I should receive ~$20 back because the patient's estimated payment amount, that I paid at the dental office right after my consultation, was higher than the amount I actually owed according to Cigna's EOB. I did not receive the refund, so I called the office. The office told me that they had sent the refund to me by check. Since I did not receive the check, I asked that the check be reissued. They refused, saying that in order to do so, they would need to cancel the existing check, which would incur a $30 fee from the bank, so I would end up owing them money. I pointed out if no action is taken, then my refund stays in their checking account, which does not seem like the correct outcome. They indicated that they might refund the money when the existing check expires (when the bank will no longer honor the existing check). I called their bank, who told me that after 180 days, it would no longer honor the check. I sent an email to the office, ask them to confirm that I will receive my refund after 180 days. After a week, there was still no response... I asked Cigna, my insurer for help. The Cigna representative called the office with me on a 3-way call. The office reiterated their position as described above. However, after several days, I received a call in which they told me they would re-issue the check without waiting for 180 days. read more

I had 3 of my wisdom teeth extracted in one sitting by Dr Fan. None of the 3 teeth had erupted and I think the lowers are impacted ones so it was not a trivial task. The procedure was incredibly well done. Bleeding stopped soon when I got home. Usually there would be a hole on the extraction site but I only had a dent, no hole whatsoever. And for the upper wisdom teeth I can't even find or feel the incision at all. Very, very impressive technical by Dr Fan. read more

This office is solely focused on making money and shows no concern for their patients. 1. The office staff is cold, rude, and impatient when it comes to answering your questions. 2. They are both rude and lazy, directly billing everything to you instead of going through the insurance first, even though we are in-network! 3. During our first visit, we were charged $862 for a consultation. The front desk informed us that the insurance wouldn't cover it because it was considered a consultation. However, other places we visited later only charged a maximum of $200, and they processed it through the insurance company since we have dual insurance. As a result, we didn't have to pay anything out of pocket. 4. Other oral surgeons we consulted regarding the accidental loss of our two front teeth recommended getting a root canal first instead of an immediate implant. However, we were forced to undergo an implant surgery right away after only two visits. The initial treatment cost over $10,000 (excluding the implant teeth, which may cost an additional $10,000 and more). 5. During the second appointment, we were asked to immediately pay a $3550 deposit for the third appointment, scheduled three weeks in advance. They claimed it was just a deposit, and whether we needed surgery depended on whether the two teeth dropped after removing the wire and glue. 6. Prior to the third appointment, we had some questions and called the office. However, the staff insisted that we come in earlier that day to speak with the doctor. 7. When we arrived early for the third appointment, we were asked to pay the remaining several thousand upfront and were informed that full-body anesthesia was the first step. We requested to have it done later after removing the wire and glue, in case implant surgery was not necessary. However, they insisted that this appointment was specifically for a surgery and that full-body anesthesia was mandatory from the beginning, which also including the removal of the wire. this practice seemed ridiculous, as other dental offices didn't have such a requirement. 8. We felt so bad and cancelled this so-called surgery, they charged us $250 cancellation fee and 4% of the deposit. That's ridiculous! 9. The office was solely money driven by greed. They said one thing but did another. 10. Don't' Go! Never go there! This a warning to all! read more

I am a huge Fan of Dr. Wen Fan. A referral from my orthodontist, Dr. Swanson plus his stellar Yelp reviews led me to his San Jose office. The staff is super friendly and my visits were all handled expeditiously. I had put off getting my two left side wisdom teeth removed for 30+ years, just generally out of laziness and not wanting to be bothered with the procedure. Since I am not getting any younger I finally decided to pull the trigger. Dr. Fan's staff did full x-rays and he concurred that is definitely made send to removed my non-impacted wisdom teeth. I opted for nitrous(laughing gas) vs. to be put out completely. The entire procedure was less than 30 minutes with the actual extraction probably only 10 minutes. Dr. Fan was constantly checking on my pain level (none for me) and guided me through the process the entire way. Pulling wisdom teeth and 50 years old is no easy task as the roots are essentially part of the bone of your jaw. I had a breeze of a recovery and only took the prescribed motrin for two days. Dr. Fan performed surgery on my upper and lower jaw to fix my underbite and the whole process was extremely well done and professional. Dr. Fan did my surgery and he, along with the rest of the staff, did a excellent job in the months leading towards my surgery explaining how I should prepare for my surgery, in collecting x-rays, coordinating with my orthodontist, and of keeping me well informed about what I should expect from the surgery and the recovery. All of the appointments were quick, simple, and informative. The assistants and staff at their office are excellent and super friendly. Speaking to Dr. Fan it is clear that he is very knowledgeable and experienced when it comes to jaw surgery. Dr. Fan also did a great job of making my mother feel comfortable with the operation. Leading up to the surgery I was nervous to undergo such a large operation, but Dr. Fan's office provided us with tons of information on how to ensure a clean recovery, including a extensive guidebook. The surgery itself happened at O'Connor Hospital, right next to their office. It lasted around 5 hours and the first few days were a but rough, however following the surgery Dr. Fan checked up on me once at the hospital and again at their office after my discharge, assuring me everything went well. Following the surgery you are put on a liquid diet for a month and there is a lot of swelling and numbness. After five days I was told by Dr. Fan I would feel much better and that was completely true, after five days I felt much better, the swelling had begun to go down, and I was able to stop taking painkillers shortly after. Following the surgery I met with Dr. Fan once a week to see if the recovery was going fine. The operation itself went perfectly without any complications. My bite feels so much better than it had with the under bite and I am very happy with my facial aesthetics following the surgery. All in all Dr. Fan and his team do an amazing job and my experience with them was nothing but perfect. read more

This morning I saw Dr. Fan, and he removed a cracked tooth that was beyond saving. My appointment began on time, his assistants was very friendly and considerate. During the consultation I was explained in detail the entire procedure and we discussed future options - Dr. Fan was comprehensive and very fun to talk to. I was operated on very carefully, and Dr. Fan explained what he was doing at all times. The procedure was fast, not at all painful, and everything was very correct and nice. This contrasts sharply with my terrible experience with Dr. Joseph Kim's office (in Mountain View - see my other reviews), who came across as - I'll put it bluntly - very greedy. I had a similar experience with insurance processing as a previous yelp reviewer. I called before going here and was told that I was covered under my insurance. Midway through my appointment, I was told that I needed an x-ray to get a better picture of my mouth. Before getting the x-ray I asked if this was covered under my insurance, and they replied, "it should be". Right before leaving the office I was told that I was not covered under my insurance and the visit would cost me roughly $500. All of that for just diagnosing and an x-ray after being told on the phone that I was covered by my insurance! I was so disgusted that I left, and took my business elsewhere. I can't speak towards Dr. Fan's work, but I cannot recommend anyone to this practice because of my experience. read more

I've just started seeing this office. I feel OK with the choice since it was a referral from my Ortho office, just not sure how this will pan out. ....MORE UPDATES AS APPOINTMENTS COME... When I called to schedule I was told that I needed to pay a deposit to schedule for oral surgery. I told the gal I had done that at my previous visit and that I was told all I needed to do was schedule. She must not have heard me? The gal told me she can't schedule until deposit is taken care of, in which I advised I paid at my last appt....but guess she didn't look into my file? Why ask for my info if you're not going to review it but yet be so quick to ask for payment. So I asked how much is the consultation? Knowing how much the deposit is and knowing what I paid when I was there. She only then confirmed in fact I DID pay only after having to call her out on confirming fees with Mr from last appointment. ( -2 stars) for the lack of confirming pt info before discussing further, please always verify before answering pts questions rather than trying to just bs an answer or at worst, charging the pt again, when payment was already made. During my consultation Dr. Fan went over my xray with me and was very informative, friendly and cheerful. He made sure all my questions and concerns were answered. On the day of my extraction everyone was very welcoming and comforting. While there were several people coming in and out of the room preparing for the procedure, they all introduced themselves and were very nice. As Dr. Fan prepared the IV, he explained how the anesthesia would begin to work and what to expect. This was our first experience with Dr. Fan. Our daughter had to have 7 teeth pulled and we were quite nervous. My daughter was pretty nervous as well. The staff was very friendly and professional which help our anxious state of mind. The procedure was quick. The follow up instructions were simple. Our daughter was back on her feet and back to normal activity within a couple of days. We came to the right office for this surgery. Horrible experience. These words describe well my first visit to the office of Dr Wen S Fan. When you come to the office, be prepared to sign a ton of paper work to the point that I questioned myself if I was in a clinic or in a lawyer office. I came to the office to get a quick treatment for which I was refereed by my dentist. Before coming, my wife checked with the office about the cost. All looks good. The service I was supposed to get was entirely covered by the insurance. My wife spent multiple calls to make sure of this and got an insurance code from the office of Dr Wen. Life is beautiful. I pay nothing! AHAAAA that was speaking too fast. The treatment I came for was NOT performed. I was surrounded with 3 personnel showing me different fuzzy information and I end up signing an estimate for a job of several thousand dollars. My feeling was like they didn't care about the referral, they just saw the opportunity to make money. One of the employee explained to me a strange procedure with the insurance. She told me: "I have a lot of experience, I know how this works. We submit the claim with 2 different codes. One code is medical and the other is dental. We know that if we don't do that it is going to be rejected. We know how deal with the insurance." AH if the insurance don't cover don't worry. YOU PAY ALL! My opinion is that process is fishy. I left the office with the sentiment that I wasted my time and my referral. I was unhappy unsatisfied and I still need to see another doctor. Dr Fan is someone has no doctor ethics and the most unprofessional doctor I had. anyone should be warned about his behavior before you go see him. After extracting my tooth, he asked that I go back to see him in months as the follow up for next step. Then 2 days before the appointment, his office called and asked me if i would go back to see my general dentist who referred me to him, as somehow he heard that I may be switching my general dentist. He insists that I need to go back to my old dentist. When I said I haven't decided, he cancelled my appointment and refuse to see me. If you don't want your major dental work half treated, think twice going to him. On his oral surgery skills, it's really very average. I had extraction before at another dentist, it was a much smoother operation than this. And also, whatever advises he gives, you should take with a grain of salt. He would give you suggestions mostly with hidden motive rather than for the best interest of the patient. read more

What a waste of tme and money. These people only care about money and they could care less if your in pain. I would highly recommend going somewhere else if you are considering implants. F- I has paid out of pocket $288 or so to see this doctor and get a full X-ray panel done. He looked at it and said everything looked fine. I was in horrible pain so I got a second opinion and the second doctor looked at the X-ray and said its obvious a root canal is infected. Long story short, I had the tooth replaced with an implant and all is now well. The paperwork is also absolutely ridiculous which needs to be filled out before the doctor sees you....Thanks for nothing! read more

We chose Dr. Fan based on the fact that his office was in-network with our dental insurance. Of the entire list of local in-network providers, he was the ONLY one that our awesome dentist recommended, and I trust her judgment implicitly. He did not disappoint. A year ago, I had my own wisdom teeth extracted during the middle of COVID, with no issues. We are now taking our daughter for the same procedure without any reservation whatsoever. The front office (especially Angelica) were extremely professional, patient, and friendly when we had questions and minor scheduling issues, as well as technical issues on our end during our pre-op Zoom consult. The office is clean, bright, easy to find/park, punctual, and organized. With our older son, we paid $3000 out of pocket at a different office; this time we are paying $800 after insurance. Will definitely be back when it's time for our next kid to have this procedure. read more

My patient ended up seeing Dr. Cheng. I was referred to Dr. Wen Fan by my general dentist, Dr. Joyce Lam (Campbell, CA - highly recommended) when I needed an urgent extraction done due to infection and pain. Martha (who seemed to be an office manager and handle front desk) gave me a call, answered some questions for me, and scheduled enough time for a consultation, and if I wanted to move forward, surgery. She was REALLY polite and professional. As the first point of contact with this office, she left a great impression! Let me start off by saying.. I was horrified at the thought of anesthesia. Dr. Fan and his staff answered ALL of my questions in depth, and did so happily. I didn't feel like they were annoyed by me what so ever. I am one of those annoying patients that does immense amounts of research before a procedure or appointment. (I am just too curious. Yes, I am looking forward to medical school!) We went into my medical history in detail, which was so assuring to me that they take everything into account. I decided to proceed. We looked over my x-ray together, and discussed the risks associated with my low, impacted wisdom teeth. The risks of nerve damage would be significant, so he told me I should first have a cone beam x-ray done to see how the nerve runs along the teeth. He was confident that removing the infected tooth and wisdom tooth next to it would be okay, so that's what we decided to do. They gave me a blanket and got me comfortable.The ladies who were in the room with me were SO fun to have around. No one seemed to be nervous, rushed, or stressed. I got an IV inserted and some fluids. None of that hurt. Those are the things you notice when you're scared, and there was none of that around me. Nothing but jokes, and calm, friendly voices. They told me I would start being relaxed...and just like that, I was out. Anesthesia is AMAZING. It's unreal. I woke up, and it was over! Seriously, going under was so interesting, I may in fact get my wisdom teeth out one by one for the hell of it :P I was taken home and relaxed the rest of the afternoon. The next 2 days did NOT require pain killers. Wow right? After a few days, soreness kicked in, but wasn't intolerable. I was told by so many people that the worst procedure EVER is having wisdom teeth removed, so I was bracing for the worst. They called me to see how I was doing, and scheduled a follow-up visit for 1 week later. I was nervous because the stitches started coming out about 5 days in. I was worried what Dr. Fan would say during the follow-up. He said it's healing great and looks nice and clean :) If you want to have the best possible experience doing something everyone dreads, GO TO THIS OFFICE. I know I have to go back and get the other teeth removed, and I'm not afraid at all. read more

This is my post year wisdom teeth extraction review. I came here last year to get my wisdom teeth pulled, my general dentist referred me to an oral surgeon who was close by but I chose to drive an hour just to see Dr. Fan. The consultation went very well, he came in and told me his thoughts of extracting my wisdom teeth. He advised me to pull all four instead of just the lower two. He mentioned there was a risk of damaging the nerve in my lower jaw because my wisdom teeth were so impacted. I felt very informed after the consultation and I went ahead and scheduled to do the surgery. At the time I was a dental assistant student and I was very nervous about seeing an oral surgeon after hearing about all of the fun bloody stories at school. Dr. Fan gave me a pill to take before help me stay calm when it was time for the extraction. He was able to put me to sleep and pull all four teeth in about 20 minutes. Dr. Fan gave me some post op instructions and a syringe to clean out the holes of where my teeth used to be. I came back to see dr. Fan in about 1-2 weeks and everything was fine. One year later I can't even tell that I had teeth back there lol. I now work for a dental office in Sunnyvale and whenever we refer patients to Dr. Fan's office I always tell them they're in good hands. I had two wisdom teeth extracted about 10 days ago. They were very close to the nerve and there was/is a strong chance of nerve damage. The risks were thoroughly explained to me when going over the X-ray with Dr Fan but I had little choice but to go through with the procedure. The day of the procedure went as good as can be expected- the staff were very professional and caring and Dr Fan is very diligent and talented. My recovery is more painful than I expected but so far so good- I have called up several times and brought forward my post-op appointment and am extremely satisfied that all measures are being taken to avoid infection and to minimize pain. There was a lot of numbness in the lip afterwards since the nerve was bruised but thankfully not severed and the sensation is gradually returning everyday. I put off this surgery for many many years and I talked to a few oral surgeons in the past but I didn't quite have the confidence to go through with the surgery until I met Dr Fan and his staff. read more

Both the doctors were wonderful! They really took the time to make sure my recovery after my wisdom tooth extraction was painless. I had a bad reaction to the codiene so they put medicated gauze strips to help with the pain and didn't charge extra for the after care service!
