I've got a new go-to place for fried chicken. In my opinion, Korean fried chicken is second to none. According to some online posts, the frying method renders out the fat in the skin. I don't know if that's accurate. I thought the skin was removed. I'll have to ask the staff next time. I do know that it was super crispy and delish. It's served with pickled turnip. BB.Q Chicken is a Korean chain that's branched out internationally. I got the golden fried chicken which is basic, but there are many different flavors including spicy and some that are slightly sweet. I saw one customer review that said now "you can feel famous" eating Korean fried chicken. That's because fried chicken is always featured in K-dramas. The spicy rice cakes with fish cakes are also sometimes featured in the shows. I ordered some. Rice cakes are popular Asian cuisine, but they're a bit heavy and very filling. I couldn't finish the order. It was too large. I liked the staff. They were friendly and helpful. The place was busy even after 2pm. I placed my order online. When I got there I still had a 10 minute wait. It seems a lot of lunch orders were placed around 2pm by customers who appeared to be mostly college or post-college age. The fried chicken was worth the wait. The restaurant is small, clean, cute and modern. There are some tables for those who want to eat-in, but it seems most of the orders were for take out. One of my favorite spots to come eat in central avenue. Whenever I crave some fried chicken, this is the place to go! It's a small store on the side of the road, parking is usually fairly easy to find. It's not usually busy inside as most people order takeout so they grab the food and leave. You walk up to the counter and order your food. They make Korean style fried chicken where they mix different types of Korean sauce with the chicken. But if you just want classic fried chicken with no sauce, they have that option too and sauce or not, it's still really good. I tried the half and half where they give you half classic fried chicken and other half with their secret sauce. Both of them were really good. It was crispy, full of flavor, and juicy. It took about 15 mins to get the food and took us 15 mins to finish everything. They also serve boneless chicken and ramen. Albany finally got a Korean fried chicken joint!! I've been to BBQ chicken in the Boston area and was excited to see it pop up here. We ordered the soy garlic wings and secret spicy wings as well as fries, coleslaw, and radish. I'm definitely partial to soy garlic no matter where I go and I thought these were delicious and crispy. I didn't really like the secret spicy (not spicy and have a strange aftertaste) but my bf preferred them. Honestly their sides were not the best I've had, but nothing to complain about either. Korean fried chicken takeout from a franchise operation that is opening it first outlet outside of NYC. They fry up the bird in a crunchy batter then coat it with one of a variety of sauces. Counter guy told me the secret spicy is closest to what you think of his Korean fried chicken, but it wasn't spicy enough. I would definitely go for the hot secret spicy. They advertise that they use olive oil in frying, which sounds great, but oddly adds a mellow note you don't expect in Korean fried chicken. Still it's pretty good stuff. Portions are priced around $13 for a small size, $23 for a large size. You can get either wings or parts of a whole chicken. The latter is a much better deal. I got I think 10 meaty chunks instead of a few bony extremities. They threw in some pleasant daikon pickle but I think that might be a grand opening special. Ambience is zippo. You just stand around waiting for your order to be ready, which takes takes longer than I think it should due to a bottleneck with the guy saucing the chicken. The best flavors are the Gang Jeong and Secret Spicy. Both are not too spicy and have a bit of a sweet bite. Honey garlic is also excellent. The original wings were good but compared to the other wings with sauce, they seemed like they were missing more flavor. The cheeseling wings were unique and interesting with cheese powder for seasoning. Worth a try but I prefer the other flavors for more depth. The cheese sticks were mozzarella sticks, I thought they were going to be more Korean with some spice. However they were still yummy. Make sure to call ahead!! I originally tried Korean fried chicken in SoCal (where I'm from) and it was delicious. There's another subpar place I tried it at in upstate New York that made me even give up looking. Sometimes I just feel like some regions don't have good non-American food. Then I found this place. InSANEly good. I actually think it's better than my favorite Southern California place. It's also more expensive. I think the price deters me from going more often. Order ahead and pick up to go. You have to pay for parking in a side lot (which is fine - it's cheap), but I'm more comfortable just taking it home and eating there. We made the mistake of ordering and waiting once but the wait was 45 minutes because they have so many door dash and grubhub orders that come through. So I wish it was a little less pricey, and I also wish their hottest option (wings of fire) was more spicy. I can taste the heat and the flavor is good, but I want something that'll really burn and they don't have that. Other than that, I love this place. read more

Orders generally take 30-40 minutes (even when not busy), so order ahead. Having just opened a few days ago, it's a little hectic with the surge of customers and pickup orders. For the uninitiated, it may seem a little pricey, and you might be confused as to what the big deal is, but trust me, give it a shot! The flavors are something that you've not likely not had before, especially up here in the Culinary Siberia. I have heard of Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) before but never have experienced it until now. However, I have heard of fried chicken and love it so when my wife suggested we come here I assumed it would be awesome. Well, you know what they say about assumptions. We ordered three things from their menu which primarily consisted of various sauces on fried chicken. We split a "half and half" which was plain fried chicken on one side, and "Secret Hot" on the other. I also ordered the "Gang Jeong wings" which were looked great online. The online menu showed that some thing were available in boneless which is what I picked, but when calling in the order we were told that it wasn't available. Speaking of which, I could hear my wife trying to place the order and she kept repeating our simple order over and over. Either they couldn't hear, weren't listening, or English wasn't their primary language. We went to pick up the food 45 minutes later and drove it home. Their little shop had a half-dozen people in line or waiting to order so the turnover was quick. When we got home and opened it all up, I have to admit it looked great. Packed in cardboard boxes instead of plastic, I think that choice prevented the chicken from steaming. That was a good move. The plain fried chicken was cut up into smallish pieces and tasted like, well, plain fried chicken. If you have ever had fried chicken from the other KFC right out of the oil it was like that. Very good, but the small pieces made it sometimes difficult to deduce where the bones were. If they kept it in the normal sized shapes (breast, leg, etc.) I think it would have been easier. The "secret hot" was true to its name... if it was at all spicy or hot, it was a secret to me. I like spicy food but this wasn't it. It was sweet though, and a bit garlicy. If you walk around mall food courts and try the free samples the Chinese places give you (sesame chicken, General Tso chicken, etc.) it was like that. Very sweet, a bit tasty in small doses, but not hot. My Gang Jeong wings were also sweet but the sauce was different. I couldn't place the seasoning, but I felt like it too was missing something. There were small pieces of hot peppers and they were hot, which was a nice respite from the otherwise saccharine taste. I like sweet barbeque chicken. I like fried chicken. I liked the combinations of flavors. But, it was expensive fried chicken and I don't think it lived up to the hype. Some of their other flavors might be fun to try but I doubt they will prove to be a better value. I have been to BWW and had chicken wings with similar sauces that tasted good, if not better, than here. If you can't make your own sweet/spicy barbeque sauce or don't want to fry your own chicken come here. But I think it is over-rated. read more

Really good KFC! My friends and I opted to eat in. The location is rather small, but they don't overstuff it with tables and so it didn't feel cramped. We did have to wait for quite a while for our food, but they were fulfilling a ton of takeout/delivery orders, and they don't have a huge staff, so it was understandable.
