One Star - Veterans Beware: Harassed, Humiliated, and Evicted Without Cause If I could leave zero stars, I would. My experience at the Baymont Inn & Suites by Wyndham in Port Huron, Michigan, was not just disappointing--it was traumatizing, unjust, and downright dangerous. On Friday, April 18, 2025, I checked in after a long flight from Dallas-Fort Worth to Detroit. I'm a service-connected disabled veteran currently traveling America's Great Loop, and I trusted this hotel to provide a safe, secure, and lawful place to rest with my belongings and my pet. Instead, I was met with harassment, false accusations, and an outright violation of my rights and dignity. Despite a Do Not Disturb sign clearly on my door, I was woken up around 10 a.m. Saturday morning by a loud knock, with hotel staff claiming to be investigating a smell of smoke. I welcomed them into my room. They quickly concluded the odor wasn't coming from me, and I returned to my much-needed rest. Hours later, around 4:45 p.m., I was again jolted awake--this time by an aggressive knock. A tall man forced his foot in the door, accusing me of smoking in the room. Let me be crystal clear: I had not smoked anything in that room. I had legally obtained medical marijuana in my possession, prescribed for PTSD and chronic pain, but I only consumed it outside, in accordance with hotel rules and Michigan state law. I told him as much. That should've been the end of it. Instead, the situation escalated disturbingly. I began recording the interaction as I was essentially told to leave the premises, despite no violation of law, policy, or disturbance. I had already spent all my money to get there, and had no other place to go--this room was supposed to be my safe haven until my next paycheck. Yet I was treated like a criminal. Three Michigan State Troopers arrived. I had called them hoping they would advocate for me, a disabled veteran being harassed and wrongfully evicted. Instead, they surrounded me, took my ID, and sided with the hotel, completely ignoring the absence of any legal or contractual violation. Their message was clear: get out, or else. I was thrown out into the cold--43 degrees, damp, pneumonia weather--with no transportation, nowhere to go, and my trust in both law enforcement and corporate hospitality completely shattered. I had to depend on a friend to pick me up and drive me around for hours just to find a new place to stay. The emotional toll of this experience is something I wouldn't wish on anyone. The management at this hotel operates with Gestapo-like tactics--invasive, heartless, and shamefully ignorant of veterans' rights, human decency, or simple hospitality. They violated the contract, humiliated a disabled veteran, and took no accountability. Do not stay here. If you are a veteran, a medical patient, or simply someone who values your right to privacy and respect--run far away from this place. read more

This is the third time I have stayed here in town and have been pleasantly surprised every time. We stay here as it's the only pet friendly hotel in the area. Rooms have always been clean and spacious. We get the hot tub suite for extra fun. Showers are great! They have a pool and fitness room. The only mark is the continental breakfast is subpar. Staff has always been very nice and accommodating. read more

If I could put 0 stars I would... we got 2 dirty rooms, wet spot on beds, and lights not working,, and checked out and were told to come back tomorrow for a refund. The management says they can't help us and there is nothing they can do. read more

The room was decently clean. The beds not comfortable, they were lumpy/sagging. The staff was friendly. The walls are *paper* thin, so when the housekeeper was talking about the "turd" that wouldn't flush, it was quite disgusting. Then the maintenance worker was yelling in the hallway "that's not just sh*t and toilet paper. It's more than just sh*t" multiple times. Also, I'm writing this review at 7:40PM and housekeeping is STILL vacuuming the hallways. Not awful, but you get what you pay for, I suppose. read more

Things wrong with this hotel/inn 1 - There is NO elevator from what we saw, so not the best for handicapped people 2 - took a walk in the parking lot, and stepped in actual dog (or by the quality of this place, possibly human) shit 3 - Very small breakfast room, only things were yogurt, eggs, cereal, and waffles. But, there were really only 3 because they didn't even bother to put any batter in the machine 4 - Small Lobby, like VERY SMALL Now there was one GOOD thing about this place. The lady at the front desk was very strict on rules, which is nice if there are a lot of rowdy kids running around. Because of this ONE good thing, you get 2 stars. If you want to know what a hell hole smells like - just check into room 208. The gut twisting stench is unbearable. It's a cross between vomit, sewer water and rotten sauerkraut. I'm pretty sure this room was where the creation of hell took place. You could talk to the staff but they really don't care. We were stuck with no other place to stay so we were stuck. Thankfully, those COVID masks came in handy because that's how we slept. JUST DON'T PUT YOURSELF THROUGH THE TORCHES! I'm writing this to save you! read more

this place sucks walk in the front door. It smells like wet dog. The smug little prick at the front desk is all but friendly or courteous. The girls that clean look like they need to clean themselves before they come to work first not to mention the maintenance/janitor guy sucks at his job because everything is installed like shit plugs half cocked fixtures, mounted crooked holes patched like shit. Stayed here with my family one night while traveling in the thumb. It looks ok outside and in the lobby, but once you get In the hallways your hit with the odor of weed. I thought we had booked into a 1980's dope den. It was absolutely ridiculous. The first room we had smelt like someone had just finished a joint, so I requested we be moved. The second room was better. The pool water was not clear and smelt like well water, plan to take a shower immediately after. There was a cigarette burn in my sheets and what's dumb is that you sign a waiver when you checkin saying they can charge you $200 if you smoke in the room. .....I don't think that's enforced. One other thing is that they take photocopies of your ID and credit card. Who does that anymore?!? Nice to see my data is sitting all secure in a Tupperware container at the front desk. I know weed is legal and all but this place attracts a crowd that can't control themselves. Hand out some gummies to these m@"$#f*^%s, they reek. Conclusion: Go somewhere else. read more

This hotel has been nothing but a thorn in my side since working with them. This was the hotel used for reservations for my wedding. The week of the wedding I contacted the hotel to verify our rooms were good (had a weird feeling). I was greeted with a "we don't show you as having a room reserved." After this I was passed via phone to heather solomon the person who manages this hotel who further confirmed "I don't see a room for you, how did this happen?" Followed by about a minute of silent mess of words and clicking on a keyboard I was advised I'd be called back after she "sees what she can do" In the meantime I prepared for the worse both telling my wife and preparing a backup plan. No phone calls, no emails. Wedding day I revived a call in the middle of us taking pictures that I checked the following day and oh wow! It was Heather Solomon asking why I didn't check into my room? Probably because I wasn't told I had a room. I spoke with heather after various phone tags to confirm that I would not be charged for their error. Here comes the shocker! I had a charge on my card appear! As I'm writing this I am still in a constant phone battle attempting to get this charge removed, told it will be, having nothing happen and still dealing with my loss. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone friends or family and I will share the review surrounding the negativity of this across whatever platform I see the hotel available for review on. As you may guess this is a shortened version of this lengthy process that is still not complete.(2 months currently) and I have not been called back or emailed once in regards to the matter. read more

The hotel itself is nice but...they are over priced, it is a giant pain to get to, and it is basically in the middle of nowhere. Sure there's a giant strip mall across the parking lot, but it's basically a giant abandoned building at this point. They're technically right off the highway, but you get off 94 turn right then left into the "mall parking lot" (ok there's a speedway but yippee to that!) then follow around the winding parking lot and eventually end up at the hotel. If they had better priced I would recommend them but they're over do for renovations, the beds aren't that comfortable and it's a giant pain to get to near nothing so I wouldn't stay here if you don't have to! read more

We came here for our best friend's wedding. They had a room block but the hotel had given away 3 of their suites, including the BRIDES! Then when the groom tried to sort out the situation they told him they were going to deny him a room for raising his voice and call the sheriffs! The bride and groom ended up having to stay at a completely different hotel. Meanwhile, we had to wait over an hour after check in for our room to be ready. Once we finally got into our room, we were getting ready for the rehearsal dinner and housekeeping knocked on our door so they could finish up our room! We would never recommend that anyone stay here. read more

Two stars for two stars After a 6 1/2 hour drive, we arrived at the hotel at 12:30am only to find the doors to the hotel locked and no one at the front desk. The on staff person had stepped away and had locked the doors per protocol. Not something you want to have happen when your son has a 7:00am game. The front desk attendant came back 10 minutes later. We were given the last remaining room which ended up being a handicap room with one double bed for three guests. It wasn't until I went back to the front desk, that I was told that no other rooms were available and that I could get a roll away bed. Finally in bed at 1:00am, we heard our next door neighbor watching Stranger Things Season 2 loud enough for me to recognize what he was watching. Tried to drown out the sound and sleep. While all of this was frustrating, the hotel staff were polite and did what they could. For hockey tournaments, the hotel reserves the right to switch rooms at their discretion, regardless of what you reserve. When the hotel is filled to capacity, there are not many options. What I find upsetting, is that this two star hotel charges more than double their regular rates to hockey guests booked for a tournament. Had I paid the regular weekend rate of $79, I would have set my expectations differently. I had higher expectations for the rate I was paying and the two double beds that I reserved. Hockey teams beware. Do not book this hotel for your next Port Huron tournament. read more

Very high pitched whistle coming from filthy air intake for hot tub. Could only handle five minutes of noise. Thermostat broken on room furnace. Took half a day to figure out to set temp at 58 to have the room at 70 degrees. Place is run down and neglected. Owner not re- investing to keep the place nice. Free breakfast tomorrow. I am fearful to give it a try. Entrance mats should have been replace in 2001. read more

I am giving only one star because my son liked the jacuzzi tub and the bed was comfy. As for the lack of stars- that would revolve around unethical behavior and poor customer service. Our hockey team along with 3 other teams stayed at this hotel that it appears a lot of truck drivers stay at for a normal price of 69.99 a night. Because of a huge well known hockey tournament, Silver Sticks, that takes place in this small town, prices are elevated, which I understand to 130.00 a night. I also understand when they have the coach sign a contract that locks all families in for 4 days. What I don't understand is how they let a few families out of a day on this contract and not others. I also don't understand how if we are having to pay through a certain night and don't check out but they knew we left, how they can rent our room out for the same day with then two parties paying for it? Is that even legal? I also don't understand how I left a poor review of this place on tripadvisor and the manager responded saying I was mistaken that they re-rented our room out. I take that as an insinuation I'm lying. Well funny thing, what he/she doesn't know is we called back that day and asked CJ,who answered the phone, if our room had been rented out. CJ told us it had and acted nervous about it. We had called after some teammates told us our room had been re-rented and knocked on the door and it was not us so called us to see what was going on. So what I DO understand is the person who responded to my trip advisor probably should have called me before lying and they have no business running a hotel if they can't be honest. read more

I am giving 4 stars. Very very clean. The staff is very accommodating and super friendly. They are eager to please. An added bonus that you can bring your pets. I was weary of staying here as there was only one review but am pleasantly surprise. Indoor pool and continental breakfast too. read more

I stayed here with my young child. We had a quick layover on a long trip across country--late arrival, early departure. The clerk who checked us in and out lives there I think-she was there late and very early. There was a plumbing problem where the toilet overflowed and damaged our belongings and flooded the entire room. The hotel is charging me for that and refusing to accept responsibility for their own plumbing issue. When the overflow happened I called the front immediately and explained that we had done nothing and the overflow resulted from a simple effort to flush the toilet. The clerk and two other women came up and apologized profusely and helped us move our belongings. We were then put into another room that did not have heat. The apparent jack of all trades clerk came into the new room and somehow got the heater to work after about 30 minutes. This is all occurring after midnight when we were very tired and all we wanted to do was rest. When I called to ask about the extra charge on my credit card, I spoke with the same clerk and notified the property that I was in contact with Baymont corporate who indicated that the property was wrong to charge me that fee. She said, "Okay, we look forward to that" and hung up. Rude, inappropriate and ignorant. Her remark was that she had never seen anything like that happen so it must be my fault. I might also add that there were a total of three inaccurate charges on my card statement because apparently the clerk did not understand that when a customer pays cash, you do not charge their credit card also. It took her two tries to correct the room charge--so I have five entries on my statement from this property: two room charges, two room reversal charges, and the "cleaning fee" which is currently in dispute with my bank and with Baymont corporate. All in all a horrible experience and now much extra time spent on my end to resolve the clerical incompetence and apparent indifference to customer dissatisfaction. I would never stay at this property again and am shocked that this is happening with Baymont, a name I know and trust. I expect better from Baymont. read more

This hotel gave away three suites which my best friends booked for their wedding. The front desk was clueless and had no reasoning to give them as to why their rooms were given away. After the groom raised his voice a little from his frustration, the front desk workers threaten to call the sheriffs. They also added that they can deny anyone a room for any reason. Basically, this hotel gave away rooms which were paid for and then acted like the bride and groom were the bad people. The wedding is tomorrow and this is the first memory we have. My go to Hotel when in Port Huron... or it was! Reservation Nightmare! I have stayed there almost every other month for 3 years Arrived to check in and told I did not have a reservation. I showed the Desk Clerk my reservation on my I phone, It was for three nights. Was told it was cancelled @4 pm, I asked by who and was then told it was a glitch in the system. Then was told they never received it. Call Wyndham Rewards , told they would check on it. The hotel was full all three nights. I went to anther Hotel in the area for my stay. I asked for the Mangers business card and was told they did not have one, only the Hotels card. The next day I went to the Hotel and asked for the Manger, person on the desk (who knew my name as we have interacted before) Checked the system and told me the reservation was cancelled at 9 pm that night. I said that's funny as I was standing in the same spot at the counter at 8:30 pm that night. Just then the clerk from the night before came in and hurried down the hall away from the desk. The Clerk at the counter hurried out and spoke to her out of ear shot. Then looked at the computer again and said the reservation was cancelled at 12:00 am.
