The dental cleaning was easy to schedule, the staff were all wonderful and we cannot believe the difference the cleaning made. Very unorganized and uncommunicative staff that give unclear instructions. I'm looking for another vet that is open weekend anyway.

I have been bringing my 3 dogs to Bayside Veterinary Hospital since early May of 2023. I bring all my 3 small dogs there for veterinary care; but on September 10, 2023; I had a realization that they were overcharging me. This is considering I have pet insurance for all my three dogs.I can't even imagine without pet insurance. It was still excessive cost what I have paid them. So, here is my detailed example on my recent visit. I've attached photos of the most current estimates for an ultrasound and ultrasound cardiac specialist for my dog Raley from Bayside Vetinerary Hospital and a comparison with VCA Animal Care Clinic. I was astonished that they were going to charge me almost $1900 for the ultrasound and reviewing the ultrasound for almost $800! Bayside Veterinary Hospital quoted me $1,890.74 and my previous vet VCA Animal Care Clinic quoted me $716.10 (which to safely now say I'm back with VCA Animal Care Clinic). This is a a total of $1,164.74 difference! Do take note that I decided to start taking my dogs to Bayside Veterinary Hospital in the first place because it was close to my home and convenient. It was no longer convenient when they are overcharging me. I have decided to go back to my old vet at VCA Animal Care Clinic in San Pablo, California, and I brought my dog there for the same reason; an ultrasound, and how much to review the ultrasound test. I am absolutely upset about this price differential that Bayside Veterinary Hospital quoted me compared to VCA Animal Care Clinic for the same service. It is absolutely absurd. Year to date, I've already spent over $6,000 for just this year alone for my 3 dogs. How much was overcharged all this time?? Take it from me. Do not go here anymore. This clinic is now ran by Dr. Singh of American Canyon Veterinary. Ever since Dr. Christiansen sold the practice to Dr. Singh, the office lacks consistent staffing, which leads to a lack of compassion and care towards the dogs and human owners. Dr. Christiansen is still a great vet; however, you'll be charged with higher costs and unnecessary tests and labs. Make sure you not only choose a good vet but a good office. read more

They took great care of my uncle's dogs, and when I needed to help out with the dogs, they were so gracious and helpful to me. They called around to get the meds we needed near my home. Our dog died earlier in the year after being spayed by Dr. Miller. We understand that sometimes things happen & are inevitable no matter what is done: however, we feel that this is not what happened with our dog. Our dog was not alert after her spay; unable to walk, sit or even lift her head; she wouldn't even look up when called by my husband; only briefly opened her eyes as the vet tech's rubbed her body to get her to wake up. My husband asked the staff several times if she was ok, and they insisted she was fine, repeatedly stating she was fine and that this was a normal reaction to anesthesia. They briefly asked my husband if he wasn't sure he could leave her there an extra hour, to which my husband said yes; however, the vet tech continued to insist on taking her home, stating she was fine & this was normal, even joked calling our dog a lazy girl. They then brought out a stretcher and put our dog on it. It took two of their staff members to lay our dog on it (she was a 106lb French Mastiff). My husband grew concerned with this as she had a freshly sown cut and was afraid of unloading her because of the state she was in and her size. He asked how we would take her out of the van in her state. The staff recommended he leave our dog in the van while she recovered and ensure she had food and water; mind you, this is a cargo van, so it doesn't have windows that can open in the back. They then threw our dog in the van since she was too heavy to lift; my husband was upset but drove the 16-minute drive home. As soon as my husband got home, our dog was not looking well; she was not breathing properly. He called the vet to see if he could take her back, and they told him to go to another emergency vet (we are in Hercules, & the closest ER vet would be Sage in Concord or Berkeley, taking her back was the closest). My husband rushed back along with our 12-year-old daughter; our dog died on the way there; my daughter witnessed her last bowel movement and breath & knew she was gone. When they got there, they performed resuscitation but did not work. When reviewing our dog's paperwork, they had written in customer notes (after the time of death, not before) that my husband was given the opportunity to leave her there longer, and the consequences of taking her home in her state were fully explained and that they even recommended that he leave her there and to all this had REFUSED. This is what was truly ENRAGING. Clearly, they were trying to protect themselves, but I think we, as regular people are not professionals in the veterinary field; we put the lives of our pets in these people's hands and TRUST them as professionals. After my husband said he would prefer to leave her there, the vet tech INSISTED our dog was fine and that this was normal, insisting he take her home, making my husband feel pressured to do so. Maybe our dog would have died anyway had she stayed there longer, but at least we would know they did everything they could to save her; instead, she was rushed out. This dog was our baby; my husband took her everywhere he went and would have never made a decision that would jeopardize her health. For example, a couple of months prior, she had been taken to an ER vet in Fairfield, where she also received anesthesia. That vet told him that she had recovered, but he could leave her there for the night at an extra cost for safekeeping; without thinking about it twice, he left her there for the night, not caring about the financial aspect of it. For Bayside to claim my husband refused to leave her there is insulting. They also said they would have our dog's ashes in two weeks; we waited for months, only to hear from a good samaritan who received them months after. We could not contact Bayside as they told us not to contact them any longer and direct any questions to their insurance, which also never answered. We hope this review can save a life. Please make sure your pets are alert (can sit or lift their head, look at you when called) & don't get pressured to take them home. We learned this the hard way. read more

Service has really gone downhill at Bayside, and prices are skyrocketing there. Especially if you have a pet with recurring issues that requires more visits. A few things I've noticed: 1. They're so busy that you may not even be allowed to talk to the vet after spending hundreds of dollars on tests/labs. The last time we had services down, we spent OVER $400 and were told by the vet tech that we couldn't talk to the vet about our dog's health issue that we were testing for! Then the vet tech proceeded to try to play vet and give us useless advice about the medical issue as if we'd never researched the topic so that we would get off the phone. Don't patronize your customers. 2. If you do talk to the vet, they may tack on a big "consult fee" now. For a brief phone call or conversation in person! We've been charged multiple times now just to talk to the vet for a few minutes after spending a ton of money on tests. Of course they don't tell you in advance that it will cost you--just tack on the added charge and hand you the bill. Since when does it cost money to chat with the vet for like 2-4 minutes during or after your appointment?! 3. They've started running some extra tests and procedures without our prior authorization first, such as an ultrasound. And of course no, these are not free. We took our pet in for a specific test and told the vet tech this, then when our pup was brought out, come to find out they ran the unnecessary extra test without telling us that we'd run just a few months before already. This was just a money grab. 4. You may get either vet for your animal's care, which isn't good if you have a recurring issue. The vets don't talk to each other. A mistake was made during one of our dog's antibiotic rounds that shouldn't have been made (wrong instructions of administration) so her infection was not cleared by the end of the antibiotic treatment. In sum, care has really gone down here, prices have skyrocketed, and I don't believe my dog is getting the best standard of care anymore. The vets "care," but they are so busy that their standards have declined in terms of treatment. You may not get to talk to them about concerns when you take your pet companions to the vet--even after spending hundreds of dollars. I used to love this place and the vets, but now I'm sadly looking elsewhere for more permanent care for my pup. read more

Absolutely terrible. Even with an appointment, expect to be there for over an hour. They overcharged us for EVERYTHING and after sending pet records to another vet found out half of the things they said were "mandatory" were 100% unnecessary and/or optional. My dog almost lost her foot because they put a too-tight cast on her leg... then charged us $175 "emergency visit" after we had to remove the cast ourself because her foot was turning purple. Tried to order her heart-worm medication with the prescription they gave us and then they denied it saying she was due for another test" which wasn't actually due for over a month. They are all about the money and don't give a *tick* about the pet u love. TERRIBLE. read more

Wow, what a disaster. We had trouble getting our cat into the carrier so arrived 13 min after the scheduled appt time (I called at 4 min past and left a message that we'd be there in 8 min). Then when we got there we told them we'd arrived, and they said someone would come out. About 10 minutes later, with our kitty in continual distress, they called us to say that because we were 15 min late - which we were not, and no one said anything about that time limit - they couldn't see us, then offered an appointment 4 days later but with an added on fee of $35 for being late! Unbelievable. I will never go there again. We sat there for 10 + minutes believing we would see someone before they bothered to tell us they couldn't. Why wouldn't they have told us immediately if they saw we were late?? And then to try to extract money out of us? Our kitty is elderly and terrified of any type of change (or stranger), and hasn't been to the vets in years because of how stressful it is for her (unlike our other two kitties). She injured herself going wild to try to avoid the carrier. Finally, there were NO DIRECTIONS about the process of how Bayside works, so I had to ask the person who I spoke with about the appt of what to do. But at no time did anyone or any document or link to a webpage - which no one sent me - say anything about a 15 min limit or else having to pay a fee. My phone record shows, also, that it was less than 15 min. Our kitty suffered so much, I'm so angry right now. read more

Great staff!!! So friendly and helpful. Love the vets here . Dr Miller was so cool when I visited with my new puppy Moana(8wk dobbie). She was very thorough in checking on her and asked was so nice and knowledgeabke in answering several of my concerns and questions. The staff is amazing you are well taken care of from setting up the appt to receptionist to when you leave. Bought my heartguard n nexgaurd there and they are so nice in providing a free month sample. Clean facilities without the overwhelming chemical smells. Nice private parking area so you never worry bout looking for parking. New puppy I had to ask some newbie questions as I never had to have a puppy dewormed (its pretty gros btw but the staff assured me long worms coming out of my puppy was a good thing ... yuck). Good prices and well worth knowing your 4 legged baby is going to be well taken care. read more

I have been a customer over ten years. When my first dog started seeing Dr. Christiansen, we loved her and the staff. Over the last 3 years the fees have begun to rise and with the pandemic the ability to get an urgent appointment have diminished. The office ability to return calls have nearly disappeared and leaving me to ponder if they even care. 5 Stars for Dr. Christianson ... zero for Dr. Miller. Dr. Christianson listens, cares and follows up asap on your pets needs. Dr. Miller not so much. We have been going for at least 15 years. We brought our nearly 21 year old cat in who at the end of her life and is dehydrated and asked for subcutaneous fluids we could give at home. Dr. Miller needed $500.00 worth of tests . No follow up from her... we called at our first opportunity, yes , your cat is dehydrated. While our cat suffers needlessly , she simply forgot to follow up. Stick with Dr. Christianson, she's great. The Covid precautions have put a damper on rapport between pet owners and the staff . We are thinking of going to Benicia Cat Clinic or All Creatures as the last few visits have not had the standard they once did. read more

We came to Bayside vet to address our dog's tooth abscess and ear infection. While Bayside did help us with the immediate care, I feel the staff at the time did not provide clear instructions for how we could maintain our dog's care at home so we could avoid such issues from arising in the future. As it turns out, our dog's ear infection came back and I feel if we had clearer communication on how much medicine, how often, how to properly administer, etc. it would have been really helpful because we needed that professional guidance and education. Super disappointed with my last experience here. My dog was brought in for an ultrasound and her belly had to be shaved. She came home with cuts all over her stomach (doctor said it was razor burn). Honestly, a child could've done a better job than they did shaving her. She is an older dog and was clearly mishandled with no regard to her safety. We decided to take Sophie, our treeing walker coonhound, in to get a lump checked out. I had told her about the lump on her belly and Dr. Miller was very concerned because it changed in size and color. After the biopsy, Dr. Miller said it was a Mast cell tumor. Dr. Miller was so patient and knowledgeable with all of our questions. Sophie's surgery was successful. She was able to get clean margins. My only thing is that we had to wait for the results, but that's normal since they have to send it out. It was about 3 weeks after surgery that I noticed another lump on her muzzle that was already there but it changed in size when we were walking. Dr. Miller did an exam on it without charge and told us to watch it. After the exam, the lump got bigger. We took her in and Dr. Miller recommended just taking it out. Because of the location, she wasn't sure about getting clear margins. But the second surgery was successful and she able to get clear margins but it they are narrow. Dr Miller allowed us to come up with the best decision for Sophie and she gave us information about what would be best for Sophie. Sophie is healing well and being her naughty self. The front office ladies are so nice and friendly. Racine is light hearted and funny. Thank you Bayside! read more

Overall, good but likely not to return. Making the appointment was easy as I discussed with the receptionist that I am a first time customer seeking a wellness check for a senior cat. The waiting room was welcoming and quiet. Parking easy. The vet we saw was knowledgeable and friendly and we liked him. The bummer? At the end of our visit, we found out he only works 1 day a week. As a new client, why set us up with a part-time vet? Especially without telling us. And when we did the follow up with the junior regular vet for the labwork, it was slightly disjointed as her philosophy didn't match the vet we saw. This didn't matter to us, but I will note their office visit/exam fees are significantly more than other vets--like $15-20 higher. We are looking to establish an ongoing relationship with a vet for our aging cat. As a consumer of veterinary services for over 26 years, this office is not a good fit for us. read more

They are a wonderful caring hospital! I think I have worked with each of the doctors now and all of them are great to work with. My cat Sampson doesn't exactly like going to the vet, so much so that I have been bringing one into my home. But since they are not always available, I know I can count on The Bayside staff to take great care of my baby! He is geriatric now, and had a pancreatic problem and had to stay for a day and my worry was relieved when he purred as soon as I got him home. The staff here are super friendly and empathetic. They really went above and beyond to make sure they were confident in their findings and took extra time to explain things. In an emergency scenario I was able to go in immediately and receive care for my dog, this might be a little bit of luck and timing, but they were very helpful and responsive. About a month ago, I found 4 newborn kittens, still covered in blood, still with cords attached - abandoned by their mother, scattered across 2 yards and under a stripped car (one was covered in ants). I got them home, cleaned, warmed and fed every 2 hours. About a week ago, while i was at work, the runt of the litter started displaying signs of distress. My son rushed him to Bayside (closest place). They were honest about his chances (slim at best), and checked him out the best they could, they could see my son was upset and very concerned, so they took the kitten, tried to feed it (he ate up a storm), that being a good sign, they sent it home with him. When we asked about payment, they wouldn't take any - they were honestly concerned about the little guy. They've since called repeatedly just to check on his condition and are honestly happy to hear he's still going strong. Eating, pooping and squealing up a storm... With concern and integrity like that, as soon as these little guys get to about 6 weeks, Bayside will have 4 new clients. Thank you! read more

We have been using this office for many years. The staff is always warm, friendly, and helpful! Recently, I found a small kitten hiding under my car as I left for work in the morning. We called the office and they saw her that day! They treated her for her ear infections and got her all set. She took a turn for the worse earlier last week and they were able to squeeze her I. Working 30 minutes of my call and even helped again when I was in a panic as she continued to worsen! They adjusted her antibiotics and got her back on track. She's now almost completely back to her normal, happy, self. I would strongly recommend this vet if you are in the Vallejo area, I will never take my beloved pets anywhere else. read more

I recently had to put my 16-year old kitty to sleep, and Dr. Christiansen was with me the whole time to literally provide me with a shoulder to cry on. My poor dog became very ill over the weekend, and while my husband and I hoped he would bounce back, we knew it was time to say goodbye. After an unpleasant experience with Redwood (our typical vet) my husband called them yesterday morning, and received nothing but kind and empathetic service. Unfortunately, Klaus passed before we were able to take him into Bayside, but the staff still handled the country burial for our sweet boy. As I went through the stressful experience of my dog's last illness and his eventual and inevitable death I was fortunate enough to experience the caring service at Bayside. It was obvious from the very first appointment that Dr. Valerie Christiansen, Beverly, and the staff at Bayside are passionate about, and committed to, what they do. RVTs Stephanie, Tom and Joey always handled my dog with patience and care and because of this he was always relaxed and cooperative. Dr. Christiansen always took the time to talk to me about his condition, patiently answering every question I had - I never felt rushed. A few days after each appointment one of the RVTs would call to follow up on prescribed medicines or just to see how my Luke was doing. That really meant alot. I would especially like to say that Barbra, the office manager is great. She is definitely an asset with her people skills and genuine love of animals.
