I've been here several times over the years, but unfortunately the quality of the food has noticeably declined. This review is long overdue. On my most recent visit, everything was bland and lacked seasoning. The rice was dry, and overall the meal was disappointing compared to what I remember from previous visits. It feels like there may have been a change in ownership or management at some point because the food and overall quality are not what they used to be. My daughter took me to lunch today at Ray's Caribbean and American food. Their lunch special is fourteen dollars and that includes a house made non alcoholic drink, your protein, rice and peas, a cabbage side and plantaines. Visited Ray's Caribbean yesterday in Aberdeen on 5/8/26. Service was good just as everyone is saying. I ordered the oxtail. It was horrible. It did not even taste like any Caribbean spices were used. No flavor, no spice whatsoever. The oxtail was salty and stringy and tough. It never used to be this bad. The rice and peas were dry and slightly seasoned, the cabbage was ok at best. And I just realized they didnt give me my plantain. I should have drove up to Abingdon to Island Spice. The young man that took my order was pleasant and friendly. The place is always clean and the tables are always presentable. This is a family run resturant. But they need to do something to right this ship. I wont be buying their food again. read more

I should've known the food wouldn't be worth it when I saw the macaroni. It looked too American; ironically, it was the best thing on my plate. Typically, Caribbean macaroni is just okay, but here it was the highlight. I had the jerk chicken with two sides. Unfortunately, both the rice and peas and the chicken were dry. The jerk sauce was decent, but it couldn't save the meal. My aunt ordered the oxtail plate with cabbage, rice, and peas. She said it wasn't good, and she only ate enough to put something on her stomach before giving up and tossing the rest. Overall, I'd pass on this place. We ordered a half Jerk Chicken, the Saturday Doubles special, and two beef patties. The prices and quality were both excellent. The chicken was juicy and tender enough. Not perfect on the bite, but very good. There was now chalky dryness to speak of. The double was insanely good. Super fluffy and chewy with a complex savoury herbal flavor inside. The beef patties had a crusty but also chewy and buttery exterior and were filled with heavily spiced finely ground beef. My corn muffin was stunningly fresh - definitely made that day if not an hour before because it was still a little warm and very moist. No mass produced dry cornbread there. No normal fountain drinks. Instead, bottles of Coke de Mexico and homespun concoctions, including a tamarind drink. My daughter enjoyed her orange-pineapple-ginger juice. This location is absolutely amazing. My family ordered the whole chicken with a couple of sides. The sides were plantains, rice, vegetables and mac & cheese. This combination was delightful. The vegetables seem to be mainly sautéed cabbage and that is not what I expected when I ordered vegetables but it was a pleasant surprise! The chicken had a great flavor that was new and different to the local foods I have tried. I highly recommend that if you are in the area either on a trip or on your way to the local beach, to stop by and order from here. So I never tried this restaurant when it was still located inside the liquor store when it was in Edgewood, but so happy I tried it at this location and it's so delicious!! Quality and size of the portions of food was great. The time I ordered the jerk chicken I would have preferred that they put the sauce all over the chicken before I had it but they put the sauce on the side which I can see both sides to that. The plantains are great, not too soft but not too crunchy. Their cabbage has been on point each time I have dined at this location which is so exciting for me!! The restaurant is clean and the staff are very nice. I haven't tried any of their drinks other than water but they probably are decent as well. They now didn't have a Spanish menu and you have to have a $10 minimum to use a debit card without a fee. Also they do offer takeout or dine in at this location. read more
