tom Yum soup. It is very good and certainly worth 3.95. I was especially disappointed because I have had good food from here in the past. If you want good curry take out try Thai Ocha in Dennisport on Rt28. Much better. read more
