I ordered the Turkey plate and with Mac & Cheese and Potato Salad. It was a large portion of food so prepare to take the rest home. I also tasted pork ribs off my wife's plate and they were delicious. I enjoyed the turkey where it had great flavor and soft enough to cut with a fork. Nice place. Good enough food. Not nice Carvers. Ever. They're always super snotty and angry about special requests like, "end cut." I get a kick out of it when I ask for my brisket end cut and the carver tries to convince me turning around their cut piece of meat qualifies as the end cut. Excellent location. Superb service. Very good seating/spacing. Food was great. I met my cousins from Houston half way and decided on this place as our meeting place and to have lunch. None complained about the food. I think the portions were good. The food was tasty and the bbq sauce added the final touch. I think prices were very good. The extra star on my review may have been for the need to give me more cobbler, but I understand, that may have been reserved for a scoop of ice cream that I decided not to take. The cobbler was good. It was not overly sweet. While I have had better, I enjoyed this. The banana pudding was very good per my cousins. They said it was nice and clumpy with the bananas and tasted great with whip cream and vanilla wafers. Yum for them. Service was superb because they were right there to help us and talk us through our menu explanation if required. They cleaned our table as required as we ate. I have to say that every food item I have eaten at southside barbecue is good. The food is kind of pricey but if you're willing to pay for good barbecue, this is the place in Bastrop. Around meal time, the line can get fairly long but does move consistently. Personally, I think the sliced brisket is the best meat. All of the meat plates are good. I have tried their baked potato with brisket and was very surprised that I just did not care for it. I'm usually a fan of stuffed baked potatoes but not these. If you are still hungry after eating, they have peach cobbler and ice cream for dessert! The inside dining area is very spacious and you can either sit at one of their long tables or in a booth. They also have an"outer" dining area which is still enclosed, with windows on all three sides and has more of a picnic atmosphere. Our family has had several birthday meals and gatherings out there. It's a nice space with a little more privacy for a large group. And they don't mind if you bring in a birthday cake! The sausage was good. The brisket was also flavorful but extremely fatty. Neither meat had a hint of smoke which was disappointing. Portions were small. My kiddo said the mac & cheese was good. Really enjoyed this restaurant. We were in Texas to visit family and they brought us here. The restaurant is a standalone location with a huge parking lot. Once you get out of your car you can smell the smoked barbecue in the air. The inside is big with lots of tables. We ordered a family meal of the brisket and sausage with sides of Mac and cheese, beans and potato salad. The meal comes with a whole loaf of bread! It's a BBQ spot in essence but more of a Dickies type fast food type which I was not expecting or aware of but also not a negative thing. Where the restaurant suffered for me was the quality of the food. The brisket I got with my combo was lukewarm at best as well as the jalapeño cheddar sausage. The sausage slammer I had was great as well as the beans. The Mac and cheese missed the spot for me as it felt bland and the breadcrumbs didn't elevate it at all. Lately, I have noticed when we stop in now and then (over these past years); there have been such a turnover in female personnel. We have a Ladies group that likes going out to eat at same chain restaurants/fast food in different locations. We like seeing friendly (female) staff that is welcoming and somehow we get acquainted over time and then suddenly a visit and their gone. Fortunately, we see them at other franchises and after a bit of persistence; we find out that they were fired for reporting sexual harassment from 1 or 2 particular male coworkers that once they reported them to managerial staff. Instead of authoritive action taken towards the perpretator--they are fired immediately. I don't think the original location for the Bracewells appreciate having their family reputation be to allow such actions among their staff members. Some peculiar reason; the Bastrop location seems to be common of this continual actions to their younger female staff ( the same persons). Many of us remember our younger years of working in different franchises throughout different states and knowledge of such actions, yet company policies were more justified in consequences to the predators and value to the victims. Nowadays, many more women are more alert and know their safety and value is important to their workplace. Many of us like to continue at workplaces where we have longevity and not fear being fired for standing up for our rights and safety. Guess the og and Hutto locations will be our only regular lunch spots on our explorations around Central Texas going forward. The brisket was good, but not out of this world to go out of your way. The potato salad I give a thumbs up with some of their spicy bbq sauce on top. Beans I'm sorry no flavor. Also only beer and sodas are served. No liquor, wine or seltzers. They do have a nice little meat market in the restaurant. I thought it wasn't a bad deal for the Summer Sausage for $6.49.
