We hired Bay Area BBQ Islands to design and build an outdoor kitchen. Within the first year, the porcelain countertop developed multiple cracks radiating from the appliance cutouts. I reported the issue in November, and they inspected it in January. Since then, despite multiple follow-ups and a formal written request for resolution, I have not received any response or proposed solution. I also had a local engineer inspect the installation. He did not identify any structural issues with the support. The countertop material is marketed for outdoor use, so this appears to be a product or installation failure. I was hoping to resolve this directly, but the lack of communication has been disappointing. I'm still open to working with them to fix the issue. read more

My husband worked with Marissa and she walked him through options for our new outdoor kitchen (grill, sink, fridge, and storage). Unfortunately, the bad is the post-sale experience. They are great at the beginning when they're trying to get your business. Wayne was knowledgeable, and everything seemed fine until the contract was signed and the deposit was paid. The owner, Marissa, is also knowledgeable but not trustworthy. We were charged $750 just to change the installation date. We were told payment was required to order materials and appliances, yet our entire project was delayed because she never ordered the appliances despite being paid. It became clear that her main focus was turning the job into a bigger project to make more money. The work itself was average -- not terrible, but definitely not great. Even some of her own employees didn't have positive things to say about her. Also, once they have your $, they are not very responsive! The team was professional and communicative throughout -- they listened carefully to what I wanted and made sure everything fit perfectly with my deck. Installation went smoothly and on schedule, which I appreciated since I work form home and didn't want disruptions. The finished setup feels really solid and thoughtfully designed -- all the little details were nailed, like easy-to-clean surfaces and smart storage spots. Wayne diagnosed how my Bull Outlaw BBQ needed fixing over the phone, and after my hour drive, Wayne fixed the BBQ while chatting over various set ups and options for future projects. We started this process a few months ago and gave them a deposit so we can get a quote and layout of how our future outdoor kitchen will look. They suggested that we get a Memphis grill but we bought a Traeger instead. After a week or so, we followed up on getting a layout of our outdoor kitchen and they told us it was going to take a few weeks just to get a quote/layout. We weren't expecting it to be that long. We complained about it and they said it was going to "take a few days". They asked us about our budget. We have a loan for $30K, but we weren't sure if we were planning to spend that amount. We shared that information and later they told us our outdoor kitchen will cost $27,000! (This was after they told us they couldn't accommodate the size of our traeger in the location we picked out). It was just an outdoor kitchen to lay our traeger on and a refrigerator. If we told them our budget was $50K, they'd come back with $47K. We asked for an updated quote and they pretty much ignored us. We asked for our deposit back and they said it was non-refundable. If you can't accommodate the outdoor kitchen we requested, give us our money back!!!! I'm telling everyone I know about the terrible customer service they provided us, Communication was garbage, and DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! read more

Last December I wanted to stop in their downtown Livermore store the week after Christmas snd didn't realize they were closed ( over the holidays) When I called the store , Wayne met us at the store within 15 minutes and spent 1 1/2 hours talking to me about the bbqs , the islands, their process of building them in their shop etc. I never felt pressure to buy. IMO you are taking your chances if you deal with Bay Area BBQ Islands. We were told when we initially purchased a BBQ island during the first week of June that it would take at least until late July to receive our unit. Late July came along and when we had no word on the unit we attempted to reach out to our sales rep, Wayne for an update. Wayne told us about the supplier delays due to COVID-19 and said he would reach out to them to get a better idea of when the parts would come in to finish our unit. Wayne didn't call us back the first time and then with a follow up call he again did not call us back after making the same commitment to call the supplier. Obviously frustrated I called them again and spoke to the owner, Marisa about our frustration with not hearing back from Wayne after his commitments to call us back. Marisa had plenty of excuses ready for Wayne's lack of communication (he's really busy apparently.) From there she apologized and said she would get back to us after making some changes to our order. We were told we could expect an update and potentially delivery of our unit about a week later. Of course this has not happened and Marisa has made no attempt to reach out to us with an update. It has been over 2 months and still no BBQ island for us even after placing a significant deposit upon purchase. read more

My brother recently moved from the Temecula, CA area to Salinas, CA. Before moving he requested assistance from Carddine BBQ and Spas in Temecula to change his Bull BBQ from Natural Gas to Propane. Carddine advised him that they were unable Roget the parts necessary to help him. BUT... Then he called Bay Area BBQ, which is an approximate 2 hour drive away from where he lives. The representatives of Bay Area BBQ helped from the start. Being new to the area he was a bit apprehensive but after talking to the gentleman over the phone, my brother got in his truck and traveled from Salinas to Livermore and upon arrival he was treated like the most important customer. He cannot speak more highly of a company than he's spoken of this place. He is not on Yelp but asked that I write a review for him about this store. I too am grateful for their help in making his long transitional move easier by making this one more thing needed to be done to make his new house feel like home. Good products, snobby racists. I recently purchased some Bull items from them, which was an average experience. A few weeks later I called their office, told them I had recently purchased some of their products, and asked if I could get some replacement parts for my Fire Magic grill. I was told they only sell high end items. I asked if they knew where I could buy parts for that brand, and the guy on the other end of the phone told me "on any corner from Jose". I was pretty taken back someone would say something of that sort. If I didn't just spend a ton of money for a contractor to install the Bull products I purchased, I would return them. We were told by several companies that they would deliver the BBQ but we would have to figure out how to support the new grill in the existing opening. Wayne came out to our home to measure the opening and said he would fabricate a support frame to hold which ever new BBQ we selected. Wayne was also helpful in selecting the right BBQ for our needs. They came and picked it up re-did the base, replaced our old Bull Grill and refrigerator and replaced the counter grout with upgraded material. My wife and I were referred to Bay Area BBQ Island by some friends who were happy overall with their project but warned us that communication was difficult. I should have taken that warning to heart and done more research but after meeting with Wayne at both their shop and store I felt pretty good about things. My mistake, we like others that I read here have been trying for months to get updates on our project from Wayne or Marisa with the only responses from Wayne being excuses and assurances that he would look into things. "I will check with Marisa and get back to you....I will check with the fabricator and get back to you.....' Supply chain issues are real and that I can understand, what I can't understand is a basic lack of communication and professionalism. They have a a significant deposit and yet they can't be bothered with communicating in a timely or meaningful way. Something is very wrong. read more

Visited their showroom 60+ days ago with detailed pictures of our design layout and specific measurements and still can't get an estimate from them, even though they state 7-10 days to get an estimate. For those that want to see more details of the lack of engagement, read on: Visited the showroom in Livermore on Friday, April 21st. Started with Celine, who I'd talked to on the phone to see how late they were open...and by the way, Celine was very helpful on the phone. When we visited the showroom, we got to the point where I was asking detailed questions and Celine went and got Marisa, the owner, from the back room to come talk to us. Marisa spent quite a bit of time with us and we left them with all of our exact measurements, as well I emailed them (from my phone while standing in the showroom) multiple pictures of our space with detailed measurements and painter's tape outlining the design we wanted. Before we left the showroom on that first visit, we also picked out all of the drawers, cabinet doors, trash chute, etc. that we wanted and the plan was they would get back to us with a price for our custom plan that included 2 islands, a high-end natural gas BBQ, a gas pizza oven and a ceramic smoker. I should also mention that when we visited the showroom back in April, Marisa did a great job of touting the Bull brand that she carries, but also talked pretty poorly about the FireMagic brand that we had as our front runner brand at that time. Marisa made some statements about the some items on the FireMagic grills that simply were not accurate and when I pointed that out to her, she replied that they must have changed some items, because that's how they were in the past....even though we were talking about 2016 models and the 2017 models were already out, so her product knowledge seemed to be a few model years behind the current market. IMO, if you're going to bash another competitor, you should have your facts correct.....that said, Marisa was very nice, so we were willing to move past this misinformation, as we weren't even 100% sure we would go with FireMagic yet....so Bull was a consideration at that point. Four days later, on the following Tuesday late afternoon, I emailed Marisa and Celine reminding them I was still waiting for a quote....and Celine responded the next afternoon stating that Marisa should have told me they were running 7-10 business days to provide quotes during this busy time for them. I thanked Celine for recalibrating my expectations and waited to hear something within the next week, as it had already been 3 days. I got an email from Celine on the afternoon of May 3rd stating she was working on my island right then and wanted to know what size smoker we were looking at. I responded on May 4th with a web link to the smoker we wanted to use, along with exact measurements. I emailed Celine again on the morning of May 13th, asking for a status update for our quote, as it had now been over 3 weeks since we visited the showroom. I didn't get a response from Celine for 5 days, on May 18th, stating that they are extremely busy at this time of the month, and asking if I was able to stop by showroom to review the drawing....stating that the drawing needed to be approved so that Marisa could then work on the quote. Seriously??? I emailed back letting Celine know that I wasn't trying to be difficult, but expressed my frustration that we'd lost an entire month now and still don't have a quote...and now I'm hearing that I need to drive to Livermore again to approve a drawing so that Marisa can get STARTED on our quote? I said I shouldn't have to drive back out there, that if I needed to see their drawings, to please just scan and email them to me. Celine responded on May 25th apologizing that it was taking them so long, explaining that Marisa is the only one who deals with quotes and that they would try their best to get something out to us soon. That last email from Celine was 26 days ago and I've still heard nothing from anyone.... So here we sit on June 20th....a full 60 days since visiting their showroom with pictures and specific measurements of our desired layout, and a detailed list of the drawers, cabinet doors, trash chute, etc. that we wanted...and 60 days later we still don't have a quote, even though they claim they do quotes within 7-10 days. I might also add that Marisa, the owner, has been copied on just about every email exchange that I've had with Celine....and Marisa has never once chimed in to apologize, or even acknowledge that there is a breakdown somewhere on their end. Honestly, I'm at a complete loss how this place is in business with this poor a level of customer service, especially when trying to earn a new client's business. Can only imagine what the level of customer service deteriorates to after they've already got your money and there is a warranty issue. read more

Very disappointing as we were very interested in having an island built. We even called the company she represents--Bull BBQ--to see if they could help.
