What a great experience! For my birthday, my wife asked for a table with a view. We were seated at the middle of 3 window tables...incredible view of Bodega Bay as we dined at sunset. Adding to the ambience was a live piano player who busted out a Happy Birthday on the ivories during our dessert. The bread was meh, but the sun dried tomato relish(?) that went with it was outstanding. Full bar and cocktails were available, and the wine list was solid. I got the soup taster to start. Mushroom/Spinach soup was decent, heavy on the spinach. Crab bisque was decent, not bad, but I've had better. The French Onion stole the soup show. It was excellent!! My wife got the Seafood Pasta. Large portion and flavorful sauce. They were generous with the seafood as well. A couple full scallops and noticeable amounts of crab, shrimp and lobster. My main was the Ribeye, cooked as I ordered with a tasty Demi-glacé and a veg medley cooked perfectly al dente. My one knock was the Ceasar salad. The added grilled shrimp were a generous quantity & the dressing had a mustard kick that we both liked . The problem was there was just too much of it! After a few bites the Romaine was swimming in it, and everything was a soggy mess. I would suggest ordering the dressing on the side to manage the application.. Peach Cobbler and the lava cake were both solid dessert options. But the 5-starriest component of this great experience was the service. We booked Thanksgiving dinner here as we were staying in property for the holiday. We had a late seating at 7:30PM and it wasn't crowded at all by then. The food options ranged from traditional holiday to their standard menu items. Nice variety. The stuffing on my traditional dinner wasn't my fave. It was very moist and I prefer mine more crisp. Turkey was great - light and dark meat were served. Gravy was nice and the cranberry sauce was good too. Whole berries which is my fave. My wife had the stuffed sole and said it was quite good. Nice staff, but horribly disorganized. Food went out to tables who got there 30 minutes after we ordered. Another table next to us waited well over an hour for their food as well. But then some tables got their food quickly. We were kept being told that 'food was coming' but never actually came until we got the manager involved. The tab should have been significantly comped since it was our wedding anniversary, but instead the offered free dessert (after telling us half the dessert menu 'wasn't available'). We liked the piano, but 90 minutes waiting for food in a small restaurant is unacceptable. We might go back - the live music and ambiance was really nice. read more

i attended the Bayview restaurant last week with friends. We were seated and warmly welcomed with fresh baked bread! It was absolutely delicious. The butter mrlted into the bread immediately. Heaven! We were treat like family by the staff who knew the menu and were so very helpful and kind. The appetizers were delicious, the entrees cooked to perfection. Then the desserts... absolutely divine! I'm not one to usually complain but we had a 6:30pm reservation because it was highly recommended via the resorts website. We arrived on time to be seated with only 2 other tables occupied. We ordered appetizers and a few moments later another waitress came to the table and said I'm sorry but we are out of the crab stuffed mushrooms. Note that these are listed on the daily chefs specials at a Saturday evening 6:30 seating. We were then offered a suggested substitute. A delicious dinner was served and then desert was something we looked forward to. When we ordered I asked for the Strawberry panna cotta and then moments later another waitress comes over to say I'm sorry but we are out of that dessert just as I can hear other people ordering it. The hostess did come over to apologize and comp the desert option but does that make it all better? I just don't know, sounds like poor preparation & communication for the early seating at a nice resturant on a Saturday night to me! read more

Dined here for the first time with my wife. Anna was the manager and was very welcoming the second we arrived. Jessica was our server who made us feel like we were the only table in the restaurant. I ordered the Hitchcock filet and my wife ordered the Halibut special. Both dishes were seasoned well and cooked properly. We had such a great time, we came back the next morning for breakfast and were even more impressed. The chef is Filipino and made traditional chicken adobo, pork longanisa, eggs sunny side up, garlic rice, and the best Dungeness crab lumpia we have ever had. We also ordered the Maine Lobster roll that was amazing. Chef also spoiled us with Turon (a Filipino dessert) that rivaled the best I've had. Before we left, Anna, Jessica, and Chef all made us feel as if we were leaving a family members home. It was truly the best culinary experience we have been apart of. Highly recommend. read more

We had heard that the Bay View restaurant at The Inn at the Tides had reopened. We took a ride out to the coast last Thursday night to try it. The service was good, the food was excellent. Between the regular menu and the evening specials we had a lot good options. The chicken Coq au vin was off the chart delicious! read more

Another fantastic meal at the Bay View Restaurant and Lounge. I have frequented the restaurant for years and have never had a bad experience. More recently, the partner and myself stayed at The Inn at the Tides for a weekend and had made reservations for Saturday night at 8. The restaurant is located inside the building of Inn check-in. Staff is very friendly, and pianist amazing. Upon our arrival, we were greeted and seated by the Manager, and served by Mary. I ordered the 2 specials--a salad with tomatoes, mozzarella with a vinaigrette, and a spinach fettuccine with prosciutto, peas, and mushrooms in a cream sauce. My handsome counterpart ordered the Grilled Filet Hitchcock--a filet mignon stuffed with Dungeness crab, and Béarnaise sauce, served with mashed potatoes and baby spinach. We don't drink alcohol, but we did have Sierra Mist and Diet RC Cola. The chef sent out these two little appetizers that were interesting, but beautiful in presentation-- crostini with goat cheese, blueberries, a balsamic reduction and a walnut. I'm not a fan of goat cheese, but it was a nice gesture. We both really enjoyed our meals and the service we received during our visit. read more

Where do I begin!!! We were seated next to the fireplace as requested and asked for our drink order. They have a huge wine list for those that like wine. Our waiter immediately brought us bread and told us he would give us some time look over the menu. We ordered the cheese and prescutto appetizer, ceaser salad, regular salad and the filet stuffed with crab. Every single bit of our food was amazing!! Our server was excellent as he was the only waiter on duty it looked like. We had dinner on a Sunday because the restaurant is closed on Monday and Tuesday . The food was wonderful. The waiter was odd. This is supposed to be a high-class establishment but the waiter came to the table eating and chewed the whole time while talking to us. His vest was covered with white globs of something and he looked high. He ended up being a decent waiter otherwise. The rest of the staff were top notch and efficient. It was our anniversary and blips come with life but at the price, it really shouldn't. I do want to shout out to the backroom staff. Amazing!!! I've heard that it is hard to get good help in Bodega Bay, but I've never seen that at any other establishment in the area and we come here often. Can I give a 3.5? I still am a fan and we enjoyed our evening so I'll stick with a 4. And after 39 years, we all know it's never a picnic. read more

When compared to the other establishments in the area who can be stuffy, disinterested, or just bad at feeding folks, the Bay View Restaurant puts them to shame. It did not sound like a high school cafeteria. Instead we sat in respectful peace and enjoyed the nautical/Italian ambiance. We had a great view of the bay and their garden. We really enjoyed our food. I had and recommend, the clam chowder and swordfish. The staff made the evening comfortable. They made us feel welcome, they did not act like they were tired of tourists or couldn't wait to get off work. Both Brenden and Marcelino know their trade and made our time by the window memorable. Have eaten at most of the restaurants in Bodega Bay. For our Anniversary thought we would try somewhere new. Decor: similar bay style with dark wood walls with a nice exposed beam ceiling. It had a nice fire going in the fireplace. We were sat at a nice window table (4 or 5 of them) that provided a nice view of the bay. Drinks: There is a full bar, with a little bar area to sit. We started off with some Korbel Champagne to celebrate (not comped as they knew it was an anniversary) . They have a good Wine list in regards to by the bottle, by the glass it was mediocre and somewhat pricey for by the glass. Ordered a bottle of the Ferrari Corona Siena. After several minutes waiter came back and said they were out of that. Then ordered a 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander's Crown Vineyard. A great wine with only a $20 mark up at this restaurant. Food: We both ordered the special of the evening which was a prefix menu of rack of lamb. For the special it also came with a salad and desert. We started with a Crab Cake appetizer. It was two crab cakes that were simply that, it was a good traditional crab cake with not much filler. The salad was an Orange fennel salad. It was an interesting mixture that had an array of flavors. It was good with a mixture of flavors and cracked pepper. The Rack of lamb was good with a great reduction sauce. It was served with garlic mash potatoes that seemed to be light on the garlic which is preferred to an abundance of garlic often served. The dessert was an almond tort. Not to good, it had a raspberry middle and it was way to much like a jam. The strawberry on the plate was much tastier than to tort. I would pass this up next time. All in all, it was OK. I may eat back at the Duck club next time, I am looking to spend a lot of $$ for dinner in Bodega read more

This is my favorite restaurant. My family always comes here for special events. Love the ceasar salad prepared at the table. I loved the chicken, but when we went the other day it wasn't on the menu. I had the filet mignon instead and that was delicious. My sister and mom had the filet with crab and they said it was also good. 1st time to Bodega Bay, my friends decided to surprise me with a trip here to relax and enjoy the beautiful views to celebrate my birthday. My review is from what i personally experienced and saw, not what my friends had to experience on their end dealing and making sure i had a memorable birthday dinner. Sadly the restaurant experience left me with a lot more to be desired. The restaurant was not busy at all. Maybe 3 tables in service plus ours. 1. The waitress. She pretended to know what she was talking about with the menu, but clearly had no clue. She talked a lot of sh** and no game. She acted and spoke very conceited with a tone of this is a very 'high end restaurant'. She also said, "this is the best food I have ever had in my entire life." Really? was this necessary? We ordered 3 of Pork plates and one Salmon plate. She took our order and started taking about ingredients and sauces that we never saw on the menu for those dishes, we were a bit confused but hopeful our food to be as delicious as she had build it up to be. She also said "Oh yeah the pork is so tender you wont need a knife." 2. Our Drink Order We ordered one Dirty Martini, one Cosmo, and two Lemon Drops. She asked us if we wanted Martini glasses or tall glasses? I'm sorry what? I have never been asked what glass I want my drinks in. Duh of course its supposed to be in a martini glass! The bartender took a good 20min to actually get the drinks right. We could hear how many times he threw away our drinks and remake them, threw away and remake them. Where i come from we call this "alcohol abuse" lol .. How hard is to make these? 3. Food Finally we got our food about hour later.. When we got our food, it was wrong. Instead of Pork we got Veal! Food was sent back and asked that the Salmon plate be remade (only correct dish we got) so all 4 of us could eat together and still be fresh. 15-20 min later we got our food again and one of my friends pork plate was still raw. Pork not as tender as your waitress build it up to be, sorry I had to use a steak knife. My other friend who asked for the salmon to be remade of course wasn't, it was dry, flavorless. What they probably did was just kept it warm under some heat while the rest was remade. These people running this restaurant obviously fall short of understanding basic service. Dont let the $$$ signs full you, these people walk around with their noses up high and dont know how a truly $$$ restaurant really works: Service, Food Quality and overall Experience needs corporate attention. On a positive note: there was one young man who was refilling our water and bread, I didn't get his name. But waitress and restaurant manager should learn from him. His service was genuine, down to earth and attitude was what I had expected from a so called "high end restaurant". read more

As a recent part time resident of Bodega Bay, the Bay View was recommended as a destination for fine dining. Unfortunately, that was the last thing we experienced. Entryway: Though the decor in the dining room itself (which is what it looks like vs. a true restaurant) was fine with a wonderful view of Bodega Harbor, you have to walk through the hotel foyer/lobby that contained a lot of brochures/ "T-stands" with posters promoting things, etc.. It felt like one of those attractions where you have to exit through the gift shop. Waitress: Wearing goofy looking glasses, our young and seemingly inexperienced waitress was a big disappointment. After taking our drink orders, she came back 3 times within 15 min. to attempt to take our food reservation; each time not bringing our drinks (glasses of wine). Meanwhile, the table next to us was seated after us and received their drinks at least 5 min before we did and without having to ask the waitress to bring our drinks prior to taking our food order. In fact, she had the audacity to address my brother as "dude" when we were ordering our food. The Food: 1. Appetizer/Salads: Each of us had either an appetizer or a salad. Overall, they were good, not great. I had the crab cakes which were solid, but not spectacular, particularly being in a coastal town. 2. Entrees: Overall, these were overpriced ($25-$35) and underwhelming. My wife had the Rib-eye which tasted as if it was defrosted upon cooking. It was tough and lacked the flavor that one expects from the "king cut" of steaks. My Salmon was serviceable, but not spectacular and my brother and sister-in-law enjoyed their meals (I can't even remember what they ate and it was only 2 weeks ago) so obviously their meals were forgettable. 3. Overall Experience: Disappointing, overpriced and too bad as there are a limited number of fine dining locations in Bodega Bay (check out Terrapin Creek!) and we were looking forward to having another place to enjoy a fine meal. read more

What an absolute disaster of a restaurant. We came here on a Wednesday night for our first night bringing my mother in law to bodega bay. The restaurant wasn't our first, second or even third choice but the ones that are really enjoyable happen to be closed on Wednesday and Thursdays. Upon seating us at our table our server immediately asked would anyone care for a drink? We had no time to even look at the wine list or inquire about a cocktail menu. "Oh let me grab you a cocktail list I'll be right back". Upon returning we are asked again what would you like as the server hovers over us. We ordered a bottle of champagne which was brought out with no ice bucket. I impatiently waited for about 5-10 mins still no ice bucket brought out so once again I have to ask the server to bring us one. My meal was equally as bad as the overall service. I wanted the risotto but the chef was unable to mix a protein in it...wait what?? My father in law wanted the veal but we were told it's coming out tough and isn't very good. So is it the veal itself or the chef? Servers response I don't know maybe both....at that point I thought Ashton Kucher was going to show up as I was being punked. I ordered the chicken piccata which was awful, chicken was dry, mashed potatoes way over cooked and the spinach wasn't seasoned. I didn't want to send it back since I had no idea what might come out next. Overall just a brutal service, followed with some awful food made for a miserable yet comical dinner experience. Definitely old-school class. ATMOSPHERE: Nice exposed wood ceiling rafters, live piano music, a roaring fireplace, wait staff all wearing bow-ties and crisp white shirts, very old-world charm. Oh, and of course there's the view of the bay. That's pretty nice as well. SERVICE: Our waitress was pretty green. We ordered the Pinot Noir and she brought a bottle of Chardonnay to the table. When she came back with the right bottle, she giggled "I don't know anything about wine!". For a classy place like this, they should have a minimal understanding of wine. I mean, it IS Sonoma County after all. She did a fine job of taking our orders, and the water glasses were refilled regularly, but the service wasn't anything special. DINNER: Caesar salad for two prepared from scratch tableside is kinda fun, but at $18, it's a little pricey. In the end, as much as I enjoyed watching our waitress prepare everything, it was still just a Caesar salad. The NY Strip Loin steak was just about perfect. I asked for medium-rare and it came out a little on the rare side, but I much prefer they err that direction rather than over-cooking it. It was tender and flavorful and juicy and delicious. Get the steak. Wifey's salmon was pretty bad. The fish wasn't especially fresh, and the bernaise sauce was sticky sweet and gross. The potatoes that came with the fish were completely without seasoning. They tasted like the hashbrowns at Denny's, only soggier and without the salt. DESSERT: Skip it. The Creme Brulee was totally forgettable. The chocolate lava cake was overcooked (it's not lava cake if there's no gooey bit in the middle) and had too much flour. Tasted more like a cupcake. Oh, and the swirl of chocolate sauce drizzled around the plate? Hershey's syrup. Come on, how hard is it to make chocolate syrup? OVERALL: Looks like a classy place, and the food wasn't that bad, just a little overpriced. I'd say 2 and a half stars. read more

I honestly couldn't believe how terrible the service was.... We brought in a group of 8, fairly large, but nothing that can't be handled. We booked reservations for 5pm when they opened but waited at the bar until 5:30 because "they weren't ready for us to be seated yet"?! After being seated we ordered two very familiar bottles of wine and asked for one of them to be poured into all 8 glasses. The waiter insisted that we try them first after we politely asked two or three times for them to just be poured. After finally complying to try a glass first, he spilt the wine down the side of my glass, across the table, and onto the napkin that was thankfully covering my dress.. So we all order our food, he writes them all down, none of the orders were complicated or altered and a majority of us ordered the same thing. After he took all the orders, he stepped back and... read the list back to us!! I'm sorry, we're paying $40 a plate, this is not McDonalds! If you couldn't get the order the first time when you were WRITING IT DOWN, there is an issue! We all get our food except for two plates as the told us the steaks were over cooked. So the rest of us waited until our food was nearly cold for the other two plates to come out. Thankfully, the food was all delicious, and there were no real complaints other than having to wait on the two steaks. But once they came out, they were cooked perfectly! After dinner was cleared we ordered a bottle of port for the 8 of us. Anyone that knows port, knows that the bottles are really only big enough for about 8 glasses... Our server proceeded to tell us that they only sell it by the glass and not by the bottle so they were trying to figure out the pricing.... What?!! Again, how are you going to charge $40 a plate and then not sell port by the bottle?! Or at least know how much it would cost?! Regardless, seems like an easy fix... Charge us for 8 glasses, that's as far as the bottle is gonna go anyways. After waiting for 5 minutes while the waiter, bartender, and manager argued over it, finally, my husband went over and handled the situation. They brought us the bottle of port and 8 glasses, I watched as the waiter struggled to uncork the bottle. And then I voluntarily stood up, grabbed the bottle from him, and poured our own glasses so we didn't have to deal with the spilt wine and confusion... Long story short, this restaurant is way out of their league... Either they need to step up their game with their wait staff, or they need to drop their prices. Here we went out for a nice dinner, expected to be truly waited on, our bill was over $700, we were polite for a majority of the meal and I had to pour our own wine... We had the bitter chocolate lava cake and the trio of gelato. Both were so yummy and hit our sweet tooth just right. Decaf coffee was hot and fresh.
