My family and I stumbled upon this local barbecue spot while we were down in Mobile, AL and wanting to find a BBQ restaurant. The customer service was fabulous, and we had Jarvis assisting us. He kept his rather entertained keeping our water filled. If you need a recommendation from Jarvis,-' definitely get the water .' You can see the big grill where all the meat is smoked. Our table of six had an assortment of combo meals from the pulled chicken to the ribs to the half chicken to the smoked sausage, even a baked potato. I forget the name of the dessert we tried, but it was good. It was almost like a chocolate mousse. I didn't have the iced tea, but it seemed to be popular there. I really enjoyed that mac & cheese, it was really creamy and typically don't have mac and cheese. The coleslaw was good too! The beans were a bit too sweet for many at the table. I wasn't a huge fan of the vinegar styled barbecue sauce, but I'm glad I tried it. Very good service by Eugene here. Plenty of parking, not very busy on this Thursday night at 615ish. We ordered the fried okra and it arrived very hot and tasty, nice crunch. Next she had the pulled pork plate with beans and potato salad, it was pretty good. I had the half rack of ribs with potato salad. They were tasty with a nice spice on the sauce. This here is a legit BBQ experience. I got some ribs, mac, and fried green tomatoes. The ribs had a good balance of fat, and that made them juicy. I appreciate that. Mac was good, and tomatoes were good. The tangy vinegary sauce was awesome. I really liked it here. read more

What I think Dreamland does best is not overcooking their ribs. I run away when I read fall off the bone. There should be at least a slight chew to them. Fall off the bone is pork mush not BBQ. read more

Wow, Dreamland BBQ has the best ribs I've had in a very long time. One bite into the rib was perfect, tender, juicy flavorful, and the meat did not fall off the bone. Was delicious of vinegar based thank you and flavorful. The restaurant has ample tables and booths in view of the barbecue pit. It was wonderful watching the pit-master mastering his craft. On 11-1-25, we visited Dreamland BBQ in Mobile AL. WE WATCHED CUSTOMERS WALK OUT THE DOOR!! Disgusting!! The restaurant is grossly dirty. The attitude of the waiter at our table and the manager were unfreaking believable!! Our experience was so bad that if someone told me the stories of what happened on the cool November Saturday night in South Alabama, I wouldn't believe it. The waiter acted as though he would rather be anywhere in the world other than waiting on people at Dreamland BBQ. And the fact they he would rather sit in the back on his phone while our food sat in the pickup window and then get pissed at me when I asked if our food was supposed to be to be cold. Then he goes and gets another BBQ sandwich with what was suppose to be homemade potatoe fries for me and brings it back to the table and slams it down and says "here ya go!" I mean, I'm sorry what?? And that second sandwich & whatever type of homemade fries they are serving were still cold. The food tasted ok but my husband and I prayed we wouldn't get sick from what we ate. My hubby had the ribs/pork beans/cole slaw. Ribs were cold, pork beans were hot from coming out of the can into the mircrowave. The coleslaw. Not sure where that came from but it is what it is. They need to have a corporation overhaul in this restaurant. It has gone to the dump, the prices are outrageous for what use to be a great place to get some good ole southern BBQ. We've eaten here dozens of times over the past 20 years and never been disappointed. Not so much tonight. When you leave a BBQ place and the best thing you had was the okra and macaroni and cheese, it's a shame. We ordered rib tips and ribs. The rib tips were greasy and liquid (more sauce than meat--even the waitress commented on how bad it looked) and the ribs were over cooked and dry. Ordered the sauce on the side and got no sauce. The food was amazing! I had never eaten here and my husband brought me today on our way to Biloxi. Our waitress was so very rude though. I'm not sure why but she wouldn't refill our drinks and seemed irritated when we asked for anything. Well business got in the way of my barbeque tour, so I did not get a chance to visit Fox Brothers BBQ in Atlanta. Imagine my surprise when Dreamland BBQ popped up on Google Maps as I approached Mobile, AL. I was not aware that there were multiple locations. The Mobile location's ambiance matched it's more upscale location (visible from I-65). The menu was slightly different from the menu in Tuskaloosa, but I quickly located the rib sandwich and cole slaw. The ribs were not quite as large or "zesty" as the order in Tuskaloosa, but I was thoroughly happy with the food and the table service was great. As I was finishing my meal I felt a great warmth behind me. I turned to find a roaring blaze coming from the kitchen. It appears that the restaurant was designed so diners have a view of the kitchen, and they were burning off the grill for the evening. Exciting (i.e. intially alarming!). The potato salad was definitely homemade with just the right amount of mustard. Okra was tender with the right amount of breading. Wife got the ribs and slaw and both were great. Best pork ribs I've eaten since touring the country starting November 12th, 2024. Traveling from California, and stopping to eat at various rib joints, I found these pork ribs to be juicy and not slathered in sugary bbq sauce. Love their bbq sauce and that you get some of the freshest loaf bread and bbq sauce to snack on while you wait for your food. The servers are always so nice! First thing I noticed when I walked in was how sticky the floor was. The restaurant felt like it was meant to be decorated as a southern bbq joint, so it was to be expected. Waitress was rude from the moment we sat down until right before it was time for the tip. So I guess good job at realizing that you were supposed to be making money off of me. Food was underwhelming, for the most part. Pulled pork was decent on its own but was missing anything special. Mac and cheese tasted like it came out of a bag. Fries were actually the best thing I ate. I told my husband not to eat the plain white bread bc I could see the waitresses getting it out of the bag with their bare hands, even though there were two sets of tongs on the bread station. My sister and I ate lunch here today. It was my first time and she has tried the location in Birmingham. She had a full rack of ribs that seemed undercooked and definitely not fall-off-the-bone tender at all, but actually so tough that even a hungry dog would have a hard time chewing it off the bone. I had the Combo of pork ends and pulled pork with fried okra and potato salad. My selection was a lots better, and we both had generous portion sizes. Service was good, well attending us, but the place just didn't smell Smokey or BBQ enough. It seemed to lack it's customer appeal from generations ago. In planning a weekend trip to Mobile, Alabama, I was told that this restaurant was a must-see! We stayed at the Kate Shepard bed and breakfast which was located about 10 minutes away. Everything about this barbecue joint screams "BIG DADDY" He's definitely remembered for his iconic ribs and barbecue sauce. Yes he has the sauce!!! I remember this place featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives some yeeears ago. Since I'm no stranger to Alabama, I knew I was headed Dreamland. My first time coming to this location was in 2012, and hands down is still great barbecue in Mobile. I personally think the Tuscaloosa location beats this location in the tenderness of the ribs, but the sauce is what really makes the ribs. The smoky flavors of the meat is not overpowering, and still doesn't require sauce if you're not a sauce person. I definitely drenched the "tangy slightly sweet with a burst of light heat sauce"on my chicken sandwich, since white meat can sometimes need more moisture. I definitely can't forget about the creamy sweet delicious banana pudding to enjoy as well, what a sweet treat. I definitely recommend this place if you're in Mobile Alabama area. Walked in 30 minutes before closing time. The lovely ladies working the front counter were super gracious and welcoming. Chatted it up a bit and they made some recommendations which I went with. Ordered the dinner plate with two meats, beans, potato salad and the banana pudding. The dining area was pretty buttoned up but I took notice of the amazing wood fired smoker. Tons of hickory and oak wood ready for the next day. The ladies were great to include the waitress who was cleaning up dressed as a cat (it was Halloween).
