Lovely place, extremely responsive staff, and nice amenities. What more do you want? We spent 3 nights there in August and had a lovely time. Room was decent size, and bed was excellent. Sat outside in the early morning and watched the sun rise over a cove. Took out kayaks and paddleboards in the afternoon, and then had a drink. Ate dinner one night at the restaurant, and it was good. The breakfasts were fresh-cooked each morning, and substantial. They have a Keurig and other free drinks 24/7, which is good for me because I wake up before dawn. We did have a couple of minor problems, but the staff took care of them immediately and without any fuss. I really appreciate that type of service because often you get a reluctant and slow response, or the hotel doesn't have the resources to fix the problem. If there's one thing to warn about, it's that The Oaks is heavily into the wedding business, and that drives its entire strategy. So you can't get a room on a weekend if there's a wedding booked, and you can't get into the restaurant for dinner, either. And thus on the nights when you can get into the restaurant, it's typically full because folks from the nearby towns like to come, plus the hotel guests. If you see a complaint on Yelp, most likely it's due to the rather limited access to the restaurant and the weird rules about when it's available. In sum, this is an expensive place, but it's worth it for a quiet, romantic, scenic getaway. read more

We came here for a Valentine's Day weekend getaway. Hotel communicated our arrival via text, very convenient. Upon arrival we were given a tour of the hotel which included the bar and restaurant. Room was very spacious and clean, plenty of drawer storage space but not a lot of closet space. Bathroom was gorgeously designed, opened, and had very nice heated floors! The bed was also super comfortable. Can hear music from the restaurant downstairs, would definitely recommend bringing a white noise machine. Breakfast is chef made & included in your stay, which was so convenient & delicious!! The hotel is around a 10 min drive to St. Michael's. On our last night we got stuck on the western side of the Bay Bridge & had to detour around the Chesapeake. We called the hotel & they graciously gave us a late check out the following afternoon. I made reservations for dinner at the Oaks for for Four people. Several days before hand changed the reservation from four till five. We arrived at the Inn restaurant and seated the five of us at a banquet near the bar. The volume was so loud that we could not tolerate the decibels so we asked the hostess to move us into the main dining room. She said there was no space available, which we could clearly see that there was! I told the hostess we would have to close out our drinks bill and leave. She was not sympathetic. We closed out our bill and left and will never come back again. We stood by the establishment when they were starting several years ago but as a regular customer and a nearby resident, I was shocked! The Oaks might just be one of the best small inns I have ever stayed in. We have a good friend who we have known for over 50 years and it was a big birthday for her. We wanted to treat her specially and thought a night or two out of town was a good way to do that. Randomly, we found The Oaks and we are really glad we did. The structure looks like a big old turn of the century beach hotel from the Gilded Age. But, inside, it could not be more modern, elegant and perfect. Neutral colors, luxurious surfaces, beautiful wallpaper and, of course, the most relaxing view I think I have ever seen. I understand that the owners did their own decorating - it's almost hard to believe because the interior (both public areas and private rooms) look picture perfect! Every corner, surface and item inside is neurotically clean. The rooms are HUGE. The bathroom floor was heated!!! The size of our balcony (one of two that went with our room) was crazy big. I cannot wait to come back when the weather is warm. The service was beyond compare. From the very moment I made the reservation over the telephone with Kathy, I knew that The Oaks was a very special place. Kathy was well spoken, helpful and took all the time necessary to make sure our interaction was complete and satisfactory. No hurrying here! I found the same dedication to customer service when we arrived. Linda, Terri and all the people who worked there are outstanding! Really outstanding! The staff went way out of their way to make us feel comfortable, accommodated and well taken care of! We could not have asked for a better experience! OK so here is my one negative - I had only booked the rooms for 1 night and, because The Oaks is so fantastic, we wanted and tried to extend our stay - BUT WE COULDN'T because the rooms were already booked. There is no wonder because to stay at The Oaks once, is to want to return and return and return! I hate a review that is only glowing and perfect and 5 star, without some sort of critical objective suggestion to improve quality or service or something. But there was really nothing to complain about at The Oaks. Or, if I could find something to complain about (which I can't), it would be nitpicking! Usually, I complain about the quality of towels in a hotel or inn. I am very picky about that. But, the towels at The Oaks are thick, absorbent and luxurious - better than my own at home!!! So, should I complain that the room was TOO LARGE? Should I complain that the trash can was too far away when I had something to throw away? No, I cannot and I will not! I give The Oaks an unreserved 5 star review. Try and find a day to go visit because you will love it there!!! I promise you!!! read more

We just had our son's wedding at this incredible venue. To begin with the staff was fantastic and anticipated your every need. Anything we asked for was taken care of in seconds. Everyone was kind, personable, and so helpful. What makes the Oaks stand out is not just their beautiful vistas, elegance and charm but the variety of these traits. Our first event was the rehearsal dinner on a magnificent, covered dock with the wind gently blowing as we enjoyed a delicious Chesapeake buffet. (picture below). For appetizers before, we were on a second-floor deck over a full landscape of water. The wedding took place on a lawn that was reached by walking over a charming and lovely bridge and as the ceremony took place you could see the birds flying and fish jumping against the glorious backdrop of the water as the bride and groom said their vows. The reception was in a gorgeous ballroom that had the coolest decoration. There were no boring white table clothes but cool chairs and tables and ribbons hanging from the light fixtures. That must have taken someone hours to do. But it was so festive and unique. Then that same ballroom was transformed into a cozy brunch area the next day. Everyone had such a marvelous time and all the guests commented on what a wonderful venue it was. We could have booked down the road and been one of two or three other weddings but here we had the whole place to ourselves. It was perfect! read more

Just returned from a 3-day stay at "The Oaks." Our daughter and her family stayed at the "The Inn at Perry Cabin." We declined to pay the additional cost for Perry Cabin and we are so glad we did. Both accommodations and amenities were superb, but The Oaks was actually nicer in every aspect. "Our" Inn was completely modernized and refurbished 3 years ago. It seemed much brighter and fresher than Perry Cabin. Moreover the water views were far superior and much closer to the water. Perhaps I'd give a slight edge to the Perry Cabin restaurant, but that's it. In every other respect, The Oaks was nicer. Don't get me wrong, Perry Cabin is very luxurious also - just not quite as much, and significantly more expensive. I did notice that the guests' luxury cars seemed more exclusive at Perry Cabin! read more

I have stay at the Oaks several times. The hotel is stunning, the waterfront views are beautiful,the rooms are large and nicely decorated. The bar is nice also. The breakfast is really good. Gorgeous venue! Stayed here over a holiday weekend in the wintertime and it was quiet, serene and practically empty! (just 2 other parties). I'd love to come back when it's warmer and experience this beautiful place when the temperatures are right to enjoy the outdoors. They have their own dock (so pretty!! there are chairs to sit and relax) and a private patio space. There's also a side, private cottage that can be rented out that features a kitchenette and spa tub next to the main inn. I reserved a King bedroom in the main inn; I made a point to ask for one of the rooms that faced the waterfront area. The receptionist also generously honored and price matched the cost that I saw on Booking.com the day before! Loved the view from my room! The furniture is old English countryside and quaint. Not my usual taste, but it fit this inn's style. It seems like the place was renovated not that long ago, too. Our room also came with a mini fire place that you can turn on and off. So cozy! I was hoping for a bigger tub in the bathroom, but it was a regular shower + a slight minus that the bathroom was in older condition. The inn-keeper was very friendly and welcoming, making sure that we were doing well and was quick to offer advice (told us what to do in the town and where to shop and eat). We took his advice and tried the Talbots restaurant, which was excellent! In the common areas, they offer sugar cookies in the late afternoon. I didn't get to try them because we were late to come back after dinner. They also have a communal mini fridge in the living area where you can enjoy complimentary wine, beer or soda! What a nice touch! Breakfast is served at 9 a.m. on the house. That was my favorite experience at the inn! We ordered the omelet and French toast. They were perfectly cooked with gorgeous presentation. We also had an appetizer of a fruit cup with freshly cut strawberries and a tarragon sprig to top it off (who knew that tarragon would go so well with fruit!) The lighting in the dining room was exquisite. It would be a cute venue for a special event like a wedding. Apparently, they host about 42 weddings a year - so busy!! So make sure you come on a weekend where there's not one. read more

Not great for an outdoor wedding if it might rain. I attended a wedding ceremony that was held under the covered dock. We sat in the back and couldn't see or hear everything. There was also rain, wind, thunder and lightning! Not pleasant. The one AWESOME thing was the meal served for dinner. (I posted a photo on Yelp) it was a Maryland Crabcake that was leaning against a perfectly cooked medium-rare steak that was topped with sautéed shiitake mushroom caps. Underneath the steak and Crabcake were freshly cooked green beans (huge difference if you normally eat yours from a can). There were also small round, peeled potatoes evenly spaced around the plate. The best part was the creamy and buttery, with a hint of salt, oyster sauce that everything was sitting in. No oyster taste though. SO DELICIOUS! Our daughter's wedding was at The Oaks this weekend. This was a wonderful location for a wedding. It was really neat to have the entire location booked with family and friends. It made the weekend feel like it was our own personal resort. Our room was large, clean and had a great view of the water. When we were ready for shopping, downtown St. Michaels was only 3.5 miles away. The town had plenty of bars, restaurants, and shops. For the wedding, a family room is provided for lounging during the day and served as an area for everyone to check in periodically. The organization of the guests arriving, hot coca with schnapps, moving to the wedding service on the dock, to the cocktail reception and to the dinner was smoothly handled. The dinner was outstanding. The service was remarkable. I would definitely recommend this location for a wedding. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE FOR YOUR WEDDING! This hotel would fit right in with the town of Footloose, because apparently having a good time gave the management cause to be as unaccommodating as people could be. Let me count the ways: 1. They were rude to the bride. Strike 3. I am pretty sure rule number 1 when "serving" as a wedding destination is DON'T BE RUDE TO THE BRIDE. Be rude to everyone and anyone else (I guess?), but not being rude to the bride is day 1 basics. This alone should make you look elsewhere for your wedding. 2. They were rude to bride's mother. Honestly people if rule 1 is don't be rude to the bride this is clearly rule 2. So, The Oaks managed to drop the ball on the 2 most basic and widely excepted rules of being a wedding destination...and the list is just getting started. 3. They double booked the bridal suite. Morning after the wedding the bride and groom were told they had not reserved an extra day...even with the confirmation in hand. Even having been proven they were wrong management dared to say they were going to bill the groom. Upon correction, they realized their error. 4. There was no running water...the day of the wedding. That's not fair, water dribbled out of the faucet...and it was ice cold. 5. They took our beer. What are we, in high school? They threw some non-sense about how they can be the only ones to serve us booze...but clearly this was a reaction to our "making a mess" at the rehearsal. I put making a mess in quotes because a few solo cups were all I saw, but management sure made a big deal about it. 6. The pool was opened late the morning of the wedding...and not at all the day after. Why list having a pool as an accommodation if you are going to put "chemicals in it" every day right before you're supposed to open it? (Again, their words.) I can actually answer my own question...its cause the pool was lame. Their answer..."the rain really messed it up?"....What?!? 7. We needed an extra bed for our room. Again, this was seen as some huge inconvenience and took an extra day to get the air mattress. 8. Other people being shown around the venue while our event was still going on. (Including snide remarks in front of guests.) The list goes on, but you get the idea. Now I know what you may be thinking, some of these things may seem petty or have had legit excuses, but truthfully everything would have been so much better and so much more tolerable if the management had made ANY EFFORT to be apologetic or sympathetic in any of these situations (barring 1-3). But no, at every turn they were rude, unapologetic and acted as if we were somehow inconveniencing them in some way. You can't argue with the location, the spot is gorgeous, but I assure you there are equally beautiful locations in St. Michaels and will be exceedingly more accommodating. If you do decide to risk staying at the Oaks I wish you the best and hope you have a crowd like ours that can overcome the wet blanket that was the management and power through to have a good time. read more

Every single person involved goes above and beyond to make sure the bride and groom, plus family and friends are well taken care of. I had my wedding here in April 2012, and I couldn't have asked for a more perfect weekend. My husband and I still receive compliments from our guests over a year later and how it was one of the best weddings they have ever gone too. Our Wedding was a Saturday and so our guests got to stay Friday and Saturday night; it was so wonderful to have the place to just our family and friends, it made the whole weekend feel so intimate. We were lucky to have our wedding rehearsal that Friday night, all our guests loved it, the food was amazing and the staff was great. We had such a pleasant experience with all the staff that worked at the wedding, my husband and I as well as our parents received the VIP treatment during the wedding as we had our own very attendant to make sure we had everything we needed during the event. One review complained about it not being a great place for an outdoor wedding and I couldn't disagree more. Our wedding day was severely overcast and had a 50% chance of rain (what would you expect in Maryland in April) and our wedding coordinator had us make the call on what we wanted to do 3 hours before the ceremony; they did have a covered dock as well as tent on an upper level that you could choose from for the ceremony in addition to the ballroom that the reception would be held. One of the reasons we went with The Oaks was due to the several options we had in case it did rain. After the wedding I've been asked by several people that if I could change anything would I? The answer not one thing! Everything went exactly how my husband and I wanted it to go and it will be one the best weekends of our lives and that was all due to the wonderful staff and management at The Oaks!!! read more

My wife and I recently stayed the Oaks for a weekend. I'll start by saying that the breakfast was very good and all staff were friendly. However, although there were only a handful of couples staying at The Oaks that weekend, we were assigned the suite directly below the Innkeeper's suite/office for some reason. Both mornings we were there, around 4:30 - 5:00 AM, the Innkeeper (or other staff) were very busy moving around in the room(s) directly above us and their footsteps were quite loud. We did not get much sleep either night as a result, which was disappointing. We mentioned this to the host who did not pay it much mind. Additionally, my wife and I left a valuable item in our room (our mistake), and when we called the same day to inform the Innkeep that we had left the item we were assured that he would follow up as soon as he had a chance to ask the cleaning staff. We called the next day and received the same response...and the day after that. We never heard back. read more

My husband and i took a trip to St Micheal 's for our Anniversary. We had a wonderful time at Oak Waterfront Inn. Our visit to the inn was wonderful. The staff were very friendly. They had bikes and canoes to use. We enjoyed the pool and grounds. Our room had plenty of space. It was a short drive to the town of St. Micheal. Im not saying there needs to be a travertine 22 head shower with a flatscreen in every room but clean, undamaged period correct furnishings would be better than current. Staff upgrades are overdue as well. Reading previous reviews we concur that brash, overbearing 'cranky great-aunt from out of town' types that feel an obligation to delve well past the normal reminders about policy and courtesy didnt help the check in or out. Fresh faces and pleasant greetings would be better recieved. My husband and I married here in June 2019 and we had a wonderful experience! We did a Sunday wedding, which was much more reasonable for our modest budget. Everything went smooth and I have to say the attention to detail there is fantastic! It's a beautiful venue on its own, and you really don't need to add much. The food for the wedding was amazing and the breakfast the next morning is a nice touch. My only complaint was how short our reception felt. I wish we could have extended it longer (this comes at a price), but it was also discouraged. Likely, because it was a Sunday wedding and there are noise restrictions with neighbors. Everything was great on our two night stay. This inn hosts weddings most spring/summer weekends. But from Tuesday to Thursday you can get a great room at a very reasonable rate. It is about 5 miles outside St. Michaels shopping, and on the way to the Oxford ferry. It is an inn, not a hotel, so you might expect to hear other guests in the hall, etc. Our room was nice--not the most up-to date in terms of appointments, but very comfortable. The grounds are wonderful. The inn sits on a "creek" which is more like a lake or river. The "creek" flows into the inlet around St. Michaels which flows into the bay. There are lots of adirondack chairs to enjoy the setting, a small pool, shuffle board, etc. A night in the inn includes breakfast, which was nothing short of great. Filling, but not too much, and perfectly prepared. We will definitely return. read more

My sister got married at The Oak's this summer. The venue was beautiful, but the management was a nightmare to work with. Approximately 5-10 minutes after the rehearsal dinner ended they turned the lights out on the remaining guests. My sister only saw the wedding coordinator ONCE the entire day. My grandmother and step-mom's flowers went missing for the ceremony. The reception ended at 10:00 pm and at 10:02 pm they were vacuuming, cleaning off tables, and trying to get us out of there. During the reception my sister had setup a cigar bar for all the men to smoke. A number of the guests were outside smoking cigars and as soon as the clock struck 10 they turned the lights out on them!! read more

I specifically wanted to highlight and thank a young server who at the end of the evening noticed I had lost an earring. As I was leaving she found my earring and located me as I was walking out the door. I was so happy she found the earring and was able to find me! Thank you! We were guests at a wedding where the entire Inn was taken by the wedding guests. As many of our family members are raising families, we chose to take one of the most expensive rooms, advertised to have a water view. Upon check in, we were shocked to discover that this water view from both the room and a lovely private deck was completely obliterated by a tent erected for use in the event of inclement weather. We complained and were told that no one else had ever complained?? and further that there was a garden view...if you go to the small window on the other side of the room and stretch your neck...and it was a water view we thought we were buying. This was my first time to officiate at a wedding at the Oaks and my experience can be summed up in one word...outstanding. I am not one of their "listed" ministers so I have no vested interest for repeat business. It was an outdoor wedding with @ 150 guests. I interacted with quite a few through the course of the afternoon and evening and I didn't hear a single complaint or observe anything that would even hint at poor behavior by the staff. The event coordinator was a tremendous help to a minister because she knew how the processional was supposed to be ordered. (there are some who really don't take the time to at least be familiar with this) I gave her my work sheet and it went off like clockwork. The cocktail hour went off without a hitch...plenty of lovely hors d'ouevres (the mini Reuben and mini BLT's were very cool...bacon wrapped scallops...always a hit) and a nice variety of wines and top shelf bar stock. Service was professional, courteous and quick. For those who have complained about the event coordinators being bossy...not so. The one for this event kept things moving at a pace that was perfect. If you're dragging your feet outside when you should be at or heading to your table for dinner service...that's your bad. I have been to way too many weddings where things get drawn out way to long because guest are just milling around with nobody directing the activities. The DJ (I was one for over 20 years...on-air as well as doing weddings, reunions, etc.) was a pro all the way. Now for the meal...it opened with a field greens salad...nothing to write home about, but it was fresh and chilled with an acceptable vinaigrette. The entree was top notch. (I live in Chesapeake Bay Country, nearly 50 years now and I know what a crab cake or crab imperial is supposed to be. I have family members who are 5 star caliber seafood cooks...nuff said) A better than average crab cake, between 4 and 5 ounces) that had plenty of quality crab, just enough filler to hold it together properly and cooked to perfection was perched atop an excellent med / med rare steak, Sides were haricot verts...with a nice vegetable crunch to them and 6 @ 1"pearl potatoes around the edge. The sauce on the plate was to die for...I at first identified it as a variant of a beurre blanc...and after reading several other reviews, some say it is a white "oyster" sauce (no overpowering oyster flavor...note: I love oysters) it was rich without being heavy and dipping the steak, a bite of crab cake...even the veggies in it was IMHO culinary genius. It was that good!! I recommend these folks wholeheartedly...until I see performance that would cause me to do otherwise!!! read more
