This is a nice quiet place. A good place to have a conversation with friends & family since it doesn't get too crowded (at least during all my visits so far). LOVE this place! They have a wide variety of really authentic Cambodian/Vietnamese dishes on their menu at an affordable price. I got the Grilled Pork Vermicelli with an egg roll, delicious! Huge portions too. The egg roll is more of a Chinese type egg roll than a Vietnamese one, but still good. Food comes out fast and is fresh. When you enter a restaurant, and see half of the tables still not cleaned, it should be a good sign for you to leave. But we were desperate for a good bowl of noodle soup, so we sat down. BIG MISTAKE. We found someone, who happens to be a cashier, the waiter, and also the cook!!! She took our order and apologized for the wait because one the workers there had an appointment and hadn't shown up. Again, we were desperate, so we waited. 25 minutes later, I start to get annoyed - no water, and no sign of food showing up. I almost went to the kitchen to asked if we could cancel the order. The lady (the cook, the waiter, and the cashier) came out and said our food would be ready in minutes. And so we waited. Finally our food came... By golly, I can deal with the non-existent service, but when it comes to food that I have to pay for, please at least make it decent. We (4 of us) each ordered soup noodles and they all came out salty as heck. Not only so, the noodles were not fully cooked. 1) I am not a picky eater. 2) I hate to waste food. 3) I was hungry at that point I'll eat anything. All of the above couldn't get me to finish that bowl of noodles. Sadly, I had to let it go to waste. I only took 3 sips, and it was 3 sips too much. I even told my boys stop eating it because the sodium in that bowl was enough to kill them!! I just can't imagine a place like this can sustain any businesses. Aside from the service, the food that they serve was just totally unacceptable. If it was just one bowl, then it's bad luck, but if it's 4 bowls, then it's just bad food. Sick with a sore throat and a cold and no Pho experience at all, I stumbled in to Bayon for a order of beef Pho to-go. A nice man on crutches immediately helped me when I walked in the door. I let him know it was my first Pho experience. I had consulted my yelp friends on what to order but still accidently pronounced it wrong. Oh well rookie mistake. Within a few minutes I had a huge to-go box in my hands. He explained that the broth was seperate and once I got home I would put everything together. When I got home I grabbed a huge pyrex bowl and assembled my Pho. There was fresh basil and cilantro and limes to add as well as 4 kinds of beef. I skipped the gelatinous looking one but added the meatballs, and two other kinds of beef to my soup bowl along with the noodles and a sauce. Hoisin maybe? Wow it was huge and amazing. I forgot to me too mention they give you roasted garlic bits as well. So delicious. A large was $7.03 out the door and was big enough for two people to share. I am hooked! read more

Bayon is still and will always be my favorite place in Stockton for vermicelli! I don't know how they do it but their pork is so juicy and good! They don't skimp on the meat either! Not thin and chewy like some other places. Their sauce for the vermicelli is also spot on! Vermicelli runs for about $6 and maybe an extra $1 if you want an egg roll to go with it. I HIGHLY recommend the #35. It's their basic vermicelli served with 3 shrimp rolls. I hardly ever finish the vermicelli in one sitting. Their portions are HUGE. You really get your money's worth here. If you're not a big fan of noodles, go for one of their rice dishes! All of the rice dishes I've had here so far have been good as well. As if the prices aren't already good enough, they offer discounts for students! They have a very unusual way of giving discounts. Rather than taking a certain percentage of your check, they'll just round a couple dollars and cents off. One time my check was supposed to be $14 and something cents but with my discount they just charged me $12 flat. SWEET. For two people you'll end up spending around $15 here, including tax and tip. Yum! My first foray into Cambodian food and I loved it. I tried #1, a bowl of soup with egg noodles, shrimp, pork, carmelized onions, and a tasty broth with I think tomato or some unidentified meat part. I am assuming this is the Cambodian version of pho but it wasn't as salty as some of the beef pho. I think I actually preferred it to pho. Great Caesar's ghost, did I actually mean that? Monday late lunch with a friend to catch up. The place was empty as it was well after 1:30 pm. Pho my favorite Vietnamese dish was on my mind. Not long after we placed our order out came a steaming big bowl of brothy goodness filled with rice noodle, pieces of white meat chicken (a bit of a chew on the chicken) and a side dish with those all important fixin's: bean sprouts with Thai basil and plenty of it, yum! I was, fortunately, quite pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is discretely located in a random strip mall so a little hard to find. We ordered spring rolls as an appetizer - they were hot and crispy. Nothing much to say about them... What I was most impressed with was their noodle soups. Inexpensive yet a homemade quality taste to them. I had the spicy pork noodle soup and when the soup arrived, the broth looked a little more on the clear side that I am used to. I thought it was going to taste watered down and flavorless. Au contrare. It was quite the opposite. The broth was flavorful, hot, and brilliantly sprinkled with fried garlic. You'd be surprised how much of a difference this makes! The portions here are pretty good, the service is very nice, and prices are very inexpensive. Just recently I took my brother out for dinner. We arrived, got a table, and ordered. Usually water is already served along with the mint leaves, bean sprouts, and lime but we got none of that. By the time we got our food we still haven't gotten any water. My brother got up and had to request it himself. After the terrible meal that left our stomachs aching we tried to wash it off with Lollicup. It's been a long time I haven't been here (since I was 18? This restaurant meets all my criteria: splendid service, low price, excellent food, and accepts credit card. Fancy atmosphere is not on my list, so this isn't the place to take your prom date. It IS the place to bring friends for lunch or to have dinner before seeing a play at the Civic Theatre. The extras that made it 5 stars: Lots of choices with menu photos, so it's a great intro-restaurant if you or your guests are new to Cambodian/Vietnamese food. I love their vermicelli bowls! The amount in that giant bowl is awesome. Sometimes I wonder if I can finish it all, but I always do since it's so good :D Their egg rolls and shrimp rolls come out hot and delicious. Noodles, veggies and grilled pork taste fresh and yummy. As much as I love this place, I'm surprised I don't come here more often. They have delicious food, great prices (especially if you're a Pacific student), and a friendly staff! My two favorite items here are #17 (the tai pho) and the grilled pork vermicelli. Nomnomnommm. The grilled pork is so tender and delicious and I feel like they have more vegetables and stuff than the one over at Saigon Bay. Their pho broth is also unique in that they put these fried garlic bits in it and it tastes fantastic. Like Swagat, there's the extra perk of being a few doors down from Lollicup, if you want some dessert (which I always do). The owners are also so generous and sweet. They donated to one of our school events last year and sometimes the wife will give you a little more than a dollar off to make it a whole-dollar price. :) read more

Good food (Cambodian/Vietnamese for breakfast/luch/dinner, available to-go) and prompt, friendly family-run service. Decor runs on the homey cafeteria side, and basic variations of pho are available. Visual aids included in the menu for those unfamiliar with the cuisine. While the pho is acceptable, it requires a fair amount of effort to de-clump the noodles. The barbeque pork with shrimp is scrumptious, and the fried rice is of superior quality to your fast food Panda Express-type joints. Iced coffees here are very strong. I love the food here. It's not the best in the world, but it totally reminds me of my mom's cooking. So when I'm feeling like I need some love, I would eat here. Everytime I'm in Stockton, this is always the last stop before I hit the road and leave town. Bayon is a small family owned business that offers a mix of Vietnamese and Cambodian cuisine. In my opinion, it leans more towards the Vietnamese side, but they offer a good amount of dishes from both cultures. Portions are pretty big, and is extremely cheap. The most expensive dishes are around $7.50, with most rice plates costing about $6 and some change. Pho is $5.50 for a large bowl, and only $5 for a small. Service is good, they don't come out and talk to you alot of anything, but there was also hot tea when I need it. My only complaints are that the food is somewhat oily. I'm pretty sure they use MSG as well (but then again, what Asian place doesn't !?) because I always get super thirsty after I eat here. Bleh the pho here wasn't very good at all. I enjoyed it while I was eating it, but I think it was because of two reasons that would make any type of soup good. One, because I had indulged in alcoholic beverages the night before. Two, because I was starving. The pho tasted really bland, and I had to add a lot of oyster sauce for it to get some flavor. I actually want to try some of their non-pho dishes here, like the bun. My friend ordered it and it looked delicious, so I actually would come back and try one of those dishes out. Had dinner here the other night and had an alright experience. Walked in and we weren't greeted by anyone. I remember eating here before, but took the cue that we would just sit ourselves since there were already menus laid out on the tables. A few minutes later, a lady from the back comes and asks for our order. I opt for the #33, their grilled pork bun (vermicelli) and my boyfriend chose the #8 pho and an Avocado shake. Prices seemed pretty standard for a Vietnamese restaurant, less than $20 for all of our food. The food was good, but nothing spectacular. Well now... This place is my favorite restaurant in Stockton. I average 2 orders a week from this joint. As I often say, customer service cannot be substituted. The servers here don't say much to me, but they always take care of me whether I'm ordering to go or dining in. Compared to other similar restaurants, this place has the best flavor hands down. The only weakness they have are their Spring Rolls that don't even compare to the ones at Saigon Sandwich. If they stepped it up in that department I'd move up to 4 orders a week haha. read more

Bayon truly is not a place to bring a large group of friends. Just know, last to get your plate, first one is done. Worst case scenario you may never get your plate, which actually happened to two friends. It is infinitely the most shameful moment for any restaurant, in other situations work out better. What I mean, TWO IS GOOD. Fortunately I'm one of the lucky ones, but I feel bad for my two friends who never got their dish. Makes you kind of wish they need more Chef's back there. This was originally Da Nang's, owners changed last year, but most of the menu stayed the same. I have the usual rice plates here as the pho is decent but not really my cup of tea. Unsatisfactory. I ordered #20 Bun Bo Hue because I was craving it. The worst bowl of soup I've had. It was basically a bowl of Pho noodles with a thick layer of oil and pepper sa-te sauce. I normally love the pepper sauce, but this one was mostly oil! The vegetables were basil leaves and bean sprouts. The meats were for Pho noodles. That was definitely not Bun Bo Hue. I was hoping the least they can do is get the right ingredients. Aside from the disgusting soup, I had asked for NO ONIONS, ABSOLUTELY NO ONIONS. The waitress nodded & looked like she wrote it down on the pad, and what did I find in the soup? ONIONS & more ONIONS! I kindly ignored that and scooped it out while the waitress was cleaning the table next to me. Still, no apology or an effort to make things right. One positive thing about this restaurant: $1 off your meal for UOP students and decent to cheap prices for all the dishes compared to other Vietnamese restaurants that I've been to (just don't know how good those dishes are, but DEFINITELY, DO NOT GET BUN BO HUE). read more

My sisters and I came here a few years back cause my little sister said their pho is good. Okay, yeah the pho was good BUT I always wanted some eggrolls and the waiter tells me "sorry, we're out of wrappers." what?! How do you run out of wrappers! But he insisted that we wait and he will get me some. It took what it seems like forever but when it arrived in front of me, it was steaming hot. Perfect :) All and all it was good food. - 1 star for the fact he told me they didn't have something - 1 star because I had to wait and everyone knows I hate waiting!
