I called and spoke with Chef Cowdrey and he explained that each one is custom made to order. So I placed my order on a Friday and he had it ready for me as requested by 8am on Saturday morning. This was very important because I was leaving New Orleans upon picking up my order. I shared some of the galette with family members who live on the West Bank. Chef Cowdrey Galette de Rios and O.M.G.G.'s pastries are simply amazing! We were blown away by the presentation, the flavor and the delicacy of this pastry. My sister ended up calling him to place an order for two Galettes! We're hooked!

The large king cakes come in a large rectangle with dark golden brown dough and lots of very fine gold, purple, green sugar on top....looks more impressive than 95% of the other king cakes which can be slathered with too much white icing, use coarse sugar, or have dough on the yellow side instead of golden brown. We also got almond croissant which was delicious, especially after a bit of time in the toaster oven. The chocolate croissant is unique for its layer of chocolate glaze on top.

I had been hearing about Antoine's Famous Cakes and Pastries and finally decided I had to check it…read moreout before heading back to Houston...I stopped by in the evening...only to find out they had already stopped making their glazed beignets at 5pm...the young lady there was polite and suggested I come back the next morning at 6am for a fresh batch. Not wanting to leave empty-handed...I grabbed a slice of cake and some sweet potato pie...and let me tell you...both were absolutely excellent...rich, flavorful, and worth every bite...that alone convinced me it would be worth making a return trip...so much so...I actually changed my travel plans from 4am to 6am just to try those beignets. The next morning...I arrived right at 6am...along with about five other customers already waiting outside...we stood there expecting the doors to open...but after a while...one customer called inside and was told they couldn't open because they didn't have a cashier yet...one by one...everyone left. I stayed until about 6:15am...hoping things would turn around...but eventually had to leave as well. That was definitely disappointing...especially knowing they lost at least five or more customers that morning.
