Selected Bay Valley from 2 BayREN approved insulation contractors and a non BayREN contractor. The BayREN approved contractors generally offer better price because you get the additional rebate, which they will apply for you. Professional and efficient, the two installers were in and out in 2 afternoons. Added spray cellulose insulation to attic and exterior walls. The house has wood siding in front and stucco on remaining three sides. They were the only one willing to drill hole through the exterior wood siding in front and patch. They also paint if owner provides the paint. The other two contractors said they had to drill holes from inside the house (oh no, we had just patched out walls after the electrical work). So far looks like house is staying cooler in warm afternoons. We shall see this winter! read more

Team of 4 guys they are experienced and know what to do. Joel-estimator,Guy-answers the phone, Tony and Henry do the insulation work. They are great team. I had my external walls insulated and they used cellulose to fill making 1.5 inch holes between the studs. Then they use a cork foam type backing to put in the holes as a vapor barrier and close it with stucco patch. Then comes the texture followed by primer. And if you provide them your matching paint they will color the patches too. They are nice and simple folks and easy to work with. I called 3 insulation companies. I have a small 2 bedrooms house, an old 1910 craftsman with 0 insulation in the wall. Joel came by on-time, he is so knowledgeable on old houses!! To me- that alone is priceless. he explained the whole process carefully and in details. He didn't try to upsale me- he is very honest- he offered what I needed. Star point! We scheduled the work 2 weeks in advance for 11 am-2 pm slot. The guys didn't show up till 2:15 pm. I understand sometimes you cannot predict how long a job can take, every house is different. They guys wrapped up by 8 pm, unfinished. We needed to schedule another day. They left the work site clean, as if there wasn't any constructions earlier in the day. Star point! We rescheduled a week later. No show. They were delayed at another site. So we rescheduled to the next day for arrival before 2 pm. They came at 2:15 pm and finish by 6 pm. Guy always on top of communications. Shuffling calendar to make this work. I really appreciate it. Tony and Henry- these guys got skills! Check out the photos. You can't tell where they drill holes. They are very polite and soft spoken too. Summary: check the walls around your house inside, outside and underneath sinks for cracks and holes. Patch them up before these guys come. Bay Valley did attic and walls insulation in my house. I've been looking to do that for a while and talked to several contractors. I selected Bay Valley because they were recommended by BAYREN (more on that below), their price was competitive, their estimator Joel was very knowledgeable and helpful, and the way they insulate walls was (in my opinion) much better than what others do. They drill holes in the walls from the outside thus there is no need to move your furniture and paint walls inside. Once they filled wall cavities with insulation, they patched them, applied texture spray to match existing texture and painted over. All I had to do was to provide a quart of wall paint and do a little cleanup around the house. As I mentioned they're a BAYREN contractor. BAYREN is a local organization that promotes energy efficient upgrades (https://www.bayren.org/). They have advisors with whom you can discuss your projects and they maintain a list of registered contractors. If you do a project with a BAYREN contractor, you can also get a rather sizable rebate. It does involve a few extra steps but Guy Roth at Bay Valley and his stuff made the process easy for me. They made arrangements for an inspection, submitted rebate documents and stayed on top of things until I received the rebate check. Also note that price of BAYREN contractors is not at all higher than unaffiliated contractors. I wanted to insulate our home, and take advantage of the rebates from BayREN. The first three contractors I called came out, barely looked at the house, and gave me really outrageously high bids. I got the feeling they really didn't want the job. I was going to give up on insulating our home when someone recommended Bay Valley. Their team came out, looked over the house very thoroughly, and gave a more reasonable bid than the other contractors. They were easy to work with and did good work. We needed retrofit wall insulation and after checking around all the listings through AngiesList, Yelp, and others, we found that only Bay Valley and SDI does retrofit wall insulation work. We went with Bay Valley because the price was reasonable and they responded quickly and promptly. Joel was our estimator and he came out promptly at the time and date indicated. He was thorough and thoughtful on how he approached the job, not overselling or recommending things we didn't need. We live in an older house and he appreciated the home and looked for the most non-invasive method to take care of our un-insulated exterior walls. Bay Valley's approach is to come in from the exterior walls with the typical 2-hole process (high/low) to blow in the cellulose insulation. They sent two guys in and despite a couple snags in the job, they finished the job in one full day. Afterwards, they plugged the holes, textured and primed, and the next day came in to paint (our-supplied) paint. I was really amazed how well and seamless it all looked afterwards. They did a good job cleaning and even moved the cabinets in the garage back where they originally were. The real result? The mornings have been a little bit warmer than last week, but so far the heater has barely turned on over the past couple days. The house already feels warmed and less temperature fluctuations. We already got brand-new attic insulation last Fall, but the wall insulation really did the trick. A definite recommend to anyone who needs a good team to do insulation in their home. read more

Ended up using this company. Fair paricing. Quick and efficient insulation. We prepared and cleaned the attic before the staff arrive so no hassle to fill in the forms. We insulated about 30% more then they recommended. The wall insulation took a long time, stayed pass 7pm. They drilled the holes outside, filled in evenly from top down, painted and sanded. I provided the paint. I have high expectations but I would like to said they did a great job! 9 out of10. The only problem was the front porch was not part of our insulation plan. The staff accidentally filled this corner. We ended up pay additional $100 after the negotiation with the boss after the job. Results: house is much warmer in winter. Constantly at 64-67 degress without turn on the heater/AC. I've a nest thermostat. Noise from outside, airplane in particular has decreased a little. In a few days, Tony and Henry showed up with all the right materials and worked very fast and skillfully on a very hot day to blow R44 cellulose into the attic of my 70 year old rancher. Joel from Bay Valley came in to estimate the cost of insulation for our home. He was very honest by clarifying that the year our home was built, we already have wall insulation. He also recommended additional insulation instead of removing and adding since it doesnt make any difference. He very patiently answered all my questions on site and through follow up emails. They messed up the scheduling and had to reschedule to come back, but they did a great job completing the work. We definitely see the difference in our energy bills after the insulation work was done. The best part was that, since the company works with PGE to inspect the energy efficiency of homes, we were eligible for PG&E rebate once the insulation work was done. read more

I also checked areas of the walls, and so far, I have not seen any areas that Bay Valley Insulation missed. I am really pleased with the service I received from Bay Valley Insulation. Joel was the salesman. He was very knowledgeable, stated exactly what we needed to get done, let us know about the rebates. Henry and Tony were the installers. They knew just what to do. You can't see where the holes were drilled for the wall installation. They cleaned up at the end of each day. So my first 1 star review.. Well deserved since he Literally Peeled out of my driveway, and no I'm not exaggerating I called for a 1pm estimate, and an estimator Joel, showed up 20 minutes early. Which is a good thing I guess, but he was a bit grumpy. However, since I was on my lunch break I had scheduled another Insulation estimation at 12:15pm (of course I always do a second estimate as I wasn't sure how much this should cost) and was just finishing up when Joe got there. I met Joe at the front door, told him he was early and I was still finishing up inside with someone else and that if he wouldn't mind, to wait 10-15 min so I could finish off with . He asked if he could start measuring outside the house and of course I let him do that. For the next 10 min or so I ran out to him and in to the other guy just to stay on top of things. As he went inside to measure things I pointed out where I wanted insulation, etc., During the course of the conversation all of a sudden he looked at me, said, "you know what, I'm outta here" and stormed off. I was with a friend who witnessed this, as he got in his truck, and literally peeled out of the driveway. My friend and I looked at each other in disbelief. Utterly shocked. We ultimately concluded that he didn't like the fact that there was someone else there also bidding on the job? Which I could understand is slightly uncomfortable, but I can't imagine him thinking he was the only one to bid on the job since he only had 1 yelp review I definitely wanted another one. I'm glad I did. So there you have it, my first well deserved 1 star review. read more

Another reviewer had a bad experience with Joel but I found him to be completely professional and helpful. I had a lot of questions and during our conversation, I mentioned that when I got my air ducts cleaned, the company told me that my furnace hasn't been serviced in a while and it would cost me thousands to replace it. According to them, my furnace was unsafe and unhealthy to run. So, for a year, I left the heater off and we were freezing! We used space heaters constantly which caused our utility bill to rise. That's when I decided to get my house insulated. As I told this story to Joel, he suspected that the air duct company may have tried to sell me a new heater to make more money. He offered to take a look at it which I really appreciated because it wasn't part of his job. He spent some time tinkering with it and thought it looked fine. He also informed me that PG&E has a free inspection service. I'm so glad he told me about that because after PG&E confirmed my heater was fine and in working condition, I began using my central heating again. With the added wall insulation and central heating, we've been able to keep our electricity bill down. I really have to thank Joel for going above and beyond his job description and educating me about insulation and for taking a look at my heater. read more

Bay Valley come out and gave us a quote for insulation, it was competitive but we didn't do any insulation at that time. Called them again a year later to get an updated quote and they said they'd still do it at the same price, yay! At first, the main reason I went with them is because they will attempt to retexture the walls of your house when they patch the insulation holes, which most companies won't even try. So you don't end up with smooth polka dot patches on your stucco/siding. I'm sure you've seen those houses, they look so silly and it costs an arm and a leg to get a paint company out to retexture and repaint! BVI doesn't guarantee perfect blending but I can say standing 5 feet away from the house you would never notice the patched areas - the retexturing is definitely good! Also they told us about a PGE rebate program we qualified for. I'd heard of that program but didn't think we'd qualify (we were doing walls and ceiling). Guy explained the whole thing and we signed on. It's more money up front for the 3rd party energy company to come do testing before and after, but then we got double that back in the rebate! BVI was so thorough and even came back to do extra work to close some air leaks they saw under doors and such, which ensured that we passed the energy check with flying colors and got a great rebate (and made the house less drafty - I didn't even realize we had those drafts until they were gone). The temperature in the house is very stable now, the heat or cold stays inside regardless of the temperature outside. The heater or AC used to come on all the time because the house leaked air like crazy. Now we barely run them and it stays comfortable in the house. Plus we got a great rebate which made it cost less than we thought going in! BVI was awesome all the way. read more

I must admit I was vey apprehensive when I read peter's review, but I decided to call them anyway. Joel was the one who stopped by and he was very helpful. He gave me a quote and I told him that I'd need some time to think about it and that I'd call them when I was ready. He was very understanding of my situation and the initial experience was very pleasant. After a couple of weeks of not doing anything, I called a couple of other places and it turned out that bay valley's quotes were indeed comparable to the others. I then called them back and asked if there was any way that they could come down on the price and it turned out that they had a fall special promotion under way. The new price was something that worked for me and I decided to get it done. The installation guys showed up on Friday, when my wife was at home, and they seem to have done a thorough and complete job. I got back home and went into the attic and I saw plenty of insulation (7 inches or so like the original quote mentioned) and it was all installed very professionally. They also dropped off the paper work that i need to claim the pge rebate. Have no reservations in giving these guys 5 stars. read more

I hired Bay Valley to insulate the attic and walls of my town home, since there was little existing attic insulation and no wall insulation. Joel gave me a fast and efficient estimate, which I compared with a couple of other firms. The price quoted was good and I like doing business with local Fremont firms, whenever I can. The two-man crew arrived right on schedule and launched into the job immediately. They were very friendly and congenial. They paid attention to detail and used good materials. The job took about 3.5 hours, including a very thorough job of patching the exterior stucco and painting it with matching paint that I provided. The stucco patching was perfect and they also did a thorough job of cleanup, when they were done. At the time I paid the exact quoted price, I got the needed paperwork for a fat rebate from PG&E. I have subsequently recommended Bay Valley to two neighbors of mine and their experiences mirrored my own. Joel came and did an estimate for us today. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable and delightfully honest. I previously had another company come out and give me an estimate. That company wanted to charge ~$4,000 to remove existing attic insulation and add R38. They also wanted to charge ~$3,000 to add wall insulation. Joel inspected my attic and told me the insulation was actually R30 already and looked to be in good condition. He didn't recommend adding any more. Joel also inspected the walls and it turns out it already had insulation in them. THANK YOU Joel for being so honest and saving us a ton of money! Professional, courteous and quick. We had insulation blown into the exterior walls of our 50+ year old Eichler. The entire job took about 4 hours, and included patching and painted over the holes they made to blow in the insulation! Since then, we have had a cold spell and a heat wave. The house has maintained a comfortable temperature. The utility bill is also about 40% less. This improvement will pay for itself by the end of the year. The original price was very competitive. The two persons who came and did the job were great... they were friendly and made sure that any areas where insulation could get in the house were sealed up. I had no problem with the estimate process and decided to use Bay Valley to insulate my attic and walls. I had only planned to insulate the attic, but went with the walls too when Joel explained the hefty PG&E rebate available now and how the crew would go about doing the work. Recently we had the Bay Valley. insulation insulate our attic. Tony and another gentleman came out to do the job. They did an excellent job in insulating our attic. Not only did they do an excellent job but they were courteous, friendly, very conscientious, and extremely neat. They spent at least four hours and it was extremely hot in the attic but they did not complain once about anything. They were also very reasonable with their price. After they finished their job, we could tell immediately that the house improve at least 40% in remaining at a constant temperature regardless of what the weather is outside. I will never use this company again. They did a duplex for us and shook the entire building so much that they knocked out the electricity. Before we agreed on the job, they told us they would work with the tenant to minimize any inconvenience but after they got the job, they proceeded to ignore the tenant's concerns & complaints . They were extremely loud and shook the entire building to the point that everything fell off of the interior walls and had the tenant running outside for fear of her safety. When they knocked out the electricity they basically said it is not their problem and quickly finished, packed and left. They never inquired about all the damage they created or even offer to help the tenant. Very unprofessional and time will tell the quality of their work. read more

The estimator arrived at the scheduled time and explained various aspects of insulation to us. He gave us a reasonable estimate. Some time later we called in to make an appointment to get the insulation work done. We setup an appointment that was a couple of weeks later. The appointment co-ordinator, perhaps the owner, agreed to call me back in case any other slots opened up. About a week before the appointment, I received a call at noon informing me about a slot that had opened up for that afternoon. The co-ordinator said that the workers can make it to my home between 3:30pm-5:30pm if I agreed to the reschedule. I agreed to the reschedule after speaking to my manager and rescheduling my appointments with others. I was happy so far, because this firm accommodated us and that meant one less week of temperature related discomfort at home. Little did I know that the things were going to be downhill from here. After waiting till end of the arrival window, I called up the co-ordinator at 5:30pm. He was surprised that the workers were not there. He assured me that the workers would reach my place any minute. He added that workers call ahead if it is more than 10 minute delay. He passed on the cell phone number of one of the workers. I called the cell phone and no one picked up. At 6pm, I received a call back from the worker saying that they just finished working at a place that was about an hour away. I decided to get the work done anyways since I had given half my day to it. 15 minutes later the person called again and said that they would not be able to make it that day. He offered to take down a special appointment for the coming Saturday with an arrival time of 10:30-11am. I accepted the re-scheduled after assurance from the worker that they will be on time. I emphasized the fact that we had to meet someone later on Saturday and wouldn't like to be late. I called up the co-ordinator on Saturday morning 10:30am to cross-check if they remembered my appointment. I also told him that we had to go meet someone later in the afternoon and didn't want to spend the whole day waiting. The co-ordinator was surprised to hear that the workers hadn't reach my place already. He reassured that workers will make it by 11am. I put down the phone and began to wait. 15 minutes later I received a phone from the co-ordinator that the workers were packing up the stuff from office and will be leaving any minute. He then said that all workers were up late in the night fixing some machines. (I don't know where that came from). He assured that it will take only 30 minutes to get to my place. He confirmed that the workers should be at our place no later than 45 minutes from then. I should have guessed, but they didn't make it by 11:30am either. At about 12:15pm, someone called me saying that they just got onto the freeway and will reach our home soon. That was my moment of quick analysis: The co-ordinator has no clue where the workers are or whether they can make it to an appointment. The workers, don't bother to return calls and don't understand the concept of keeping time. The workers don't have the courtesy to inform the customers ahead if they are going to be late. Note that they do keep a wide window in the first place. Given the unprofessional behavior by everyone in the firm, I wasn't sure if they would do a good job or if they would listen to me in case something wasn't done correctly. I told the person on phone (on the freeway) that I wasn't interested in getting work done anymore. read more

While one drilled holes on my exterior wall, one was blowing in R-13 insulation. They were done in 4 hours. They patched up the holes and even painted them (I supplied the paint). I can't even tell where the holes are anymore. I am very please with my experience with them. Everyone was friendly, experienced, professional and down to earth. No BS experience.
