We hired Battres Construction (BC) to remake our Fountain Valley Condo located in the Tiburon Complex. Having seen their work, I was confident BC could handle the tasks. The condominium underwent a comprehensive renovation, encompassing all aspects from the Kitchen, Bathrooms, new Wine Bar, new flooring throughout the Condo, recessed lighting, painting the entire house and the project duration spanned five months. Unexpected delays occurred, unrelated to BC, but Battres promptly addressed all of the issues. Built in the early 1970s, the condominium needed major renovations, and we worked closely with the Battres Team, (Project Manager, Construction, Electrician, Plumbing, Architectural Design, Flooring and Paint) every member of the Team was prompt, professional and courteous making the project a remarkable experience. Since BC has an amazing Staff of construction professionals, whenever an unexpected issue arose, BC would bring in Team Members to work through the obstacles. As an example, the flooring we selected was a new product and had a special spacing requirement. Both Izzy and Sam made the decision to correct the spacing issue requirement - all at no cost to us. This kept BC onsite for a few days longer but still within their estimated project timeline. We used the BC Design Team to help create a Wine Bar and update the Master Bedroom Closet. The BC Design changes made a huge improvement to the final Condo project, and we cannot be more pleased with the final Battres Construction results. We will use Battres in the future and we highly recommend if you are thinking of a remodel, have Battres Construction provide you with an estimate. read more

I am a little late writing this review. We uses BATTRES CONSTRUCTION. We recently had our bathroom (to add a ANA and they did it in a way that look just like a luxury bathroom not a A normal ADA but function as an ADA) and bedroom extended and our kitchen remodeled. We also had our entire house new floors. Not only did they exceeded our expectation. The quality of workmanship was outstanding. The crew were the best of the best. Juan the project manager went way way beyond his job. He checked recheck to make sure everything was perfect.We had to say in our house during the construction and he and the crew made it so that we could they went out of their way to make us comfortable. The entire company was involved in some way. We had someone in every department help me with anything I might need I want to thank Lilly ,Celeste, they helped me with designing took me out looking at products, Lilly saved me so much money. She and Celeste would go out of their way to find me the best prices for items I l wanted. They would search to find it for the best prices . We love our house. Our kitchen was a lot of work. I had a step up kitchen and needed to bring my floors to one level. They had to take concrete out and do other things to get it right. But they did. The entire crews attention to detail were top rated. Chewy Raul, and Juan and other guys that came in were incredible to work with. Izzy The owner came all the time checking on the guys and us an Help us with so many ideas that made sense. My do misses saying good morning to all the guys. I had to remodel my kitchen and bathrooms, add storage and make the kitchen and dining area more functional. I also needed a designer to help accomplish this without adding square footage. I contacted Battres Construction and was so glad I did. With Izzy's construction knowledge and Lily's design expertise the finished product exceeded my expectations. They knocked down walls to open up the space between the kitchen and dining room; and relocated the laundry room so that it stood inside the house and not moved to the garage (which was a deal breaker for me). I was impressed with the crew's work ethic...they arrived early every day and I never saw them idle (I was staying next door while the work was being done). The project manager, Juan, was very responsive and dealt with questions I had. I was also impressed with their attention to detail. Most importantly, it was the most stressless experience I had with such a major project. Which was not the same with previous projects, making me delay this project for as long as I could. Hired Battress Construction for the construction of a full home remodel. The footprint remained the same, except for the removal of one load-bearing wall. Every surface in the house changed. Overall, the project came in very close to the original budget. A few unexpected issues came up (which is pretty normal for a remodel), and I also added a couple of things along the way, which did add expense, but the original bid for the original scope of work was as expected. The overall timeline was pushed out about a month and a half due to the additional scope of work. Battress has a team that handles much of the work, but they also use subcontractors. The Battress team was solid to work with--professional, patient, and on schedule. They pushed at the end to get me back in my house just after Thanksgiving. Communication was good, and they were responsive when questions or changes came up. While no remodel is ever perfect, the overall experience was very positive, and the end result is stunning. I initially had trouble getting in touch with someone, but eventually scheduled a phone appointment. I called in at the agreed time and spoke with a representative who seemed a bit unsure but took the time to go over the home improvements I had in mind and my budget. They said the project was within their scope, but there would be a fee just to provide an estimate. Shortly after, someone else called to apologize for being 30 minutes late to the appointment, explaining they were very busy. As someone who has worked in sales my entire career, I find it unusual--and a bit excessive--to charge potential customers just to provide a proposal. We did a large 800 sq foot addition plus remodel addition with Battres Construction . They were out here everyday . Not one day off from stay to finish . The work was completed in 5 months ! All the other contractors said 1 year to 1 1/2 years . From start to finish their work and communication was Top of the Line ! We had Juan as our Pm and his attention to detail was excellent ! Israel over looked the project and went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. We have recommended them to several friends and they were also extremely happy with Battres. We would 100 Percent recommend Battres for any home remodel or home addition work. We get compliments all the time about how great the project looks . I hired Battres to do an extensive backyard remodel and pool build. I spent over 18 months working with them between initial planning stages, contract negotiations, and finally during the build. Bottom line: I would not recommend hiring them for any exterior work. Perhaps they are better at interior remodel - I can't speak to that. But steer clear for exterior work and find a contractor that specializes in it. Pros: - The subcontractor they hired to build the pool and outdoor kitchen were phenomenal. I would have never known about that team unless I hired Battres so that's the reason this isn't a one star review. I would work with that team again in a heartbeat. - It was always easy to get ahold of my project manager, which was appreciated. When things did go wrong (and plenty did), they at least attempted to make things right, which I respect. Cons: - Massively overpriced for all the problems I endured. I thought I was saving myself headache by paying more for a "reputable" GC to manage the project, but I was completely wrong. If I were to do this again, I'd just hire a pool builder directly at a much lower price. - I often felt I was managing the project myself. If I wasn't constantly reminding my PM of things and directing things, even more would have gone wrong. You cannot rely on them for driving the process independently or even remembering some of the key issues that were discussed. - While they did attempt to make issues right, they fell short of expectations most of the time. We have some "solutions" but some of this shouldn't have been problems to begin with if the project was managed appropriately, and I have to live with these shoddy "solutions" for as long as I have this house. - Every sub they brought out besides the pool sub was incompetent at best or completely negligent at worst. HVAC, landscaping, etc... All awful experiences with material mistakes. The landscaping in particular was egregious. I lost track of how many times we had to bring that same landscaping team out to fix issues they caused. Some of the issues were incredibly serious, like shoddy wiring done for my outdoor lighting that could have caused a fire if it wasn't caught and fixed by the pool sub. It's been a couple of months since my project was "finished" and something horrible has gone wrong with the irrigation in the middle of the night that I am now trying to work with them to fix. My PM did not review any of the sub's work well enough to do effective quality control to prevent/catch mistakes before I was catching them or they became latent problems. I wanted to like working with them and to have a positive experience, but all I can say is I'm glad most of this is behind me now. read more

Every room of my townhouse was being touched or redone in some form or fashion, especially my kitchen where a wall was removed in order to have a more open concept, along with the layout of my kitchen cabinets being re-configurated and custom cabinets brought in. It is my distinct pleasure to write a 5 star review for Battres Construction. Their project team were very professional, on time, and good-humored through my entire renovation project. I had thought I'd just start with one bathroom, which quickly turned into both bathrooms, and the kitchen. Before we were finished, my entire house had had work done in every single room including the hallway! Jonathan was a fantastic sales person, never tried to talk me into or out of anything. He loved all my ideas, and when I came up with something that didn't work, he would gently guide me to another idea. Our project manager, Rudy (the oldest of the Battres brothers) was so easy to work with. He would take my calls, emails, or texts at any time, and he never made me feel like I was bothering him. I'm sure a few of my last minute changes made him roll his eyes, but he was so accommodating and happy to do what I liked, that he never made me feel like a bother. Our construction foreman, Carlos, is the sweetest, kindest man ever! I couldn't be more happy with our renovation project. I will, however, caution anyone from living in the house while construction is happening (full disclosure, Israel warned me that it would be hard, very hard). It was SO hard, and I will never do it again. But every night when I came home, the mess was cleaned up, and I never had stray nails or materials in the house, the yard or on the street. They did a phenomenal job at daily clean up! One of the unique aspects to their company is that the crew is all on their payroll. They don't subcontract out very much, so if something needed to happen with electrical, that crew was out, then plumbing, then the drywall guy would come. It was interesting to watch the coordination of all the trades. If they fell a little bit behind, then someone would come on a Saturday morning to finish up, to keep to the schedule for Monday morning. I researched several construction companies, and Battres is not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. They are high quality, come in on time, and on budget. All overruns are discussed and signed off in advance. They will work as quick or as slow as you need them to, given your own city's inspectors. I think the hardest part of the project is that it's over. We made friends with the entire crew, and they "lived" in my house daily for many weeks. I miss visiting with them, waving hello, and the smiles and happiness they brought to the project. Such a class act! read more

I trusted Battres Construction to remodel my entire home and am very happy with the experience. The remodel was done very well and my house looks incredible! With my initial call to set up an appointment, Maggie answered the phone and was an absolute pleasure to work with. Israel came out multiple times to walk through the house and discuss the project, and was very knowledgeable, helpful, and made great suggestions. The team did a nice job with the demolition to the studs and the worksite was always left very clean. New electrical, cabinets, countertops, windows, drywall, insulation, flooring, tile, doors, molding, finishes and much more were installed. Juan managed the onsite work and did a fantastic job with his meticulous attention to detail. Nothing was overlooked and the craftsmanship of the work is outstanding. Decorative tile is the focal point of the bathrooms and kitchen, and it looks amazing. Antonio installed it beautifully and hand cut many of the pieces to create a custom look. I absolutely love my kitchen where we incorporated Jonathan's design layout. All and all they went above and beyond paying great attention to detail. Throughout the entire process I thought that the Battres team was very collaborative with me on solutions and design. They suggested modifications that pulled it all together to look fantastic and were also respectful of my budget. In addition, they did a good job communicating with me throughout the project. Made an appointment over 3 weeks ahead of time, and at the day and time of the appointment, no show. Not a call, nothing. Took time off work to meet and work around their schedule Worse yet, when calling their number, you get an "Application Error" voice and then it hangs up. Their VM system obviously went down or something but you would think they would be on that and switch off so they can at least take calls. Very disappointing!!!! read more

4-4.5 star rating We had Battres Construction renovate our master bathroom. We had a "90's" style bathroom with a corner jacuzzi tub, glass block peep through window, etc. We left the overall layout the same, but replaced and updated everything: new flooring, new (much larger) shower, new (smaller) tub/surround, new cabinets, new countertops, new sinks/fixtures, new toilet, new paint and closed up an old glass block window on an exterior facing wall. We also had Battres change the countertop, sink, fixtures in another bathroom as well. We did have other contractors bid on the project, but chose Battres due to their professionalism, reasonable quote, good reputation, and work we've seen on HGTV's Flip or Flop. In general, we wanted to go with a company rather than a 1-man team who subbed out everything, so we only received quotes from established companies with multiple employees. Battres did use vendors for a lot of the work, but at least we knew they would manage everything and had prior experience working with those vendors. We had a GREAT foreman/onsite project manager, Ray. We cannot rave enough about Ray and how amazing he was! He was extremely detailed oriented, very professional and courteous, great work ethic and was always receptive to our needs and feedback. I telecommute, so I was at home every day throughout the reno process and to see the work as it progressed. This was our first major house renovation, so we assumed there would be some hiccups along the way, and there was. But we worked together to find solutions to all of the hiccups. We didn't have a time tight schedule in terms of a must finish date, so if you do, you'll need to work with them to meet that deadline. They exceeded the initial time estimate by over 2 weeks, but we wanted the work done right and not rushed, so we were okay with that. It wasn't ideal, but it was acceptable to us. In terms of money/budget, we never had an issue with Battres trying to upsell us or charge us extra for items. They stuck to their estimate, unless we changed materials or scope of work. Would we recommend Battres Construction? YES, we definitely would and have already recommended them to other friends and family. If we have other home improvement projects in the future, we would definitely consider working with Battres again. read more

We were out of the area so we needed to trust the work they did and we felt they were very honest and trust worthy and conscientious about budget. They absolutely transformed my mother's house and took care of all the minor issues that came up. We were able to get offers on the house within a few days of putting it on the market. I really wanted to give this company 5 stars, but after doing business with them, I was disappointed. I didn't stay in my home while the construction was going on, so during the final walk through, some small things I didn't see. I reached out to Jonathan on several occasions, even texting him detailed info on what needed to be corrected. He said they would come out and take care of it, but they never did. When I followed up again, he acted surprised that they hadn't come to fix everything and said he'd talk to Rudy again, but the issues still haven't been corrected. The painters they used on my house were not very good at prepping and did not smooth certain areas properly. There was a new ceiling put in one of the bedrooms that at certain times of the day, you can see where the nails are and where the drywall meets - almost looks cracked. The painters put texturizer on the ceiling but clearly they should have put the drywall paste (not sure if that's what it's called) and smoothed it more. The painters also painted several of my door knobs. One of the doors in my kitchen was removed and they didn't even patch and smooth where the door brackets were, so you can see where the screws used to be. The painters also left a crack in one of the walls, which I'm sure they noticed when they were painting - rush job I'm sure. For the amount of money I spent with this company, they should have made sure that everything was done properly... I'm sure they saw things but chose to overlook them. The owner of the company seems to be a very nice person and should be aware of side deals his brother does for extras. I will say that I love my kitchen and bathroom and Carlos is a gem. read more

We recently used Battres Construction to do some major renovations on a home purchase, and couldn't be happier with their service. One of the greatest fears of any home purchase is if the remodeling team can get everything you need completed by the time the original home you're living in closes escrow. Likewise, we were up against a hard deadline. Our old home had already sold and was in escrow. Our new home needed some major work: kitchen, flooring, wall, master bathroom, other odds and ends. Having seen the Battres team on TV, we took a gamble and figured they must be decent. Boy are we glad we did! Cesar, our project lead, and Sammy, our project manager, were awesome. I could tell the day Cesar took us to shop for flooring, tile etc that this is a guy who is passionate about his job. Sammy really knew his stuff and gave us invaluable tips on how we could save money here and there. Both were very patient in guiding us through the process. Throughout the renovations Sammy was always accessible via text message or emails. He would take photos and send updates to us asking for our feedback so that minimal time was wasted. In the end, the team finished on time due to round the clock work near the end. That's a team dedicated to hitting deadlines. We are now moved into our renovated home and couldn't be more pleased with the result. A huge thank you to Cesar, Sammy and the entire team. We hired Battres to do a full remodel at our house. They were excellent to work with. They told us the whole project would take 9 weeks, and we were back in our beautiful home within 8 weeks. Rudy Battres took personal responsibility for the entire project. As with any project of this size, things are bound to go slightly wrong. Anytime something wasn't quite right, whether it was something we noticed or something the Battres team noticed, they made sure to make it right. My biggest concern going into a remodel like this was that were going to agree on a price and the scope of work, then once the contractor had us "on the hook", they were going to try and upsell us. There was none of that! The Battres team stuck to the pricing they gave us before the first day of construction. Any changes to the remodel were requested by us. Also, the crew they had working at our house was great. They were trustworthy and efficient. In the eight weeks they were at our house, aside from Sundays, they only took about four Saturdays off. We felt like our home was a top priority for them. After the job was done, we noticed a couple minor things that still needed to be taken care of (i.e. paint touch-ups, crown moulding touch-ups, etc.). They came back and took care of everything we asked them to take care of, no questions asked. We worked with designer Cesar, who really listened to concerns and was able to come up with great ideas and stay within a budget. Project manager Sam was very easy to work with, and flexible to schedule around my frequent travel. I was especially impressed that construction lead Enrique would rework to correct minor imperfections before I needed to point them out. My only criticism is that some of their subcontractors (drywall/texturing and countertop, in particular) were messy. That was noticeable since I was living in the house throughout the construction. I watch a lot of HGTV, and one of my favorite TV shows is Flip or Flop. Thus, when we recently needed to get 3 of the bathrooms in our home remodeled, I decided to contact the contractor on that show--Battres Construction. My wife and I also met with 2 contractors that we liked as well. However, we ended up going with Battres because we were able to tangibly see their work product on the TV episodes that I recorded. As for pricing, they were right in the middle. Israel Battres, the owner of the company, is very nice and easy to talk to. He spent a great deal of time explaining to us the details of our project. In addition, he provided us several money saving options in our remodeling plan. Rudy, the manager, was also very helpful because he helped us resolve several issues that came up both during and after the remodeling project. We had our 3 bathrooms completed a couple of days ago. Everything now looks good. Battres Construction does have a 1 year warranty, but hopefully we won't be in need of that. I would definitely use them again for any future remodeling projects. Their quote was reasonable and they estimated the project would be completed in one month. Sammy was our project manager and he was excellent. He communicated to us by text or email every step in the project and he came by to review the work almost every day. It was so helpful to have a project manager that was so responsive. We recently hired Battres to remodel our Kitchen, Living Room, Mud Room and Laundry Room and were absolutely thrilled with their work. They were always on time, finished the work when they said they would (8 weeks) and were extremely accommodating to all of our changes (and there were a lot). I was especially impressed by the ease of communication. They were always available and very responsive to all of our questions/concerns/changes/etc... There were a few minor issues that came up along the way, but anything that was done incorrectly, or wasn't working properly, was corrected immediately. We even had a couple minor things go wrong a couple months after they had finished (e.g. light switch stopped working) and they sent someone out the next day to fix it. All in all, it was a great experience and I would definitely hire them again. read more

I would give LESS than zero stars if I could. I've been a fan of Izzy Battres work on Flip or Flop for years, so I thought what better company to go with than his for the remodel I want to do on my home. On August 1st, I went to the Battres Construction website and filled out an interest/contact form and waited to be contacted. A week went by and nothing, so I filled out the website form again, and waited....still no response. So I called and spoke to a woman there who said she didn't have any record of my online submissions and said she would send someone out to give me an estimate for the work I wanted done and waive the fee. On August 18th Cesar, of Battres Construction and his helper showed up. I walked them through my entire house showing them all the changes I wanted to make to each room. I thought it was odd that Cesar wasn't writing anything down, but what did I know, maybe he has a photographic memory. On August 19th I received and email from Cesar stating: "Thank you for the opportunity of visiting your home yesterday. It was a pleasure meeting you and talking about your remodel. I will be sending out your proposal within 7-10 business days." On August 29th Cesar sent me a 2nd email stating: "The proposal will be ready by Thursday Sept. 1st or Friday Sept. 2nd at the latest." On August 29th I received a 3rd email (and this time he called me Janice, my name is Kay) he stated: "I had to leave to L.A for an Emergency but I will be working late tonight so I will have your proposal by tonight. Just want to let you know." Never heard back from him after that, so I sent an email asking if he was still working on my proposal, and this was his reply "Hi Kay, I truly apologize for the delay. I will have your proposal ready by Friday 100% sure. Thank you so much for your patients. Have a great day." No, that's not a typo, that's how he spelled patience, but at least he got my name right that time!! So now it's Sunday evening, 2 days after he promised the proposal (100% sure!!) and nothing. So I've wasted almost 6 weeks on this company. IZZY BATTRES, if you read your YELP reviews, and I sure hope that you do, you REALLY need to use my wasted time as a learning opportunity to work on your company's reliability and customer service. If you're too busy to take on new clients then just say so, and don't waste peoples time. read more

Battres Construction is the only company I would ever go with for a large project remodel. I found them off the TV show "Flip or Flop" and also saw the owners were Christian, which was important to me. Their quote actually came in the highest of my 3 bids, but when I met Cesar for the first time in our new house, he had so much knowledge and expertise than any of the other bidders, I knew they would be on track with their quote and respect my budget. Cesar, Sam, Gregorio, and the whole team were amazing from start to finish. We gutted our entire first floor down to the wood frames and Battres built it back up again piece by piece, all while we were living upstairs. They cleaned up after themselves every evening, and made sure all of their work was in one part of the garage. I think the big difference is that this company is larger, so they use their own internal employees for all the major work. This meant, that every morning during my 8 week remodel, I was met with the same friendly, familiar faces each time. All of their employees from floors, cabinet installers, tile, kitchen counters, etc.. had so much passion to their trade. They did impeccable, detailed work. Don't be fooled that Battres only does "flip" homes, because they do beautiful work. Battres came in ON my budget, and really never tried to upsell me on something I could not afford. They also finished ON TIME, which in my book, is unheard of in any industry! Couldn't recommend these guys more than I already have. The biggest thing I would take away from this experience is don't always go with the cheapest contractors, because who knows if they plan to ding you later on, by adding up "extra" costs for things that you assumed were part of the bid to start with. read more

Wouldn't even come out to give me an estimate a few months back because it wasn't a "full remodel". Asked me what I wanted to do, I needed entire house countertop changed (22slabs) 5bathrooms redo, entire house flooring, built an wine room. Now that I'm almost done, I guest 200k of remodel wasn't big enough of a project for you guys. read more

Let me state it was trying experience finding the right construction company. We've had one company who came in and wasted 2 hours of our live during dinner time. We've requested four different bids to which Battres Construction came somewhere in the middle. The guys were honest and provided their expertise. Israel, Rudy, Ray and Cesar are the guys you want to have working on your house. They kept the project within budget and would never try to sell you something you don't want. If there was something you didn't like they would work with you until you were happy with the results. You will have the best customer care from beginning to the end. read more

Never again that we will use this company. Very slow to finish the job, took their sweet time. But they are very quick in collecting the check even before the job is finished. As a home owner, you have to be pro active and know every detail of what they will install as it may be different than what's in the proposal. read more

After my prior review, the business reached out (including through Israel Battres, the owner) to apologize for the two missed appointments and reschedule. The sincerity of their emails and follow-through say a lot about the business, although it's unfortunate that it took writing a negative review to get to this point. In any event, I will update after the appointment. Even if we do not go forward with them on the remodel, it would be great to be able to report on a more positive experience with this local business. read more
