Two chips on an Odyssey windshield that eventually developed a crack. Fear of the crack extending much further. Reached out to a few places, and went with Bay City Auto Glass because their prices were competitive and they were available the same day. Got a knock on the door, on time, ready to start. Looked out to see, pulled up in front of the Odyssey, the other guy already unloading the new windshield. They showed me the replacement windshield before they got started. Looked good to me. Had to go back inside to take a phone call while they worked. Half hour or so later, got a knock on the door again. They finished. I inspected the work. Brand new glass. Installation seemed clean. Looked good to me. They informed me to keep the painters tape on and avoid car washes for a day to let everything set. Surprised to hear it had a warranty, which was nice. Review No. 2,600. I've lived in San Francisco for a grand totalish of 20.5 years. For all twenty years and six months of that time, I've owned a car. (First it was a Regal [aka the X-Wing, aka El Huevo, aka the Rage Machine]; then it was a Corolla; and now it's a Prius.) The Regal got broken into twice; the Corolla, once or twice; the Prius, once--although it has also had its catalytic converter stolen three times, it side-view mirror destroyed, and its headlight broken. Those window-shatterings occurred mostly between 2008 and 2015. On all three (or four) occasions, I have strong reason to believe that the would-be thieves were tipped off to my car having been left alone for a long time by flyers, tickets, or other things people (including SFMTA workers) had left on my windshield. Since 2015, I've been very good about checking my car often even when I don't move it, and I never leave anything visible in the car, so there's no reason to break into it. The most recent break-in occurred this past April. I didn't leave anything visible in my car, but Oakland thieves are apparently scummier than even San Francisco thieves, because I parked my car on the street right in front of a fancy-schmancy building that I'm sure has video cameras peering from its entrance in Uptown Oakland, and I returned a few hours later to find my rear quarter panel shattered and my rear seat down. Whoever did it didn't even bother to enter my car; he just broke the window, reached in to lower the backseat so that he could see that I had nothing in my trunk, and continued walking down the street. What's going on, Oakland? I know that thieves aren't afraid of getting caught anywhere in the Bay Area, but I would like to think that someone, somewhere would realize that it's a scumbag move to break someone's car window for absolutely no reason. I was annoyed but prepared to call my old friends at Glass Plus, but they've apparently RIPed since the last time I needed new glass, so my roommate put me onto Bay City Auto Glass. Carlos has a magic touch. I park my car on the street, often many blocks from my apartment, so I needed my car fixed in a hurry. Carlos was able to rearrange his schedule so that he could meet me at my car the morning after I called him. In fact, by the time I walked the four or five blocks to where my car was parked, he and his assistant were all ready to fix my car. The assistant started by vacuuming up as much glass as he could. As Carlos expertly pulled the old window and weather stripping off the car, the assistant was vacuuming my entire car's interior. He didn't need to do this, and I didn't ask him to, but he did, and he did a great job. After fifteen or twenty minutes from the time I arrived, the job was done. I paid Carlos, and my window is still fine. *Fingers crossed.* Even though I have Progressive for insurance, which prefers to use Safelite as its glass partner and even forces its customers to schedule through Safelite even if they're using another service, everything worked out just fine. Carlos got in touch with my insurance, and I received my check in the mail a week later. I could have waited for Progressive to pay Bay City Auto Glass before I had the work done so that I would only owe the deductible, but I needed my car fixed faster than that, and Carlos assured me both on the phone and in person that everything would get worked out quickly, and it did. I paid Carlos the full amount, including my deductible, and he had my insurance remit the remainder to me. While he was waiting for the glue to dry, Carlos took a phone call from another customer, and he was just as kind and professional with this person as he was with me. Carlos is a champion, and I'm definitely going with Bay City the next time this happens, although I hope I never see Carlos again. read more

I'm no stranger to window replacements. Various cars have been broken into over a dozen times during my time in San Francisco - never getting anything of value from the car. My car (Tesla S) had its drivers side rear quarter window broken into while dining in the city recently. It wasn't the first time for this car (3rd or 4th), and probably won't be the last. I reached out to several folks for quotes, and had quotes ranging from $450 to $1250(!). While my usual go-to auto glass shop was out of stock for this glass, Bay City had it in stock. Their communication was very strong, they arrived in a timely manner, and were polite and courteous. They setup an outdoor tent as it was raining, and got to work. Unfortunately, while the window appears well sealed, the trim quite visibly juts out. I was advised this is because the window had been previously replaced (true), and that only the dealer could address this with new trim. This was surprising to me given it had been successfully repaired several times in the past. It appears they may have damaged the trim and blamed it on past repairers. I was given two options: They remove the glass and charge me nothing, or charge me $300 (about half the original quote), which they claimed was the cost of the glass. I opted for the $300 option, and just hope that the dealer doesn't cost too much to replace the trim. I'd consider Bay City Auto Glass for more 'standard' window replacements, but not for more complex jobs involving trim removal, etc. read more

Careful with this business, they don't fully honor warranties. My windshield developed a crack, so I had Bay City Replace the entire windshield. When Carlos was done, he told me their windshields were under warranty. One month later a new crack emerged starting from the side of the windshield. I call Bay City about a warranty repair, but this time he tells me warranties are only good if there are no indications of chips from impact, but that he'd "work with me," if anything was found. He comes over to inspect and finds a tiny scratch and says warranty isn't valid, but will knock off $30 if I have him do the repair again. Begins to explain that windshields aren't as strong as they used to be and are thinner and lighter, therefore more fragile. Is this guy legit or just passing shoddy material/service to make a buck? His idea of "working with me" was to take off $30? And he easily just walked away from the situation like it was nothing. This whole experience with Bay City doesn't sit right with me. I'm not using Bay City ever again, and I would recommend you use caution if you do. read more

I am apparently a COVID hermit so if I can solve a problem without having to use the phone that makes me very happy! I requested a quote from a few local companies to get a crack in my windshield replaced after a rogue pebble on the ggb flew at my face. Not only did Bay City auto glass reply to my inquiry right away with clear availabilities and pricing, their pricing was actually better than many of the competitors. I thought it was a longshot to try and get it repaired before we went out of town two days later but they were able to accommodate. I love that they come out to you and don't charge extra for that, plus this is one of the few places that handle repairs not just full windshield replacements. They gave me a pretty wide window for when they were stopping by but when I told them my garage was located a few blocks from my home they agreed to let me know 15 minutes in advance when they were on their way.
