Two stores popped up in a plaza, but what caught my eye was a business named "Pierogi House" So I set my gps to head there... They DID NOT disappoint! The owners were working the kitchen - one peeling potatoes and the other working the grill. I ordered a chicken gyro and a 6 pack of potato & cheese pierogi. Wow The chicken was juicy and perfectly seasoned. I'm pretty sure that they add feta (and maybe red pepper?) to their tzatziki, because it was packed with all kinda flavors! Stuffed so full, it burst out the side of the pita They are served with fresh, seasoned potato wedges. I love the seasoning as it reminds me of what the Russian owner of the Italian restaurant in Hollywood Beach, sprinkles on his breakfast potatoes. The pierogies were massive - 6 pack weighed just under 2 lbs - served with fresh grilled onions and packed with a delicious cheesy mashed potato filling. Best part: Gyro combo was $10 and the 6 pack pierogi was only $7.99! They had said that they just recently switched over from a market to restaurant and business was ok but far from great. After eating their food, it can only be because ppl don't know about them... Cuz that ish was DELICIOUS So go check em out and after you do, tell all your friends to do the same. I'm gonna be real salty if this place closes!! *Went back today and it was just as good. They now offer kielbasa with the pierogi. It's delish!

If you don't value the difference between well-prepared food and bad, you'll also balk. My in-laws would have hated it: "They want me to pay $11 for three eggs, bacon, home fries and toast?!?! I can get a dozen eggs for $2.50 and a pound of bacon for $3.50 at Aldis..." My sister thinks of food as fuel. She's fine with breakfast at McDonalds, or whatever diner is closest to where she's staying. She'll also microwave a can of hash and a frozen omelet. Her husband is always dieting; he'd say the portions are too big. If you like to eat-- and you care about what you eat-- Southside diner is pretty wonderful. Everything is made from scratch. Portions are large. The recipes are flavorful and uniquely spiced (even the coffee is from a local roaster). This has positives and negatives; you might or might not agree with the decisions made in a recipe. For example, the "breakfast tacos" contain fried eggs, chorizo, red onion, pepper jack cheese, pineapple, chipotle sauce & cilantro (the last one means I can't touch it-- cilantro tastes like soap to me). On the other hand, I love their take on corned beef hash. Also, if this matters (not everyone cares) the pancake batter is different than the waffle batter. Because the kitchen is enormously busy, they get enough practice with unusual orders that they can deliver many things other diners whiff on. Like your eggs over medium or poached? No problem. They know how to make hollandaise, too. We enjoy having breakfast, so we can't speak to the burgers or salads. The four soups we've tried have all been good-to excellent. We often get a sandwich or two to go. The things that cost them a star : They're almost always really busy, so it can be difficult attracting the attention of a server is you need something, or something went wrong. The buttering of the toast is erratic. And, while I understand the need to make a profit, the cost of some of the add-one are high. 75 cents to add onions (not grilled) to an omelet? $3 to add blueberries or chocolate chips to your pancakes? Ouch (Strawberries or bananas I get.) It's still worth the trip. And the cost.

Great options, wonderful seasonal specials. (Short rib omelette?! Hell yes!) I wanted basic, so I built my own omelette with a side of bacon and a hot tea. They have a great drink menu- coffee, specialty cocoas, tea, cocktails, mocktails, and refreshers. I was on my way to see a friend, so I grabbed us each a refresher to go. My meal was out in just minutes. Expertly prepared, fresh and delicious. Also a very nice portion. Sourdough toast was excellent. Generous filling for the omelette too. The only drawback was a common plight for strip mall restaurants- entrance that opens straight into the dining room. No foyer or vestibule means the cold January air nipped you in the face every time that front door opened. On cold days, get a table in the back. I'd like to highlight the mocktail concept, too. I often want a spirited drink but don't imbibe booze often. I love that they have offerings. The entire staff was so nice and helpful. I can't wait to come back!

Most of their menu was going over their food options rather than their drinks. I opted for a toasted marshmallow latte and a cookie warmed up. I got my latte and took some sips. The latte was very light on coffee flavor. Mostly got milk and light sweetness of marshmallow. The cookie was over warmed, became crumbly and was not very flavorful. Price was a little high, but about them same as an average Starbucks order. As a local shop, it meets the requirements of a standard coffee place. It's nothing special, but functional.

It was filled to the brim and spilled, not to mention putting a steaming hot drink in a paper cup. Nonetheless, the chair was good. More folks eventually started to come in so I can imagine this place gets noisy as it fills up. There was a women's group meeting all sitting in a circle on the floor in the front of the cafe. Got the corned beef and Swiss sandwich special, everything was fantastic. First up, the potato soup, which I had zero expectations for, was easily the best potato soup I've ever had, completely homemade and so much flavor. Corned beef was excellent and fries were cooked perfectly. Looking forward to returning soon! Service was great too
