Love this restaurant. The owner is freaking awesome and is a great restaurant owner. The staff are friendly and can handle providing good service in a fast paced restaurant. This is the place you want to go if you're ever in the area.And if you're not, go visit the golf course and then stop at northwood for a bite to eat. After playing 9 holes we sat down on the outside patio for lunch. My son ordered pancakes and I ordered the bacon cheeseburger. The pancakes were huge and my son liked them. The bacon cheeseburger with American cheese was excellent, the fires were tasty also. Service was good. read more

Beautiful restaurant on the golf course with a view of the first tee. Came for brunch at 10am on a Thursday. Sat outside with perfect weather in August. Ordered the chicken fried steak ($18). Huge portion of perfectly seasoned steak. Come with 2 eggs and hash browns, country potatoes, or salad. The gravy was amazing. Also had the artichoke, bell pepper, and onion omelet ($17) note: it does Not come with cheese. I didn't mind since I was trying to be somewhat healthy, but I think its like $2 to add it on. read more

A total surprise! Not your country club golf restaurant! Casual, rustic. Had a giant fireplace in the middle, with strings of lights down the roof supports. Neon flashing sign over the bar. Paintings and photographs from floor to ceiling -eclectic local artist. I have lived in Sonoma County. since 1978 and passed this restaurant on my drive to/from the coast more times than I can count. I've always wondered about it and today we finally stopped to check it out. Its charm comes from being nestled amongst the redwoods, on a golf course that we learned to be pretty famous, with an interior that screams ski lodge comfortable. There wasn't a square foot that didn't have something to look at and the center fire pit and neon "cocktails" sign added to the relaxed ambiance. The bar area was completely packed with patrons enjoying a drink and relaxing in their armchair seating. (Apparently the bar is low so they can't use regular height chairs! Brilliant!!) The banter was enjoyable to watch, and everyone seemed to be having a great time. We were quickly greeted by an incredibly personable server, given the choice of where to sit and menus/specials board provided. I so appreciated the view, even on this very dreary, somewhat drizzly day. Side note: Breakfast served all day. I went with the Cali melt sandwich and husband channeled his inner eight-year-old with chicken strips and a cup of chicken noodle soup. (We'd been out hiking in the cold and wanted warm and comforting!) The yelp reviews, and somewhat aged interior didn't have me thinking the food would taste as fresh and tasty as it did. :) Soup was flavorful, noodles thick but not gummy, well seasoned. Strips were crunchy and still tender. Ranch obviously house made and delicious. My cali sandwich was perfectly put together, structured so it didn't fall apart with each bite. The sourdough added a nice tang to the salty bacon, creamy avocado and stacked turkey. Nothing felt greasy. Fries were plentiful, crispy, salty! Service was everything you could ask for in a place like this. Friendly, professional, accommodating and just made us feel at home. Disappointed in service. First time visiting. It was my husband's birthday. He passed away 7 months ago. I wanted to eat somewhere he golfed and make a toast to him with a Bloody Mary . I arrived at 9:45am and was told to seat myself. I chose the patio . Only one table had guests so I sat on a high chair at a bar like area facing the green. I had a photo of my husband, his sunglasses and a tiny happy birthday sign. 3 different servers came out after about 15 minutes and started seating others and attending to them. I waved and said excuse me but one just waved back . 15 more minutes later one I waved at one and finally acknowledged me only to say they don't serve food where I was seated but I could go inside and put my name on a waitlist. We enjoyed our visit to the Northwood restaurant very much. Enjoyed the lodge type atmosphere inside with a lot of dark wood and views of the golf course and redwood trees that populate the whole property. Our server was very helpful, didn't mind explaining what a freckle is, lol! We were both pleased with our meals, I got the fish and chips, and it was a good portion and very tasty cod. One point to note, the actual bar is set very low and has office type high back swivel chairs instead of barstools, which I have never quite seen this way before, awesome uniqueness! Let me just say I was searching high and low for dessert after having lunch and came across this wonderful gem. Drove 30 minutes and was not disappointed with the choices of delicious looking and tasting home made cream pies that I learned from our very nice and well informed waiter are made by the owner. Amazing and the graham crush was so thick and perfect with a buttery crunch. Restaurant has that home feeling and so many amazing photos on the wall. Love the old school, pub in the forest vibe. Lively restaurant with an old school bar that'll transport ya to the 60s-70s. This course services the small golf course here but seems like a legit hangout for many of the locals. I came for a post golf outing meal and this place delivers. Service super friendly but super casual. A dude started me off by taking my order, but after that I never saw him again. The good is another server saw me trying to get attention as a beer I had ordered never arrived as my food arrived. Once she touched my table, she basically took over the rest of the transactions. Cajun Burger with added Mushrooms ($18ish/4*) Solid and juicy burger with an actual noticeable cajun seasoning. More times than not I don't really taste it, here they properly live up to the name. Nice sized probably at least a 1/3 pound and the mushroom add proved worthy as it made it more drippy and meaty. Fries were just crinkle cuts and was just meh, but it was crisp. Solid burger outing with sips of cold lager (it was a hot day). Their menu is large even substantial dinner items like steak and prime rib. If I were a local I wouldn't hesitate in being a reg. But for now I'll just wait for my next golf outing here and anticipate another decent meal. read more

We just finished golfing on Northwood course and needed to grab a bite to eat. The restaurant on the course offered a lot of food. The waitress was polite but couldn't accommodate our group of six inside so they told us we could sit out on the deck. However the section that could fit our group we couldn't eat food there. So we needed to go sit at one of the other tables without umbrellas and order food. So the people that wanted to eat, sat across the deck in the heat while eating, while the rest of us sat in a shaded area. Why we couldn't all sit together I have no idea. Anyway, the food was still subpar. The best part of our meal were the fries, super crispy outside and tender inside. I would highly recommend those. Everything else was just OK. read more

We visit Guerneville and Monte Rio every summer and Northwood is reliably delicious with the most welcoming, attentive staff you could hope for. Really 4.5 stars. This is a hidden gem - looks can be deceiving. It reminds me of TGI Fridays - with all kinds of stuff throughout. Office chairs as bar stools - interesting. Minus one star because of the carpet (lose the carpet) and flies. Live music was cool The service was super friendly and fast (even though they had a sign they were short staffed). The food was amazing - the Specials Board (nobody posted that menu - you're welcome). I had the stroganoff- super good. Stopped in for dinner by recommendation of the front of house during our overnight stay at the nearby Airstream Auto Camp. The food was fantastic, very large portions, hearty and very much comfort style food. We ordered the prime rib stroganoff and porterhouse steak. The stroganoff was very rich, but delicious. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare. We also had a slice of chocolate cream pie from the case. We leaned that the owner makes the pies, which was also delicious. What we loved most about the restaurant was the no frills and relaxing atmosphere- nothing pretentious. It seemed to be primarily locals having dinner as well. The pricing was more than fair, including cocktails. Service was excellent and they allowed us to change the channel to watch a specific college basketball game from the tournament. My only complaint would be that we would have liked to have ordered an appetizer or two, but they did not have them on the menu. No big deal though, as previously mentioned, dinner portions are generous. If we return to the area, we absolutely plan to come back and dine in. Well done. read more

This is a throwback locals bar/restaurant next to Northwood Golf Course. Inside is dark and wood paneled with picture windows overlooking the outside patio and 7th hole. They have many prime rib specials (their specialty) so we had the prime rib melt french dip sandwiches and fries for lunch before golf. The prime rib was tender and juicy, cooked with mushrooms and onions and served on a buttered toasted sourdough. It was absolutely delish and much better than the Russian River Pub's. We returned the next day for brunch and our group had country fried steak, sausage two egg breakfast , and the spicy torta sandwich with Ham, Avocado, Jalapenos, Pepper Jack Cheese, Eggs, Jalapeno, and grilled onion. Everyone loved their meals and were fully stuffed. We had the same male waiter both days and he was excellent -- honest, friendly with fast service. Note that our bartender may have watered down our "to go" greyhound and screwdrivers so be wary of that. She seemed to do a huge pour of vodka but we had no buzz on the golf course. read more

Server "Esa" was not there for me. Took my order for food, delivered it, I ask for Honey Mustard ... just a reach away... thank you, I said. There was only a little bit of Honey Mustard in the jar. I hoped he would come to check on me. I waited, food got cold. I also also needed Another napkin, He never came back. I needed a box. Nada ... never came back. I got up with my dish and asked the bartender for a box. She gave me one. When I went to go pay, couldn't see him it took about five minutes. I needed a toothpick, forget it!!! When I finally did get to pay, he gave me the ticket and walked away. If you want a place with absolutely no service and no consideration for Esa. Food??? Nothing spectacular. read more

Yet another installment of "why haven't I rated this place yet??" Quite a few years back, I discovered Piner Cafe. The food was delicious, the waitresses were all very nice, the coffee mugs didn't match. It's a cute place. Then I moved to West County. I thought Northwood Restaurant would be expensive, especially because it's connected to a golf course but eventually Boyfriend and I decided to give it a try and were surprised to realize it's the sister restaurant of Piner Cafe. The menu was the same, the food tastes the same (delicious!), SAME SAME!! Each restaurant may have strayed from the other by now, we haven't been to Piner Cafe in years because Northwood is now our home restaurant. Everything we've tried is delicious. The burgers are big and mouthwatering and juicy and messy. We usually show up midday on the weekend. It's dim and feels very 1970s, but that's not a bad thing. The view out the windows is the golf course. If the weather is nice you can sit outside and watch people golf. The prices have definitely gone up in the last few years, but that's the same everywhere you go. Definitely go here if you're looking for delicious American food. read more

My family loves this place. It is a bit pricey, but proportions and quality are worth it. Last time we chose to sit out on the patio, and it's so beautiful to be surrounded by the redwoods and the beautiful Golf course. They also ashamed a big room for events that you can rent. read more
