Came here after the Knicks game there was a huge line however it did seem to move at a decent pace considering all the events taking place this day. I like that they have a lot of different options. Living in NYC for a little more than 1/2 of my formative years in my 20s, while also working in the city for almost most of my working career (thanks to WFH for changing that), I came to appreciate the beauty of a slice of pizza. It's the ultimate quick bite, whether heading on public transit to the suburbs or heading to watch a game, or returning from a late night out or such. Everywhere I've lived, I've sought for the best slice of pizza I can find. Now that I'm in Jersey City, I've been on the hunt as well. Now, yes we're not looking for royalty in these slices. We're not looking for royalty in the decor. I realize these aren't a dollar or two anymore. We do live in 2026 now. All I ask for is some good slices of pizza that preferably hold up from the spot to the apartment. Fortunately, Basile's is just 2 mins away from where I live so I put it to the test. Because I was extra hungry, I ordered 3 plain slices. A plain pie is the barometer I use to determine whether a pie is good. Well it did pass the test for me. Hot, cheesy and not too crispy. I work in the area a lot and stop here for quick slices frequently. First off the service is great. Guys behind the counter are always great. The pizza here is always good. I can recommend the vodka slices, the pepperoni is always great, sausage slice very good, and the Sicilian was great. Place is always busy which is a good sign. There is a small seating area inside but would usually just take the slices home. Prices are very reasonable with a good location near the closed walkway. Great spot for a quick slice. read more

If you're staying in Newark this is the place for late night eats. After enjoying some adult beverages down the street, we stopped to grab a couple slices before heading back to the hotel. It was so good, we went back the next night too. The service is fast. You pick your slices, they heat them up, and then serve them piping hot. There's a few tables to sit at but the doors are wide open so it's chilly in the fall and winter. Don't let that stop you. read more

So this may be like one of your typical pizza spots that's in the middle of a extremely busy party area. Usually those pizza spots have bland no flavor pizza and they just try to push that on people who have been drinking and don't care about the taste. Well I was drink and I did care about the taste and great pizza is what I got. The place is small but the flavor is big . Didn't talk to the staff much but got two slices. 1 pepperoni and other buffalo chicken. They were both super good and had that crispy crust like I like . I'd definitely end my night here again. Being a JC native, I remember the days of the pizza parlor that was super small, had counters instead of tables and some of the best pizza ever!! I actual childhood memory was taking the train to Grove Street and getting pizza in the EXACT spot that Basiles is now in!!! How crazy!! Basiles pizza is pretty good, very thin crust! I would have liked more cheese and sauce but I understand it's because the crust is very thin. I just had two regular slices so next time I want to try something else and I will update my review. The space is cute right on the corner of Grove and Manila. Workers were very chipper and singing along! Drink machine in the back and a restroom if u need to go! The speciality pies looked great. The total was $20.. He told the clerk he's paying with debit. Which he acknowledged he understood. When he asked for a receipt he saw that he was charged $22. When my husband asked why he was charged tax when paying with debit you are not suppose to. The guy had an attitude and gave him the $22 back in cash and told him he could buy pizza somewhere else. I used to come to this pizzeria until today I discovered that they have been sneakily "up charging" for the pizza. They will "round up" their price (eg for 2 plain is $3.50 x 2 = $7 and topping pizza is $4.50 means it's $11.50, they will charge $12) and if you use a card, that's an additional charge so total of $12.48. When asked, the guy said it's 15% food tax then he decided to call me "crazy" for calling him out on his bad business practice. On this same trip, another man bought 3 slices and got charged extra $1.50 The price is already over priced for mediocre pizza and yet they sneakily charge you more especially for those who go there at night buzzed, is clearly taking advantage of every single one of us. Basile's has come a long way since my review for the one in Hoboken. I actually had to update that one before coming back to this. I was very excited to see that Basile's was opening another location much closer to my apartment in JC. The same bright lights, the same red facade & interior, the same great slices. I usually go for plain, but the pepperoni is a close second. I keep an eye out for fresh pies - the first few minutes out of the oven is prime. I don't mind the single slice reheat, but nothing beats freshly cut. Razza is still my favorite downtown JC pizza overall, but as far as as grabbing a slice or two for 3 (or hey, even a whole pie), Basile's is my choice. read more

New Yorkers go crazy for Pizza with a capital P. I am just your average American citizen who's not from NYC or NJ, and I am just satisfied that there's something open at 3AM to get my drunk ass something to eat. It's cheaper with cash, but I ain't got no time to count pennies. They have a lot of selection and there's something magical about reheating a huge slice bigger than your face in the oven that makes it extra crispy and delicious. I got the bbq chicken pizza and what appears to be some sort of meat lovers with sausage and pepperoni. Just ask the workers the price before buying. Sure, the cost isn't $1 a slice, but it's 2023 and CPI is a lie. If it were any cheaper, I'd be 5000 lbs because I'd be ordering a whole pizza for myself. Probably, by the time you read this review, it's like $15 for 2 slices and a soda. It's better to get the pizzas in a group since you can get all the pizza on one credit card so there's less fees. I could tell at a distance that the pie didn't seem to be very well done; I don't typically like a wet pizza ands there was a lot of steam from it. After mentioning to them, I was assured that the pizza was indeed well done, even though I was watching it steam from all the water released from the mushrooms. After getting it home, I realized in fact that it wasn't appropriately done and fact was under done. The pizza was bland, uninspired, and had almost no sauce on it whatsoever. Salty without anything to prop yup the sodium. I'm a big fan of Razza. It'sa plane down the street. Razza typically under-sauces their pizza as far as most Americans are accustomed...And it's the best pizza in the state of New Jersey so far that I've tried including places in New York like Paul G's. So it wasn't just lack of sauce. For a late night/early morning, "I have to have it!", Basille's is... there. It's available. But for regular pizza cravings, I don't see that it's worth the effort. read more
