My husband and I travel down to Rehoboth every year for our wedding anniversary and had to check this place out - specifically for their butter cakes that we had heard so much about. We picked up two sandwiches for lunch for the first time ....along with a cannoli. If you are in Rehoboth ...DO NOT PASS THIS PLACE UP. Everything was very tasty , fresh and perfectly prepared. Never had a better cannoli. The butter cake is also unbelievable. Never recall having a cake like that but it was so delicious. We will definitely make this a lunch must every time we come to the beach. All carry out but they do have some off street outdoor seating. Family operated business. It was so lovely to chat with Louie and his wife to learn that the baked goods are all made on premise by the family. Unless you have a large appetite, I recommend one sandwich to share for two so that you can leave LOTS of room for desserts. First, the sandwiches. We'll stuffed with quality deli meats cut thin, on a delicious ciabatta roll. Every sandwich we ordered was absolutely delicious. Now for desserts. I didn't get pictures of everything but I think the cannoli is the BEST I have ever had. The cannoli shell was fresh and crunchy and the filling was not too sweet. We also had the eclairs and a cherry turnover, also excellent. Sorry I'm bad with remembering names... Louie's wife (Robin?) wanted us to try the butter cakes and threw in 2 for no charge into our order. I later learned from someone else in my party that she also threw in a couple drinks for no charge. I can off season (mid-April) - a perfect time so it's not too hectic. We were able to order when we walked up. Based on the other reviews I can imagine how busy it must get in peak season, so we'll be sure to take the tips to call in a day ahead for orders during the summer. Searching for an Italian Sub in Rehoboth and this spot came up. Decided to walk up around 11:45 on a Friday to place my order. The kind gentleman let me know that they are currently at a 1:15 pickup time. I was surprised but also intrigued (and he presented it in such a positive manner I was fine with it). They are that busy/popular that you should place your order a bit in advance. Ok, I had a few things to do so I said "I'll be back." Ordered the C&C Special (#2) and Sal's Italian (#3). Nice contrast between the two given the Special has fresh Mozz and the Italian has super sharp provolone. Bread was that perfect Italian with the soft interior and just right (not too crunchy) exterior. Both were excellent and hard to choose the best one. I called to let them know I was running a little late due to traffic and the lady I spoke to was as nice as can be. She thought I used some choice words to describe the traffic and we had a good laugh about that. Pick up was quick and my subs were ready when I arrived. Another positive, I remember offering to pay when I ordered given the amount of time to pick up but they said you can pay when you pick up (which usually doesn't happen with most places.) I saw they have homemade pies, pastries and cookies available. I shared this was my first time trying the spot and got a really positive response (again they know how to engage their customers.) Also, got a complimentary piece of Butter Cake which was amazing! Pick up only for now and also noticed they have outside seating. I can not sing their praises enough! Ever since I've discovered butter cakes, Frank and Louie's has been my goto for delicious baked goods whenever we're in town. Last weekend while in the Holiday spirit, I was craving pie! Saw that F&L was open for 15 more minutes, booked to the ordering window and saw Robin's smiling face to greet me. She remembered me by name which warmed my heart because she must meet thousands of customers a year! I asked about pie and all that was left was a lemon pie (which I love but hubby does not) so instead she offered me a Raspberry tart. Raspberry is typically not my first choice but I trusted and she did not steer me wrong!! OMG I intended on rationing it out for 2 servings and failed miserably. It was perfectly buttery, with the right balance of sweet vs tart and I determined I could eat it everyday! Hubby got one bite and that was it, I wasn't sharing. Because she's so sweet, Robin even threw in some wonderful Pizzelles because "they didn't have the pie I wanted" but no apologies needed. It use to be a store where u walked in, placed an order for a sandwich, and walked out the door. Today they make food for Amtrak, entrees for the PINES next door, and they supply food for other restaurants around town. If they do 10 things sandwiches is number 10. Robin the owner is rude and offensive! Good subs if you're willing to wait three hours or the next day. Look at google reviews, she berates anyone who doesn't 'love' their business! The brothers are decent guys but she is a liability to their store PLUS three hours for a sandwich you have to order on-line, have cash, and jump thru hoops to get is absurd. Frank and Louie's, hand down, has the best subs in Rehoboth! If you want a genuine Italian sub, on good crusty bread, (none of that spongey stuff most places have) this is it. They have several choices, including vegetarian. My husband can eat a whole one, but I can only eat a half, and save the rest for another meal. You need to know their 'system'. Call ahead and it will be ready for you. If they don't answer, don't keep calling back. Once is enough. They will call you back using caller ID. So, you call in early in the day (at least an hour ahead, and preferably more). Do not walk up and expect to get served. The subs are so good they are continually making subs to fill orders. They are slammed. And there's a reason...literally the finest subs, made with true Italian ingredients. As far as ambiance, there is none. Pretty sure they may have a few tables outside, but I've only seen people grab and go. You do not actually enter the store. It's a walk up window. Don't forget their desserts. On my recent train trip I discovered a crazy tasty dessert treat. One of the choices for lunch and dinner on Amtrak is a butter cake thar are rediculously awesome. I had one at every meal and managed to bring a couple home with me, seriously delish! I'm not sure how a local Deleware bakery landed the Amtrak contract but I'm glad they did. What more is there to say about Frank & Louie's besides EPIC? I'm from NY & my family is super Italian, so Italian hero's are taken very seriously & there are a plethora of solid Italian delis to get consistently good hero's from in NY. Here in Delaware, not so much. So when I was introduced to F&L's, to be honest, I was shocked at how legit they were. Their cold cuts are top notch, imported and sliced thin (as they always should be), and their mozz, to their sweet peppers, are literal perfection. Cant say enough good things about these guys, they're so kind, so authentic & simply the best. I have been here previously a few times but all precovid. I called during Covid and was told they had a wait list in August so people call in orders days in advance. I was denied a sandwich on the day I desired it. We now go off season and I called at 10 and they called me back in 20 min. I ordered 2 Sammy's and was told they would be ready in 30. Mine was simple and perfect w ham and very sharp provolone w roasted red peppers. Only big eaters should order a whole sandwich. I love this place!! Nice people to boot!!! We came here two years ago and fell in love with these sandwiches. My partner reports dreaming about them since we first had them! They have changed their protocol since the pandemic began; it is only walk-up and order-ahead now. Much better to order ahead by phone, with about an hour's notice. What was confusing was that we didn't know we were supposed to order ahead, so drove past and saw a sign saying that walk-ups were allowed. We couldn't find parking so I called and asked whether it was faster/better for them if we walked up versus ordering over the phone. The woman who answered the phone told us they didn't allow walk-ups. The whole exchange was very confusing and abrupt. In any case, we got our sandwiches and brought them to the beach. For me, it started in December of 2022 - I had recently moved to the area and was searching for some Italian cookies for my Christmas holiday. I stumbled upon Frank and Louie's and have been hooked!! I expanded my purchases to the sandwiches - which are delicious and huge. And most recently in August of 2024, I ordered some food trays for a party. I served meat/cheese trays, shrimp trays and a cookie tray. It was all delicious - prepared ready to go!!! All I had to do was remove the wrapping and place on the table - it looked beautiful. All rave reviews from the guests - with many asking for the name of the caterer. I love the organization at the the time of ordering and the pick up goes smoothly at your assigned time. I have family with a condo in Rehoboth that I have been visiting since I was a kid, so you can imagine my shock and disappointment when I found out there was an authentic Italian deli mere blocks away from where I often stayed. I am a tad obsessed with fresh mozzarella so I was beyond excited to try this place -- and they did not disappoint. I would recommend calling a day ahead to order, or at least a few hours bc this place is popular! The first time I had food from here I ordered the day before to pick up for my trip back home. We got two sandwiches, a pound of motz, and a dozen gf peanut butter cookies for my gluten free dad who is obsessed with peanut butter. The sandwiches were outstanding. I am a purest and love caprese in any form, but the combo of flavors in the C&C special was truly Devine. The hot peppers were the perfect amount of hot and I wanted to have them for every sandwich I'd consume from here on forward. The sandwiches were also massive, certainly worth every penny. The motz was great as well, I will definitely get some every time I'm back. The cookie were chocolate dipped and addicting, they barely lasted 24 hours in my house. My family was going to the beach the next week and I urged them to try some of the family sized entrees from this place. They ended up getting some eggplant parm, chicken parm, sausage peppers and onions, and baked ziti, as well as a wide assortment of their gluten free cookies. I unfortunately wasn't there but I became quite popular that night as everyone LOVED the food. When my mom called for the order, she mentioned my dad couldn't have gluten and they were quick to recommend the sausage, peppers, and onions, which my dad said they were the best he's ever had (not a small compliment). They also threw together a box of gluten free cookies for him, which luckily made it home, and I can ensure that every different flavor was beyond delicious. When my mom went to pick up the order she noticed their chocolate eclairs (her favorite), and after expressing her excitement they insisted on throwing them into the order for free. She made sure she paid for them, but says it was so delicious.
