So, I got on Yelp and decided to use their AI Assistant to find someone who could help. The responses came faster than I could have anticipated. The first one was from Leo at Leo's Upholstery. This was a business I was already considering, being somewhat close after 2 in Oakland. Leo's reviews are what sold me, outside of how responsive Leo was to my inquiry. I dropped off the chair, had a great chat with Leo about the chair, what we had done with it and other topics. He said it would be ready by Monday or Tuesday. I receive a text early on Tuesday morning, letting me know the chair was ready. We arranged a time and I came to get the chair. It was as promised. It's fixed (after many months of being damaged), it looks great, feels solid and I couldn't be happier with the experience. Leo will be my Go-To Furniture repair going forward.

However, all I received was an invoice. This invoice was addressed to "walking client" and listed the price of the order I requested. As listed, there was labor, fabric, and shipping charges. I was more than ok with the labor and fabric costs. But shipping charges? For what? I did not request the finished item to be shipped to me. I also did not choose a fabric, nor a color, so how are they charging me $45 in shipping? I asked a very specific question and there was no answer to my question. Just the invoice and a very high shipping charge that was not accounted for. There was no dialogue. No greeting. No invite to speak with them more about the order. Just an invoice. I had read that this company was very personable, kind, and do good work. I cannot confirm any of this from my experience and will not patronage a business unwilling to treat me like a client and not just a paycheck. P.S. Fortunately I found Tri Valley Upholstery. I send them pictures of the damaged rail and made a "reservation" to bring it in the following week to be worked on right away so as to have as brief a down downtime as possible. Ed at Tri Valley was great - I brought it in on a Tuesday and was able to pick it up on Thursday beautifully repaired for what I felt was a very reasonable price considering the work that had to be done and the excellent job they did. Started out be…read moregetting a quote online, not all upholstery places are able to work on office chair, due to the seams on the plastic frame backing. Then went in-store to pick out the fabric. I wanted to change out my fabric cushions on my office chair as it was staining and creasing. After I picked out the new material all I had to do was wait and get the cushions back. Everything fit perfectly as cushions are taught as if they were brand new. Even with the new material the grooves and contours were all maintained. Happy with the craftsmanship that Discount Upholstery provided. Highly recommend.
