The bartender was super friendly and let us try out different samples. This place has a major laid back vibe to it. After enjoying a leisurely Sunday brunch at the Bearded Baking Company next door, we stopped in here for a quick adult beverage. The pub has lots of seating and nearly an entire wall of cooler displaying the many bottled and canned beers available here. In addition to bottled selections, there are several craft beers on tap here. Hard to imagine not finding something you will like at the bar. A young woman was tending the bar and made some very good suggestions on the beer menu which we chose. This is an awesome brewery located in the heart of Bastrop's downtown district, right in the middle of Main Street. They have a nice balance of IPAs, sours, bocks, ambers, etc. A total of 28 beers on tap - most of them are from Texas, but a few are brewed out of state. They have TONS and TONS of bottles and cans, also. There are way too many to count. Here's the coolest part about this place - you can get cans or draft in a plastic cup to go, and wander around Main Street. It's legal here! *Prices - I think they have priced their pints about a dollar above where they should be. I had a Thirsty Goat pint for $5.50 during happy hour - normal price is $6.50. You can sit at the bar or hang out on the nice and comfy leather chairs and couches. I recommend sitting at the bar if you want quick refills - otherwise you have to stand in a line and hope a server notices you. They also have pinball machines and arcade style video games. I'll definitely visit again when in the area. *Pro Tips* If there is an event (car show, Christmas parade, etc.) expect to park several blocks away and walk to it. It's on Main Street and they shut the street down frequently for those events. Food - they serve hot pretzels from a nearby establishment with butter and a Guinness based mustard on the side. I didn't partake but I heard they were good. They have sake shots (even sake Jell-O shots) and mimosas. Yay, sake!!! You can "build your own" 6-pack of cans or bottles to go. read more

Okay... Some places are just so wonderful that you need more stars. Five is not enough for this place. I was camping this week at Bastrop State Park. The mornings were cool enough for hiking and camp-like activities. The afternoons were scorchers. Both of my "full days" had temperatures around 97 degrees which Weather Bug said felt more like 109! I can't argue with that. The heat and humidity had me scrounging around for indoor activities. I found the Bastrop Beer Company with an internet search for breweries/pubs near Bastrop. It was a great find. It is located on Main Street in what is one of the most beautiful little historic downtown areas I have ever seen. It is in a large building with high ceilings that was probably a store of some kind in the past. There is a long bar on one side with a lot of seats. There are several comfy chair/sofa/coffee table areas along the other. The entire place has a clean fresh but historic feel to it. I would guess that it is family friendly. They are hooked into the Untapped app, which makes it a win for me, as I am a beer nerd who compulsively records every new beer he drinks. As a result, the menu is up on a giant screen that flashes between screens to show all the beers on tap. They also have a paper print out, if you ask for it. I prefer to look at the menu on the iPhone app. That way I can tell if I have had a beer before or not. Yeah... like I said...BEER NERD. I enjoyed a great flight of new to me beers plus a couple of extra flight-sized that I was interested in on my first visit. It was such a pleasant experience, that I returned the next day with a buddy who met me for lunch in Bastrop after not seeing each other in over 20 years. On the second visit, I had what I called the "funky flight". It was made up of sours, lambics, fruit lagers, and other mis-matched beers. There was absolutely no rhyme or reason to the selection. The order would have made most beer snobs cringe. But, I got to try six more beers that I would not normally want to order a full pint of. I like the fact that I can order individual 4 ounce beers without getting a full flight. I never allow myself to drink more than two pints of beer unless someone else is driving. So, having the option to have a few stand alone 4 ounce beers is good for me. The serving staff was super friendly both days. They were all what I call "chill". I can't remember feeling so welcomed and comfortable at a "new to me" place. I think it might be dog friendly, as one of the servers had his dog with him behind the bar. I don't see that mentioned on the website, so don't take my word for it- call and ask. They have free popcorn, although I didn't eat any. There were also some nice looking soft pretzels which I also didn't try. They have 28 taps of craft beer. If you aren't happy with them, they have a huge beer case on the wall with what looks like hundreds of other canned choices. Plus, they have sake, wine, and champagne for the mis-guided folks who don't drink beer. I really can't say much more about the place. I know it would be my hangout spot, if I lived in Bastrop. I also know that I will visit it at least once a day whenever I am camping at Bastrop or Beuscher State Parks. read more

Love this place to stop in and have a few beers. It's wine and beer only, but they have an extensive selection of brews (that you can also get to go!). You have the option to create your own 6 pack (to-go), as well! They host bingo and trivia nights during the week, and always have other fun games available to play. Nice upstart brewery that is dining its way in Smithville. Food list is growing and they always have site brewed beer, local micro breweries and so light beer for the non-beer drinkers. Believe they also have some wine and wine coolers. Family friendly with indoor seating and sports on tv and an outdoor beer garden with some outdoor games. Solid beer spot with lots of selection. I would give it a 3.5 but I don't get half stars so I am just leaning towards 3. The price is a bit expensive for some of the beers and the popcorn machine wasn't running, which is surprising for how much they push it. I need some snacks people, at least have chips or peanuts to buy. They also have a small arcade section, which is a fun addition. There are at least 5 games there and even a punching machine. Lot of comfy couches too. The staff was relatively friendly. I would definitely return because of the beer selection but the other parts made me dock some points. read more

Loved it. So happy for Bastrop. A very nice place. The owners have put a great deal of thought into the layout and products. GREAT selection. I would agree with the poster about dimming lights and adding some more tables and/or sofas. "No food" for sale could be an issue but we were encouraged to bring in our own which was cool. We ordered from Paw-Paws next door and brought it in. They had free popcorn, but could at least add potatoes chips for sale. The other issue we noted was the "Facilities". One bathroom for each sex. I was there with 4 men who all noted the lacking. There is one bathroom (with a lock on the door) so only one at a time. This is a bar...specializing in Beer!! Bathroom trips should be expected to be frequent for patrons. There was plenty of waiting in line while we were there and there with only 12-20 people. We have high hopes for BBC and will be back. read more

The beer menu is extensive and great, they have live music, karaoke, a few arcade games, touch-screen jukebox, etc... it's a pretty awesome place and I Love the Black Barrel beer cocktail, it's my usual. I would love this place so much more if they had some bar food and a few more games that are a bit more interesting and more fun to play. Also a pool table would be great here. The bathrooms are nice and clean and very accommodating for the ladies, providing products for emergencies is a really generous touch. Great local place to stop downtown. They have a wall full of coolers with cans and the rest of the wall with beers and ciders on tap. If you can't find something here to drink, it might not be out there. You can purchase a can or 6 pack and drink there. They have some happy hour deals including 10% off caned drinks (so a good deal even to stop by just to take home). The staff is friendly! This place is great. It just opened a week ago and looks fantastic. There is not very many choices in Bastrop so something new is always welcome. They have tons of choices of beers including draft, can and bottle. They have unique stuff that you won't find at another bar in town.
