"You should get your upper wisdom teeth extracted ASAP," my orthodontist told me, sending chills through my entire body. I have heard my orthodontist tell countless other patients that they would need to get their wisdom teeth extracted. I should mention that my orthodontist is also my employer. Even though I have worked for my orthodontist for some time now, the idea of myself having to get my wisdom teeth extracted never occurred to me. My fellow coworkers (bless their souls), assure me that my extraction will be quick, painless, and simple. All this provides no aid whatsoever to my quickly rising anxiety. My doctor recommended that I contact the office of Dr. Nima Massoomi, a name that we are very familiar with as many patients have been sent to his office. I decided to take the opportunity to go in in-person to make my appointment. When I entered the office, a woman at the front greeted me and asked how she could help me. Stepping in the office I could feel my heart racing but the world around me was going in slow motion. "I need an appointment for a wisdom teeth extract." I quivered. She smiled and said, "Let me get some information from you." I answered her questions noticing my heart echoing between every syllable. After the questions, she stopped and began to look for a time. The time she spent looking felt like minutes, hours, DAYS even! But in actuality was like 15 seconds. After making my appointment clearly shaking, the lady assured me that I would be alright and that she was in the exact same predicament that I was right before her extraction. Leaving the office now, knowing I have been given an appointment, I can't back out now... Then quarantine struck and my appointment was postponed. The few months that my appointment was pushed back, went by too quick. Stores and offices were allowed to reopen and my appointment became 2 weeks away. Everyday felt like it was leading to my imminent doom. Day by day my appointment crept closer exponentially. I took to social media and youtube to hear stories. Her warm and bubbly personality really lightens my heavy weighing gloom. The day has arrived. Scheduled for 4 pm, I clocked out of work and made my way to Dr. Massoomi's office. My sister, already there waiting to be my personal uber. I shakingly called the front desk to alert them of my arrival. I was beckon in my Maxine. She checked my temperature before allowing me to enter the building. Annie was also there ready to escort me to the operation room. Chief Louise asked me some simple questions and gave me some documents. In my nervous haze, I was already seated in a very comfortable chair. A blanket appeared for me brought in by Bethany, another sweet assistant. Annie gently placed oxygen tubes near my nose and explained to me that this is how they make sure I have oxygen. Dr. Massoomi walked into the room fully geared up with a facemask and shield. My only thought at that moment was, "man, that must get really hot in there. He looks like an astronaut." He explained to me yet again that with the injection, there will be lots of good things to help with anti-swelling, anti-inflammation, and promotes a speedy recovery. At that very moment, sweet Annie held my head and said "good night" before I knew it, I was up. No pain, no nausea. I remember saying "I'm ready" and Annie saying, "you're all done!" It really did feel like a blink. I could feel the gauze in my mouth and a slight bitter taste, but again NO PAIN! Annie led me into a room where we did a quick X-Ray and then back to the same operation room to rest for a bit. I remember sitting there and seeing my new x-ray with all the wisdom teeth taken out and NO PAIN. Felt nothing. I even felt well enough to walk down the hall and out, though Annie still helped me out with my sister's guidance to her car. My recovery was quick and with instructions typed up and written by Dr. Massoomi himself, it was easy to follow and understand. Simply put, Dr. Massoomi is the best. (Here is my experience) I originally went in for a cleaning with my primary dentist and did NOT know my wisdom teeth were impacted especially because Ive never never had any pain. My dentist immediately provided me Dr. Massomis information, so I scheduled a consultation about a week later. His team was very helpful, professional, & informative- 1. Explaining - I was not very familiar with the wisdom teeth procedure, Dr. Massomi and his team were very detailed when explaining the cost, & surgery -before and after process. He actually sits down with you and cares about any concerns or questions you may have. 2. The surgery - The whole procedure was very smooth with- I was out down w/ anesthesia. Surgery was on Feb 7th @11:50am & finished around 2pm. I had no pain that day after until the 3rd day, Dr. provided a detailed list with a break down for all the medication for the swelling, pain & antibiotics and how often they need to be taken which was very helpful. 3. Follow up - Today was my follow up appointment Feb 20th and everything went great. I started work today- I'm back on my regular schedule with a few exceptions with the eating part. I recently visited Dr. Massoomi's office for the first time after being referred to him by my general dentist. 10 min into being in that office - ummm can you be my general too?! I've never had such a pleasant experience at a doctors office. I am a very skittish person when it comes to someone poking around in my mouth. Just the thought of it gives me anxiety and I get the shakes and sweats before I even make it into the examination chair (which can be embarrassing being a grown woman - watching kids have more courage! I had received some bad news ... I needed all 4 wisdom teeth extracted and 2 of them were going to be 'complicated' which in my mind just means 'extremely painful'. From the start of my sweats Dr. Massoomi and his team made me feel so much better. They inserted an IV and thats the last thing I remember before waking up with the procedure finished! I am looking for a dental surgeon for my 11 year old son's wisdom teeth removal. Dr. Massoomi is not the one our orthodontist referred, but based on his high level of reviews, we decided to choose him. It turned out to be our best decision. Fantastic and painless experience to what I imagined would be nightmare. Growing up, I never enjoyed receiving any sort of dental work due to my oversensitive gag reflexes, which is why I avoided the removal my wisdom teeth until my new dentist advised me to do so ASAP. She recommended I see Dr. Nima Massoomi for the operation and after going through his surgical operation, I understand why he was recommended. The process started with my first visit being a consultation (X-ray, assessment, and planning for the operation). My operation day occurred on the following week and was smooth and painless. Upon arrival, him and his team of friendly experts walk you through the set up and help you relax. After hooking me up to an IV, I looked at the clock and felt the effects of the anesthesia within ~15 seconds, drifting off into a peaceful sleep. Upon waking up from what felt like a 10 minute nap, I checked the clock again and saw that ~80 minutes had passed. All four of my wisdom teeth were extracted in that amount of time and not a single bit of pain was felt for the duration. They then had me take another X-ray and from there, I was sent home with an instruction list to ensure a smooth recovery. Following his post-operational procedures, swelling and pain was minimal and infections were avoided. My follow up appointment confirmed I was on my way to a steady recovery. I went to this guy for my wisdom tooth surgery and it was great. The nurses that prep you are super nice, and so are the women that work at the counter. They have wifi too- you just have to ask. The people that work at the front desk sometimes just talk about the weirdest things quite loudly, and most would find it awkward, but it's easy to over look. Any who! Yes, I got all four of my wisdom teeth taken out and the whole after-care process went absolutely fine. I didn't have to use syringes or any other tools. I just had to religiously take my medications and BAM I was dandy again. I also like them because they don't just give you vicodin and antibacterial medications. During the free consultation, they ask about painkillers that you usually take and personal habits and how well medication works on you so in the end they may not have to give you that strong crap that just KOs you for the day. I also got this headband thing that held icepacks (he gives you those too) against my cheeks. WIN! Doctor Nima himself was super duper nice (: The operation was painless, save for the damn IV needle... god I hate needles. But seriously, after that you can't feel a thing - it's great! Today is 5 August 2011, exactly one year after my sliding osteotomy genioplasty to correct a lifelong small and significantly receding chin. My surgery was performed by Dr. Nima Massoomi, DMD, MD, of Silicon Valley Surgical Arts and Cupertino's preeminent maxillofacial surgeon, at El Camino Surgical Center in Mountain View. Under general anesthesia, the surgery was accomplished in two hours through a lateral internal oral incision at the root of the lower lip. The surgery cut a horseshoe-shaped section of bone from my receded chin and advanced and anchored it forward 8 millimeters, creating an excellent new chin profile. I iced the chin for 48 hours for swelling and experienced some pain and discomfort, dulled by Oxycodone, but I required very little pain medication. I was on a soft diet for one week. Nine days after my surgery, I felt perfectly well, removed the surgical bandage, attended my nephew's birthday party, and enjoyed a barbecued hamburger. Except for some residual swelling around the incision that slightly affected my speech, my chin appeared perfectly beautiful in its first public appearance. One year later, I have fully recovered all sensation around my lower lip and chin and have only a slight sensation of tightness around the chin, doubtless because of some internal scar tissue, but I would never go to back to my ugly, old receding chin, and I could not be more pleased. Now, I am not afraid to be photographed in profile. The sliding osteotomy genioplasty is the tried and tested traditional method of correcting a receding chin and produces a permanent, strong, and durable jawbone that is far superior to the implant method which can cause internal tearing of tissues, bone resorption, and infection. Also, the internal oral incision is far superior to the scarring of the external incision under the chin. Just be extra careful not to injure your jaw while it is healing. Remember that cosmetic surgery is rarely covered by medical insurance. Be prepared to spend several thousand dollars for the surgical services, plus $2,000 for the surgical center, and another $1,500 for the anesthesiologist. Dr. Massoomi's extensive training and experience, excellent planning and preparation, and extraordinary skill raise surgery to a high art, producing a truly remarkable work of cosmetic artistry and a perfect overall result. He is such a pleasant happy doctor for a patient who is bit nervous about the surgery. He listens the patients concerns and answers sincerely with all the information. Until my anesthesia worked, he explained every bits of his movement that what is happening and what will happen. I completely did not feel anything when he extracted my wisdom teeth. Not even the pressure he put to dug out my teeth. One of the teeth was complicated wisdom tooth and he had to cut my gum, dug and stitched. Again, I did not feel anything. Only the wish I had was... I hope I didn't have to take so many medicine at right hours (even really early in the morning! You have to wake up and take it!) after the surgery. But I also understand that those medicine helped me suffering from the serious pain. Yes, today was my first day without any medicine and I felt little dull pain which I could handle without pain killer. I am usually pretty good at taking care of my teeth. I had three of my wisdom teeth extracted, except for the lower right one, for which I was previously advised by a different maxillofacial surgeon to leave in unless it causes further complication due to its proximity to nerve, difficulty to extract, and high-risk complications that may require hospital stays and 1-month recovery time. Secretly wished that this last wisdom tooth would never cause any problems and I would never have to deal with the potential permanent nerve damage. A few years went by and everything seemed to be fine...however... I recently switched to a new dentist and during my last check-up, it was obvious that this last wisdom tooth decided to separate my gum from the 2nd molar, creating a trap for food debris and bacteria. He was caring and provided a thorough analysis on what needed to be done to minimize any complications there may be. I scheduled to have the extraction done a few days after the consultation. The whole operation went really well. The staff was really caring, the tooth was taken out successfully, and I could still feel my chin (no neve damage! yay!)! I had minimal pain and swelling post-operation people could hardly tell I had a complicated wisdom tooth extraction. What could you ask for more? Dr. Massoomi was easy to reach after-hours, and he followed-up on weekends to see how I was doing. After hearing all the horror stories from friends n family, I was so apprehensive to extract all of my 4 wisdom teeth at one go, at the age of 37. But today I am glad I did! It's just been the 4th day from the day of my surgery and all I'd like to say is I can just swear by the surgeon - Dr. Nima Massoomi!! Thanks to him, I am now one HAPPY soul, smiling....... with 4 less teeth!!! :) Dr, Massoomi did a MIRACULOUS JOB with this surgery of mine! During my initial visit to discuss the procedure, Dr. Massoomi patiently and clearly explained every step and logic of the entire surgical process to me & my husband. On the day of surgery, I was put on sedation and was completely knocked out within a minute or two. I did not even realize the surgery was over till the time the doctor's assistant patted me on my shoulder and said "Alright! You are done!". And I, with my startled eyes half open, was like "Really??????"... "Are you sure?" Dr. Massoomi and his excellent Staff took very good care of me, before, during, and post surgery. Along with the home-care kit, I was also given a soft headband that held the 2 ice packs against my cheeks. If I remember her name correctly, his assistant Vu - held me by my arms and escorted me to the parking lot, made me seat in the car, buckled my seat belts and waited till my husband & I drove off. I have NO pain (I repeat, NO PAIN!) in those 4 areas, right from the very 1st day of surgery. The only pain is in the 2 small areas in the inner cheek where I presume the L.A. was administered, after I was knocked out by the I V. The swelling is minimal as I probably had held on to the ice packs for my dear life since the moment I had stepped out of Dr. Massoomi's office 4 days back. I have had medication every 3 hrs,as advised by him and rinsed my mouth with Chlorhexidine Oral Rinse every time I have taken food / drink. Dr. Massoomi gave excellent care to my young son before, during, and after dental surgery to remove several extra teeth. We were very impressed with his attention to detail and surgical skill. We were also extremely appreciative of his exceptional bedside manner, which in my experience is a rarity with surgeons. He took the time to explain things to all of us fully, and was very available to answer our questions via phone in the days after the surgery (gave me his cell phone number, which was the first time I've ever had a Dr. do that). He really helped our son, and made the process as stress-free as possible. Awesome Service!!! Dr. Nima pulled 3 of my wisdom teeth and i cant thank him enough for doing such a great job. I feel that he was able to explain the things i needed to hear before surgury and its good to know that you will be alright. And for him to call me afterwards makes him the best out there.
