I had occasion to stop by this Patelco branch for a minor transaction. I've been a Patelco member for a long time and noticed the service of this credit union slowly break down over the past few years. This particular branch is a reflection of that disintegration. I had not visited this branch before and my review is on that one and only visit. The ATM machine was not functioning and had a sign that was written in marker affixed to it that announced that it was broken. The entrance to the office was dirty with leaves and random trash swirling about. I needed to do my errand and was determined to go in briefly to take care of it despite my misgivings. I don't think I've ever seen a bank location with such filth. There was loud pop music on the speakers inside which gave the environment a forced, intense feeling. I don't think banks should have music at all while people are waiting for service, let alone loud pop music. The teller who helped me was pleasant enough although on this day, her tone was dismissive when I asked her for a simple accounting of my balances. Apparently, Patelco DOES NOT PRINT ACCOUNT BALANCES on a transaction slip. Instead, they write it down on a stick-it note and hand it to you. Wow. Now...I knew this but I thought it was only for a random branch with random computer issues. This Hayward branch is probably the fourth branch I've ever visited and they do it here to. I think this is highly unprofessional and puzzling because the clerk gives you a transaction slip for every thing except for the total balance. It makes no sense. I didn't appreciate the dismissiveness in the clerk's tone regarding this simple request. It made me feel stupid and put upon. Perhaps the loud music made the experience worse (which is why banks shouldn't have ANY music playing). Money transactions are serious for everyone who visits banks. And the tone there made it into some kind of a weird party that was inappropriate. In any case, that's the last time I visit that branch of Patelco and frankly, the overall deterioration in service (I include online, phone and 'mail' service) gives me pause and I may just close account entirely. As far as I'm concerned, Patelco is not a good place to keep your money anymore. read more

This is my regular branch and I always have a great experience there. I am writing this review to highlight excellent service I received yesterday. I have attempted opening an IRA online and rollover my 401k to the new account since May. The process to complete opening the account has been such a headache with miscommunication online. I arrived at Patelco Hayward yesterday with my rollover check in-hand and I was so impressed with rep Denisse and her patience and willingness to help me. Getting everything figured out and completed required her to work after the bank was closed. She did this without complaint and was very kind and thorough. The bank tellers and management are great! But Patelco as a company needs to refresh the branch. The inside is small and not updated like most locations, presentation is everything, especially for the banking system. It's not in a great location the shopping is old and the property manager needs to step up and make changes. read more

The Fremont branch of the Patelco Credit Union office was closed Thursday with only a sign on the door stating "This Office is Temporarily Closed" with no other explanation. On Friday, there was another sign on the door next to the first sign stating "This Office is Closed" still with no other information. I am not happy with Patelco for not at least sending an email, telling that the Fremont Office would be temporarily closed, or permanently; which ever. And also, no one that I talked to on the Patelco phone line could give me any information about the closure. I was there to put money in. He helped me obtain a 10k loan to diversify my credit history by adding installment debt and not just relying on revolving debt, such as credit cards. Along with getting a loan, he recommended opening a money market account with a high yield interest and a overdraft protection account- which was just another plus for me. So recently, Patelco's fraud department contacted me and let me know that there was a strange debit card transaction on my account. I hadn't checked my account balance that day and panicked, thinking the absolute worst. Turns out some jerk charged a couple of hundred dollars at a major department store in the South Bay, using my debit card number (mind you, my card was sitting in my wallet and I was at work when the charges occurred). Patelco's systems immediately flagged this transaction as suspicious and shut down my card for further use, eliminating the potential for additional loss. How awesome is that? I visited the Hayward branch on Amador the very next day and the employees there were great. They gave me a temporary debit card, ordered a new debit card for me, and walked me through the process for officially reporting the theft of funds. The money was returned to me in just a couple of days. Outstanding! I was beyond pleased and can honestly say Patelco is a safe institution for your banking needs. They rock! I seen Patelco's ad at the coliseum so on my day off I went there hoping to get my APR lowered for my loan. Met with Tia and she was awesome. She even worked through her lunch so that we wouldn't be passed around to someone who didn't know our situation. :) Anyways. The bullshit, bologna, phony, liar liar pants on fire piece of shit finance manager at BMW Pleasanton freaken lied to me and said although my credit score was good no credit union would give me less that 4.9 because I never purchased a car before. And with the first try, the wonderful Tia was able to get my APR lowered to 1.99 without a consigner etc! Now my monthly payments have dropped and I'm a happy camper. read more

After departing a gig at SFO (where my credit union lives), I was looking for a satellite branch closer to home. Tracy found Patelco and we learned that I could do all my SFO-type c.u. transactions there rather than mailing in documents or trampling across the Bay. Unfortunately for Patelco, my first meeting with them involved a mysterious application of doggy-doo on my bag. These kind folks alleviated my mortification with loads of handy-wipes and understanding. To this day, I am unsure from whence the doo came. A subsequent visit involved several different transactions for a business trip, and Jonathan was my teller. He is friendly, patient, and informative, and handles everything effortlessly with a smile. I am almost sorry we will be moving as this branch has been lovely from the get-go. Good thing there is a Patelco near our new domain and we hope that the level of service there will be equivalent to the Hayward location. read more
