    Buffalo Chicken

Stopped at Pizza Master's wanted some PIZZA. This place on Central Avenue is an old reliable pizzeria. We ordered the square grandma slice, a buffalo chicken slice, two plain and garlic knots. The food came out quick and hot. The garlic knots are awesome we had an order of them, coming with five total. The staff were friendly and they always make sure you are taken care of. I've been here numerous times and haven't had bad meal. They have a seating area and they bring your order to you if you dine in. This is arguably the best pizzeria in the Heights.

We brought a large group on a weeknight and they accommodated us perfectly in their fine dining room. I had the personal Margherita pizza. The crust was perfectly thin and the mozzarella was fresh. Don't sleep on the garlic bread and marinara; the sauce is robust and packed with authentic tomato flavor. My friends ordered various chicken entrées, which were all generous portions and looked delicious. We were too full for dessert, but the menu looked tempting enough to come back for. Great service and even better food!

Very solid pizza spot in The Heights! I am more of thinnnnn thin crust kind of gal, so that is my only note and it's one that might not be a big deal to most. In fact, everyone else loved it. To satisfy two different cravings, we got a half mushroom and onion & half broccoli rabe and chicken. Both were delicious! We got a few other dishes that all came out wonderful as well. We ordered for pick up and it was smooth and fast. I had never been in before, but it looked like there were plenty of tables if you plan on stopping in to stay and eat. While I love my pizza paper thin, this was a great pie and I am sure we will be back soon!

Renato's is well known the the neighborhood to be a great pizza spot for delivery and pickup. We were in the area and decided to actually dine in to try it. You order at the counter and can get slices or whole pies and sandwiches, salads, and pasta. We decided to order a large pie and their chicken francese sandwich. In my opionion, the pizza was good but not great. Canned mushrooms, a lot of sauce, floppy center. I like that they gave eggplant cutlets as an option for toppings. The chicken francese sandwich on garlic bread is a genius idea but fell flat for me. It lacked flavor and I didn't pick up on the garlic bread but I liked that it was served open face. Would pop in again or order delivery.

Best pizza in the heights. This place has been here for a long time and the pizza is great. Very nice since they remodeled too. I like most of the slices I get here but my over all favorite is the buffalo chicken slice. Easily best buffalo chicken pizza I have ever had. Pepperoni and Sicilian is good here as well. My coworkers also love the sandwiches and I need to try them as well. Service is always pleasant and pretty quick. Plenty of places to sit down and eat here. Very clean and spacious. As I said best pizza in the area.

Very greasy pizza, hopefully a one off just the day I ordered. But sadly pizza was inedible because who wants a soggy greasy pizza crust?

    Sicilian Pizza/Grandma pie

*This is a review for the grandma pie ONLY*. Oh man, pains me to write this. I've been to the one in Bayonne, and thought that flavor wise, this would be similar. I was wrong. The grandma pie slice is very different. The sauce is overly sweet, the mozzarella did not taste right, no basil on top, no crunch when you bite in. A let down for me personally. Maybe I caught them on an off day. I will say, that the normal pies looked delicious, although I didn't try, it. The service was excellent. Very fast, everything is very fresh. Ordered a salad and some garlic knots, both were good. Although it wasn't for me, this might fit your tastebuds, a lot of people love Renatos. Great place to have a chill bite with family and friends. Good vibes!

(Delivered 07/15/2023 SA @ 5:30pm): Being pizza masters was such a bold statement, Renato! In my quest to explore the various cuisine scenes throughout Jersey City, my friend and I came across Renato's Pizza Masters to fill my pizza craving. With a sizable Italian community, I already ate some wonderful pizza in the neighborhood from Gino's Pizzeria and Rizzo's Bakery, I expected nothing less. A staple in Jersey City Heights for over 60 years https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=slEDkzymmezTwnnRMQe73w&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw who pride themselves on authentic Italian cuisine, we first came across this business on our many walks with the lil' black beast. Would Renato prove to be a pizza master in our minds!? PURCHASE Bread (COMP): Soft pieces of bread thrown in for the heck of it, I guess. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=HQJ_yMQwcAGQAx24pnHQ0w&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Tomato & Red Onion Salad ($4.95): Diced tomatoes and red onions tossed with house dressing and balsamic vinegar, topped with basil, we used this tasty dish with the bread and pizza topping. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=9_YdQQItW8Rv96B3J-RskA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Caesar Salad ($7.50): Romaine lettuce with homemade croutons and shaved parmesan with house made caesar dressing, this arrived too limp, soaked (less dressing or on the side, please), and wimpy for our liking. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=7IiNCjKt_6mWREKE6JPokA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw 8pc Buffalo Wings ($10.95): There was nothing really special about these, and as usual I barely touched the bleu cheese dressing. There was a good amount of meat on each piece. Otherwise, this was a one-and-done for us. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=Qh2hgOBHT6Tpga0ODvOTww&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Eggplant Parmigiana Sandwich ($9.50): Fried seasoned eggplant topped with tomato ragu sauce and mozzarella cheese lightly toasted, this was my go-to sandwich and always had to try it. This was a hungry man's meal filled with flavor that lasted into the next day. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=fMVKBLXRpegVTFfAdEunqA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Signature Grandma Pizza ($19.00): Their all-time favorite made with fresh mozzarella cheese, plum tomato sauce, olive oil, garlic, on a thick crispy rectangle crust, I felt this was their version of a Detroit pizza. It was a simple straightforward pie that reminded me of the rectangular ones I enjoyed at lunch time in my lower education years. It was nice, but I wouldn't order it again. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=xxht4__Fksh2ZnTjO-nuYQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw 5" Cannoli ($3.00): Your standard mascarpone and chocolate chip-filled flaky pastry shell, it was sizable and blissful to eat. The shell held together well and didn't crumble, which held everything together. I'd leave a gun for this! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=cPJGdosl0en1en2IQJvK6Q&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Carrot Cake ($4.95): A thick slice with cream cheese filling, lots of carrot bits, and a creamy layer of icing, this was a hearty dessert that stuck to your ribs in a delightful way. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=NOaITLA216NXVr2nj8gj5A&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Delivery Fee ($2.60): Sometimes it happened - c'est la vie. SERVICE I easily placed my order over the phone for a designated delivery time, a friendly gentleman repeated my order back to me, and about 45 minutes later, a young man was at the doorstep with our order all securely packed up - grazie! PARKING (FREE; N/A this instance) This was a moot point in this case since our food was delivered. Otherwise, they apparently had two onsite lots in addition to plenty of spots along the main drag of Central Ave. and all surrounding side streets. - nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE Sadly, my only recollection of this place while we walked by was a well-kept facade with a large signage. I imagined plenty of natural lighting came through the large front windows and door while electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. I had no idea about TVs or any background music. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=0wjy9B2vdmte3utRB8-R6w&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops... but I was dressed-down for delivery. OVERALL Generally speaking, I was fine with Renato's Pizza Masters and would consider another visit. However, nothing really stood. The prices were comparable, good portion sizes, extensive menu, and straightforward (delivery) service. It would be nice to enjoy a sit down meal with a beer. Plus, I always preferred to support local small mom & pop businesses. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $68.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS

Dinner special- seafood with creamy Pesto
    Kathy M.

A solid 4 stars for Italian in the Heights section of jersey city. We celebrated for a party of 20+ people and were able to make reservations the night before. The food was pretty good, we ordered a number of things and had it family style. Gnocchi (pillowy and marinara sauce was just seasoned right), dinner special was scallops shrimp roasted tomatoes in a creamy pesto sauces, mussels in white wine sauce (tender and presented well), chicken Marsala with angel hair, chicken Francese, herbed crusted salmon was cooked just right, tender and not overcooked- served on a bed of salad. Penne vodka with chicken is a classic dish they've perfected. Calamari was crisp and battered thinly served with marinara. Chicken Alfredo was creamy and cheesy. Margherita pizza was great as well. Simple and classic. We had the back room which was very comfortable bright and more dressed up for gatherings. Our servers were friendly and service was prompt. For dessert we had tiramisu which was so good. The vibe is casual, neighborly and not stuffy. A lot of locals having fun. Parking is a private lot and street parking. Overall experience is a 5, and will recommend even just for take out!

I had very high expectations going in, but unfortunately, this experience was a major letdown. The food was just not good. The pasta was bland and needed extra salt and pepper. The arancini balls tasted like they had been frozen and lacked flavor. The steak and fries were tough, and the only noticeable flavor was a strong peppery taste. The restaurant itself is cute, and I do recommend making a reservation. The open/close concept is a nice touch and adds to the atmosphere. Unfortunately, the service was also disappointing. Our server seemed confused, and another staff member had to step in when we mentioned the arancini. We were told they were supposed to be that way, but arancini should have a warm, cheesy pull -- not a frozen texture. I had high hopes because of Wing Bar, but this visit did not come close to that experience.

For appetizers, we got zucchini chips, fried calamari and mussels. The calamari was fried too hard and it had a very salty, spicy Chilean type sauce over it. The zucchini chips were thinly sliced, lightly battered with Parmesan cheese sprinkled over them. They were decent but nothing to write home about. In fact, after having about six or seven of the zucchini chips I began to experience heartburn from the grease. For entrees, my husband had the chicken parm. He said it was too thick and should have been flattened more before frying. It was also very breaded. My brother-in-law ordered the chicken and waffles and he said the chicken tasted day old so after having a bite of one piece of the chicken he pushed the chicken aside and called it a day. I called the waiter over and informed him about the chicken tasting day old. He didn't try to change it out or take it off the bill or get a manager. He just apologized by saying I'm sorry. My crab Mac and Cheese was decent. It wasn't seasoned the way I would have liked but the huge, plentiful chunks of crab made up for that. I ate a third of my dish and packed the rest for home where I will doctor it up to my taste. I've never been to this particular restaurant before. The only reason we came today is because my brother-in-law was here on business and staying at a hotel in the area.

Fun and popular local neighborhood spot in Jersey City. Though parking is a bit of a pain in the…read morearea the food and warm, welcoming atmosphere make it worth the hassle. While the inside of the restaurant isn't large (note they have a larger back patio area as well) it's cozy and parties of two may share a larger, communal table which can be a nice way to make friends should you choose. As others have noted it's a BYOB place with a convenient local wine-shop just a minute or two nearby. The menu changes regularly though we got many of the classics that have stayed on the menu (only missing the Angry Chicken which we'll get next time). The pastas were delicious though I wish the rigatoni was a bit saucier and really enjoyed the ravioli which had a lighter, mid-summer flavor with some pine-nuts for extra texture. The ricotta bread and honey was tasty though a large portion for two people and we felt that the standout was the halibut. My only complaint is the 3% mandatory card-processing fee (which at least is prominently displayed). Please also note that this restaurant calculates tips based on the total, not pre-tax amount and the waiter tends to hover while you swipe your card which can feel a bit overbearing.

Paired with the honey and peppercorn were *chefs kiss*. Just a perfect shareable app. The mortadella was also good but smaller than I anticipated. I'd maybe pass on this next time. Honestly this would have paired perfectly with the toast but it was brought out after the toast was finished. We ordered two pastas: the rigatoni and the malfadine. Both were great and cooked perfectly. The quality of ingredients were a standout in both of the dishes. Pork pampanella was the most tender pork I've ever had. Basically melted in your mouth. Very fatty and heavy (a little too heavy...) but delicious. 4.5/5 overall. Some of the dishes were missing a little something to take it all the way but I'd still recommend this spot tho. Also it's BYOB!
