Construction all around. Can't find hotel as a result. Very disappointing. Will never come back. Not a nice town to stay in.

Great, friendly staff. Clean. Inexpensive (around $115/night) seems newer. Comfy beds. Nice accommodations.

Great for a short trip. Great location. Pleasant staff and property well maintained. Get a room with view of the park.

(We travel often so we carry disinfectant wipes to clean airplane seats & hotel rooms ourselves,…read moreeven at 5-Star accommodations) This is a disheartening review, and one that is truly disappointing to write. One-star review is generous. I am an IHG member (many years) and have stayed at quite a few Holiday Inns and Suites and quite a few Holiday Inn Vacations in North America. We have never been disgusted and disappointed until this location in Port Huron, MI. (In fact, we were returning guests from a few years ago. We stayed in their 2-room King Suite & it was clean, relaxing & pleasant) I booked a reservation via Expedia.com (our plan for the weekend was bargain hunting during the "Longest Yard Sale" of the USA) 1st Red Flag: When we arrived, a guest in front of me (at the front desk) was voicing concern that her reservation wasn't correct (she booked adjoining rooms but they gave her two rooms across from each other instead) 2nd Red Flag: I reserved a 2-room king suite but was given keys to a 1-room king standard instead. 3rd Red Flag: We were stuck with the king standard (for 3 guests) because the hotel was sold out. 4th Red Flag and a major red flag: Mold was in the shower. Again, hotel was sold-out and we couldn't be moved to a different room. Other Red Flags: * Pool and pool floor was dirty * Pool water temperature was hot * Water fountains were dirty * Hotel couldn't provide extra towels * 24-hour coffee machines (in lobby) weren't available after 3pm (Coffee machine was not in our room) Holiday Inn blamed Expedia for false advertising of their rooms and Expedia blamed Holiday Inn for sending the wrong information regarding their rooms. Employees of Expedia and Holiday Inn were professional and sympathetic but reasonable and immediate solutions were not in our favor. Holiday Inn Express & Suites-Port Huron is operated by the Amerilodge Group. I am still waiting for a phone call and an email. At the time of this post, Amerilodge hasn't responded to Expedia either. We couldn't enjoy our weekend because of the filthy accommodations. We did look into other places to stay but those were sold out as well. So, we sadly returned home.

I'd like to begin this review by stating the pros the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming…read more And there are computers for usage in the lobby, a breakfast area with breakfast served daily, a pool as well as a gym. But unfortunately I do have a lot of cons so bear with me. When we arrived the bed looked as though it had been slept in. There were stains on the carpet, hand smudges on the glass , stains on the sofa, mold in the shower, cracks in the ceiling, and warped wallpaper in multiple spaces. I say this as someone who can often over look things however, when I pulled out the sofa bed to sleep there was just a mattress protector and a large yellow stain. I check the closet to find one pillow with no cover on it. We went down stairs and the manager was shocked. She provided us with ample supplies like linens, and a blanket. I have to say for the price payed the condition we're pretty bad. I'm assuming you may for the location as it's 6 minutes from down town but this rooms need a upgrade. And a deep carpet and upholstery cleaning.

Ah yes, the Flamingo Motel, where do I start? It was probably one of the two least desirable…read moreplaces I stayed at on my Michigan trip but I wouldn't know that till after I made my circuit. I do love the little 1950's and 60's motels and have encountered a wealth of those that have been reconditioned and renovated yet charge a nightly rate less than the Flamingo. Starting with the good, the clerk was very nice. She only takes cash, not set up for credit cards she said. I can find no receipt for the place so I assume she didn't give me one and I just didn't notice. Fortunately I had enough cash on me. Due to road construction in the area it had been an ordeal to find this place in the dark and I didn't want to go looking for another. My first impression of the room was that it was darling and quaint with a pretty bedspread. My second impression was that there was a very strong, very old, unpleasant smoke smell permeated into every pore of the room, the kind that gets into your hair, clothes and belongings the minute they touch anything. Then, over the course of the evening, night and morning more problems became evident. There was a large stain on the carpet near the frig that I stepped on with bare feet later and found it to be saturated wet and cold. I don't know if there was a leak from the recent heavy rains or from the fridge. I laid a paper over it just to remind me not to step on it again. When I went looking for a plug to recharge my phone there was a definite shortage of them and I discovered the lamp cord plugs looked like they were from the 1930's. See my pix if you think I'm exaggerating. I unplugged one lamp after seeing the cord was nearly split in two and looked like a shock hazard, as well as a fire hazard. That freed up a plug for my phone, though not conveniently close to the bed so I could use it while charging. The bathroom trash was sitting under the sink, making me wonder if there was a leak being captured. The tub had serious stains but I don't know if it was unclean it maybe just had paint spills in it. I didn't use it. The sink and toilet worked good and the room had a fridge, which I used. The security chain on the door was busted and unusable. The toilet seat was full of splinters, not where they easily would get on your toosh, but dangerously close. If every older motel was like this I would just figure that's the way older motels are. But all save one of the other older motels I stayed at were way nicer than this. And many were only $32-35/night. So do I recommend this place? Sadly, not particularly.
