This place is in a house in a neighborhood. First impression, love it

This place was awesome! Our first visit on a Thursday with reservations at 6:30. SHORT VERSION: Liz our waitress was awesome, new silver for each course, have not seen that in Mobile until tonight, love it!, every course was full of flavor, and very creative, and prepared perfectly. Chef Jim Smith came out to the tables to personally say thank you. LONG VERSION: [[HIGHLIGHT]]Located in a home neighborhood is a vibrant gem of a restaurant with a small bar. A few seperate dining areas throughout[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. We were seated just ahead of reservation time. Liz was around when we needed her and not hovering. She was very helpful all night. You can order a 5 course meal with choices or ala carte. We ordered beer and wine and biscuit service with 4 biscuits in a cast iron pan, with whipped butter, dark cane syrup and smoked sea salt. Ok, amazing flavors and perfect biscuits, wow. Next oysters and the chilton county Peach and heirloom tomato salad. Next she ordered the Sicilian shrimp and grits, I had the Alabama blue crabcakes with rice grits, sweet soy butter sauce and brown beech mushroom salad. The entire meal was awesome every dish was prepared, executed, and delivered excellence. Now, you know we had to have dessert, we got the pineapple upside down cake, cooked to order so, it took some time. Just wow. Chef Jim Smith and his team, knocked it out of the park for us. By far, the best restaurant experience we have had since moving here in February and we go out 3x per week. We will absolutely be back many times.

    Hanger steak

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Great spot and not crowded on a Saturday night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Delicious and buttery hanger steak but the crab cake was even better. Will be returning to this unique restaurant within walking distance to Callaghans.

This was a super nice experience. I've been eating out a lot this week because of my birthday week. Lol. Yes. It's actually through Halloween but who's counting the days. Folks have been treating me to some great food with wonderful friends and fam. Hummingbird did not disappoint. From the fried whole Flounder to the cocktails and specialty appetizers. No complaints from this YELPER. JOE provided excellent service and we had a nice visit from the Master Chef. Yup, I love feeling at home in a restaurant. So at home. Only difference was I didn't have to wash the dishes. Lol.

The vibes were immaculate! Had my birthday dinner here earlier this month and I was blown away. Food was tasty. The drinks were incredible. Our server was so kind and knowledgeable. The owner/chef came by to check and tell me happy birthday. He also took the birthday cake my best friend got me to the back to cut it himself. I would love to go back.

    Cute back porch!

I planned to cut 1 star because it took 45 min to get our food... BUT when the food came, the flavors won the star back! I NEVER order crab cakes because I'm VERY PICKY, so crayfish cakes didn't register on my radar until the waiter HIGHLY recommended them. We were very happy, by the end of the meal.

I came in here cautiously optimistic as I normally do when I go into fancier, high-end restaurants. I came out a firm believer and a satisfied customer. "What did it for me?" you will ask. The answer: Conecuh Braised Rabbit & Grits with Eggplant, King Trumpet, & Spiced Chow Chow. There is a lot to say about this dish, so I won't be able to capture it all, but I will do my best. First off, the rabbit. Don't think I've ever had it before. Here, it was braised. It had a really smooth texture that didn't have a gamey taste. Both the skin and the meat kind of reminded me of duck, but the meat had nowhere near the fat content of duck. Secondly, the grits were gritty yet very rich, creamy (I can't stand "grits" that aren't gritty), and filling. Third, I really liked this dish because it had southern cooking roots, but it also had a lot of Asian components too. Thus, this dish is unofficially in the Asian fusion realm, and it is basically a microcosm of myself - an American Born Chinese (ABC). The creamy grits and Conecuh sausage are definitely staples of the south, but the spiced chow chow (cabbage), eggplant, king trumpet (mushroom), and green onion garnish really reminded me a lot of fantastic Chinese dishes I grew up on. This dish was just a great, organized amalgam of flavors and textures. From the smoothness, savoriness, and slight saltiness of the rabbit meat to the sweet, creamy grittiness of the grits. To the fibrous bitterness of the eggplant. To the fresh earthiness of the king trumpet. Then to the slight spiciness AND sourness of the slightly pickled, spiced chow chow. Last but certainly not least - this was a hearty dish. They weren't trying to scam me on portions here. A great portion of protein, fiber, and carbohydrates - all tasty. All in all, this was one of the most creative and well-executed meals that I've had!!!

Loved this quiet little neighborhood restaurant. Set in an old house among residential homes under the historic oaks...so quaint! Great service at the bar-the only place we could get seats on our 2 visits while in Mobile. Food was fantastic. Bartender made a killer mint julep. Overall one of new favorite spots.

I'm enough of an oyster snob that I felt the need to belly up to the oyster bar and do it right. Amazing HUGE wild oysters (young dude shocking suggested the wild) but I've had some of the farm-raised in the area so I got 6/6. So flipping good and SO huge I didn't need much for dinner and these were more than plenty! Young man's Dad was also at the bar and had a nice chat with both. I should've listened to all of the advice from the locals on Reddit, who warned me that this place has fallen on harder times. The char grilled oysters were funky. I ate them but worried as I ate them. The hush puppies earned a star. They were pretty tasty. The were my favorite thing on the table. However, we asked for butter, and our server gave us packets of butter substitute. Doesn't this restaurant have real butter? The gumbo was fairly tasteless and also, they had chopped up whatever seafood was in there so finely that it all just turned into mush. If there was any seafood in there, I sure didn't taste it. The West Indies crab salad was a shocking disappointment. It was a scoop of crab meat, which they ruined by mixing it up with mayo. That's it. An ice cream scoop of canned crab meat mixed with heavy mayo. It's like they didn't even try. The bread pudding left very little impression. It was a little rectangular square. Our server misunderstood us when we said we wanted it topped with ice cream, and served the bread pudding alongside a bowl of five scoops of vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup and whipped cream. It was a very odd dessert situation, but we worked our way through it. Our server was an amusing fella. He kinda/sorta made the evening. Overall, I'm glad I went so I could know for myself. However, I do wish that I had listened to the locals on Reddit.
