I loved the whole experience. It's such a cute space and has that elevated feel without feeling overly fancy or uncomfortable. We started with the grilled focaccia and Watermelon on Fire, and both were excellent. The watermelon was one of those dishes that sounds a little questionable on paper but completely works once you taste it. Sweet, savory, a little spicy and really fresh. We also had the Texas quail, which was beautifully cooked and full of flavor. I had the blackberry bourbon cocktail and loved that too. What really stood out during dinner though was how personable the service was. We never felt rushed and our server actually engaged with us, which made an already good dinner feel even better. I went back this past Saturday for brunch with my sister, her husband and my fiancé. It was definitely a livelier experience with more people around, but still a really nice atmosphere for a Saturday brunch. The service was good and everything came out as expected, although it didn't have quite the same personal touch that I experienced during my first visit. Between the four of us we got to try quite a bit. The shrimp and grits were rich, buttery and seasoned really well. The smoky pork tostada was packed with flavor and the potatoes on the side were honestly some of my favorite bites on the table. The French toast and fried chicken was as good as it looked, with crispy chicken, fruit and just enough sweetness. The only thing I wasn't completely sold on was the biscuits and gravy. The gravy was brown, which threw me off because that's not what I normally expect from sausage gravy, and the biscuits were a little too dense for my preference. The flavor wasn't bad at all, it just wouldn't be my first choice the next time I go. Other than that, Store House has been a hit for me on both visits. The food feels thoughtful without trying too hard, the plates are beautiful, and the restaurant works just as well for a dinner with your sister as it does for brunch with a group. The interior space is pretty nice, especially the Eastern room. But some of the booths are old and really need new cushions in them. I'm hoping they invest in this place when the new, nearby community opens up and they gain new patrons. If it improves, we'll come here more often. It has potential. That said, we were disappointed on this visit. The waiter literally pulled something out of my drink with his fingers before serving it to me, hoping I wouldn't notice. Who does that? If something's fallen into it, just take it back to the kitchen and get another one. Don't dip your fingers into guests' drinks. Please. The guacamole was interesting. Just unseasoned, mashed up avocado. No onion. No serrano peppers. Little to no salt or lime. Diced tomatoes were served on the side (as not to water down the guac), and it was served over shredded iceberg lettuce. I did taste fresh. And there was salt on the table if you wanted it. They are no longer using the door facing the street so if you've ever been there, be sure and drive around the back now. This gives them much more room inside for more tables. They have redone the bar area and it looks very elegant when you walk in. This was our first visit there and we were glad that the manager came to our table to explain the menu to us. It can get a little confusing. They started out by bringing french fries and some fried strips of potatoes to our table. After our drinks came, they came to take our order. You can get the feast, which includes the salad bar and all of the meats they bring around to your table. Or you can just get the salad bar for a lot cheaper, and there are more than enough items on there for a full dinner, just not the meat selection. The drink I ordered was a strawberry caipirinha and it was delicious. You start out with the salad bar which is really a little misleading because there's way more on there than your typical salad bar. When you are finished with the salad bar, you turn the little card they give you to the green side up and they start coming around to your table with the different variety of meats. Some of them I liked, some of them not as much, but that's the fun thing about it - getting to try all of the different flavors. The servers were all friendly but I did have a hard time understanding some of them when they were telling me which type of meat they were serving. The place was packed and there was quite a line when we left so I highly recommend having a reservation, especially on the weekends. It is fairly pricey but worth it for a nice night out.
