What a great lunch spot off Old Shell Road ... we Started with the deviled eggs and fried pork skins. But the "old Shell plate" was the highlight. I tried Bay Barbecue today. I wanted to order online from their website but unfortunately they don't have the website set up. No problem. I looked on Yelp and called in my order. They are a bbq place so of course I ordered the rib plate. The menu I saw said it came with 2 sides but when I was on the phone the man said the plate came with vinegar based coleslaw. I don't normally do coleslaw but I didn't want to complicate things so I went with it. That completed my order so I headed down to pick it up. I wasn't sure of the atmosphere of this place since it was my first time ordering. I got there and it seemed like a cozy little place to eat. There appeared to be limited parking. There is space in the back and on the side. I parked on the side of the building. When I was approaching the front of the place I saw that one of the windows had been knocked out. There was glass laying below the window. Also, the part of the deck right before you walk in the door was a little unstable. Not sure if this was apart of the ambiance but it didn't deter me. Anyway my order was waiting when I got to the cashier. The ride home smelled delightful. The first thing I did when I got home was try the coleslaw. It didn't look all too appealing but it was coleslaw. Coleslaw in my estimation is not a food that is aesthetically appealing. Anyway, the coleslaw was edible to me even though I'm not a coleslaw person. I wouldn't recommend it to people who don't like coleslaw. Next up, the ribs. They looked amazing. They had some little burnt parts that make it authentic bbq. I should've tried them without the sauce but I poured the sauce on first. The sauce and the ribs were excellent. The sauce was a mustard based sauce and it was delicious. The weren't especially juicy since they were babyback ribs but the taste was excellent. And the French bread and the little onions added a nice little touch to the plate. All in all I'll give my experience 4 stars. I wasn't quite sure what was going on with the building. Was it broken into or not? That did take a bit from my score but the food and service aspect of it was top notch. Go to Bay Barbecue. You won't be disappointed. read more

Wow, we found Bay Barbeque on Google with great reviews so went out of our way from downtown Mobile (2.5 miles only) to get some ribs. Unbelievable flavor and so tender! Wow. I mean, WOW. My family and I stopped in for some bbq on the way from Texas to Florida. I looked up bbq places in Mobile and am so happy we chose Bay BBQ. All of us, from 4-71 years old were in love and craved seconds. We will be stopping by again on the return. DO NOT MISS IT! The ribs were amazing...moist, tender, with the best taste! The house rule is that you have to try the food before you add sauce and there is good reason for that. The food is delicious without needing sauce. The side of vinegar coleslaw was crunchy with just the right amount of vinegar. Definitely a place to go visit again! read more

We were passing through Mobile for the night and we were all jonesing for BBQ. There were a couple of places not too far from downtown, one of which received a lot of accolades here on Yelp - Bay BBQ, but it was Saturday and it was closing within the hour. We took a chance and were glad to find the owner/operator still there and pleased to serve us what he had left; baskets of fried pork Bs with his delicious sauce, some ribs, pulled chicken and Texas style brisket. The sauce is tangy sweet and sour with a little bit of heat, the ribs dry rubbed and falling off the bone, and the brisket... incredibly lean and soft - not stringy, fatty or tough like some others. He uses a different spicier sauce for them, which was also delicious. We highly recommend! read more

We read the review in the Lagniappe, praising Bay Barbecue. So my husband and I came for lunch to check it out. We were not disappointed. We ordered the ribs and brisket. The most tender bbq I have ever had since I moved to Alabama 2 years ago from Chicago. We were politely greeted by the owner Arthur Green. Prompt seating and service received. Everything is fresh and made to order. They even have their own sauce! I'm usually a tough critic because restaurant dining is something I view as a whole experience. I honestly have nothing bad to say regarding the food and service received. The hours are very limited(open only during lunch hours) but Arthur stated he will start extending the hours to Saturday's soon. We look forward to that because we will be back! read more

My family stopped in today for a late lunch. I was worried about them not having food ready since it was 2:00 and no one else was there. That seems to usually be the case for bbq restaurants, but not so today. It is a small house, which looks like it's being converted into a larger dining area. The owner greeted us with a smile and was very welcoming. He explained the menu and recommended the ribs as that's their crowd pleaser. Every table gets fried chicharon (pork rinds) and their awesome bbq sauce. We ordered the Mobile plate which had 3 ribs, sweet tea chicken thigh, 1 deviled egg, and 2 signature sides. Instead of the chicken, you can get sausage. The "erotic" ribs are aptly named. Excellent, excellent! The chicken and sausage were quite tasty as well. As we left, we wanted to see if we could take home a bottle of the sauce, but unfortunately they were out of bottles. We'll see if we can order some online. You need to try this place. I know they do mostly catering right now, but hopefully the dine in business takes off. I wish them the best of luck and future success. Bay Barbecue's ribs and sauce are hands down the best we've ever had. After extensive research, I chose Bay Barbecue for our first ribs of vacation. I called and asked if they were open and if so, could we please pick up four racks of ribs at 3:00. They remarked that they were planning to close at 2:00 but that they would be happy to stay and wait for us to arrive. We have sampled barbecue from several places in St Louis and Memphis but we now have a new favorite. Upon hearing that it was our first time at BB, they insisted on an immediate tasting. It is clear that they take pride in their work as well they should. They run a very reasonably priced, well-kept establishment and are incredibly kind. Especially amidst the pandemic, we felt very comfortable in the building and consuming their food. While our BBQ research will continue, I have a feeling that we will always compare others to Bay Barbecue, wishing we were there instead. read more
