We were very impressed with Jack and the initial meeting but wanted to be thorough. We had meetings with 6 other companies throughout Orange County. After each meeting, we kept coming back to Pelican because of the fact that they manufactured their own cabinets and the impressive quality of those cabinets. Eventually we chose to sign with Pelican and now that the project is over, we undoubtedly chose correctly. During the design phase, Jack was extremely helpful and had great suggestions on how to refine our design to fit the needs of our space while also being happy to incorporate our ideas. Once construction started, our Project Manager Chris took over and ran everything perfectly. His constant communication and attention to detail trickled down to the construction team. There is no doubt the project was a success largely because of Chris. The various construction team throughout the project were all extremely nice, clean, and considerate. Our primary cabinet installer Mauricio deserves a special call out. His installation and carpentry was perfect. The countertop fabricator, Jose, was also incredible. I first used Pelican back in early 2024 to do a remodel/renovation of the kitchen and all bathrooms in my condominium in Newport Beach. Craig T. was our project manager. Craig T. is extremely personable and professional. I felt assured knowing that my project was going to be handled right with Craig T. at the helm. This year, I was finally ready to tackle the living room. Based on our positive experience with Pelican in 2024, we decided to use them again. It also made sense because then the cabinets in the living room would match with the cabinets in the kitchen and the bathrooms. Jack was our project designer who got us underway. I've been looking for a kitchen remodel and had a consultation with several companies. I came across with Dean from Guilin and he gave me a reasonable quote. He's very straight to the point (which I like) and drew me a suggested outline of the kitchen. After researching about their company and works, my husband and I decided to get their service. I went to their office and finalize the details. Dean showed me the different options for countertops (they have tons) and very patient with me since I had hard time choosing the perfect one. After that, we sorted out the payment options and the process began. It took a while for the project to finish (about 5weeks) but it didn't disappoint. I had Andrew and Bobby as project managers. Most of the time Bobby was the one who is hands on with the project and Im thankful for him for being responsive with my requests and other details. Whenever I message him he will reply right away. There's some delays with the schedule and delivery but everything has been sorted out. Shout out also to Mauricio for installing all the cabinets perfectly and neatly. I liked it that he always keep the place clean and organized after he finishes his job for the day. I also loved the Lighting upgrade and the guy did a very good job . This is a long overdue review of Guilin Cabinets who remodeled our home several months ago. We were referred to Guilin by Erik McLain, a neighbor here in San Clemente. Erik had a contractor do his remodel who selected Guilin Cabinets for their quality construction, ten year warranty and competitive price. Based on Erik's recommendation , we made an appointment at Guilin's showroom in Irvine. Scheduling with Vivian was easy and next thing we knew Dean was at our house designing our dream kitchen. During that process Dean told us Guilin was not only a cabinet installer but that they could handle our complete remodel which included new floors, kitchen cabinets, quarts countertops, new appliances and custom island, arched door and entry ways, baseboards and door casings, new cabinets with floating shelves in our living room, a new fireplace with mantel, new staircase, laundry room countertop and master bath including new vanity, freestanding tub and custom designed shower. Execution of the work was just a flawless as Dean's design for the kitchen. Andrew and Craig were our project managers assisted by Bobby and Chris with Amador, Fidel, Hu, James, Edgar, Diego, Ozzy, Jeremy, Mauricio and Glen as the skilled tradesmen doing the work. The best part of the process for us was the Guilin team's ability to take inspo pics we found on the internet and bring them to life. I would strongly advise caution when dealing with this company. They convinced me that the product was 100% Thermofoil, but what I received is nothing more than cheap wood with a thin layer of Thermofoil taped around the cabinets. This is the same product you can find at stores like Lowe's or Home Depot at a fraction of the price. I was charged an excessive amount for a product that doesn't live up to the claims, and I feel misled. You can find identical products elsewhere at a much more reasonable cost. Started with high hopes but they didn't last very long. Was initially encouraged with the apparent quality of their cabinets and their strong warranty, but the shine wore off quickly. There were many issues with working with Guilin but I will touch only on the highlights. First, they presented a highly front-loaded payment schedule that was in violation of the California Contractors State License Board Business and Professions Code. I was however able to replace it with a more appropriate payment schedule for the signed contract. Then, on the day of the measurement visit, they notified me of a change in warranty terms, even though the contract was already signed at that point. I reluctantly agreed to this one, but later they tried to make another change to the warranty terms, which I told them I would not agree to. Meanwhile it took three revisions of the plan drawings to accurately reflect the detailed design that I had provided to them at the very start. I had to spend considerable time reviewing the drawings and correcting their errors and omissions. After the third revision I asked for a small design change. At that point they falsely attributed all the drawing revisions to going back and forth on design changes I had requested. When I proved to them that they were due to their own errors and not to any design changes, they accepted no responsibility whatsoever for the revisions, and just responded that I wasn't very happy with their work and wanted to cancel the contract, which I gladly allowed them to do. There were many other issues that I haven't gotten into here. For example, once the drawings were finally accurate, I asked for their designer to tell me how much backsplash tile I needed. They responded that the designer doesn't provide tile measurements, only cabinet measurements. So, if you are thinking of having anything to do with Guilin, my warnings are: * Watch out for their inappropriate payment schedule * Watch out for changes to contract terms after the contract has been signed * You will have to spend a lot of time checking their design drawings for errors, because catching errors later down the road would be extremely painful. * You will need infinite patience communicating with their sales personnel. I suggest paying attention to previous reviewers' comments about this, they are unfortunately true. I actually had to request a change in point-of-contact midway through the design phase due to the frustrating nature of their communication. * Lastly, do not expect a professionally run organization and do not expect any degree of customer service - customer satisfaction is definitely nowhere near the top of their priority list. read more

As the son of a GC and someone who has purchased, designed and installed kitchens--and price conscientious to boot--I'll say that paying someone else to do my kitchen was not a decision I arrived at easily or quickly. That said, I knew I wanted better than the cheap (and very affordable) Chinese RTA kitchen cabinets I normally dealt with. Enter Guilin. Local to LA, showroom that isn't in a dirty/dusty warehouse, and quick communication? Good start. My favorite thing about this experience was the communication. I hit a couple snags during the process (because I'm OCD and also one of those too-involved type clients), but Guilin was quick to respond and fix things. I mean, on a holiday weekend I had one of the top guys at the company pay us a visit to check out the issue we were having. He evaluated the problem and offered a good solution with a short turnaround. Marven, our installer was great. Patient, friendly, and communicative. In construction it's always difficult to get a rapport going because guys are just trying to rush through their work and get to the next job, but not only were questions answered, but creative solutions were offered that went beyond what is typical of a kitchen install. As for follow through and warranty--we just noticed a small piece of damage on one of the cabinets (we just moved in finally), and they are offering to replace the item and install it without question. I know I know--they should do that anyway right??? But let's be real, this isn't often the case. Kitchen remodels.... why do they evoke such emotion? Theres a lot of fear at the cost, and expectations of what the end result is going to look like. Will it meet expectations? Will the contractor deliver? We felt the same. We looked and looked for a good cabinetmaker. I'm a yelper, so did the research. We had a few misses with those that promised, but failed; too expensive or just couldn't respond in a timely manner. Then we found Guilin. Wow. Not only did they have great quality, which was evident in their showroom, but their responsiveness beat everyone else. We found them competitive on price and importantly, as we were on a tight timeline, they assured us a quick install timeframe. We signed with them, refined the plans some more and waited to see what would happen. To say they exceeded our expectations is an understatement. We got a call from them while we were traveling in Europe to say they were running early and could have someone out to install the cabinets a week earlier than planned! Wow! I send out an SOS message on a Saturday morning. Less than an hour later, I get a call. Awesome, they are attentive. Next I hear from Jack aka my hero arranging to come by that Monday. He brings info, and we chat. I'm impressed that he's on time, friendly, and he patiently/thoroughly answers my endless questions. I explain we've been without a working kitchen for 9 months. No problem, he says, we can figure out something to get you back in business quickly. I'll be honest - I was dubious. I waited for the other shoe to drop - the price. I mean, they can do the work fairly quickly, the cabinets look to be great quality, sales folks are nice... Must mean it's out of my price range, right? Nope. The price is super reasonable! Where are the hidden costs? Hubby and I ask another million questions. All the nice things that seem to be extra with other cabinet places are included. Wait, what?! Also, Jack explains how they all text and communicate with you throughout the process. We love how it sounds, but we've been down that road before. We're dubious. But guess what? They DO! Next we're introduced to Jeff aka my other hero, who managed the process for us. Got a question? Nervous about things? We text... and BAM. We get an answer. Evenings. Mornings. Weekends. We did a full kitchen and primary bath demolition and remodel, as well as new cabinets and counters in 3 other bathrooms. The product quality is excellent, and we compared many other cabinet sources. We worked with Jack and Carina for the design and their talent and perspective provided great insight and guidance. Because of the size of the project, the installation was major and not without the typical and expected delays, corrections, etc. I mention this because we've done other design and construction projects, and fixes and changes along the way are normal.
