Great vibes. Great food. Can't believe I haven't been here before. The service was amazing and we felt like we were eating in someone's backyard! Loveeeeeee the cheeseburger

I cannot say enough nice things about the staff at Star Rover. From the time we walked in, the staff were incredibly kind. They knew who we were, they know we were on our honeymoon and just completely won us over. They were able to make a mocktail for me and made sure to ask about allergies My husband tried the 76er challenge. He didn't finish it but he put a good dent in it! They boxed it up and he was able to take it home to finish it. They sat us right in the middle of the floor and in front of the stage. They had live music and it was a great soundtrack to dinner. If you come to Nashville, you HAVE to go to Star Rover!!

I'm in town for a few days, and my best friend--who recently moved here--insisted, "Maram, I have to take you to this awesome place." And awesome it was, indeed. I haven't been truly impressed by a place in a long, long time. From the intimate ambiance to the thoughtful details and attentive service--it was an experience. Apparently, there was a live band scheduled, but since we didn't have reservations, we had to leave a bit early. The menu? Simple and to the point. No overwhelming list of options--just pick your steak, tell them how you want it cooked, and they take care of the rest. Perfect. We started with two rolls of warm, super-yummy bread--honestly, more like amazing. Next came a generously sized salad for each of us. And wow--what was that?! Fresh lettuce, a few rings of onion, crisp cucumbers, the most amazing croutons, and a creamy blue cheese dressing that wasn't overpowering--just right. Topped with crispy bacon bits... it felt like it was made with love. I practically inhaled it. Then came the steak--served on a bed of melted brown butter. What??? It was perfect. Melt-in-your-mouth perfection. Alongside came a basket of crispy wedge fries and golden onion rings. Folks, this place is no joke. And then--dessert. I ordered a single scoop of ice cream, expecting the usual. Instead, it came in a drinking glass, layered with saltine crackers, a hint of salt, and who knows what else--but it was hands down the best ice cream I've had in a long time. Maybe I'm exaggerating... but you really need to go try it for yourself to understand what I mean! To the team: amazing job. Thank you! I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town.

We went here for valentines day and it was a blast! We were seated in front where the stage is, although we didnt stay long enough to watch them. Order your drink and cut you want and the rest they'll bring to you. As someone who wants a little bit of everything, I loved this style of dining. We both got the ribeye which came with one of the most delicious salads you could imagine, rolls, fries, and onion rings. Onion rings arent always my favorite but it was fun to try them. And the rolls.. if you know you know. I was way too full to get the brown butter saltine soft serve, but ill be returning just for it.

Visited the Star Rover to attempt their 76er steak challenge. After some easy communication with the management to get a time set up, we arrived to an empty house (it was right when they opened) at 6:00 on a Thursday. They let us pick our table to be most comfortable got to waiting, only about 20 minutes for my giant meal as well as my wife's. She got the 6 our sirloin and thought it was an amazing steak. She also really loved the salad, but could hardly touch her fries and onions because of the sheer size of her meal. Mine was also amazing, for being a novelty steak or roast maybe, it tasted really good and was cooked to a near perfect medium rare. I was able to complete the challenge in about 35 minutes, winning my meal for free and a tshirt which actually wear. The staff was amazing and supportive, continually checking on us and comments how impressed they were with how i was going on the steak. Loved the support. All in all was a great dinner and would definitely get a regular steak there again if we make it back to Nashville.

Oh man if I could eat here every time I went out I would. But of course good things are sometimes limited and Star Rover is only open Friday-Sunday. Star Rover is serving up perfectly cooked, well seasoned steak on their limited menu. You pick your cut and then get rolls, salad and onion rings included. All of which are so tasty! Also got a slice of apple pie for dessert. We went on a night where they had live music for an hour, the band was great! We will totally be back!

Left to right... Top to bottom... Fried and Onion Rings, Bread Roll, 10oz Ribeye (medium rare).

This is a "real-time" review. That's right, I'm writing this while I'm eating! First off... I am a self proclaimed steak snob. I've had the privilege of eating steaks at Gallagher's in New York, Don Shula's in Florida, Wolfgang's in Hawaii, Cattlemen's in California, Maestro's in Las Vegas, Joe's in Washington DC, And I cook a pretty mean New York if I do say so myself. I LOVE a good steak! I had heard great things about Star Rover based on some videos about their 72 oz (4.5 lb) challenge. Since I'm in Nashville, I owed myself a good steak dinner. I quickly made reservations through OpenTable. Easy -peasy lemon squeezy! I arrived a few minutes late. My own fault. I was quickly seated and received the menu. This is a steak house through and through. They serve steak and that's all (they do have a chicken dish for the cow lovers but that's it). After a few minutes, I placed my order. My waitress, Paige was very pleasant and got me started with an Old Fashioned from the bar. I ordered a 10 oz ribeye. This came with salad, bread, fries, and onion rings. The old fashioned arrived first. Well made. Nice orange peel. On point. Missing the cherry. The bread arrived second. Nice bun with a salt and butter encrusted top. Kind of tasted like sea salt. Not too heavy, but could have been lighter on the salt. Soon the salad arrived. A little unusual. Rough cut iceberg lettuce, cucumber, blue cheese crumbles, smoked bacon, red onion, and some strange, fairly bland dressing. No options for dressing substitution. I would have preferred blue cheese dressing and a few cherry tomatoes to perk everything up. Soon the main event arrived. Paige encouraged me to cut into the steak to make certain it's cooked the way I like it. Nice! They take pride in their product! The steak was perfectly cooked - medium rare (because anything beyond is uncivilized) and seasoned perfectly. But alas, the first two bites literally took me 5 minutes to chew. It was as if I was chewing a thirty year old tire with retreads! No bueno! The steak came with fries and onion rings. The fries were overly cooked and kind of burned. I just pushed them aside. The onion rings were the star of the show. So far, we're in 2 star Yelp! review territory! Then oh how the stars aligned... Paige returned, filled my water, brought me a second Old Fashioned (this time it had the Luxardo cocktail Cherry - Proper!). She asked how I was enjoying my steak... Moment of truth... I explained the problem. Paige sent the manager (I did not get their name) over. They quickly arrived and took things to task. They promptly switched me up to a filet mignon. Shortly thereafter, another employee approached me. Their name is Alison. They brought me a second round of fries and onion rings. MUCH BETTER! And I didn't even mention the fries from earlier! Soon the fillet arrived. I took one bite and we did not strike gold... no, we found platinum! Delicious! I gave a big thumbs up to Alison who was waiting with baited breath. Another gentleman, Casey from New York came by to refill my water. He looks like a biker without the leather, wore skinny jeans, biker boots, and has an epic beard that would make any self respecting Viking proud! Great guy! Everyone was very attentive. Paige and I talked baseball. Alison and I talked about steak houses around the nation. I ordered the apple pie (of course I did) for dessert. It's not like grandma used to make, but it's passable and has good flavor. So a near two star review became four stars in the twinkling of an eye! Why not five stars you ask? There's always room for improvement. Like others have said, they are a little heavy handed on the salt. The minute differences in bar drinks (I know it's only a cherry but it's the little things that matter sometimes). And the obvious quality control in the kitchen makes me wonder. Could have just been a one-off. It's forgivable. But the shining star is their customer service and pride in the end result. They even comped me the pie for the faux pas - totally unnecessary but appreciated. So if I could give them a 4.99999 stars, I would. They also have live music at 9pm, but I'll be long gone by then. I'll definitely come back and tell my (non vegan) friends who are visiting Nashville all about Star Rover!

Love this restaurant! All the sides are included with the price. The steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned very well. Oh and the onion rings were the best I've ever had. Seriously they were amazing! Not one ounce of grease and the batter was amazing! Cooked to a perfect golden brown. The fries were great as well. Great value for the money and excellent service! Loved the atmosphere Highly recommend this restaurant away from the strip in German Town.

Food was really good and fair for the price. Atmosphere was good for a casual steak and prices were really fair. You can get out for around 100$ with two people especially without alcohol. Service was solid. Our waiter was good but seemed busy with other tables. Will go back again.

This place has ruined other restaurants for me! Coming from out of town, I had heard about Star Rover and immediately made a reservation. I feel like it is rare that a place lives up to the hype but this 100% did! The food was amazing, service was incredible (and personable) and it was just such a unique concept! I wish I could come here every day. I will definitely be back!!! & don't forget to try the rolls....

An excellent place to see live music without the crowd and scene of Broadway with good (inexpensive!) food but some kinks to still work out with service and food/menu. I'm a huge fan of Ford Fry's restaurants. The Optimist Atlanta is one of my favorite restaurants ever and I am a frequent visitor to his other Nashville spots. I've been wildly anticipating Star Rover Sound, a somewhat more casual spot focused on live music (one of my favorite things) and some of my most favorite foods, all on the same menu (tacos! crispy fries! CEVICHE! queso!) I came with two friends and we grabbed a couple of cocktails at Le Loup before heading down to the show at Star Rover right at 8, when the band starts. Even though it was pretty full, we only had to wait 5 or so min to snag the last free table. Service was really fast and we ordered a mix of tacos, margaritas, and some fries and chips and queso to share. The queso was perfection. Very lightly spicy, fresh, salty, thin chips. A+ My friend's favorite were the fries - crinkle cut, with the most perfect ranchero on the side. The tacos feel like a work in progress to me. We all got chicken tacos and all found them so spicy we couldn't actually eat them. I also wish the menu had clarified the chicken was fried, because that wasn't the vibe I was looking for and I would have gotten something else. My friends liked their chorizo and potato taco but also found the beef taco spicier than expected (though at least eatable). Service was...a bit odd. Our server came super often but didn't get us basic stuff like cutlery or napkins or water. I was confused if he was trying to rush us out or something, which felt odd because we wanted to kind of leisurely enjoy the music (and there is a $10 cover for the music.) At the end of our meal, it was nice that he split the apps but the rest of our checks were completely wrong and had the wrong items attributed to the wrong person. A weird service experience overall. The incredible live music, chips, queso, and fries redeemed this experience for me. I'll definitely be back and hope some of the weird things we experienced are just kinks still being worked out.

This place is exactly what Germantown needed. Live music with an old school, classic and cool honky tonk vibe. The service is quick and friendly, and the food and drinks are reasonably priced and delicious. It's elevated tex mex fare, but because they're connected to the optimist (same owners I think) they also have some super fresh seafood like a tuna tostada. Also tried the Paloma and frozen marg, which I think were $9 each - hard to beat in Germantown especially with live music to watch! Overall, highly recommend for a fun night out and delicous food with friends!

We started off with a round of champagne and a bottle of red wine for dinner. We tried a variety of dishes since we were told that the set up is family style: Hamachi Crudo: 10/10 one of the best I've ever had! Super fresh and the sauce paired well with it. Bluefin Tune Crudo: 8/10 It was really fresh and well prepared, but I've had better elsewhere. I typically prefer bluefin tuna sashimi or nigiri anyway. Tuna Crispy Rice: 9/10 This was such a fun and delicious way to eat spicy tuna! All of the seasonings made it packed full of flavor. Tomahawk Ribeye 9/10: This was insanely tender, and well seasoned. Tip: ask for lemon wedges to sprinkle some lemon juice on it--thank me later. Broccolini 8/10: well prepared, and I loved the lemongrass garlic chili that topped it East Side Shrimp 7/10: These were well cooked and well seasoned. Loved the salad placed underneath it. Wagyu Tartare 8/10: It was well prepared and loved that it's paired with nori and rice. Wished it had a bit more punch to it in terms of seasoning. Crab Fried Rice 8/10: this was delicious but still say it's a solid 8. Beautifully prepared! Korean Hot Wings 2.5/10: I could tell that it was well cooked, but it was insanely salty; it was practically inedible. Hurricane Fries 9/10: These were so delicious! You are immediately hit with the smell of truffle, which made my mouth water. Packed with flavor! Brussels 7/10: These were well roasted, but the sauce was a tad too sweet for my liking. I highly recommend trying this place out!

By the bar we got to see some of the dishes being made. Great date night spot. Limited parking. This is a tapas spot and our serve did a good job recommending how many dishes to get. The only reason Noko is not getting 5 stars is because the server said that they would time out the dishes for us, so it was best to place our entire order all at once. However, we got 3 dishes and then it took about 30 minutes for other two to come out. Maybe we were eating too fast but felt like we were waiting a while for our food. The food itself was absolutely delicious. There was nothing we ordered that I did not like. Some favorites include the burnt ends lettuce wraps and Korean chicken wings. The Sando, shrimp and tuna crispy rice was also spectacular. The tuna was so flavorful and refreshing on the tuna crispy rice. The sauce of the east side shrimp really makes the dish. I'm not a huge shrimp person but this was really good. This is a must go to spot in Nashville and would definitely want to come back.

It's my last night in Nashville so I want to go to a bang zoom restaurant. A few of my co workers have said to me: Mr Bill, we see every night you're going out to some amazing spots. Mind if we tag along? Sure, the rules are to keep your fork outta my plate when we sit down. Deal? The restaurant is very large, we're shown to our table. Set in the middle of the dining room and facing the bar. The bar can seat at least 25 people, the restaurant is set up for fun. To get our party started, I ordered a well crafted cocktail: Tea'd Up Old Fashioned Made with Bourbon, Black Tea and House Barrel Aged Bitters. Funky?? Oh yeah I'm with a bunch of Military Veterans and they're telling me their crazy stories. I'm sippin' my Old Fashioned and taking it all in, we need to bond over drinks and crazy things we all drank overseas. As an adult, I can appreciate my Nashville TN Old Fashioned with Black Tea. While we're talking, our waitress drops off a plate of homemade biscuits. The biscuits are fire! Buttery, flakey and moist, The Southern Steak & Oyster can make a damn good biscuit. Next, my Gumbo comes to me. The first taste I can tell this is a chef'd up dish. Better than anything I had in New Orleans. This gumbo is filled with Andouille, Crawfish, Shrimp and Fried Okra. Very flavorful indeed. My last entree in Nashville will be Fish 'N Grits. Fresh fish topped with Spicy Tasso Ham over Sweet Potato Grits and Bacon Braised Cabbage. This is a flavorful dish, the grits are very creamy and the cook on the fish was spot on. We had a great night at The Southern Steak & Oyster, it was a pleasure to dine at your restaurant.

On one visit with only a few of us there our bartender disappeared for a good 20 minutes. Upon his return he was focused on everything but the 5 of us in the place until we finally had to ask to get service. The other visit everyone helped me but the actual server. Maybe this is a staffing problem, I don't know but being stuck for 20 minutes to order another drink with my meal is not acceptable. Although they had that check in my hand in under a minute and in under another minute to process. Again, super nicer people, but kind of oblivious. 2) Now let's talk about the kitchen. And I'm adding some input from the other diners because we all sat there waiting. - flavors are great, but the salt and spice level is overboard. I had the mushroom appetizer and nearly choked/coughed to death. I like heat but this was raw spice that overpowered the dish. And the salt about made my feet swell into balloons. Such a shame because the idea is great just poor execution - deviled eggs. Pass - BBQ Shrimp, sort of like the mushrooms right profile but overpowering - gumbo. Two other people had the gumbo and when I asked they said that too is just over spiced I want to like this place, but probably my last visit unless I just come for oysters. Sorry

Coming in by myself on a weeknight, while in town for business, I sat at the bar and the staff at the bar took great care of me. The piano man on top of the bar was playing great music. The venue is nicely, eclectically decorated too! I started with a Kettle One up with a Twist and it was great... Some of their shrimp cocktail to go with it was a great pairing! The shrimp was huge and prepared perfectly! The cocktail sauce was very nice, but I like extra horseradish, which they happily provided. Next up was their Prime Skirt Steak and the sides I chose was their creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked to a perfect temperature and the chimichurri was so very tasty with it! The mashed potatoes were nice. The creamed spinach looked beautiful and the texture was spot-on, but it had slightly too much nutmeg in it - Still, I enjoyed it. I wanted to save room for dessert though because I was yearning for their Butter Pie, which I ordered eventually. The butter pie definitely didn't disappoint! I enjoyed my experience and will continue to seek out and enjoy Jeff Ruby joints when I travel!

Extremely Disappointing Father's Day Experience -- Overpriced, Loud, and Far From "Upscale"…read moreI chose Jeff Ruby's Nashville for Father's Day because I wanted a memorable upscale dinner with my dad. Unfortunately, what should have been a special evening turned into one of the most disappointing steakhouse experiences I've had in years. Our bill for four people was approximately $614, and not a single aspect of the evening justified that price point. First, the noise level was absolutely unbearable. We were seated near the bar area where a pianist was playing so loudly that my father and I could barely have a conversation during dinner. We were literally forced to shout across the table just to hear one another. Even our server struggled to communicate with us and had to move from one side of the table to the other because half the table couldn't hear her speaking. I immediately requested to move tables after being seated and was told they could not accommodate us. Later, I spoke with a manager who simply said he would "make a note for future reservations." No attempt was made to improve the current experience, relocate us, or even lower the music volume. For a restaurant branding itself as luxury dining, the lack of concern was shocking. The atmosphere also failed to match the upscale image Jeff Ruby's promotes. The advertised dress code clearly wasn't being enforced. Several guests in the bar area were dressed extremely casually, which completely took away from the elevated dining environment the restaurant claims to offer. The food itself was mediocre at best. For a supposed high-end steakhouse, the menu selection was surprisingly limited and poorly described. I was honestly stunned there wasn't even a classic French onion soup on the menu. The only soup option contained seafood, which limits many diners due to allergies or preference. Specific disappointments included: Caesar salad was bland and underdressed Wedge salad was average with nothing memorable in flavor or presentation Wagyu meatball had an overpowering smoky flavor not disclosed in the menu description Baked potato on the menu comes with no explanation of toppings or accompaniments Cheesecake texture was whipped and airy rather than rich and dense like a proper steakhouse cheesecake Most importantly, the food quality simply did not match the inflated pricing. I've dined at many nationally recognized steakhouses across the country (Berns in Tampa, Peter Lugar NYC, Keens NYC, Gallahers NYC....and Jeff Ruby's Nashville does not come anywhere close to delivering the quality, refinement, or execution expected at this price level. Honestly, the experience and the meal reminded me more of a casual chain restaurant (Texas Roadhouse) than a premium steakhouse. The décor felt confused and overly theatrical rather than elegant. I understand the attempt at a 1920s-inspired vibe, but details like feathers sitting on chandeliers felt cheap instead of sophisticated. The whole experience to include dinning was too theatrical and felt like it's a cheap experience since the food doesnt live up to the price or quality of a fine steakhouse. What upset me most is that this dinner was supposed to celebrate Father's Day with my dad -- someone I don't get to spend much time with because we live far apart. Instead of enjoying meaningful conversation and a memorable evening together, we spent most of dinner sitting in near silence because the environment was so loud and chaotic. At over $615 for four people, guests should expect and receive exceptional food, attentive management, proper atmosphere control, and an experience that actually feels upscale. Unfortunately, Jeff Ruby's Nashville failed in every one of those categories. The manager offered no attempt at resolving the issues above as I complained about them while we were sitting at the table still. I absolutely cannot recommend this restaurant based on our experience.

Add live jazz drifting through it and you have a night out that feels nothing like the usual Nashville scene. The service was the highlight. Our server Ian took great care of us from start to finish, warm, attentive, and knowledgeable without ever making us feel rushed. The whole team was dialed in, but Ian made us feel like regulars on our very first visit. The food more than kept up. My pork chop was enormous and cooked beautifully, and my wife's empanadas and salad were just as good. The cocktails were fine, not quite the star of the show, but with food and atmosphere this good I did not mind one bit.

Nashville is a music town, throw a rock and you'll find a great spot at a bar playing music. Some of the bars have a stage where bands are jammin'! I'm looking for something different, something more contemporary, live jazz and a speakeasy feel. Skull's Rainbow Room delivered. Walking up to Printer's Alley, it's already giving off speakeasy vibes. I did my classic move, Get to the restaurant early and tell the waitress I'm so hungry and promise I won't be here all night. Man... I was set up with a great table and was told I have less than two hours. (I mean, I am Bill S from New York, I can be quite persuasive) My waiter comes over, we start talking about the east coast, how he misses New Jersey but loves his new home in Nashville. I order a martini and thick Prime Rib cut along with a side of truffle mashed potatoes. My drink comes out quickly and now I am in the jazz zone. These guys rocked it! Great music along with strong cocktails, I laugh and say to myself: I'm getting paid to be here! My steak comes to the table very quickly. Man this steak cut is a thing of beauty. The au jus with a bite of the truffle mashed potato, heaven. Now the piano player start playing The Love Theme from The Godfather?? Am I in heaven or.. are they trying to seduce me to the other side as I order another cocktail? Just a fantastic night, from the music to the food and libations at Skull's Rainbow Room. My waiter says, it's been two hours, would you like your drink brought to the bar? I declined as I paid my check. Skull's Rainbow Room is a must stop when in Nashville. You can check out any time you want.. but you can never leave!

We had a larger (10) group celebrating two birthdays and the staff handled things without breaking a sweat. We arrived a few minutes late for our reservation but it was no bother as our table was still being prepared. On that note: highly recommend a reservation, this is a popular place! Once we were seated we had the pleasure of Nichelle, a wonderful waitress. She was on top of everything we needed or wanted and we had very little wait time for her return. Great service! And the food... DELICIOUS! As you can imagine, our group of ten had a good selection across the menu and there was not a single person who was disappointed. Everyone loved their amazing food. What tops everything off is the atmosphere here. It's popular so, as you can imagine, it's a bit noisy. However, I like to call it "lively". And they really nailed the physical design, so inviting and upscale. I'll stop there and simply say: check this place out, it's great!

She even went out of her way to get me a drink that had fallen off the menu a few weeks prior, a delightful cucumber spritz. The ambiance is awesome. As others have said, music isn't too loud, just pleasant in the background, so it would be ideal for having a conversation. The space is open, bright, light-filled, and stylish. Parking is in a private lot behind the restaurant and they validate parking for up to two and a half hours. I wish I could rave the same way about the food. While the cocktails were refreshing and they had a cocktail for every palate, my steak and eggs was bland. It came out a little closer to rare than medium, but I can live with that. But I am not sure I detected a speck of salt or pepper. The steak was at least tender and the sunny side up eggs were cooked appropriately. The potatoes were dry. And I did have the wagyu meatball appetizer. It's a large portion, so easily shared amongst two or three people. Cheesy and saucy with a little spice. The focaccia could've been toasted a little more. I considered the short rib hash, but my server told me it could be salty and hit or miss (I appreciate her honesty and she 100 percent should be praised for it). I came during brunch (even on a weekday). They also serve French toast, desserts, oysters, burrata, potstickers and tuna tartare, salads, burgers and other sandwiches. If you come for lunch or dinner, you can also get grilled salmon, blackened redfish, shrimp and grits, pastas (cajun chicken, pappardelle bolognese, tortellini) as well as various cuts of steak. It's conveniently located right across from the Frist Museum and is part of the Union Station Hotel. I would try this place again for dinner, but would skip the brunch. And again, Savanna was top tier! She deserves all the flowers!
