Great experience with BCC. Buddy and I went in on a quarter cow and it was delivered right to the door with each cut individually wrapped and marked for easy use. Grass-fed beef looks amazing in the packages and can't wait to dig in. With beef prices being so outrageous at the grocery it was time to buy in bulk from a local place where you know what you're getting. Would not recommend. We paid $2,300 for half a cow and all the cuts are extremely tough beef. While they sent us additional cuts to try and compensate, those were equally as hard to chew. We have tried smoking, baking, searing, grilling all sorts of different methods to try and get the beef tenderized. None have worked. If you want to use two hands to try and pull the meat out of your bites, buy from Bastrop. Last year we bought a quarter cow from a different regenerative vendor with grass fed and finished beef - and it was the best beef we have ever had so we know it is not our cooking methods. read more

I have bought multiple quarters and half cows. The Batrop cattle company beef is tough. None of the cuts are good including ground beef. The harvested animal is too young and not at all tender. I have tried every cooking method with the same result. I wish I could sell back the meat I have bought. There is little enjoyment in preparing this beef. Sorry but I have to be truthful. I know my beef and this stuff is gross! It's not a grass fed thing it's a very young animal premature to be butchered! Update: I spoke to the management and as a good gesture they sent me additional steaks. I was appreciative. The new steak were much like the others. What I found helpful to soften up the meat was meat tenderizer. I had never needed this for other meat product but it did work well. Bastrop Cattle are good people. I will improve my review to three stars from one but other buyers planning to spend $2k on beef should know what they are getting! read more

We ordered a quarter cow; delivery was timely, and communication was good with the team from Bastrop! The beef order was received in insulated boxes, still frozen which was great because we were out until midday. The beef looked good from opening and I looked forward to seeing how it tasted. I get better grass fed beef from HEB. honestly, this is tough horrible meat. I am almost 60 years old and have grown up on rare to medium rare seared steaks. LOVE them. This meat is truly inedible, tough and disgusting considering the price you pay for it! Spent well over $1,500. They do not return phone calls or emails.....there is no customer service. You must call them for excuses (if they answer) and suggestions on how to cook their meat. Funny, we've already cooked their meat on their initial suggestions, new suggestions.... let's just say it sucks! It is not real grass fed good beef. I love beef.... good thing I never started out with this beef..... I would have been a chicken girl! I want my money back! read more

I paid about $1,800 for a side of beef that is INEDIBLE! I have called them TWICE, listened to their excuses for why the beef is as tough as a mud tire, listened to his PROMISE to send cooking techniques by email and that he would send me 'some' boneless ribeyes at no charge. He's not a man of his word, even though he promised TWICE to do this, he didn't do a thing!! NOT A SINGLE THING!! No email, No steaks, no NOTHING! I offered to bring some of the ribeyes I had bought from him to have him show me how to cook them. I told him if he could make them edible, that I would never complain again!! He declined to do so. Now I'm stuck with almost 200 lbs of worthless meat!!! I would NEVER send them any business and would recommend buying from a ranch that will be honest and sell a EDIBLE product!! This is my second time ordering. First time small order. This time I ordered 1/4. I have tried a couple other places, mainly those you see advertised everywhere. My family and I love the flavor of all the beef. Honestly, the steaks are thick and a decent size for being grass feed. Generally, they are smaller portions from what I found. I did find one thing interesting about the products, mainly the hamburger. Bastrop Cattle provided info on my first package, so you were aware. You will need to add a bit of olive oil or something when cooking as they really do not add water or anything else that I found. I love this! Grass Feed from HEB obviously adds something as it is very watery. Anyway, this company provides a good product and ensures you like it. Customer service has gone out of their way for me. In saying that, I do not mean complaints. I mean you give the details of preferences when ordering and they actually do it. Secondly, they have went above and beyond to ensure a delivery date was good for me when I informed them of a family emergency. Companies do not generally do that once they get your money. Lastly, I truly believe if you have an issue they will listen and do their best to make it right. Also, rare these days. Let's face it, food is expensive and not real healthy any longer. I found this company on my own after doing research for quality food. I do not think they really advertise as I never heard of them. Probably the chewiest steaks that I have ever tasted. I have tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but every steak that we have cooked has been terrible. I have emailed them about it twice in the last 6 months and not received a response, which makes their customer service as bad as their steaks. Definitely would not recommend. read more

One word. DELICIOUS! I've cooked with most of the cuts and have nothing but high praise! I've done flank steak and frites w/ collard greens (cooked with leftover fat caps), t-bones and New York strips seared in cast irons, bulgogi beef (using ground because it's easy for a quick lunch), all manner of Shepard pies and stews...even beef liver pate! The fattier cuts really let the rich flavor of grass fed beef shine, and with the more neutral leaner cuts I've never had an issue with tenderness. I typically aim for a medium rare and don't do anything special aside from salting and peppering in the fridge the day before if I remember. The quality is always great and the order process pretty simple. I've been able to customize and try some cuts I wouldn't have otherwise based on their recommendations! And for the couple of minor issues I've had, they were quick and responsive. Looking forward to many more orders! read more

I happened upon the Bastrop Cattle Company a couple weekends ago at the Bastrop Producers Market and on a whim purchased some stew meat (which I froze) and 2 TBones for my Valentines Day meal. The T Bones turned out perfect and juicy and full of flavor with only some salt, pepper & garlic to season. Last night I decided to defrost the stew meat and make the Texas French Style Stew I found on their website. I started it early this morning and it is almost finished the meat is already so tender and my house smells like heaven on a cold snowy day! So, why should you eat locally sourced grass fed, free range beef? The BCC educated me and set the record straight: Not only is their humane ranching practices good for you (leaner meat , no hormones, with higher amounts of Omega 3's and other important nutrients) and the animals it is good for the local economy! In addition to selling their meet at the local Farmers Markets many local fine dining restaurants serve their beef including Wink and Dai Due. I think it's fun calculating how much a dollar goes when you cook for yourself. Some would say $1 can get you a pound of beans, which can feed many. Some would say $10 for local vegetables helps the environment and the community. I would say skip the vegetables and spend a mere $2.76 to stuff yourself silly. Bastrop Cattle sells plenty of cuts of beef, but the only thing that was left when I got to the market was soup bones, which was exactly what I wanted. Late bird gets the worm in this case suckers. At a mere $3.50 a lb, I got myself 1 big hunk of beef forearm bone. Upon opening it, it was exactly what I expected, lots of meat surrounding a glorious flat round of bone. Onions, garlic, water, and tons of salt in a crock pot for 6 hours? That's about all it needed. The meat was like pot roast, and the marrow from the bone melted like butter in my mouth. BCC sells some good tasting beef, but best of all, it's affordable and local. read more

Best grass fed beef in Austin, must try! It's more tender and better tasting than any of the other grass fed beef around - this is because of the special way they raise the animals. They also have the best prices. I first found out about BCC from some of the farm to table restaurants in Austin who serve their beef. Do your homework! I now have Pati (the owner) deliver steaks and hamburgers right to my door and delivery is free! Doesn't get any better. Sometimes I like to go out to the ranch and see how they raise the animals and I also get a discount so it's great. Wheatsville co-op and may others carry their meat as well. If you love beef, keep reading. Our family loves beef. We also know that it's important to not only eat very tasty beef, but to make sure it is grass fed (and grass finished), it comes from a ranch where the cattle are eating grass that hasn't been treated with pesticides and the animals are treated not just humanely, but are treated with kindness and respect and lead great cattle lives. We already knew this beef TASTED great. We'd had it at Thai Fresh and could immediately taste the difference. We started buying it through our delivery with Farmhouse Delivery. Then, along with some neighbors, we went in on a WHOLE COW. When we got the delivery of those hundreds of pounds of beef and all got together to divvy it up, I was in beef heaven. I loaded up our big garage freezer and was salivating. Cutlets. We ended up getting a lot of cutlets. I wasn't sure how that was going to be, as cutlets weren't something I would normally buy. Holy cow! They were fantastic! Such an easy cut for a weekday meal when I get home from work and need to feed my family something healthy and great. We got soup bones (with which I made some amazing bone broth), we got tons of ground beef, some outstanding steaks and roasts and even the gem, hangar steak (if you don't know what that is, look it up). Since that first whole cow, we've done it again and loved every bite. Then a few weeks ago, we contacted Patty at BCC and asked if we could bring our kids out to visit her and the ranch. Not only did she agree, she was excited about it. Giving us directions over the phone with excitement. We got there and could not have been more amazed. The ranch is gorgeous. The cows are beautiful and happy. Patty gave us a full on walking and driving tour. She explained to us why feed lots are horrible. She explained why her cattle are so great. Her passion for what she does is amazing. We loaded up on more beef before we left and the kids haven't stopped talking about our trip since. So, the moral of the story: know where your food comes from, know what goes into producing it and if you're lucky enough to live close to where your beef comes from, load up the family and pay BCC a visit.
