I visited this location to understand why money was being withdrawn from my account, which was actually being taken from my son's account. Be aware If you try to open business account with this credit union, They have very specific and non sense policy. Even you just need a sole prop account by using your personal name, you need to show that you have business license/certificate (which I do have it). Plus they don't allow you to have another business if the other business was not registered by your personal name. (No law says one person can't own more than one business right?) I set up the appointment to open the account almost a week ahead, the banker sent me emails to ask supportring docs etc which I replied immediately. But when I personally came in today, she told me the manager told her that the business account can't be open. If they already had the decision for not opening the account. they should've informed me ahead instead of wasting my time to come over. read more

I have enough money saved up to buy a Slurpee. No, I'm kidding. I can buy 2. My wife and I have gone here every other Saturday for 2.5 years now (on Saturdays the branch is open from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.). I realized this past Saturday that I should post an update. The minor issues that I mentioned before have all pretty much been addressed (in short, 5 stars is warranted now). The tellers, to their credit, look at me without giggling, and their noses don't curl up over my bad body odor. o_O In all seriousness, the 3 main tellers are Reena, Heena, and Jessica. They are all cute, friendly, patient, and on the ball (the word exceptional comes to mind). Dennis regularly worked here, but I haven't seen him in months. He's professional and quick, but he makes me feel rushed. My wife and I also don't know why he prints out so many receipts (even if you make a few transactions, only 1 is usually needed). I have felt rushed by Jessica before, but I mainly blame myself (I know that I can come across as being in a hurry). The new tellers who are here sometimes have all been very solid. Some customers (idiots) don't know where to stand (I still remember when this one man cut in front of us), but the tellers can't babysit people. There are now 2 ATMs. The one inside has helped to keep the lines shorter. I could be wrong, but it also seems to be a bit more sophisticated than the ATM outside. Anyway, the tellers are quick to help customers who need assistance using it. A number of months ago, customers were also helped with regular banking inside the side rooms (this remains the case). You couldn't make withdrawals, though (I was usually able to do my banking, but my wife wasn't). Just recently, this situation has been fixed (all the equipment is basically now hooked up with each other). If you do your banking inside a side room, you'll receive really large receipts, but this is just sort of comical. The parking lot is kind of small and tight. (It's unlikely, but if you have to, you can park in the lot in the immediate area. It was just built recently. There should also be some parking by Lucky.) My wife and I enjoy coming here. Very disappointed that this credit union changed the account terms on a CD prior to its maturity date. The location is convenient, the parking is adequate, the office is clean and the tellers are friendly and for that, they get one their one star from me. However, management will do nothing to honor their commitments made when I opened my account. The terms of my CD were changed midstream and all they did was to say, we gave you 30 days notice. I'm so disappointed in this credit union. I imagine if I took my money out and took it elsewhere, they would still attach a penalty to me for early withdrawal, even if I gave them 30 days notice. read more

One of the best banks around that I know. As far as I remember, 1st USCU has been our family's bank. My mom even started her career with this financial institution when I was a wee lad, as a bank teller. I never had any problems or issues with doing my banking here. All the staff and locations are on par, stellar service, and convenient hours! It may be hard if you're trying to withdraw some cash while traveling, but do know that you could use ANY Credit Union institution to withdraw cash! Just make sure to do some research ahead for their CO-OP locations, which allows you to use their ATM machines with no fee! I've pretty much gone to most of their locations in the East Bay (from Berkeley, Pleasanton, and Fremont - and all the other ones in between, even their now defunct Union City location!) At this particular location, their location is very convenient, as it's in the heart of Downtown Castro Valley, and could make errands an enjoyable one to do, since you could grab a bite, get coffee, do some groceries, mail your bills at the USPS nearby, etc! The outstanding staff provides excellent customer service, and are very friendly AND courteous. Their lobby area was very clean, vibrant, and has that welcoming feeling! Never felt rushed, nor neglected, especially with their new Self-Service machine that's pretty much self-explanatory. I really don't have a favorite 1st USCU, but they're my favorite financial institution! Highly recommend to ya'll tryna open up an account! read more

7/19/2021 I just came back form this credit union that I've passed many times. I have been entertaining the notion of transferring my accounts to a local, friendlier institution. When I came into the bank, the teller was friendly, but didn't give her name. We began to talk about transferring/closing accounts, setting up a new one, etc. EXCEPT for two, obnoxious employees carrying on a very LOUD, OBNOXIOUS, PRIVATE non related work conversation at an adjacent cubicle from the teller that was TRYING to assist me. She appeared to be above reproach, with an air of haughtiness, looking over at me as if to say, "what is MY problem?" HER being loud, unprofessional and disrespectful in a workplace environment. I mean, there were ONLY THREE workers there, and ME ONE ALMOST CLIENT. Now, not so much. If this was manager, then that's bad. So much for "friendly, courteous service." read more

I have been a member of 1st United Credit Union for at least 20 years. Today, I went in to wire money, which I have never done before. Dennis Bladimir Escalente asked me who I was wiring the money to? By looking at the form I just assumed it was the first title on the form. After Mr. Escalente scrutinized the form he corrected me and explained why. He told me that if anything is incorrect the payment will be rejected. So, he wanted to make sure it was correct. I have dealt with Mr. Escalente on a number of occasions and he has always given his very best customer service. He is always polite and respectful and knows his job. He once even helped his coworker to complete a transaction. The Credit Union is a great place to do business! And, Mr. Escalente is a very valuable asset. read more
