I'm a regular! no surprise here because my bf is a pho fiend enthusiast. He'd be fine with eating pho 24/7. I think he tried almost all of the pho restaurants in stockton, and he decided Bayon is the best. And although I am not a pho connoisseur, the pho here is pretty good. I don't think there's much msg, if not any in the soup. The soup tastes refreshing with dried garlic garnishes and the noodles are the right texture. Well mostly, sometimes but very, very rarely the noodles are really stringy and broken like they've been boiled for way too long or just sitting around for too long, but that's only happened to us twice. But the owners and waitresses are really nice and accommodating and fine with exchanging the bowl for a fresher one. I learned from my bf: adding the fish sauce with chili seeds into the broth; it's so yummy try it! Honestly, most weeks we go to Bayon at least twice.... and that's with both of us. My bf doesn't mind going here by himself when I refuse to go with him or with other friends who want pho too.. Bayon is also the first place I tried Bun thit, and it was really good! The meat was soft and the sauce you put into the bowl was kind of sweet and yummy. I have a feeling that generally all of the entrees on their menu will taste decently fine, and the prices are very reasonable too with very good portions. Since we are such regulars, the owners and waitress remember our usual orders and for two people our bowls of pho (#10 small, #7 large) usually are $10 flat. read more

After a recent visit, a tasteful atmosphere, and home style food along with comfortable pricing, the pho, and the home cooked style plates are great for meals during lunch or dinner. A lot of customers take their orders togo, whixh makes dining feel personal, and the TV is in view in one room, as well as larger tables in another. This place is such a curiosity to me. Growing up with Vietnamese food, I know my Viet food, but since Bayon is Cambodian-Vietnamese, they put some odd spins on the dishes I know and love. Granted, I've only ever tried two dishes, those are my go-to dishes at other Vietnamese places, so that's what I'm comparing Bayon to. BUN THIT NUONG (grilled pork with rice vermicelli): My friend told me that this place serves the BEST bun thit nuong, and I was certainly wary because I've had some KICKASS thit nuong in San Jose. Also, thit nuong is one of my absolute fave Viet dishes, so I've got high standards. I've tried Bayon's a handful of times, and it's pretty good. The quality of the meat varies; sometimes, it's juicy and flavorful and great, othertimes, it's been dry and bland. Sorta hit & miss, but for the price, I'd get it if I'm in the area. PHO: Another friend swore that Bayon's pho was the best and her favorite of all the Stockton places. Seeing as I've tried all the other Stockotn places, as well as my mom's and aunt's (THE BEST, HANDS DOWN), I definitely had my doubts. Last week, we were both tired of studying and sick of greasy fast food, so we opted for hearty, soul-warming pho. The odd thing about this pho is that although it contained all the standard ingredients for pho (vermicelli, bean sprouts, meat, beef broth, etc), it just didn't taste right. The broth was simply a different flavor that wasn't the essential PHO taste. There was a lot less meat, too, compared to the amount I get from other pho places. The upside to all this is the discount and the service. The family that owns Bayon is beyond sweet and always give the poor college students a discount. I had no idea this place was here until last weekend when I stopped at Marshalls. I like a place with pictures on the menu so I can at least have a better idea of what I am going to get. My daughter had the pork with shrimp rolls over fried rice. What I sampled was very good. The shrimp rolls were very tasty. I had the seafood and pork rice noodle soup. People may complain about the availability and it is true that they tend to be out of a lot of food, but that is because they make everything fresh and they buy ingredients that day. I know it may be frustrating, but I would prefer having fresh ingredients than a whole menu with days old ingredients read more

What attracted me to this restaurant is the value for the money. Lots to choose from and they cover their basics very well had a very good price. The phó is amazing and I get some to go at least three times a month. Fairly good and worth the money - Order: Pho Tai Chin (Pho with rare steak and brisket) - Food: The Pho broth and the meat were both good. The broth has a unique taste that is different from other Pho restaurants I've tried in Stockton. This is one of the reasons why I really like this restaurant. - Service: The service kind of threw me off. We were able to sit anywhere we wanted to, and waiting for the food took a while. I didn't expect the food to take long, but I would like to think that they were taking their time to ensure the food was well prepared. Paying up front also took a while. Conclusion: The restaurant may not look as appealing to some, and the service might not be the best, but both the price and quality of the food outweigh the cons. I've been here many times and have NO complaints about the food. I love their broth. I ordered a #30 Seafood and pork won ton soup (small). It was wonderful. I love all the fresh veggies, imitation crab, shrimp, and pork won tons. Then it's topped off with a sprinkle of roasted garlic. Yum. I also ordered #1 Spring Rolls. The Spring Rolls are delicious. Everything tastes fresh. The peanut sauce for the rolls is really good too. It has a tiny hint of spice. Then I ordered a #3 Egg Rolls. Those are a must every time I go here. Really, Really good. I feel they make the best Vietnamese coffee in Stockton. I haven't tasted anything like it anywhere else. My husband said he would go here for the coffee alone. He can't get enough of it. The restaurant dinning area could probably use a facelift but the food is so good you don't care. I love this place! I come by every week or so to get my fill of pho or one of their rice plates. If you're a UOP student, they give you $1 off your order. I think seasoned pho eaters (such as my friends who have been here with me) prefer the pho elsewhere, but I think it's delicious nonetheless. I also like their fried rice with chicken drumstick (I don't remember the exact name) - however, recently the chicken has been very dry. I also like the white rice with grilled pork dishes, and my friends (who aren't fans of the pho here) love the vermicelli bowls. The service is friendly enough, the price is more than reasonable, and the food is good - all in all, I'd say it's a great deal. read more

This is not my favorite restaurant but I always end up since my bf likes it. Half the time they get one of our orders wrong but we never complain. I usually order pho or noodle soup but it never comes out piping hot and the broth is lacking something! Hands down, the best vietnamese in stockton. I always get the number #36 vermicelli rice bowl with pork, and a egg roll. Their spring rolls are great too. Also, the price beats all the other pho houses. Everyone is always friendly, and make every effort to make sure you are comfortable. One small complaint, is that you usually have to go get them if you want them to refill a soda, or give you more food, wish the waiters were a bit more attentive. Wow! Best I have had in awhile! I had the Pho and it was a huge bowl that was delicious! My Aunt had the lemongrass chicken which was also a huge portion and seasoned perfectly! I love this restaurant! The owners are very friendly, prices are good, and #36 (grilled pork over vermicelli with an eggroll) is absolutely delicious!! I get this dish every time, and it never fails to satisfy my craving... I've tried a couple of other things on the menu, but I always come back to #36. It's the perfect combination of a little salty (pork), a little healthy (veggies), a little fried (eggroll), and a lot of vermicelli! I wish more people know about this little hole-in-the-wall restaurant, so come try it when you get the chance! Had a GREAT lunch here with friends! 1st time dining here. The Egg Flower Soup that came along side my pork & rice dish was DELICIOUS! I NEVER like "starter soups" when I dine out, but this soup I will go back for and order a full size! Wow, it was just so yum! I also enjoyed my pork-fried rice-egg plate. My friends loved their noddle bowls! I believe one was a spicy pho, and another a beef ball bowl. Our server was awesome! Personable young guy, 30's, he kept returning to our indecisive table every 5 mins ready to take our order - but NEVER in that awful pushy or irritated way servers can get (you all know what I'm talking about). His disposition was just like, 'when you need me, I got you.' lol really lovely guy! Very accommodating; for example, as I was requesting to leave out the shrimp that came with my order, my friend asked if it could rather, be put on HIS plate (lmao), and the server said no sweat! :) Just a really great dining experience with great people! I sometimes stopped here after class or on weekends. It is family run and I'm guessing they have their children serve the food and such. They always seem to seat me at the same spot right in front of the television (favorite spot) and I find myself glued to it as I eat my food just like as if I were at home. I love this place. My best friend and I used to come here all the time in college, when we didn't have money for anything else, we always had money for Bayon! They have the best grilled pork ever. I usually get that w/ either the vermicelli or the fried rice. The portions are so generous, you will definitely leave here stuffed and most likely with leftovers unless you have a very big appetite. This place isn't fancy but it is always comforting and delicious, I wish there were a Bayon in every city, some of the best Vietnamese food I've had, period.
