Unlike other more popular restaurants in the area, no need to stand n an endless line which is great. Beautiful spot with great bay views unlike some other area restaurants with a more industrial setting. All the food was excellent. Crab sandwich was outstanding with a gorgeous bun, fantastic couscous and excellent pickled veggies on the side. Clam chowder was very good with a great hint of bacon in the savory broth intermixed with clams. The Rock Cod paella was deemed excellent and my brother in law vowed to get it again next time. Wife and I decided to try somewhere different in Bodega Bay so thought we'd give this place a go. Nice atmosphere and service but this place is way to expensive for what you receive. My wife had the Crab Cakes which she said weren't bad. For $32 you got two 2-3 ounce Crab Cakes with a topping that tasted like a citrussy mayonnaise. If this is all you order be prepared to still have stomach hunger growls when you leave. No bread...No small salad or coleslaw on the side ! I had the Clam Chowder which was fair. Could have been hotter! I prefer a chunkier Chowder and this was more pureed. The biggest chunks of anything where the bacon bits. Very little clam meat in my bowl. Where's the beef ??....In this case clams ! I ordered the bread for $5 extra and you received about 3 ounces worth of a toasted bread. Came here to enjoy the sounds and sights of the Bay and cove within Bodega. We sat outside with views of the harbor and enjoyed a glass of wine, their oysters of the day, and the onion dip and chips. Everything was delicious, light, and reminded us of Spring! The weather was perfect this evening which allowed us to sit outdoors however their inside space looked great as well. The server was kind however we almost forgot to pay our bill since they never came back! However on the way to the car I asked my husband if he grabbed the card in which he responded that he thought I paid! We ran back to pay the bill and apologized. Portions were crazy small for a $32 dungeness crab sandwich and $28 for a blackened fish sandwich. Each was literally the size of a hot dog on a hot dog bun. And they were incredibly mediocre to boot. I have no issue with overpriced food in a beautiful spot but this was crazy. Great view, mediocre tasting food, and the smallest of portions at high prices. Also service was poor - 3 of us got our meals 25 mins before the fourth. Not trying to be unkind or rude but feel like it's worth knowing the reality of this experience. Had a wonderful lunch at Gourmet Au Bay. Sat at the bar and got warm service from the two bartenders, who were very helpful in advising what items could be made vegan, which wines would suit our palettes, etc. We tried the Reality Czeck Pilsner as well as a flight of three wines. To go with our drinks we got the Mushroom Medley ($18) and Cauliflower Lebanese ($16), both of which were cooked nicely and tasted fresh. **Restaurant Review:** We arrived on a Sunday early afternoon and were seated immediately with no wait. Before entering, we were asked for our order by the hostess and required to pay before being seated. It was windy and 59 degrees, so we chose to sit inside. Our order included two beet salads, a clam chowder, two glasses of wine, and a Red Stripe beer. Unfortunately, the clam chowder was served without bread, only stale oyster crackers that we removed immediately due to their dryness. The total cost of our meal was $85 before tip, but the quality and quantity of the food and drink seemed closer to $30. Since tips are collected with the order before seating, it felt like we were forgotten once our food was delivered. We were never checked on and had to ask the bartender for pepper as the food was bland and there were no spices on the table. The restaurant itself was clean but cramped and uncomfortable. Both the bartender and hostess were chatting behind the bar, seemingly unconcerned with the patrons. Overall, we did not find the food, service, or atmosphere worth the money. May 24, 2025 Another wonderful experience at Gourmet Au Bay. They open at noon and we arrived a little earlier, so we grabbed a seat at their indoor patio and waited for a few minutes with our little puppy Sophie. Some of the staff spotted us there, so welcomed us. Lovely lady Marissa, stopped over to say hi to little Sophie. They had an immediate bond. Our server/owner Brian also showed up to let us know they would be with us as soon as they opened in a few minutes. He gave us a menu while we waited. The indoor patio is such a great place to hang out. It was fairly breezy with 30 mile an hour gusts outside, but the indoor patio protected us very well. We ordered the clam and bacon pizza. It seems to be our go to choice, even though there are lots of other good looking dishes on the menu. We also got a glass of Chardonnay and rosé wine. Wine came out almost instantly and the pizza showed up pretty quickly thereafter as well. Seriously you can't go wrong with the clam and bacon pizza. I was in Bodega Bay yesterday and today crabbing. Long story shoanrt I ran out of propane in my trailer and couldn't cook food. I was starving and needed something to eat. I hadn't been here for a number of years, but I figured they had ample parking for me and my travel trailer, they did. I was greeted by a very nice lady, I believe her name is Marissa. No pretenteous, just someone that wanted to make me feel at home. I ordered the smoked clam pizza. What a great choice. We talked, laughed, shared life stories a bit. It was very comfortable and casual. I'll be back. Regulars came in and as she should, she served and socialized. You pay for the location. View was the bay and boats. As for the food? Don't come here hungry. Portion very small. Chowder- soup lacked flavors. It was pretty watery and not much seafood. Paella- Very small portion. Flavor was missing. Topped with lots of green garnish that makes it appealing. Pizza- we liked the pizza. Dough was fluffy. Toppings were good. Bodega Bay has truly been discovered, so suggest you visit during the weekdays to minimize the intense tourist traffic. This charming town is home to where The Birds was filmed and they have some very nice fresh seafood to eat and take home. Our most favorite place for clam chowder is Spuds, when you turn right coming down the hill from the highway. Gourmet Au Bay is secreted by turning left or going straight ahead. Their clam chowder is different in a wonderful way and you get a decent size serving ($13) and a nice selection of wines, plus a regular menu. Gourmet is a lunch, wine and very early dinner kind of place, as they are open from noon to 6pm, except for Wednesdays where they close at 3pm. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Parking is readily available, a treat in crowded Bodega Bay. Menu: nice appetizers ranging from $15 - 17. Seafood of oysters, shrimp and clam chowder, also a steak, seafood paella, sword fish and salads $26 - 30. So you can get a decent lunch or early dinner. Also pizza and lots of great wines to choose from, by the glass or in the bottle. Our red wines were $14 per glass. What could be described as a tourist trap as they charge you $36 for a 3" crab sandwich that is more so a bite size appetizer, if I didn't pay before being sat down I would have walked out. A big group of us went in for dinner (some had also been there earlier for lunch). Easy to order at the podium before taking a seat. However it should be renamed Torment au Bay for the time they had us wait to be served our 3 clam chowders and one autumn salad. Granted, there was a party of 12 ahead of us. However, an hour was an excessive amount of time to wait for soup and salad. At the very least the chowder could have come to the table sooner because presumably the clams were not being shucked in the kitchen and the soup being prepared from scratch. After 30 minutes, we asked for a status and was told the food was being plated. 10 minutes later the salad and one soup arrived. After we finished the salad we asked for the status of the other 2 soups. Inexplicably they took an additional 20 minutes to arrive. The salad was ho-hum but the soup was tasty. We wonder if we would still be waiting at our table if we had not followed up twice. read more

The food here was EXCELLENT: the Crab Cakes we both agreed were the best we've ever had, I got the Clam Chowder which was delicious but could've been served a bit warmer, the Grilled Oysters were so fresh and delicious, and my girlfriend really enjoyed the Wood Fired Grilled Mushrooms and the Winter Salad. Surprisingly, there were not many people on a Saturday in February when they opened at 12 PM so they let us sit down at a table without waiting for the rest of our party. Since this was our first time, I went up to the hostess and asked her how it worked. Usually you go to the host stand and stand in line, pay for your initial order so they can open your ticket and then seat you. It was a calm and sunny day, and we chose to sit in the patio area which is shared with the restaurant next-door, but a little more shielded from the wind and sun. We also had two dogs with us, so it was easy to spread them out there. Otherwise, you can also choose to sit on the tables and benches in front outside. I did not go inside, so I'm not sure how it looked. I did use the restroom, which you go up a ramp in the back of the patio the restrooms are shared with the other restaurant. There are separate restrooms for men and women. Since my friend and I had already eaten, we just enjoyed some wine. She got a flight which you can choose whatever three wines from their list that you like. I got a glass of some Spanish wine I had never heard of and the pour was generous. I also had three oysters and the mignonette had an interesting taste I never quite put my finger on. Our husbands were hungry, so they had crab sandwich and paella. The paella was very small. All in all a nice, relaxing place to hang out and eat and drink by the bay. The parking lot is huge although it was getting a little bit busier when we came out. It was all so fresh and everyone extremely satiated after but not overly full. It is on the pricier side for the portions but if your willing to spend for some good food check it out. I'm really giving no stars but you can't complete the review without. We were really looking forward to trying this place as it was my Aunt's Birthday and we wanted something more casual. We walked in and were greeted by a not so friendly employee. Told us we could sit anywhere but needed to order outside. Thinking there may be someone out there to assist with our order we stood there with no direction but an iPad with a low battery staring us in the face. Would have been helpful for the employee to say, hey you place your order on the iPad and then take your seat....nothing! So we left and I'm not really inclined to go back next time I'm in town.
