Gotta say, my heart and belly are in love. Maybe I'm biased because I discovered this place with my sweet one, and it's a beautiful day with all the good vibes. But really, how can you not love bread and cheese? We walked in and there was only one veggie Kolache left in the case, but I made do with some coffee. My partner got one with brisket and another with sausage. They came out hot and full of flavor. We were told some more veggie ones would be coming out soon, so we decided to hang out. When I asked about them a while later, they only had ready the same one I ate originally so I opted out. They were very apologetic, though, and let me know they usually have plenty of veggie ones available. We lounged around for a while, feeling as though we were in our living room, and were happy as clams. Right as we were about to leave, Nico brought over the chipotle veggie sausage and cheese as a gift for us waiting on them before. What a sweetheart! They really know how to make their customers feel welcome, with comfortable seating, delicious food, and amazing service. Definitely give them a visit if you haven't already. This was our last stop in Austin before we hit the road back to Houston. It was pretty early in the am when we arrived, I noticed how quiet and serene this place was, very welcoming. We walked in and were met with smiles and kindness, and even a good morning. I ordered a cold brew coffee and a pb&j, poppy seed and a brisket pickle Swiss kolache. We stayed in the restaurant and had breakfast. It was such a cool place. Eclectic furniture including some mid-century modern pieces. The coffee was fantastic as well as the kolaches. Wow. I gotta say, as a vegetarian, kolaches have always been dead to me. Dead. However, I heard that Batch does veggie sausage kolaches and I had to try them. They were so damn good and I can't stop thinking about them! I went for brunch last week and ordered an Americano with a veggie sausage and gouda, and veggie sausage with jalapeno and cheddar and they were awesome. The setup inside was super quaint, no frills. Before my trip to Austin I had no idea what a Kolache was. Talking to one of the guys on our bachelor party trip, he said while you're here, you need to try a kolache. Sure enough, I let Yelp find the best and closest place to use that served these. We came in on a Saturday morning looking for something to cure a previous night of heavy boozing. As you pull in, you will notice that the parking lot is pretty small but we did not have a problem finding parking. We walked in and was immediately greeted by a line of patrons waiting to order. This is a really cool spot! I love the vibe they have here, especially the outdoor area. There are plenty of picnic tables, ping pong tables, corn hole, and more. Have been here a number of times but only just now reviewing. This is the first time I've been since they had Feisty Bites food truck on site and that is a game changer. Don't get me wrong, Batch's kolaches are delicious, there are so many interesting beers to try, and the big, shady yard is a lovely place to chill, but this place was always missing something for me. I want kolaches for breakfast, but not really later in the day. I want beer later in the day, but not with breakfast. It was a dilema. But NOW! Problem solved thanks to the food truck! Feisty Bites is AMAZING, y'all. Absolutely fresh, satisfying Vietnamese food and the owner was so, so nice. (I'd review them separately, but they don't seem to be on Yelp yet?) Now my whole family can come and find food and drinks they love: craft beer for my husband, fresh Vietnamese food for me, kolaches and room to roam for my kiddo. It's a win all around. Also, considering it's been 100+ degrees lately, the shade and fans make it one of the few places we can actually stand being outside. Wonderful everytime! Staff are so sweet, the space is always vibing and the beer and wine selection is spectacular! Oh and most importantly, the kolaches are to die for! I've tired every kolache on the menu and the brisket, Swiss and pickle and the Pepperoni Pizza ones are by far my favorite. One is good for a meal for me but if I'm especially hungry, two does the trick. They always have amazing, unique beers on draft and you can always grab something out of the cooler and crack it open there for a small corkage fee. Pro-tip: no corkage happy hour from 4-7! I'm usually a rosé gal and they have one along with a red and a white wine on tap too! Grab a seat out in the backyard on a nice day, or enjoy some live music most nights. Thursday's are jazz nights and we really try to make it there for Thursday nights! They're going to have a bacce court soon so keep an eye out for that. Quite the coffee menu as well for early risers. Greater Goods is their bean of choice - quite the choice in my opinion as I love Greater Goods. This was a good find I stumbled upon on yelp! We went on a quiet Tuesday morning and enjoyed a nice cup of coffee paired with their delicious kolaches! We ordered the brisket+pickles+Swiss kolache and the sausage + jalapeño kolache. They packed in a lot of flavor in their meat and the roll. Then for a sweet option we ordered their strawberry and cream - WOW. It was so good, it was almost like a strawberry shortcake with little crumbles on top. Breakfast for dinner! This place was on a raider for quite a while and I just couldn't make up my mind whether I want to come here for a brunch or for beer. Eventually I came up with a solution: go there for dinner! You get to enjoy both beer and kolache (which are called pirogi in my country ) - everybody wins! The quality and flavor of the kolaches is above and beyond. Coming from a person who typically stays away from puffs and breads, this is quite a compliment. I almost came here the afternoon before and got side tracked, but as I was leaving town Austin morning a beer and kolaches seemed a great idea before making our way back to Houston. Coffeehouse setup, you order up front, then find a seat and get down. Not sure what to expect we made our way here, walked in and were surprised by the coolers full of beer optoins. They definitely have some great variety, though I wasn't really understanding the corkage fees, to open a can or bottle of beer on site.. Seems quite costly, that would never fly in Houston, but whatever.. To each their own, Austin you are certainly weird. We got 5 different kolaches, Pepperoni, Jalapeno Cheese Sausage, Sausage w/ cheese, brisket/pickle/swiss and a PBJ. I'm pretty sure I got charged for the PBJ initially too, but had to go back for it and pay again. Whatever, it was $3, but I felt swindled for like 3 seconds. Behind the building is a large fenced patio area for amusing your dog. It wasn't super busy when we stopped in, but I can imagine it probably get's fairly packed on a busy weekend morning. read more

4 & 1/2 If you've been following my latest blast of reviews, you may have by now noticed I was somewhat fixated on Kolaches, the Texan by way of Czech staple pastry that can be presented as either sweet or savory and is generally served at breakfast. The elevated versions were the best of the trip. Whats more the carb-centric concept is pretty damn genius, pairing Kolaches with beer and offering them all day (or until they run our anyway). The selection of cans and bottled beers was astonishingly robust and the selection of mostly local brews on tap very well curated, as well as really gently priced particularly if purchased to go, and the IPA I selected hoppy and delicious. As for the Kolaches, we sampled a few. The dough was uniformly flaky and delicate in contrast to the doughy leaden version sometimes found at the more mass producing outlets, as well as a bit less sweet. The most unconventional of the bunch was a pepperoni pizza version which cleverly and tastily evoked the taste. Better still was a delicious brisket and pickle option filled with the local bbq great Micklethwait Craft Meats and some great and tangy house made pickles. They miraculously managed to keep the brisket incredibly juicy even after being baked into the dough. The traditionally Texas beef sausage and jalapeño kolache was similarly elevated and delicious, but the sleeper hit of the meal just might have been the seemingly basic sounding jalapeño and cheese that was recommended but the server, with the cheese oozing out of the kolache when opened and yielding the most delicious and decadent results imaginable. We topped it off with he daily special dessert varietal, a collaboration with the local outlet the jester king featuring some combination of peanut butter and chocolate to delicious effect. The place was buzzing midday with the typical Austin blend of freelancers and layabouts lingering around on laptops and phones while nursing beers or coffee and perhaps nibbling on the delicious kolaches, and seems to have already become an institution in the somewhat scruffy East side neighborhood. With good reason, although I am tempted to say that I would love to have it in my Hood, I think its squarely for the best my visits here will be limited to when in ATX, as I certainly have more than enough carbs in regular rotation in my life as it is. read more

I've lived in Mueller for 5+ years but now live on the side that is closer to batch so I find myself coming here more now than ever and can't be prouder to call them neighbors! What's not to love? Great Kolaches good atmosphere (large backyard that is kid and pup friendly and big fans for the summer time)! They are kind of no frills when it comes to their coffee but sometimes that's all you need. There aren't many places in Austin where you can get a latte for $3.00. The Kolaches are amazing and melt in your mouth worthy although and usually I have a sweet tooth but I find myself liking the savory ones more than the sweet ones. The pepperoni kolache is a great modern twist! The third reason to love them is their amazing beer! They only recently started making their own beer and they have great light beer which pairs well with the kolaches! If you come in the afternoon for sundays you'll often see a line so be patient, it's worth it! read more

You can get savory klobasniky and finish with your sweet kolache while enjoying coffee/beer/wine/cider. Blown away! Was very excited to try these kolaches. Definitely a step above what most Texans get in West, TX. The kolaches were fresh, well made, and always being restocked. We got the sausage with jalepeno, brisket, pepperoni, and chocolate pecan. When you take a bite and look inside, the meat is well stacked inside to where you definitely get your money's worth. I'm very glad Batch is open inside now and has increased production of the kolaches. What I love about the beer is that they are very creative, try a lot of new recipes, and find new combinations, like good chefs. My favorites are the regular stout (richest, best stout I've ever had) and a stout with pecan, caramel and oak. I prefer malty beer, not really the style these days. But everyone I drink with likes their IPAs. The atmosphere, inside and out, is great: very laid back and pleasant. And they have had some really good events before Covid. I got free salsa lessons one night. Generally, lots of good jazz. The kolaches are very special, delicious bread, good fillings. My favorite is the jalapeno, sausage and cheese. This place is adorable. The backyard is dog-friendly and the inside has a rustic and modern decor and very spacious and comfortable. We came in to try the breakfast kolaches. If you don't know what kolaches are (which I didn't), it's a popular Czech pastry (think brioche with fillings). We tried the Monday Special (eggs, sausauge and jelepano - there's a different special daily), brisket, one with some kind of vegetarian meat, peanut butter and jam and raspberry cream cheese. My favorite was the breakfast special, my boyfriend liked the brisket one (he's a fan of brisket and I'm not), and the other friend liked the raspberry one. I love the compost system here, and all the baristas were super nice. Great place to get some kolaches, study or just hang out. read more

Ordered 3 kolaches: new chipotle (has a kick!), gouda/veggie sausage (liked the gouda, veggie sausage was OK), and the season fruit kolaches (snagged the last one!). Easily the most delicious kolaches I've ever tasted. The pastry itself is so buttery and soft and flavorful, and Batch has loads of different options from sweet to savory. I've tried several of both. Probably my favorite savory flavors are the brisket with pickle and Swiss, the cheese with poppy seeds, and the sausage with jalapeño and cheese. I really love that Batch uses local meats in their kolaches. Also, local baker Jasmine Jones is in charge of the dough for the kolache. She is obviously a wizard because the pastry is AMAZING. I like the sweet flavors as well, but prefer the seasonal sweet kolaches. Last was spiced peach, and this month is fig with whipped cream cheese. The sweet kolaches have a different type of pastry, softer and fluffier than the savory and more round with the filling sitting on top rather than folded into the center. Oh, also they have literally hundreds of beers. One wall is entirely dedicated to beer and cider. They have draft beer on tap as well. Look, I don't know a Kolache from a Cronut, so I'm going to leave that to the supposed professionals of the stuffed pastries world. What it isn't is a Cornish Pasty. That I know for sure. However, this is a tasty pastry stuffed with food stuff. As with almost all new places opening in Austin, the venue was buzzing with people anxious to get some of these things in their bellies. There is an impressive "Wall of Beer" where you can mix/match your own six pack. However, I think you can only drink them in house because when you present your beer to the check out folks, they require them to be opened by staff. I think this is how their beer prices are redonkulasly low. I ordered up some to take away to the wifey and snarfued a few in house. Micklethwaits Sausage and Cheese, Micklethwaits Sausage Jalapeno and Cheese, Micklethwaits Brisket, Pickle, and Swiss, Pepperoni Pizza, Jalopeno and Cheese were the savory's. I think that was all the savory ones apart from a few Vegetarian options. I also got a sweet one: Chocolate, Pecan, and Caramel. Yeah, that's just not fair for the taste buds. These were all very scrumptious. I don't care if they were made earlier in the morning and need a little help from a micro to heat them back up. Why are people so critical these days. There is no way they could make these to order when there is a line out the door and besides, the ones I brought home were heated up and were delightful. Nuff said. I don't have much to complain about, apart from it's a long way from SW Austin where I live. There is plenty of parking in the back of the restaurant, very limited in the front and someone is or already has backed into the tree across from the front parking spaces. The price point, to me at least, is remarkably inexpensive and add to that the beer prices makes me wonder how they will make a living at this. I'm sure they have a solid business plan. There is the back patio area with loads of places to sit and I'm sure soon enough, the ubiquitous Live Music, which I so much dislike. But, I'm an old "Get off my lawn" guy, so perhaps this would appeal to the neighborhood where Batch resides. There's more beer choices than I could handle, and the bartender was absolutely helpful when I said, "i'm looking for a non-hoppy, super light, girl beer." and I was handed me the perfect pint. Inside was filled with beautiful people chatting away, smiling under the flickering lights, tossing their heads back in cordial laughter. so I sat alone in the corner. Outside has picnic tables, large umbrellas, and misters. There are some sort of random games, and outside is where the families hang out. The gated giant patio makes for a fantastic baby jail, where parents can drink, and kids can run amok. The best part about outside was the smell. The sweet smell of freshly baked kolache dough is intoxicating. A woman in my group was very confused with her seemingly empty kolache, but i'm not a certified kolaches scientist. read more

3.5 for me. I've been excited to give these guys a try since hearing about the idea. Who doesn't love kolaches, and beer? The place was packed for the opening with a line waiting out the door, and a pretty full lot right off the bat. The decor is really nice and modern looking with cool art, looks immaculate with plenty of seating inside and out, and the beer selection is amazing. Well priced coolers of bottled/canned beers with a $2 cork/unopening fee that even with that charge come out to be a very fair price. (~$4 total for most standard 12 oz beers) You can even get mix 6 packs to take home like a craft beer market which is a really cool idea. Beers on tap were definitely more expensive, but with nice quality, mostly local beers to choose from. I went with a brisket, pickle & swiss, a jalapeno cheese & sausage & a blackberry sweet cheese kolache and an espresso. Understandable that there will be some kinks dealing with the opening day and the ordering was a bit slower than ideal, but they'll iron that out over time I imagine. I got a mixed up order, but it was happily corrected quickly. I definitely recommend getting the kolaches heated up, as a cool, room temperature kolache just doesn't hit the spot and they came out that way by default. The jalapeno cheese sausage kolache was very tasty and seemed to be the most popular. The brisket pickle and swiss was remarkably un-smoky and a bit bland and tasted more like pot roast brisket than savory & smoked unfortunately, and really missed out on that rich smoky bbq brisket flavor. The blackberry sweet cheese kolache was also really good as well and I would get that again. The espresso definitely needs some work and despite being really well priced at just $1.50 came out almost undrinkably sour and offputting. (underextracted, i guess, or not ground fine enough or water too cool?) All in all, the kolaches are just a tad hit/miss but mostly good, and definitely pricier than elsewhere in town by a decent amount. I love the beer selection and choice of bottles/cans to drink there or take home, and the location and ambiance is cool. I wasn't happy at all with the espresso, but maybe that will improve over time? I'd like to try a couple more things off the menu, and grab a couple beers as well, so I will be back at some point still. read more

What a place! Some friends and I came on a Rent Party Tuesday evening. The atmosphere was perfect - we curled up on a couch, enjoyed some delicious wine and beer from Batch's well-stocked fridge, and just soaked in the music. The band did an amazing job and a few people actually got up and swing danced around the tables. I also treated myself to a Brisket kolache which was reasonably priced and delicious. This is a hidden gem. The kolaches are awesome. They might be the best I have ever had. I would highly recommend. Also, the beer is some of the best in town. It's very west coast i I personally think the west coast has some awesome beer. Went and bought some of their HB8 beer that tasted great and helped fight the new anti-abortion laws. Who doesn't like kolaches? These guys have a pretty good selection. The jalapeno, sausage, and cheese was our favorite hands down. The brisket and swiss was good too. They have an impressive wall cooler of can/bottle beer, and a few on tap. And that's it. If you don't find your happiness in a kolache, you're out of luck. If they're getting the brisket and sausage from Micklethwait, maybe they need to talk about getting a tub of slaw or some kind of side too. It would have made this a far more lunch worthy destination. Don't get me wrong though, the bread for these kolaches is perfect. It's certainly worth a try. read more

Such a nice place to visit in the morning. Beautiful people working here (very sweet employees) and the ambiance is great. I tried the Brisket, pickle and Swiss Kolaches and it was yum, paired with a house brew. This is a cute spot for sure. I'll be back! read more
