This lunch started out as a lighthearted experiment - "let's try a new place in Rehoboth Beach." However, as our dishes descended to our table, our senses were bombarded with aroma, spices, color... My wife's eyes were transfixed; she followed the snapper as it nestled on the table in front of me. Instincts kick in; I scramble for utensils. This has suddenly become something far more serious. I focus, intent without distraction... ... It takes a while before I look up. I see my wife's bright eyes. She is enjoying herself immensely. I silently offer her my snapper. She nods and draws the plate to her side of the table. I adapt... that oxtail stew looks wonderful. ... I feel slight embarrassment for the quiet ... the atmosphere, antisocial ... until I realize that I'm not alone in my focus. Light chatter begins; our table lightens with smiles and laughter. 2-3 members of staff stop by to warmly make sure the food is to our satisfaction. Before I know it, we are enjoying lighthearted banter with the people at the next table. I feel as though I just visited my Caribbean aunt. She makes some very healthy and delicious food. We met some delightful, happy neighbors at her place. Everyone had a very good time. Atmosphere: Clean, fast-casual Caribbean restaurant. Plastic forks and knives. Order at the counter. Food: "Shockingly good" hits the mark. Healthier than I expected. Spices were balanced, not too salty. The oxtail was a bit decadent, but not greasy. Service: Limited service due to the fast-casual concept. But I was impressed by the warm follow ups to check on us. The owner clearly cares about people. Conclusion: We'll be back, soon. I am driven to explore more of their menu. Jerk and Jambalaya is a very welcome addition to the Rehoboth Beach restaurant scene. The "Culinary Coast" continues to get better.
