Cesar was neat, quiet, and unobtrusive, and cleaned up the work site at the end of each day. We hope we'll never need such repairs again, but if we do, we would want Cesar to do the work!

After my insurance company caused complications that led to First Call terminating the job which I understood, I received an invoice in May of last year. I paid that balance in full with two separate checks within two weeks. I have the receipts, the copies of the checks, and the bank statements showing exactly when First Call cashed them. After a full year of zero communication, I woke up today to a voicemail and email threatening to send me to collections within 48 hours. They claimed they had been "trying to reach me" for 12 months, which is untrue. I checked my call logs and my email history; there was absolutely nothing. When I called and provided my proof of payment and the exact dates they cashed my checks, they admitted the "error" was simply because someone forgot to check a box in their system. It is incredibly stressful and offensive to have your credit threatened because a company can't be bothered to check their own bank deposits before sending out threats. As a veteran, I live by a standard of integrity and doing your due diligence. Relying on a "checked box" as the Bible instead of doing actual research is lazy and unprofessional. Do better, not just for your customers, but for the reputation of the guys out there doing the actual work.

They asked me some questions over the phone, and after determining that I saw pretty visible signs of mold, they recommended I hire a testing to determine what type of mold it was so they could take appropriate action. They had a recommendation of who to call. The testing involves collecting air and other samples and doing moisture readings to see if got example there was a leaky pipe or something which was the source, there wasn't. After getting testing, they determined what type of mold it was and determined it didn't spread to all over the house. Their technician, came by do an inspection and gave an estimate. Their team removed base boards and were able to clean all visible signs of mold in the closet, they also put commercial grade dehumidifiers to remove any remaining moisture from the area so whatever spores wouldn't spread. We didn't get testing after the cleaning, but it seems like they did a good and efficient job. I can't comment on if the price was reasonable or not, but can say we think it was worth it to prevent that mold from spreading all over our house.

When we informed him that our travel schedule would delay their start until June, he was flexible. His team's thorough mold/ moisture remediation (removing the old moldy vanity, damaged moldy wallboard, and floor tiles) was completed in a week The remediation quickly received Satisfactory test results from SAFE, the environmental testing agency we independently hired. The restoration work then moved well with the replacing of sheet rock on the wall (where mold/moisture had been) but the laying of the replacement floor tiles was stalled when the team discovered that those tiles were slightly too short of matching the original 24"x12" floor tiles. To stick to our budget, we had opted to get the tiles on our own, not realizing that brands can differ in their tile sizing. It was a broken pipe. I called three companies for estimates. One estimator wanted me to lowball the estimate for number of square feet of floor space in the house for a better price. The other gave a low ball bid, but wanted 50% of the bid price up front at signing, which is illegal. And then ServPro came through with a upfront estimate that met our needs. They did the job quickly , professionally, and took excellent care of the tenant. However, as with any job , Murphy's Law can always put a glitch in the process. This was a relatively small incident, but I was told emergency services were needed immediately. Before receiving any meaningful explanation of the scope of work, I was sent a contract stating that there would be a minimum of $2,500 in charges. Two technicians arrived around 11:45 p.m. and left less than two hours later. They set up two dehumidifiers and four fans. (Later found out these emergency services cost $2500, NOT including any other work. 2 dehumidifiers and 4 fans!) On Monday, the project coordinator provided an estimate for over $8,000. When I requested an itemized breakdown, I found discrepancies that made me very uncomfortable: the estimate listed the wrong number of fans, several line items were unclear, and there was a $500 waste-removal charge for less than 50 square feet of drywall. They also billed 6.5 hours of technician "drive" time. The estimate appeared to bill for communication with insurance as well. Do not use Dry Kings if you want fair, transparent non-predatory service. Get an independent assessment and demand an itemized estimate before signing anything.

Many of the companies said they didn't have anyone available, and 1-800 WATER DAMAGE was out of the first to respond. I didn't know 1-800 WATER DAMAGE are franchises of a larger company, but so far I had a good first impression. They sent one of their Project Managers Angel Torres to do an assessment. He came when he said would, was very friendly and explained things in a clear manner. After they sent a quote, I felt comfortable proceeding with them. Before an insurance adjuster could do their assessment, Angel came before to setup high grade dehumidifiers and air filters and do a hard surface cleaning. Angel also offered to be around with when the insurance adjuster came in case there were any questions he could help offer, I don't know if that's a common practice but Angel seemed sincere. Angel was very thorough in documenting/phographing every part of the process. He also offered to talk and explain things with my tenant, which I know helped put my tenant's mind at ease, most times the vendor doesn't bother talking to the tenants and leaves that to the owner/landlord to do, so my impression is that was above and beyond. Angel estimated the job would take 4-7 business days, I think his team did it in 5. While I'm sure they probably deal with bigger scale jobs than mine, Angel and his team were very responsive to my needs and my tenant's needs. I had a leak from my ceiling from the upstairs neighbors' dishwasher flooding. Ed came to check out the leak and put a fan to dry out the ceiling. When we found out the building had insulation instead of bedrock, Sara and team came to do the mold and wetness inspection. They were very considerate of my kitchen/dining area space, installing a tent to contain the dust, and moving my furniture and household items gently out of the way. After they cut holes for inspecting mold, and then patched the areas with dry wall, I did not like how textured they patched the ceiling. It was very obvious which areas of my ceiling got work done. However, Ed reassured me that the texture would be scraped down when they came back to do the paint. Indeed the texture was scraped down to match my existing ceiling and after a few layers of paint, I couldn't even tell that work had been done to my ceiling! Sara and another worker were very good about showing me the work/progress along each step, confirming that I was happy with the work, explaining the demolition and what they found, and also tidying up my kitchen/dining area when they were done with the demo/patching/painting. I loved how quick they worked, how responsive they were, and the end result.
