The worst place to do business. The customer service is mediocre not warm, and they seem to be untrusting with member of affiliate branch members. I had a cashiers check that was sent to me by my bank for a funding with my credit union. They watched me open the envelope detach the remit and sign the back . The teller brought it to the bank manager ( Michelle) which brought it back to me stating they didn't trust that it was real. And told me because the way it looked to her, she wasn't accepting my check. Instead of call the bank for me to verify the check. (which takes 5 minutes) she decides to reject my payment. I've been with Bay Cities for many years. Got on thru my mom who has had an account with them since the early 90's. What can I say... they make it super easy to deal with any issues you may have or if you just simply want to ask a question. Now that I don't live in the area, I can send a text, and they reply immediately! From Georgia to Jessica and Gloria. They always give the best service. I recently had a little hiccup with my car insurance company, and Jessica sprang into action and dealt with my insurance agent herself. Problem solved. I will close my account, I have been a member for 6 years but honestly they have the worst customer service, I am very disappointed. whenever I come most of the ladies are unprofessional, impatient and very rude. Today we went to open an account for my aunt and also apply to refinance her car. The woman at the window didn't even want to open the account, she said she was going to go to lunch and when we had questions with the application she was ignoring us. We started the application to refinance, the woman was so unprofessional, she asked for the car registration, the contract, miles, etc. We provided everything then she said I'm very confused, I'm not even know how much down payment she paid. I don't think the contract is complete, I'm going to run the credit but she is not going to qualify because she doesn't pay rent is her husband who pays the rent. So I asked her, which documents does she needs to bring to prove that her husband pays the rent? and she told me I don't know, I'm confused, it's complicated. Basically I don't think they even want to work there, they're so unhelpful, they can even told me what kind of documentation we need to bring to show prove of house renting. read more

I love this bank because I am a member of a credit union, not theirs but because they are a shared branch and I can do business at this bank as if I belonged to them. Unfortunately I am reducing my rating to three. While I understand Covid 19 has changed the way businesses operate, they are barring non member from using the indoor services. That's right folks if you are a shared branch member you can't go in for help with a teller or do a deposit. You have to use the ATM. My husband has been a member for years, and we recently financed an auto loan through Bay Cites. We compared rates from other financial institutions and even through Tesla's financing. The rate we received at Bay Cities was the best! I'm talking rates that are 1.5%-2% lower than others. There is also incentives for setting up automatic payments and purchasing an EV. Our loan officer, Aurora Domingo helped us through the entire process and made this experience amazing for us both. She answered all of our questions in a timely manner, immediately corresponded to our emails/texts, and ensured our loan was all taken care of. We are so impressed by the service we received from Aurora, we will be sure to use Bay Cities again for any other auto loans in the future!! read more

This credit union is not as great as it use to be. The phone rep is courteous, but not knowledgeable. The credit union erroneously charged a return ACH fee when there was sufficient funds in the account. $25 fee for an $8 withdrawal. I am seriously thinking about changing my primary credit union. They also changed their system, and I am unable to transfer funds from one subaccount to another subaccount. read more

My credit union is based in LA and I'm glad that Bay Cities is affiliated to my bank. They made all my transactions super easy. The bank is clean, organized with plenty of staff that are friendly and courteous. Except this elderly bank teller and she is the worst ! People have told me my hand writing is pretty neat but this teller has always trouble reading my writing. At some point she told me my bank and account number don't exist. I've never had any issue with other tellers except for this one. Her customers service is not great and it's upsetting sometimes. But all in all I've always had a great experience with this bank. THE GOOD: In short, they are local, small, and have great rates. I've financed my last 3 cars with Bay Cities over the last 15 years, for two reasons: First, they treat me like family. They are consistently helpful and friendly when I work with them. Second, and equally important, they have given me very competitive rates for auto loans. I have a clean credit score, and Bay Cities has either met or significantly beat the APR of every other car loan offer I've ever found. Most recently (Oct. 2014) they were willing to match any other bank's offer as low as 1.9% on a 72-month loan as long as I use their automatic-payment system. All of my interactions have been over the phone, I've never gone to their Hayward location, but I have worked with Terry, Yolanda, and most recently Aurora. All three of them treat me with kindness and respect. On the few occasions that I've needed something out of the ordinary (like dealing with awful auto-dealership finance departments or awful Departments of Motor Vehicles) Bay Cities has always gone above and beyond the norm to ensure a successful outcome. I can't imagine Wells Fargo or Chase ever going to bat with the DMV on my behalf. THE NOT SO GOOD: They're an old-school bank. They're closed on weekends, they're technologically-challenged, and this doesn't appear likely to change anytime soon. The technology part is especially tough for me because I work in IT and know how convenient modern technology can be in banking, and how potentially dangerous it can be if used improperly. Their website is fairly consistently about 10 years behind what their competitors can offer. They finally have online banking now, but it's very limited. On the plus side, I am confident that they're online offering is following recommended security practices. Email is also challenging for them. Not everybody I've worked with knows how to email attachments properly. Most recently I got an 8-page document emailed with no subject line, and the document as 8 individual JPGs that were scanned to a legal-size template, so they all had 3 inches of white space at the bottom that had to be cropped off before I could print them. I've also once been emailed documents to sign that were for the wrong customer, including that person's full name, date of birth, SS#, and credit score. This was a huge red flag for privacy, and I now hesitate to interact with anybody at Bay Cities via email at all. To summarize: I love Bay Cities for being a local business with real people, and in order to enjoy that privilege, I also need to be a real person and come see them in Hayward. read more

i am a new member to this bank as of 2 months. it first went well, but it has been such a hassle for me to get here. i understand that there are issues with the post office for getting debit cards mailed on time due to covid. however, when i spoke with someone over the phone they had told me that they will issue a new card (since the first card never came in) and at the end of the conversation they said everything is taken care of and there will be a new card issued. i came to the bank and asked the clerk to see if a new debit card was ordered, the nice lady looked at me confused and said there was no card ordered. so at that moment she was kind to issue a card for me at that moment. their business hours are horrible for people who work monday - friday. i unfortunately work m-f, so i have to speed here sometimes on my lunch to withdraw cash inside. read more

I joined this credit union 6 mo ago I wanted to open a checking account, they said it would be free so I did it over the phone , instead they opened a savings acct, I called to inform it was supposed to be a checking I was told that I had to open a savings first then they would open a checking for me at a cost. I'm fairly disappointed and grossed out right now. I went in on 11/13 to withdraw cash and in the process I asked for roll of quarters. The money was covered in gunk like maybe it had been in the laundry detergent. Ontop of that I was shorted $1.50 out of a $10 roll. In the roll I had a penny, nickels and dimes. When people turn in told of quarters in your tellers should check them. Because you are shorting the next customer. Overall there service was nice but this is just crazy. I can never get anyone to return my phone calls. I went in to withdraw some funds from my savings account and make a change to my account. After almost having to curse them to "get my own money" the changes agreed upon never took place. You cant do much with the website either. I live in San Jose and only have this account through my employer. So having to drive all the way to Hayward, just to conduct a transaction is a bit much. I am not always available to make it inside before closing and it's not open on weekends so telephone is the only way I can do my banking with a live person. I can not reach anyone by phone. EVERYTIME I call it says wait for assistance, then I get transfered to a Georgette Mendoza's mail box where I have left several messages and to no avail. No return call or anything, leaving me to have to come in and its very inconvenient. Whenever I do reach a live person it's the call center and not the branch where they tell me that they can not handle my situation and that I would need to go inside and speak to someone. I have been a member at Bay Cities Credit Union for years and have come to this location, exclusively. The employees have always been nice, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The online banking is easy, though the site is a bit home-made feeling. There is even a phone banking option when you are away from your computer and need to do some banking. Not quite sure what is available because I've only used it to check my balance. So this should be a 5 star review, right? Well, until this past month, it would have been. In our many years as members, we have had access to free ATMs, even at a variety of non-Bay Cities locations, free checking & savings accounts. It was great. Then, as of September 2010, Bay Cities Credit Union no longer has free checking...they began to charge fees. $10 per month to simply have a checking account. Oh, but there's a discounted rate of only $5 if you have direct deposit. What a great discount...my fees just went from ZERO to either $5 or $10. Needless to say, we'll be leaving Bay Cities Credit Union before the next fee hits. Patelco has actual free checking & savings accounts, along with a variety of no-fee ATMs. So does Wells Fargo(well, for some accounts you get two free non-WF ATM withdrawals per ATM card). Chase(formerly WaMu) has free checking, but I'm not sure about non-Chase ATM fees. Don't know about others, but Bay Cities Credit Union definitely no longer offers free checking. It was good while it lasted...now it's good-bye! read more

My Father opened an account for me when I was a kid. To give you an idea how long I had been a member of Bay Cities, my account number was only 4-digits. I had accounts with this institution for close to 30 years... Recently, I had been getting charged "inactivity fees", which is apparently something new that Bay Cities probably sent me an arbitrary piece of mail about, and I either ignored, or forgot about. Slowly but surely, Bay Cities began to siphon off $5 a month, until I called them about it. They said that it was a new policy, and that I had to use the account, or they would continue to deduct the fees. I should say at this point that when I was younger, I used the account more. After I received my commission in the US Air Force, I started using USAA because they are almost always more competitive than other banks. That being said, whenever I was looking at buying a car, or something like that, I checked the rates with Bay Cities. So, I admit that I wasn't exactly a "daily customer" of Bay Cities but that shouldn't really matter. So, I said to the manager I was on the phone with: "Okay, just know that if you keep doing this, I'm going to close my accounts, and blast you on Yelp!" The fees kept coming, so I closed my accounts... They were warned!!! read more
