Due to a series of happy circumstances I was finally able to get an appointment with Doctor Hayes after trying for six years, and I must say it was worth the wait. She exudes a warmth that immediately puts one at ease and this attitude carries over to her staff. From the receptionist to the dental assistants they all make every effort to make the visit a positive experience. My wife suffers from "dental anxiety" and dreads any work, to the point she's neglected necessary procedures. The doctor recognized her fear and prescribed anti anxiety medication for her next visit to help alleviate her fears. She even offered nitrous oxide if needed. An indication of doctor Hayes willingness to go a step beyond was when my wife mentioned she was having an issue with "dry eyes" during her visit and she was provided artificial tears. It was a small issue but it was indicative the care offered at this office. read more

For a few reasons I will not go into here I had been without a dentist. Like a normal person I'd been procrastinating doing the research of finding a new dentist that had good reviews, took my insurance, seemed friendly, etc. Well the procrastination came to bite me in the butt with the world being in the middle of this COVID-19 crisis and nobody hardly being open, much less taking new patients. A twenty year old crown broke off my tooth, oh great. Despite the timing of all this Dr. Hayes was very gracious to get me in for an emergency repair and get me signed up as a regular patient. I was very pleased as she was my first pick of dentists to check out. She was running a lean staff due to the crisis but had me in and fixed up in a jiffy. The office itself has a very comfortable feel to it. Modern equipment but with friendly decor, not the doctor office vibe. Dr. Hayes herself is very friendly and knowledgeable. So nice I almost look forward to coming back for my regular appointment. read more

Called on a Sunday late morning with a true dental emergency. Broken tooth. I'm new to the area and she had good reviews. The voicemail at her office, gives her cell number for dental emergencies. She never called back. Didn't even have her staff call on Monday morning. Crickets. Good thing I had called Dr Healy here in town, and he called me back promptly despite being out of town. His staff also called me first thing Monday morning, and got me in first thing. I'm sure she's a great dentist and person. But I'm glad I found someone who has good follow up. read more

I have tried calling every day this week....3 times and left messages each time. I explained I was a new patient and didn't need an appointment for several months. In my last message yesterday, I even said I gathered they didn't need or want new patients since my phone calls had not been returned. Today, I decided to stop by. I asked if their phone system was working. I was astounded when the front desk person told me she returns calls on Friday when there are no patients!! WHAT?! I asked her how I was supposed to know that?! The voicemail says nothing of the kind...just to leave a message and call will be returned as soon as possible. While I've heard good things about Dr. Hayes, the office procedures left much to be desired and are a direct reflection on the practice itself. In addition, no medical practice has magazines displayed in waiting areas during current Covid pandemic. This one does. And while signs are posted requiring masks, the front desk person pulled her mask away from her nose and mouth while speaking to me. So, if I were to call on a Monday, I wouldn't expect to get a call back until Friday?! She barely said, "I'm sorry." I left saying I didn't think she was. UPDATE: My husband called the same day I stopped by which was on a Thursday. As I mentioned in original review, I was told that calls are returned on Friday. This place is amazing. I live in SLO and have been traveling down to LA to get dental work the last couple of months. I don't have dental insurance and my old dentist charges 40% less than dentists in SLO. I recently went down to LA to get fillings done. Two weeks after getting the fillings done, I was still in pain. My dentist told me my bite probably needed to be adjusted. This is something all dentists do for free after putting in fillings. However, because I was back in SLO and couldn't manage going down to LA anytime soon, I was frantically trying to find someone who could do the 5-minute adjustment who wouldn't charge me a ton of money. Enter Shauna Hayes and Krystin, her Extended Functions Registered Dental Assistant. After calling dentists all over the county and getting quotes ranging from $89 to $489, I finally found Shauna Hayes' office. Shauna OKed her Assistant Krystin to do the bite adjustment on a day when patient's don't normally come in. Krystin was very kind and competent and saved the day. She did it for FREE. I can't believe the generosity of this place but I'm incredibly grateful. It's nice to know there are dentist's out there who aren't trying to squeeze every penny they can out of you. Tried to get in with Shauna D Hayes because she accepted my insurance. Office staff said call back next month because we aren't making appointments further out then we have them. Well I tried this run around 3 times for 3+ months and it dawned on me that they were not going to make any effort to get me and my family into their office. The 3rd time she was quite snippy said sorry and practically hung up on me! If your office is not accepting new patients that's fine but be up front about it, don't string people along and don't be rude in the process. I'm so glad now that I couldn't get in because in the future I would not like to be treated this way. I feel that your office is very pretentious, uppity, snotty, and unclear. read more

Dr. Hayes and everyone in her office are friendly, extremely competent, efficient, and professional. From cleanings (thanks, Jill) to crowns (thanks Joe) to fillings I'm always impressed. They even have doggie tooth brushes, free coffee, a great play list, and ear plugs for those of us who can't tolerate the sound of drilling! And there are no surprises, since they are always willing to check our dental insurance and provide an estimate. I especially appreciate their patience and skill with seniors (even my picky, hard-of-hearing spouse). They get an A+ from both of us. read more

Such an amazing dentist! Dr. Hayes and her staff are always so gentle, thorough, and accommodating. I'm always impressed by their professionalism and kindness. My children (ages 6 and 8) have been going there for several years now and have always had such positive experience there. They love the treasure chest of goodies after a check up. Such a nice touch! I switched Dentists this past year after researching the area options. Dr. Hayes had excellent reviews and a practice focused on Family Dentistry that I appreciated. One office cannot supply all of your needs - occasionally a person might need a root canal for example - and then Dr. Hayes will direct the patient to the best specialist for supplemental care. The Dental Hygienists are excellent, the lab that prepares crowns is top notch, Jessica at the front desk is top notch and every assistant that I have met has been awesome. I am contunially impressed by how kind, patient and thorough Dr. Hayes and her staff are. They work with our insurance and budget. This is the first dentist that does regular screening for mouth cancer. During my husbands check up and cleaning they found a lump on his neck that can now be followed up by a GP. I have been looking for a dentist that my three year old boy could see. I thought about going to a pediatric dentist but wanted someone he would stay with long term. This is the best dentist office I have been to in my 60+ years... I have severe "dentist" phobias, and always have to premedicate just to walk in the door of a dentist office. Since January of this year up until today I have seen Dr Hayes multiple times for a tooth extraction, several fillings, and over a dozen crowns. They have been amazing, compassionate, gentle, thorough and totally wonderful. Every single person in all those visits has been willing to go over and above to make me feel comfortable and cared for.
