Good food on the go. This is the perfect place to go if your are staying at the motel already. The spicy chicken sandwich was pretty good. I had to dock this place because of the burger. We stopped off for a bite to eat at Ocean Cove Bar and Grill and found it to be absolutely delightful. The service was so warm, friendly, generous. He really bent over backwards to serve with a smile. My 4yo enjoyed talking to him as much as we did. The food was delicious. I had the clam chowder and it was some of the best I've ever had- and I'm picky. It had a buttery taste to it that was truly delightful. It was a beautiful day in early March and we were able to comfortably sit outside on the deck which offered a stunning view. There's a glass igloo we could have sat in if it had been too windy. We stopped here on our way from Fort Bragg. The place was quiet. It had outdoor and indoor seating options. We have been going to Ocean Cove Restaurant, formally Salt Point Lodge. Yesterday we went to the bar for Bloody Mary's. We sat down at the bar for awhile. I had to get up and ask the server if there was a bartender. She said we needed to order at the register. Why didn't she acknowledge us when we walked in or when we were sitting there. The place wasn't busy. We watched her make the drinks. She started making them in short glasses. We told her they are made in tall glasses. She was sloppy and my husband couldn't even drink his because it was so full of pepper. Mine was different but it was so hot I had to wait for the ice to melt to dilute it. She never gave us napkins. The bar was dusty and disorganized. When we left the servers were no where to be seen. End of an era. We will never go back. From now one we will be going to Rivers End. read more

That feeling when you're hungry, see a restaurant, it's the only one for a few miles and so you decide to stop. Don't. Go somewhere worth your money. Friday night, the place wasn't even packed. We got seated but waited for 30mins before somebody even gave us a menu. First red flag there. We ordered shrimp alfredo and steak. Waited another while, no water, no drinks, no nothing. Everything was served all together after about 45mins in the restaurant. The shrimp alfredo tasted like it came out of a box. Shrimps weren't fresh and the sauce was more like soup than sauce. There was an attempt to cover the taste of not so fresh shrimp with cheese. It became a soupy gooey mess on top of fetuccine. It was eatable for someone really hungry. Let's now talk about the steak. I'll call it the steak from hell. Thin cut than a minute steak, not fresh, severely overcooked, by over cooked I mean it seemed reheated over and over because it takes them forever to get the orders and it becomes not leathery but something worse. I won't even feed it to a dog. Our total bill did not justify the whole experience. My advice is to drive down or up and do not stop here. read more

Pros: Really, surprisingly good fries. Well seasoned. Crinkle crust with chili powder and maybe a handful of other spices. Kinda reminded me of what you'd expect from a good 50's style diner. The cod po' boy wasn't bad either, and was definitely a large portion. The sandwich didn't say it came with fries so I almost ordered a side with it. Props to the cashier for letting me know I already got fries. Definitely a good value! Cons: I know space is limited with COVID-19, so we're limited to whatever patios we can find. Totally understandable. My issue is more than half the seating didn't really seem to be following safety protocols (lots of individual seats closely together) and the rules were lax for customers. I completely understand that the staff was all on the inside and we were all outdoors, but there wasn't really much enforcement of the six foot rule or people wearing masks in line. I generally think outdoor eating is safe in these situations, but not when people are entering my bubble to grab their food, without a mask, from the window I'm ordering from. I didn't stick around because I felt uncomfortable, which was a shame. I think the food was great and their value was awesome, but some enforcement during these trying times is important. I know the customers are mostly to blame, but sometimes you have to be the bad guy and enforce rules to make your other customers feel safe. read more

We just love this place. We wanted to give it 3 stars because the rooms are not perfect, BUT the staff here- Tim in particular- was outstanding, so we easily gave it 4. There are 2 adorable kitties on the property, Lenny & Lilly, that will keep you in good company! We got evacuated by the recent fires, had been camping all week and called Tim (with our 2 pups in tow) and he gladly gave us a room. We got a warm shower and slept so well. To accommodate the pups they have a great little fenced in area for them to run and use the restroom in. Unfortunately the bar and grill is closed due to COVID but they provide reasonable frozen breakfast and lunch/dinner options (basic stuff you can find at Costco) that was actually pretty tasty (for frozen stuff). If you have your own cooking devices, there's a (very small) store literally 60 seconds south that one can purchase food at to cook (on the porch). I love the tiles in the shower, and the fun seascape themed bedding. They have an option of a hot tub room upstairs which we want to look into in the future. For now, we can see the ocean from our bed and are very happy here. Thank you for a great stay. read more

Green salad was a bit small for the price. Service met expectations, but food so far exceeded. This restaurant is attached to the ocean cove Lodge. She then stopped short and turned her back on me. Their menu listed a hamburger for $16. Go to Coast Kitchen for a Wagyu burger for the same price. Its nearby. This place does not deserve your money. This place used to be amazing. Meet the owner last summer. Super friendly guy and the food was great. Went there on 5/7/23. The guy taking our order was a total jerk. He obviously hates working there. Not sure how he made employee of the month? Probably made then it himself. Our buzzer went off so a few went inside to pick up our food. The rude guy at the counter yelled at them and said he didn't know why the buzzer went off and he would bring our food to us. The fish tacos had a dusting of chopped fish, calamari were cut into straps and the fish sandwich was rubbery. Will be a long time before we go back. We love this place. Stopped in on accident on our way to our rental in Sea Ranch and they were great. We ended up going back (out of our way) the next night for dinner and drinks, with friends, even though Gualala was a lot closer. We ate at the bar so we had a great view of the sunset and the whales, but really there isn't a bad seat in the house for the view. They have a small stage and musical instruments on the walls. My husband couldn't resist talking shop and they let him take a couple of fine guitars down and play a bit. The local wine that we got both times, was excellent. As was the beer. Small menu, but excellent. Atmosphere and service are excellent. Classy place but they make you feel part of the family. Just disappointed we had to miss Comedy night, Saturday night, cuz we had to come home. Comedy night was with name comedians, free, and all money for drinks and food went towards the cleanup of Ocean Cove. There is a creek that via waterfall falls over the cliff onto the beach at Ocean Cove and they had a landslide/cave-in/calving event recently. It's still beautiful though. Both the waterfall and the cliffs and beach. It just exposed some of the large hard rock slabs underneath. I forgot to mention that their Wi-Fi is good you just have to ask for the password. So we were able to finally make a phone call to our friends who had already checked in at Sea Ranch. read more

That's $6 for four medium sized shrimp that were not even on the salad but came as an afterthought in a separate dish, dressing was heavy tasting with little acid. Side of fries turned out the thinnest, cheapest frozen Cisco crinkle cut fries I've ever seen. Muscles and clams were good, nice and zesty and not too butter/heavy tasting. Out the door it was $100 meal, with two pints and I kept thinking I can't believe we paid that much for such mediocre quality. read more
