If you haven't been to the Bavarian Bakery in Dover you are in for a treat! They have a large selection of cakes, pastries and cookies, not to mention danish and muffins. A variety of breads and a daily " specialty" bread. Want something more hardy in the morning and they can make you a breakfast sandwich. For lunch, right now they have 2 soups every day to chose from and they change daily. Then we have the awesome sandwiches made with Boar's Head deli meats and cheeses. My husband loves their selection of large fresh salads. I have been going there since they opened and have never been disappointed. Their staff is always friendly and helpful. They're located across from Rodney Village and have plenty of parking. They have a very nice selection of pastries. The deli selections are nice with a generous portion of meats. It didn't seem like there were that many uniquely german items though. The staff is friendly and eager to help. If you don't see a favorite item they usually double check in the back to make certain that they are out. They have an awards program called the Bavarian Club. At time of writing it takes 100 points to earn a reward. I normally get between 9-14 points per purchase. Normally a couple of sandwiches and 2 pastries. 90+ points since early November. I do wish there was a single checkout. Many times if you get pastries you pay on the far right register/ipad. Then if you get a deli selection you have to pay again at the deli counter. There is hand sanitizer for use after signing the ipad for checkout. Guten Appetit! read more

The cupcake was alright. The cream filled pastries were decent. Nothing that blew my mind anyway. Nice and clean place. Sandwiches looked good and fairly prices combos. I come from a long line of German bakers. In fact, I am the first generation not to continue the tradition. So, I know how tough this business is. It is a lifestyle that is all consuming and in this modern world, not many people have the passion and drive to do what it takes to operate a good one-especially one that bakes not only desserts but bread as well. Since I know the issues involved, I tend to be quite forgiving and understanding. When we bought bread here that turned out to be so stale it was inedible, I contacted the owner before writing a review. Her response was so strange and without any ownership ("you must have gone to a different bakery") that I decided to post a review to let others know to be careful. The selection of incredible baked goods is impressive. Flaky pastries, creamy fruity Danish, fluffy mousse treats that are beautifully displayed in a clean glass show case. I am not giving it 5 stars because there is no joy there. The owner is dour and intimidating. She doesn't seem to understand the childlike wonder that should be part of visiting a bakery. I hope she pays her staff well because I would not want to work there. Ordered a cake and gave them a little bit over 1 week to have it done. The day before It I was expected to be done, I came in to check on it and it was not even started because the people put the order in the wrong spot so good thing I came in to check on it. The day I came to pick it up the picture on it looks just like a piece of paper was layer down on top of the cake, but wait there is more wrong with it. The picture was a completely different picture i emailed them as well as the saying I told them was completely wrong. Ausgezeichnet! Monika does a wonderful job of bringing a part of German backerei to Dover. A true gem in this area! I needed a birthday cake and opted to visit Monika and was NOT disappointed. We got a chocolate decadence cake and it was so delicious and moist. Everyone at the table raved! Each weekday features a different bread and I've tried the sourdough and Friday Challah. Both were phenomenal and you taste the difference of a fresh loaf versus store bought. The cakes and pastries are delicious and well worth the price. They open early so you can swing by before work and get the freshest items! I only wish she had a better coffee selection but it makes sense she would focus on baking and not being a barista. As we didn't eat lunch here we definitely got dessert here. we ordered their cheese filled danishes, chocolate twist, sugar cookies, oatmeal raisin cookies, a piece of carrot cake, German chocolate cake, and a zucchini walnut bread. OMG, the sugar cookies is the best I have had. Its so soft it melts in your mouth. I had to stop myself at one. My husband ate the oatmeal raisin cookie and raves about it. The cakes were good. We especially loved the eclairs (which were super--filled) and the lobster tails. We ordered a Two tier cake for our wedding reception and it did not disappoint! Not only was it beautiful, it was also delicious- with each tier consisting of multiple layers of cake and icing! The buttercream icing has a great taste and isn't overly sweet- it's perfect.
