Never will I need to shop anywhere else for my appliances!! They were my saving Grace. I am a small business owner and needed a new washer ASAP. They had the washer in stock, get it delivered within 2 business days. Now in ordered to install the washer we needed to put some thing away and move things around so they gave us a 3 hour time window and kept with it. I was talking with Maribel on the phone throughout this process and she has been absolutely wonderful, responsive and super helpful! The two gentlemen showed up today and made this the most painless installation ever. We paid for haul away and installation and it was totally worth it. They had to move the gas dryer to but the washer in, and there were tight places they had to deal with. No complaining from them, they made it seem like no big deal and installed everything perfect. After the took the old washer out, they even cleaned the area!!! Once they put the new washer in, they had to reinstall the dryer, which they even checked to make sure nothing was leaking and there were no problems. I have been a long-time client of Bay Cities. But this was very disappointing behavior. I went to Bay Cities to replace my refrigerator drawers Upon providing you with the make and model of our Subzero refrigerator drawer, Maribel Martinez recommended an alternative brand. Trusting her expertise, we proceeded with the recommended alternative brand refrigerator drawers, assuming that the necessary measurements and specifications had been thoroughly considered. Regrettably, upon delivery, the drawers did not fit our space and were deemed un-installable by the installer they did not fit in the space. The installer took it back to Bay Cities, but then Bay Cities turned around and said that they couldn't take it back because he had been installed and the box was open, so we had to resell it on consignment?! They refused to refund the $2515.30 purchase! It was not installed as it didn't fit in the space, and we were not informed that this was a "special ordered merchandise" situation or that it was a non-refundable order! That is highly unusual for a fridge in today's market! As customers, we relied on Bay Cities expertise to compare the specs for the two refrigerator drawers and trusted their guidance when we placed the order. read more

We bought a very expensive Thermidor stove top that stopped working within two months. They are awful. We ordered a dishwasher and asked if the interior was the same size of another brand that we previously had. They said yes. We were only able to see the inside after it was installed. We immediately called them right after the installer left and requested an exchange. The owner Jac was very rude, condescending and hung up on us. We ended up selling the dishwasher on Craig's list. Hope this helps make your own decision whether or not you want to do business with this company. Let me preface that I battled cancer, am on chemo, wake up at 3:00 am for work. Our dishwasher broke, so my husband took it upon himself to help us get a new dishwasher. He worked with Mirabelle, who promised that the Miele dishwasher we were considering was the exact size of the Bosch we currently owned at the time. Most specifically, my husband asked the internal size of the dishwasher, i.e. the racks. He was told that they were both made in Germanys (the same). On the sales woman's word, he purchased the dishwasher, not knowing that in fact, the dishwasher racks were 4 inches shorter, approx 5-6 glasses less for loading. NOT the same as the Bosch. As soon as I got the chance and saw the inside of the installed Miele, I immediately called Bay Cities to share the issue that indeed the size was much smaller and not what we were told by the saleswoman. I spoke to a "Jack", who then put me on hold for 15 minutes, after giving him the order number. He then followed up with rude remarks such as: "Because you are a woman you get what you want", and since I'm a woman, "You should have handled this". Shocked, I asked to speak to the manager. He proceeded to yell at me that he was insulted and HUNG UP ON ME. Unbeknownst to me at the time, "JAQUES"/Jack ends up being the owner. We have tried to contact him via phone and emails to resolve the issue, and he has not responded. We have now had to get our American Express credit card involved to resolve the issue of returning the dishwasher and replacing it with a Bosch. Since he has not responded to AMEX, we are being held captive waiting to see what happens next. "As a woman", I have never been treated so poorly by someone who does business with the public. Horrible customer service. The receptionist Maribel should not be the first person your customers interact with. When asked to speak to a sales rep she insisted on asking me what I needed and she would have someone get back to me. So I sent her an email with a basic idea of what I needed and did not here back after a day, so I decided to follow up. I let Maribel know that I called and email the day before and her response was an exasperated "yeah you spoke to me, I haven't had a chance to look at your email". As someone in sales I would imagine you would respond to an email from a lead within 24 hours let alone open it. She sounded very annoyed at the fact that I called to follow up and she continued asked "so what do you want" in a very annoyed an short tone. I let her know I put it in the body of my email. She responded that there are no specifics just basic items. At which point I let her know yes I would like to speak to a sales rep regarding specific, but by this point she started to get upset that I had the audacity to ask for a sales rep.. go figure. Being that it's a family business, I really felt like I was being taken care of rather than just another client. I was looking for more information on Subzero and Wolf appliances and Maribel was beyond helpful in finding the best appliances for my budget and my needs. She was honest and thorough in her knowledge of the appliances, which helped make my decision all the more easy. When I redo my kitchen I know exactly where I will be going!!! As an aside, their showroom is amazingly full and worth going to check out for inspiration on designs. I first explored this store when we were looking to remodel our kitchen. They have an in-house designer there, that's more of a salesman, than a professional remodeler. His designs are typical, and his understanding of clients needs is seriously lacking. We went somewhere else for our modern kitchen design because their portfolio included nothing like that, which is weird considering they have a bunch of high end looking modern kitchen setups in the front of the store. We paid to work with an experienced design professional on our own, someone that has an amazing portfolio and experience working on high-end homes. We had floor plans, elevation drawings, material samples, and our permit was approved by the City of Santa Monica. We decided to go back to Bay Cities for a bid on the cabinetry now that we had all of the design work done. Their in-house designer would not give us a solid bid based on our drawings. He insisted that in order for us to use them, we had to pay the $2,500 retainer and go through their entire design process, including consultations for picking materials, which we already had, etc.. We explained we had paid and done a lot of the work already. He asked us who our designer was, and when we told him, he crapped in our oatmeal, saying she didn't know how to use a ruler. I hate that kind of rude, ego-driven mentality. Was this a thinly-veiled sales tactic designed to make us feel insecure about our process? An attempt at unsettling our confidence for the sake of a sale? So in order to buy their cabinets, you must use their design person, and they charge you $2,500 for this service, that then comes out of the price of the cabinets. Unfortunately, if you don't want to deal with this person, you don't have a choice, AND you have no idea how much the cabinets will cost in the end, so you can't really get competing bids and your stuck spending $2,500 even if you don't like their products or pricing. Their process is rigid and their designer is one awkward weird dude. He did say, since we had some work done that he would knock off $500 on that initial retainer, which seemed rather arbitrary. I would have given them two stars because we got a good deal on floor model appliances, except that some of those appliances were missing manuals and electric cords. They only get one. read more

I was quite shocked by the poor quality of customer service at Bay Cities. My wife spent 2 months trying to get someone on the line to address her issue (ordering some more shelves for our kitchen cabinet). She spoke to someone finally, but was asked to come in person. Over the following month, she would come 20-30 minutes before closing and each time the store would be closed. Apparently the staff isn't particularly interested in serving customers and close up early. Finally, I came in person last Saturday and left my shelf with the customer service guy named Marjon. He told me the order would be placed Monday. When I called back the following Saturday to check on the status, Marjon seemed surprised that I expected the order to be placed. He told me, "I have 50 other orders to deal with so you will just have to wait." When I reminded him that he told me the order would be placed 5 days earlier, he got upset and started yelling. Finally, he told me the order would take "one year" to get fulfilled and slammed down the phone. To put it mildly, I have never experienced such poort customer service. Bay Cities seems to have no interest in its customers. I took back my shelf and will never visit this retailer again. read more

They refused to deliver the order until it was paid up 100% up front and would not commit to a delivery date. Despite many calls they have ignored us and not taken care of it. We have had the installation company here three times. Finally we bought another refrigerator somewhere else. Beautiful showroom with tons of very nice contemporary cabinets and high end appliances on display. We absolutely adore the kitchen Ted designed. He was super thorough, very knowledgeable and detail oriented and he helped us come in right at budget. He and his install team patiently walked us through every step of the way and although it took 3 months to complete from start to finish, it was totally worth it! We love our Wolf range and steam oven and our hidden Subzero fridge and freezer...we get many compliments when we are entertaining and our kitchen has become the 1 room the entire fam loves to hang out in. They said it would take 10 days from the date of I made the deposit. 3 weeks later and Bay CIties has yet to produce my countertop and worse refuses to say when it will be ready. When I called to speak to the owner, Joseph Hassid, (WHO ALSO OWNS THE BEVERLY HILLS LOCATION) he was rude and said "why should I give my time and attention to such a small project." It's easy to be seduced by Bay Cities. The showroom is impressive, and Marjan Svetko is an enthusiastic, helpful designer. He offers a wide variety of nice features for kitchen cabinets and provides impressive drawings. And he tells you about how much he loves going to church on Sunday, eyes cast skyward. I fell for it. WHY IT'S A REALLY BAD IDEA TO USE BAY CITIES: 1. You have to pay all fees up front before the cabinets are delivered, so you have no financial recourse if there are problems. 2. The cabinets are made in China and take 8 weeks to be manufactured and shipped by boat. I had problems with a few cabinets (two were the wrong size, one wasn't square, there were some small parts missing, etc.). It took a month of arguing, cajoling, negotiating, and threatening to get the problems corrected. 3. The company attitude is, We've got your money, so we don't care about customer satisfaction. Mr. Svetko forgot to order two doors for a large ironing board cabinet. Instead of offering to pay for shipping by air or giving me a rebate, he had me wait an additional 2 months to get the doors delivered. No apology. No compensation for the inconvenience. 4. Bay Cities recommends one of their "qualified installers" to do the installation. ALEX LAPOS was a disaster. He came to the job with incomplete drawings, so he didn't know exactly how many inches fillers needed to be, the precise measurement of the refrigerator enclosure, etc. He and Marjan Svetko are obviously used to covering for each other. Instead of alerting me to problems with cabinet sizes and a cabinet that wasn't square, Mr. Lapos plowed ahead with the installation, hammering and drilling. He also came to the job without an assistant and with inadequate tools. He cut one of the boards with the wrong saw, leaving an ugly jagged edge. He tried to install one cabinet three times, damaging the cabinet and leaving holes in the wall because he hadn't measured properly. And he cut the wrong fillers and patched areas where he mismeasured. Unbelievably shoddy work. I fired him after the first day of work to prevent further damage. 5. And instead of coming to the job to supervise -- as the Bay Cities contract stipulates -- Mr. Svetko gave Mr. Lapos incomplete drawings to work with and let Mr. Lapos bang away. When I met with Mr. Svetko at Bay Cities a few days after the disastrous first day of installation -- with photos of the damage done by Mr. Lapos -- Mr. Svetko came up with absurd reasons why the mistakes Mr. Lapos made were actually "correct." Talk about collusion. They are masters of collusion. And deception. 6. I had to hire someone else to undo the damage Mr. Lapos caused and to install the cabinets properly. I am a high school English teacher. I'm not an angry or litigious person, but Mr. Lapos's stonewalling left me with no alternative but to do what I could. I filed a complaint with the Contractors State License Board AND filed a claim against his bond with the American Contractors Indemnity Company. I am out $1,450 paid to Mr. Lapos before starting the installation -- and I've had to spend an additional $3,000 to have the cabinets installed properly. IF YOU WANT TO PAY A LOT OF MONEY TO DEAL WITH SHYSTERS, THEN, BY ALL MEANS, GO TO BAY CITIES. read more

I have been a customer since 1994, Suffice it to say that there have been situations where I needed additional help with the manufacturers. Although not their responsibility, they were very helpful. There were even situations where others would have pushed replacement of a unit . However they encouraged me to repair the unit rather than replace it. I have purchased appliances for my rental units, residence and my entire family. Overall, they are fantastic to deal with. BUYER BEWARE! The negative reviews on Yelp about Bay Cities are a warning sign to proceed with caution. I was working with their designer Marjan and in the process of buying some cabinets and appliances from Bay Cities but wanted to get a total cost of my kitchen remodel. Therefore, I needed some estimates from contractors. A contractor that Bay Cities referred me to was overpriced. As an informed consumer I knew it was important to get another estimate and within my right. Prior to this estimate Marjan seemed to get agitated because I was taking the time to be informed about this project and not shelling out money until I was fully informed on what it entailed. His tone and behavior changed and the interaction with him became hostile and bizarre on his part. During phone conversations that he would initiate, he would talk over me and when he was done he would abruptly hang up the phone in my face. The last time he hung up in my face after asking me a question I called to speak to his supervisor/part-owner Jacques (Jac) and explained to him the blatant disrespectful and unprofessional behavior his employee was displaying. Jacques began to blame me, yell and use the same tone with me as Marjan and made accusations about my ability to pay. Insulted and in shock I decided to not conduct any business with Bay Cities since it was clear they did not respect me. Jacques began calling and leaving harassing messages on my voicemail. They almost had my business but were impatient and revealed their true motives and character. STAY AWAY from this place; they are extremely toxic, volatile, unprofessional, and uncouth. After canceling the purchase of a kitchen hood exhaust system from two major chains, I came upon Bay Cities. The salesman (whose name - I kid you not! - is "Zorro") looked at the model i had intended to purchase and have installed, and he found one from the same manufacturer that was 1/3 the price i was originally planning to get. However, before he would take any payment, he wanted the installation company to come to the house and determine that the intended hood would fit in the kitchen. His man ("Pepi") came out and took measurements, and found that it would work. Overall, a great experience, with excellent results. They will be my first choice for any appliance. read more

I've never been to their showroom since my orders can be done over the fax (I work in a construction office). They carry a large number of brands such as ASKO, G.E., Frigidaire, U-Line, etc. Their response to RFQ's can be slow at times but do ask for Mars, he seems very helpful. I find their prices tend to be higher than average. Delivery runs about $35. I once had a bad experience when the quote for an order was not honored after the invoice arrived. Despite my complaint & that it's their mistake in quoting a bad price in the first place, they did not back down. With that said, they're one of the few appliance dealers that offers trade credit which is the only reason why I would do business with them again. read more

They sold me a floor model refrigerator that to this day has never worked properly. Ihave had service out 13 times. It arrived at my home filthy and they did not come and clean it. it came with a broken vegetable crisper and they did not fix it. It was stated as a promotion with a free hood if you bought the refrig and they did not honor that. I tried to return the refrigerator in the first week and they refused. This place is a scam. I went to the store and paid up-front to have a sub-zero fridge moved and put back into place for a kitchen remodel, and ordered new panels. They asked for the fridge dimensions, which we provided, but when they arrived they were unable to move the fridge due to the size. They also broke the foot. Now they refuse to give me a refund for refrigerator panels I cannot use, which were never delivered. They are also withholding my money for the second half of moving the fridge, even though they never moved it in the first place. I am quite shocked by the low reviews! I had such a great experience when I was there about a week ago with my family. We were greeted by Maribel, a knowledgeable and welcoming lady. We were looking for a new washer and dryer and she was very informative. The showroom is truly a gem, one of the nicest I've ever seen, and it is very clean and modern. I fell in love with all the different kitchen displays. Prices were very competitive and lower or the same than a few other local stores I got quotes from. I went to the store to look at a Viking microwave I was told they had. I arrived at 4:50. Their website says the store closes at 5:30. When I walked in, there a man near the front window on the phone with a client. Between pauses in the conversation I told him I wanted to see a microwave. He dispensed with me by pointing his finger and saying "Someone can help you back there." I went into another area and a blond woman came out. I asked if they had the microwave I wanted in stock. She said no, it would have to be ordered, but we're closing at 5. And she basically rushed me out. I was dressed in a crummy hoddie and have a beard. I got the feelling she thought I was a homeless person. I didn't even see the model I wanted to look at. I thought she was very rude and I didn't like the way I was treated. We purchased a Whirlpool Washing Machine less than 2 months ago and it's already completely fried. As in, the entire control panel has malfunctioned and it's already taken 3 weeks just waiting for the back-ordered part to arrive, let alone be serviced for repair. Even the warranty repair facility said we should demand Bay Cities replace this washer - as this kind of repair shouldn't happen for at least 5 years from date of purchase. Bay Cities response? "Sorry, we're just the distributor you need to take it up with Whirlpool." Bay Cities Kitchens and Appliances in Santa Monica sells defective appliances. Avoid them at all cost.
