A local gift shop that highlights local artists while still taking active steps to protect people from COVID through masking policy. I make it a ritual to get birthday, thank you, and holiday cards here that feel unique as well as art to frame that I know my friends will love. Are the price points higher than average? maybe - but i appreciate paying people a livable wage for their work. Also as someone who masks strategically in public settings I'm VERY appreciative of the masks and store policy regarding masking. It's a small space and I don't want to be breathing in your breath. Twice I have walked by Bay-Made without stopping in to see what was appealing to my eyes. I was on the outside looking in. Well, third time is a charm and I decided to walk in and browse. It is a business selling creative merchandise made by local artists, and an art gallery. Since I am only in the Lakeshore Shopping District once a month to pay my landline bill at AT&T, I definitely will make a pit stop at Bay-Made next month to purchase a few greeting cards and stationery paper. The art gallery/gift shop not only carries art supplies but also greeting cards, incense, handcrafted jewelry, paintings (watercolor and oil), etc. I love the charm it offers. The canvas totes are a must have for grocery shopping or any type of shopping. I have a few old totes that are getting worn from at least 10 years of usage. It's high time I get at least one or two of these canvas totes. I haven't checked out the prices on the totes, but I figure it is a worthy investment and being kind to the environment. Yes, a few more return visits to this small business would do my wonders and put a smile on my face. LOL. read more

I absolutely adore this local shop. For every birthday or occasion that needs a present I head over to Bay-Made. Recently, I was able to put together a gift basket for my 10 year old niece from some of the stationary supplies they have. I really appreciate the selection of handmade goods from local artists and for that, I believe the prices are fair. The gal who owns the place is super nice, helpful and makes every experience pleasant. I appreciate the mask policy and that safety is a priority. Another fun gift shop in a cute area. This one features all items made locally and has a very eclectic collection of items... from art to pottery to chocolate to coffee to jewelry to candles. I love that they were also advertising workshops and kids classes so you could release your creativity and learn something new. Great spot to buy something local for yourself or as a gift. read more

I came to the Bay/Oakland area to visit with friends. When I travel I love trying to find local art, jewelry etc for myself and others (esp as a thank you for my petsitter back home)...this place was perfect! The pricing was super reasonable and the artwork had a little something for everyone. I walked away feeling great with all local made - cards ($6), print artwork ($20), turquoise ring ($36!?), treats like brittle ($13)...and more. Seriously, if you are looking for some locally made gems from soaps, bags and jewelry, to art, cards, and journaling supplies - this place has you covered! The owner was in and she and her staff were super friendly, helpful and patient with my indecisiveness. The shop even had some of the artist (who owns the shop! And staff who were there) own artwork for purchase, which was super cool. And somewhat special and rare from my experiences visiting local-made shops around the world. The shop kitty was a nice bonus. To top it off, as someone who interfaces with several family and friends who are immunocompromised, I felt so safe with their mask policy! If you don't have one, they still have them for you - and they are even kind enough to actually ask people to wear them (in case you miss the lighthearted signs). 11/10 must go - and the bakery on the block is good followup. :) enjoy read more

Cute little shop with wonderful local products! Definitely worth a visit for your holiday shopping and more. It's a small shop but they limit customers to two at a time so i felt very safe. I've discovered some of my favorite artists (Heather Ihn Martin, Jen Oaks and more) under this roof, and from what I understand, this shop is owned and operated by local artists who personally curate the collections and hold workshops outside of when we're facing a global pandemic. I also personally love the overall feel and design of the shop, and as a fellow artist and someone who works in retail/creative merchandising, that's saying something. Please give this shop a visit when you can, whether it's in person (safely) or online - you won't regret it, and you'll be supporting the local indie scene and keeping your dollars within the community vs. in one Jeff Bezos' offshore accounts. This shop is a cat-lovers paradise! Local art, beautiful homewares, and no shortage of cute cat items. I got a few cat stickers that look like my Lee and some lighters that have a buxom red-head and again, another cat that looks like my Lee. The shop girl was so nice and gave me info on their upcoming classes that I can't wait to take. Last night I attended a print making class at Bay-Made, a store in Oakland that features various art, jewelry, paper goods and ceramics made by local artists. The owner of the store also teaches classes in the evenings - intro to drawing and printmaking. The printmaking Class was amazing - we each decided what we wanted to have on our cards and then drew out the template, then traced it onto a rubber stamp and carved out the negative space. Then we spread paint on the stamp and pressed it onto thick paper cards. We got to leave with our handmade stamp and 10+ cards and envelopes! So cool! I definitely want to take the class again and make a different design! Highly recommended! read more

When I travel, I look to support local artists and am grateful to find a one-stop shop that sells so much local artists' work--from notecards, to prints, jewelry, succulents in concrete pots, and even honey. The proprietor, Sarah, is engaging, loves Oakland, and is committed to the arts. She knows the artists and can tell you a bit about them and their work. I've gone twice, because I brought my friend back to shop. They take cards/cash and can securely wrap your purchase for traveling home. I love the international women's day silkscreened 1992 original prints. We ended up purchasing three. We also purchased notecards featuring key Oakland landmarks. If you want unusual earrings, enameled pins, and other jewelry, this is the spot. The prices are fair and directly benefit local artists. I absolutely LOVE Bay-Made, from the staff to the workshops to all the handmade goods. This is the first place I think of when I need to purchase a gift for someone. Even during covid, they have been able to support local artists by continuing to sell gift boxes online. I think the price is worth it because I want to be able to support the artists in the community and I know that a lot of time and effort went into their work. This is also a great place to go for souvenirs for people who come to visit the Bay Area! I am in love with this little shop! For starters, it's in such a wonderful space, with great lighting and so well laid out. I love the breadth of artists and products on display. The art is really nice, especially the oil paintings and there is a section for gifts which is nice as well. great new addition to the Lakeshore.
